Something really silly now is that, because of the changes, the normal MG can kill spore towers more quickly and with a smaller percentage of a magazine than the HMG.

Honestly with the new patch a lot of things are good. Lib penetrator, guard dog drone, arc thrower, eagle air strike, and rocket sentry has been a TON of fun against bots and bugs for me lately. Guard dog pops headshots like crazy!
the belt increase for the HMG was an improvement but not enough to compensate for the nerf it got in the second Buff Divers patch where its durable damage was decreased.
100% agreed- it's still a C tier weapon at this point. Durable damage is already a niche use case for a special weapon, and it's not good enough even at that. It sucks for swarms and it sucks for heavies.
the problem is people treat it like the stalwart or starting mg. No, this gun isn’t a bullet hose and if you try to use it that way you will fail with it. It’s basically a giant assault rifle; i fire it in bursts and only use higher RPMs if the enemy is in my face. The lowest RPM is best for distant targets.
the HMG used to just melt things, but they took away a lot of durable damage per round on both regular angle and angled shots (losing 15 to 30 durable damage per round) and that adds up fast. the HMG now does too little damage or requires far too much face tanking and exposure for the low damage and long reload time it has. especially since its a stationary reload. in shooting 10 rounds, you have lost anywhere from 150 to 300 damage in your burst dps. you could kill a charger behemoth in a solid burst to its legs, but with the nerfs you have to magdump the HMG to kill them. HMG used to have 1200 RPM and it was really good, but they took that away too. you could instantly melt factory striders or engine kill a tank in a heartbeat.
People who didnt use the HMG before the 60 day update praised the update as being "what they've been wanting." That update ruined my playstyle but my playstyle isnt pOpUlAr so no one cares.
I wish we either had more ammo or more damage so that support pack wasn't mandatory. Being able to reload while jumping with the jump pack is such fun tech, but alas you have no choice for the backpack slot.
I feel support pack isn’t ‘necessary’ unless you prefer to stand your ground in every engagement, which I do. So, I feel you. I need all the stims, grenades and ammo. If I actually wear light armor then I typically don’t because I’m trying to get away and do objectives
Honestly im fairly sure there is so much stalwart hate because its holding the other 2 machine guns back from actually being good. I mean if the stalwart didnt exist you could handily argue in favor of giving the standard mg 250 rounds and lowering its recoil. And the hmg 150 with less recoil. The current main counter argument against doing this is"but then the stalwart would be pointless" and Honestly the Stalwart IS pointless. The easiest way to fix the stalwart is to make it a call down primary and keep it as is but allow you to switch your liberator out for it. Maybe with a minor speed debuff and slightly smaller mag than it has atm. Or just up the current standard liberators upto about 75 rounds per mag and just get rid of the stalwart entirly. Would also solve the fact most ars atm cant kill chaff properly unless you love reloading and having no ammo after killing 1-2 patrols whilst being suboptimal to just straight up bad vs mediums.
Well it still suffers from reduced durable damage and a nerf to angled penetration, technically. With that said I do find HMG to be better on bots overall
they should revert the change on durable damage and bring back high rpm (1200? if I remember correclty) option imo. it would'nt be that strong because the hmg have crazy recoil and still doesn't have the best ammo economy, which is fine because the weapon need some draw back. it would also be very fun to blast enemies in close range.
Yeah, looks like the pen angle is 4/4/3/0 where the medium MG is 3/3/3/1. The HMG has low enough ammo and high enough recoil that it wouldn't be too over-powered to bump it up 4/4/4/3. Upping durable dmg would be a bigger upgrade.
The HMG is my favorite support weapon and I am grateful for the additional 25 rounds. But this thing needs to have that durable damage nerf reversed. It just does not hit the same. That angular change needs to be reversed as well. For those who don't know on that first buff divers patch the HMG had its durable damage reduced from 50(33%) to 35(23%). 23% is the same as the machine gun. Also had one of the angles go from ap4 to ap3. It just doesn't feel the same. Especially on the heavier enemies like factory striders. It used to take about 3/4 of a 75 round drum to drop one from the belly. Now it takes about 1 & 1/4. I also would like to have the highest RPM reverted back to either 900 or 1200 rpm. I agree the HMG should have the ability for bullets to pass through dead bodies. The damage could get boost a little but I know if they adjust the damage to this they'll have to change the damage to the HMG emplacement which does 200 damage and 40 durable.
HMG makes more sense on the bot side, in bug side the standard MG-43 can handle 90% of the enemies, the hmg is only more effective against hive guards which aren't hard to handle to begin with, and bile spewers. The HMG does have higher stagger so it can interrupt alpha commanders and slow down chargers, but that's about it. On the bot side its really good for killing devastators because HMG stunlocks them, it destroys rocket striders quickly as long you watch out for the rocket, and it kills hulks in a few shots on the weak point. Tanks can also be destroyed quickly if you spam the weak spot.
The problem with the HMG is that it sucks for killing heavies, it's less than mediocre for killing swarms, and durable damage alone isn't a relevant enough reason to take it as a support weapon. It just kinda sucks all around and needs more tweaking- at minimum, it should do more damage to heavies than it currently does. The penetration is irrelevant when it takes 3/4 of a clip just to leg a charger. Guns should be able to kill swarms or heavies- the HMG isn't good at either.
HMG has about the same durable damage as the MG-43. So don’t waste your time shooting heavies with it. Maybe to finish them off. Otherwise use it for chaff and medium chaff clear. Also HMG pierces or cleaves enemies. So if you kill something and there is still damage left in the shot it will hit the next enemy behind it as well
Helpful tip for the HMG against chargers and bile titans is to aim for charger legs they die far quicker that way and to crack the bile titans armor and sink shots into the exposed flesh (yes any weapon can take advantage of that but the HMG does it far better than any other weapon)
Been playing alot vs Bots with my bro as of late. Me being the heavy killer running the Recoilless and him the medium killer with the Auto Cannon. Since you cant always pop the heads in the heat of the battle he decided to switch to the Heavy MG. The Auto Cannon´s time to kill drops off and you got to reload very often if you re not scoring headshots all the time, which is impossible thanks to the wonky bullet spray of the game anyways. With the Heavy MG he shredded stuff without having to care alot about where he hits enemies with way less reloads. We werent considering this thing before because of the awful amount of ammo. Now its a contestor for the Auto Cannon. But it needs one more mag. Btw. Use Sentrys vs bug breaches. MG Sentry is amazing with that short cooldown. Also Gatling.
Good loadout but the execution needs work. Primarily your problem is not taking advantage of your supply pack. If you are using a supply pack you need to use all your tools actively, and worry less about ammo efficiency and more about tempo. Every bug hole should have a gas grenade on it, a few blasts on the explosive crossbow shots and blasting down elites with hmg. You will get it all back. That's the beauty of the supply pack. Be aggressive with your tools, don't just use it to make your support a primary. I would also replace toughness with experimental stims, because you will get them back. Pre-pop your stims and zoom. Ultimately you want to get 2 grenades, two stims and full ammo from every supply pack.
Use this weapon on the lowest fire rate, and make sure to aim down sights to ensure accuracy. Crouching and aiming down sights turns you into a portable sentry
I love the HMG, but it still needs a lot of work. Stability still needs some tweaks. It needs more damage and I still make the argument that it doesn’t need more mags, it needs to be belt fed from a backpack. 1000-1500 rounds, don’t change the fire rate options and it’d be my go to every time. When it comes to armors, would to see them implement a perk system. At this point we have so many armors with the same damn perks on them, it’d be nice to able to add the perks we want to whatever drip we want to wear, also would help specialize, maybe a heavy gunner for example. Put peak physique and the bonus to accuracy while kneeling on an armor and you’re good to go. Just make us use medals or samples to move perks around.

Literally the HMG is not a heavy killer anyway just keep the 25 more rounds and revert it back to the previous damage model.
Btw, I think you shot and killed your teammate at 3.57. The 2 of them was basically behind the bugs you where hosing down with the HMG and a bullet probably killed him
i want to make this thing work so bad but it never quite hits, maybe if the commando buff gave recoil reduction but this thing is just so unweild, I get that's the point but its really just impractical even on the slowest fire mode.
Facts. Think of it like the AMR. The heavy penetration is really there just to do 100% damage against medium enemies. It’s not quite for the larger enemies.
i find the machine gun fun, but still weak compared to any other stratagem, if Arrowhead remove the still standing animation and make MGs able to run as you reload, surely will be the right move to make them good as any other stratagem. I find the HMG 101 the only viable choise, it deal more damage of any MGs, 300 total ammo like the mg-206, highest damage and penetration.
This guy has to be trolling. The orbital rail cannon strike and 110 mm rocket pods are arguably some of the worst stratagems in the game. The rail cannon is only ever going to kill one enemy, and it’s on a 3 1/2 minute cool down and the 110 mm pods are so inconsistent in killing a target, especially if it’s moving.
I feel like the HMG should have a belt-fed backpack with 3 vertical stacks of 100-150 rounds that you can see deplete as you shoot. Kind of like the autocannon backpack

You keep saying the damage needs upping. It isn't the damage that is low. It's the durable damage that's low.
vs charger, aim for one of the legs
Facts. Think of it like the AMR.
The heavy penetration is really there just to do 100% damage against medium enemies.
It’s not quite for the larger enemies.
meh still not enough for me to use it needs a way bigger buff then that to make it viable in my opinion
its a top tier bot gun, kind of waisted against bugs
Facts.
I used it after taking a long break from bots.
I couldn’t stop shooting it.
if you bring red stratagems for the HEAVY units then what's the HEAVY machine gun's for? 😂😂😂
that's just how bad it is
Still shit, even MG43 is waaaaaaayyyyyy better at medium mob clearing.
Heavy mg still sucks I used it today
It’s definitely not for bugs.
Why don't you pick up samples? Just cause you are maxed out doesn't mean your team is too.
i find the machine gun fun, but still weak compared to any other stratagem, if Arrowhead remove the still standing animation and make MGs able to run as you reload, surely will be the right move to make them good as any other stratagem.
