It's a small thing, but I appreciate the randomness of the rain hitting the screen and the wiper's water border. I wasn't a short repeating animation like I'd expect for such a background thing. It looked dynamic. Impressive.
I have a feeling that rain in iRacing is going to be one of those "back to reality" moments. The execution looks absolutely brilliant from what I've seen. An unqualified clap of applause for iRacing for implementing wet weather and actually applying a proper "wet" racing line. However... I can't help but wonder what the racing lobby is going to be like when this amazingly detailed wet track simulation is put up against the average ham fisted sim racer. I HOPE it leads to good racing. The cynic in me thinks its going to be a bowling alley, moreso than usual.

What I want to see now is a transition race - one that starts dry/wet and finishes in the opposite state. I wanna see how the track evolves and in mixed wet/dry situations. Also: MONZA - 30 CARS HEAVY RAIN - show us what the AI does at T1. 😈
I like it! Whats missing is the hazy spray of water on the windscreen that you get from driving behind a car in the rain - right now on the windscreen it makes no difference if there is a car in front of your or not
I really like how you can actually tell where the "dry" line is, in most other sim games its just the same stage of wet + massive puddles. Also I wonder how good you will be able to tell visually when it's time to go to wet tires
One thing I would be really excited to see is the V8 supercars in the wet, considering some of the most memorable moments in the sport were in the rain.
Awesome to reference the model to your real-life experience, quite amazing to see the realism of the slick racing line and standing water. Challenging, and adaptability is key. That's what it's all about
The 86 and 1600 sessions are gonna be so packed this season. Wish the GT4 and TC cars got the treatment for the IMSA biweekly series...but honestly, I dont think I have any business trying anything above the 86/1600 in the wet for awhile.
Jimmy going around with slicks reminds me of the Lamborghini during the nurburgring qualifying for the 24hr. He was going so slow and spun at the slightest throttle. The commentators had few laughs
I remember them saying they didn't put rain in GPL because they were waiting until they could do it properly with rivers and puddles etc. So yeah just over 25 years later... 😆Looks to be a great job
Can you imagine if IMSA goes to the full Nurburgring this season and it starts raining? 50 cars, many of them Le Mans Hypercars will cause the largest safety rating loss in history.
Nah nurburgring is very safe when it comes to safety rating since it has so many corners. Tracks like monza will be much worse because of the few corners and regular incidents even in dry
I was dreading rain. I did a GT3 race at Portamoa and had a blast. Ended up going 4th to 1st with the fastest lab. The last lap I got punted off the track by accelerating on a curb. One little mistake and you're gone.
Finally I can relive the moment I fell in love with wet weather racing with IMSA and Indycar at Belle Isle in 2017. Just seeing the mist off the tires with being on the edge of control was breathtaking for me. edit: just added more context
Guess they better change the A license requirement for the IMSA series back down to B.......or it will be empty after the first few weeks. Wanted to add........you'll notice there were no rain effects on the visor of the helmet in the FF1600. A dev on the iRacing forums said they are still working on how they will implement this effect and it will be released later.
That looks very nice. Im wondering if you notice the dry line getting more grip with time progressing. As far as I know it should be the case as the rubber 'washes away' (or whatever really happens there), though I obviously can't know that for sure because I have not driven on a racetrack in real life
Only thing I think is missing is interaction of the spray particles with lighting, at least the bare minimum. This is important because IRL a lot of cars have blinking lights behind when it's wet so you can see them through the spray. In iRacing the spray is completely opaque and you can't even see the blinking light, and makes racing behind other cars very very difficult
Good point. Never fail to laugh at gamers who invest a fortune in a new GPU, don't upgrade their CPU and blame games for stuttering despite investing a year's salary in Nvidia's new 7090ti... 😂
Yea iracing is pretty CPU heavy in VR at least, with a 7800X3D and a 4080, it's my CPU that actually has the full bar. I'm a little concerned through if a 3090 is pulling 60 on a 1440p single monitor though he didn't mention what CPU he's running
@@Eat-MyGoal to be fair running VR on a Pimax Crystal even with a 13900k it's still the bottle neck. I was kind of hoping for a larger boost from iracing's stated "multi-thread"
I feel like it needs more windscreen effects when you're behind another car. There's the spray in front of you, but the water hitting the windscreen is the same whether you're driving through spray or not.
iRacing is really becoming so tremendously better. If I had another wish I´d like a series where you can do exactly 1 race a week or every 2 weeks. Once you did your race you are locked for the rest of the week. This would be like a league for open for everyone. In a league you often face the problem that always the same people sit on the top spots. I would love this! And it would give the race a realy significance. Make the races an event. Give us the introductory lap for standing starts, too - even if it is just for this series. And with rain and changing conditions, of course.
They said they're working on it but it's really complicated. They can't just turn the brightness up, something to do with transparency and illumination. It would probably require rewriting some code.
I was playing another game when you said "above 60fps challenge" and had an audio cut out and thought your editor was the best practical joker of all time
it needs some atmosphere. it's like, perfectly clear unless there's the massive amount of spray off the car ahead so it looks kinda goofy. the driving side looks super nice though
I wonder how this would work for longer oval races. If you can create a scenario to were you are racing to half way. Instead of a full distance similar to certain Midwest races during the summer.
OK the rain is cool and all but can we talk about how it says what car number you collide with in the contact chat messages now!?! (The rain is insanely cool though)
jimmy would you ever do a video explaining how to get your licenses for irl racing and stuff i think it would be very helpful. i dont know where to start and how to
What would be amazing is let's say Imsa GT3 is at Watkins Glen and the race time is 2pm if they could have a weather system that matches what the weather would be on that exact day/time that would be something. I know AMS2 let's you set weather this way by dates but I mean for live races so if right now at Watkins Glen it's raining then it's raining in the sim I love iracing but that water spray when cars are bunched up just doesn't look good at all
