Imagine leading in an endurance race here and just passed the pit entrance and the rain starts to come down. 7-8 minutes tippytoeing round whilst those behind had the chance to pit!
you can actually (naturally costs time as you invalidate that just started lap) also enter the pit from the end of the GP track (atleast irl) for exactly such scenarios (or when you get into an accident on the GP track) however, after you turned left onto the Nordschleife you are FFFed like you said
This was tremendously satisfying to watch. I'm glad the iRacing folks took their time and implemented rain right, rather than just doing a quick cosmetic addition.
Even if you're not an iRacer, you will benefit from this in the future because rain-wise it seems like it will be the standard that other sims will be measured against and hopefully aspire to.
What are your thoughts on AMS2 weather, not including AI inbalances. It also has weather on different parts of the track, ie raining on one part of the track and not on others.
@@ToyotaMotorola i would say its fine. It doesnt come close to the aspects shown in this video, i would compare it more to ams where its 'pretty, slippery, but not very accurate'
I worked out what looks wrong about the wet tarmac - it doesn't darken as it gets wet. As the spray was starting to be thrown up, the track *looked* bone dry because it was still the same brightness as before the rain.
This looks very interesting! It seems like wet track conditions are very detailed on the ring. I wonder if they can simulate different weather on multiple sections where on part is wet while some other part stays dry. That often happens on the nordschleife.
I went to goodwood revival last year. During the E-type/Cobra race, there was a very sudden downpoor after a very dry weekend... that caught even the best drivers off guard - i couldnt believe the chaos as i saw car after car drive off the track right in front of me - looked up on the screen and saw cars exit the track on the opposite side aswell
iRacing have done a really awesome job implementing the rain. I am very glad they took their time to get it right and didn't rush things. I am by no means an experienced sim racer, but the car behaves exactly as I would expect. I can hop into a rainy session and just start driving. It's great.
That looks good ,ties in with my experience that slicks don't lose grip until they lose temperature, and that usually happens after a straight. As long as there are corners and light rain, tyres generate heat, which dries the track, so the car behind can generate heat, then there is a straight, and at the end of it the rain has cooled tyres, so you have no grip, and cannot dry the circuit, and then you need wet tyres, you never recover from that. However visibility is often worse than in iRacing. The spray landing on the windscreen seems minimal, but is real life can be torrential - think more like hosepipe hosepipe on the glass.
I hope every time it rains in a formula race everyone has to sit around in the lobby for an hour just for the race to get red flagged like in real life
Theres going to be a lot of lower ranked/rating races that end in disaster and alot of angry people. Probably alot of good material for crash/racing stewards videos though.
My respect for you Jimmy increases with every video I watch and I admit a little bit jealous of the opportunities you have to drive these cars in real life, thanks for all the awesome content you provide for us!
I feel like the reason it took so long to push this update was the fact that they were fine tuning the behavior and such. All in all a great update to the game
The only thing missing is honestly the partial weather you mentioned, where on some parts of the track the rain is heavy and on others there is non at all
I don't have iRacing but after this I might have to get it. The fact that iRacing simulates the actual weather system that creates the rain (and also seems to do a great job with water accumulation/dispersion) is exactly what I've been wanting for so long in other sims.
As someone who only watches iracing this update is exiting for me too. Just more factors in the race, a pretty big one too. Ive never seen rain integrated so well
I have never played iRacing, it's only ever been a spectator thing for me watching yourself, Jimmy, but this is undoubtedly very cool. It's not a graphically astounding game overall (it's not the point, obviously) but they've done a stunning job with the lighting and water physics here - the water puddles on the track look 👌
The feeling is quite realistic, but not dark enough. And you see the puddles better than irl. But I liked my first lap tonight on the heavy rain Nordschleife.
Today I learned “slippy” is a technical term. Can’t wait to get home from work and try this, going to add like a dozen different dimensions to normal races
Much prefer a style like this to one of your more recent videos. More intense and "funny" editing can have a place, but it can get in the way of Jimmy and the actual content, which imo is much more interesting and important with slower and more deliberate pacing
I hope Jimmy goes into race commentary at some point, after he gets bored of winning them. He would be good commentating on sportscar racing I think. Especially as he gets more on track experience. Jimmy Broadbent, Shea Adam, and a platinum veteran like an Anthony Davidson would be a good booth.
I don't play iRacing but I have seen countless of your races and I gotta say that the new weather effects are so, so important. iRacing had become incredibly boring to watch (in this regard) because of the lack of variation in weather. It was always either clear blue sky or night and it looked so dull and bland compared to other racing simulators. So, I'm really happy for everyone playing iRacing that you guys have finally more variety.
I haven't raced many games for comparison. But I ❤ project cars 2 for the customised weather changes. A 20 lapper sunny start with a big thunderstorm in the middle is awesome. The drag when one hits big puddles in the corners that change with every lap. The circuits feel alive. Not sim'd for ages though. Got to race again. That looks fun.
Id love to see you in the IRX sessions again! And maybe even get you into the NASA RX league! We got some fast guys that I'm sure would love to race against you!
i feel like the visual clearance of the track between part that very wet (puddle) vs not very wet in this game are the best compare to other racing game.
Impressive driving Jimmy, awesome to see you being able to commentate while you're driving!! That's very cool. I don't have iRacing on my account... Should I get it?
I know this is more about iracing but modded AC with rain also gives similar feeling of dread. On nord, theres alot of puddles on each side of the track and some are fine to run over but most will take you out that its better to avoid them all.
This is exactly what I was waiting to see I know personally the first thing I’m gonna do when I get home is boot up the old nordschleife for a torrential downpour haha
Got to wonder how iRacing handles greasy conditions, i.e. intermediate tyre territory. If it's anything like my experience at Whilton Mill one year, it'll get slippery AF on slicks
Can't wait til that happens irl and sh*t myself.
Lmao
Be careful what you wish for mate
We also can't wait
What about rain at night? iRacing never showed it...
Oh, I hope that doesn't happen! But if it does, please ensure the cameras are rolling ;)

Check out the ending of the 2017 NBR 24 hours.
Best race ending EVER@@LeonardoBruno54
14:55 we needed a trackside view reply from that
TBH if it wasnt for Jimmy's commentary we'd prolly have been like "Jimmys a god!!"

Jimmy: I'm interested how AI handles in the rain
AI: can't take the first corner in the dry...

Out of curiosity, does anybody know how realistic Assetto Corsa CSP rain is?
Absolutely right it's about time we finally get some competition again in the sim racing space
@@ToyotaMotorola i would say its fine. It doesnt come close to the aspects shown in this video, i would compare it more to ams where its 'pretty, slippery, but not very accurate'
2:20 one of my favorite parts about taking roadtrips, is getting to see all the weather!
*jimmy doing good in this race*
Rain: “I’ll get you next time broadbent!”
Jimmer knows he lookin good in that polo
they need to update the spectators to bring out their ponchos
I love the fact that puddles forming around the track and can even turn into rivers. It also shows all the imperfections of the Nordschleife.
I was there flagging you at Post 110 when the rain started that NLS race and even we just saw the clear sky in any direction except above us :D
Dude that one area where it had a river running down has me hyped.
I worked out what looks wrong about the wet tarmac - it doesn't darken as it gets wet. As the spray was starting to be thrown up, the track *looked* bone dry because it was still the same brightness as before the rain.

I'm constantly amazed at how far sim racing has come. I can't believe we're at Project Cars 2 levels already
???
Still doesn't beat Forza Motorsport of course
cant wait to see jimmer race in VR with rain ! spray looks incredible

This was such a pleasure to watch! Really enjoyed seeing you reading the road and giving your feedback 😊
The Green Hell is the best trackof the world. Rain is so scary with the track having different grip every curve
You know its a good day when Jimmer uploads
Jimmer, I adore the Lupus Nocte music in your videos! An awesome, very fitting choice!

Nice to see this new feature in iRacing. As a british driver, you certainly have an advantage about dealing with wet conditions😉

I have fun in the rain there, although the 3 trees section is where im always slow because i gets scared to push through there
True, should be more drops when going fast and less when slow.
love the puddles on a 45 degree incline that are static lol
This is so cool! This rain looks like not rain. it`s snow!
Can't wait for the videos of you driving stuff like this with actual other people.

Welcome to Seattle driving, nice job.
SWEET!! I was getting ready to upgrade to Moza soon... I for sure buy through your site. Love your channel !
Windscreen raindrop whiping animation needs work though :)
Nice catch on the Dottingham!
Real spray is also blown upwards and does not behave like a water cape behind the car and simply falls to the ground at the same distance 🤨

Extremely disappointed with the lack of base vehicles able to use in the wet..
