Ads work. You may not think they do, or think that nobody pays attention to them, but it relies more on subconscious impressions than active participation.
The only reasons I've seen ads (excluding in-video advertising done by the creators of the videos, those I skip but see just enough of them to possibly affect me) in the last five years is: 1. watching TV at a friend's house 2. Occasionally trying out the DuckDuckGo browser which plays youtube videos in a seperate window, but if I want to comment I have to go to actual youtube and then the ads do come through and it autoplays so I have to stop them before commenting. So I have some improving to do, but I am pretty close to 0% ads in my life, and I like it that way. My point is: You can't be affected by ads you don't experience.
Whenever you see an add, you should ask yourself if you want to pay for that add. If the question is no, then don't ever buy something from that company.
