    I've got 289,000 miles and mine runs perfectly. I talked to the officer when I bought it. He said the design specs called for a vehicle which could be jumped from a dead battery, then sit idling all day in the sun on the side of the highway with no loss in AC, no overheating and fully charge the battery at idle. When i hit those hour long backups, i don't have to open a window, just put it idle when not moving. It's a beast.

      Most Crown Vics will come to you with the rear doors not opening from the inside, the rear windows not able to roll down from the rear switches, the horn not able to honk, the rear seat completely missing, and various other nuisances depending on how it was maintained before you got it. The fixes for the doors and windows are cheap and easy. The horn is often just a cut wire. Buying a rear seat can cost up to a couple hundred dollars. But even if you spent several thousand dollars on fixes, you would still be way ahead "bang for the buck" than with another vehicle. The car shown in the video, all in, was less than $4,000. Try finding another vehicle for $4,000 or less that offers everything a Crown Vic does.

    My dad bought some kitchen set thing from target. He tried to pick it up in his Ford Taurus...not enough room....so he asked me....I have an 02 crown vic...I pull up to target, and the guy that works there brings the set over to put it in my trunk...I open the trunk, and the guy said "Now thats a trunk! this a type of car that sits 5 and sleeps 7!" lmao

    I bought my 06 P71 for $500, hit in the front. All black detectives car with 125,000, super clean with a 3.55 limited slip. I put $800 into fixing it, and now runs perfect. Spent another few hundred on tinted windows and Mustang Bullitt wheels and now have a nice comfortable ride that runs and handles pretty good for $1500 bucks.

      W & J's Handy Dad Exactly man. I have a 96 Ford F150 with 5.0L Windsor V8 with 203,386 miles on it and it's still going strong. I bought the truck back in Wentzville MO back in October of 2015 for $3300 with my own money that I saved up by working two summer jobs, taking care of my neighbor's dog, also having birthday money, Christmas money, and graduation money so that way I won't have to be in huge dept unlike you would with a new car. The truck also runs good, drives good, and has pickup and go.

    I've driven a 97 Crown Vic P71, for a big car thing had some balls. The look people will give you and what they'll do is priceless. Best part is when your in the passing lane on the interstate, people will usually get out of the way. One of my favorite cars I've driven, only downside was gas. I had to fill up about twice a week cause of my commute. Damn near 70 miles round trip. But I still miss driving that car, sadly it was sold a couple years ago.

    I just bought a 2002 with 225k. Immaculate upstate SC sheriff car, silver. I drove these cars as a cab driver. I've wanted one ever since then, about 15 years back. It needs an alignment, and I jacked it up, checked for play in the wheels. No play. The engine is smooth. Transmission in good shape. I finally got a real car, no rust underneath, etc. It's a silver car, so some of the paint on the hood has flaked, not a hard thing to fix. All in all, I'm glad this car showed up nearby with a for sale sign in it. The guy sold it, because his son kept getting tickets.

    I have a full-sized spare, Power inverter, mini air compressor, small metal toolbox, bin of fluids, torque wrench and breaker bar, small camping stove, first aid kit, and a road hazard kit at all times in my trunk. Then when I go on snowboard trips I can still fit my Electric Cooler, 3 snowboards sideways, laundry bag, trash bag, extra water, and still have some room. and i set the back seat up as a bed. I have a microwave on the front passenger foot area and a food bin on the passenger seat. I keep my gear in the back when im driving and when i go to sleep i throw it all in the front. 2005 Grand Marquis 88k miles

    • @nonelost1
      @nonelost1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aspie Otaku Those that still have the hard plastic backseats for the suspects I would imagine are not "comfy". But then again, I don't imagine municipal police departments were overly concerned about the comfort of suspects, especially when the time came to purchase new police cars. I figure those hard plastic backseats are not only the cheapest ones to get, but also most tolerant of physical abuse by suspects.

      I worked as a temp, in an automotive engine lab, and I saw that they are built to last. There are no moving lifters, the have lash adjusters ( lifters that sit in a pocket, rockers pivot between them and the valves. Rockers have roller bearings. Each side has its own timing chain running off the crank to the cams. With proper maintenance, and decent, correct viscosity oil, they will run for years.

    I have a CV Sport, and I love it. Basically a P71, but with more luxury items. They are relatively easy to work on, but the repairs can be very expensive. This car has more "modules" on it than you can shake a stick at. Door control module, body control module (?), lighting control module, just to name a few. The lighting control module is a recall item, but they run about $500 new. Door control module: $250. Replacing certain ignition coil pack require removal of a fuel rail.
    The 4.6 is a remarkable engine, though. Practically bullet proof that can live with all sorts of abuse. They sound really nice at high revs. The body can take a pretty good hit, and survive. Smooth, quiet, roomy, with a cavernous trunk, well laid out ergonomics. High end switch gear, and a great transmission.

    • @Clapxiomatic
      @Clapxiomatic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not basically a "P71" as the P71 does have 250 HP/ 297 ft/lbs tune and better airbox.With your sitting at 239/287.
      These cars need all the help they can get in the power department, even the marauder is only "so-so" in the speed department as many turbo econobox 4 bangers would give it a run for its money.

No rust, to date. Interior seems to be the weakest link, showing its wear commensurate with mileage. Performance? Even at high mileage, this buggy performs every bit as strongly as or more so than the 1963½ Galaxie 500 with 390, 4bbl, 4 speed I owned in the late sixties. And it gets mid-twenties gas mileage doing it.

    My 2006 P71 has 146K and the kevlar in the door panels. I bought it as is for $1100, oil not changed in 12,000 miles and still the tires wanted to light up if I hit the gas too hard. You gotta feather it or it will burn the treads off. Now with a cold air flow system, fresh oil, new tires, plugs, and coil overs she is ready for another 200K to 500K more. Best car for the money I ever bought. My Daddy would be proud of me. He owned a 1977 Ford LTD with a 409 cid 6.6L and had grill lights and a siren/ PA system he bought aftermarket. I have watched many videos of the Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis of the 1990s and 2000's. A nephew owned a 1994 Crown Vic and used it as a taxi, and loved it. Also, my sister has a 2007 CVPI and loves it. And I was the unofficial chauffeur for my elderly friend, Mae, from 2010 to 2012. For 4000 miles, she let me drive her around in her low mileage 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis "Ultimate Edition". This was one of the most fun cars to drive that ever I drove in my whole life!
    Conclusion: I hereby nominate the 1992-2011 Ford Crown Victoria's/Mercury Grand Marquis's (especially the CVPI P 71 police interceptor versions, as well the GM "Ultimate Editions") as the next ultimate classic car built since World War II. They will be to the 21st-century, what the tri five Chevy's were to the 20th century. And while we're at it, add the last (1998 and newer) of the big Lincoln Town Cars as well. Perhaps they will serve the role as the 21st Century's equivalent of the 1959 Cadillac's, four-door suicide door Lincoln convertibles of the 1960s, or even of the classic 1930s Packards. Only time will tell.
    All you collectors out there take note, now is the time to collect multiple CVs/GMs/TCs (especially the CVPI P71 versions and the rare GM "ultimate edition" versions) and store them away in your heated barn! Because in 10, 20, 30 years from now, I predict they're going to be going for well over 50 grand for one in mint condition in today's US dollars! Even a "junker" that is unwrecked, but restorable, will be going for thousands of dollars in the four figures in today's US dollars. And even an unrestorable "junker" will have value as a potential "rat rod", a parts car, or at least as a garden decoration!
    I say this especially since many CVPI's have been and are even now being scrapped by wasteful government "clunker" programs and being junked, even though they are still in good condition! This is a pathetic shame!

    Great and cool video. I myself love and own an all white with black rims 06 P71. On top of what you had in the video, it also has the aluminum driveshaft that adds to it's performance. I believe the P71 also has more torque than the civilian version. And also the engine and oil system allows it to run at high speeds and rpms for a long time without overheating or causing damage, but you'll burn more oil at high rpm. But the car will be fine like a champ.

    Just good solid cars. The 4.6L 2V motor is bullet proof unless you're a moron. With regular maintenance, the body will go before the drive train will. Most everything is easy to fix, and accessible. In my experience with my 2008 P71, the fuel economy using E85 is actually about 30% less then E10 87 regular gas. I still run E85 exclusively, as it's a cleaner burning fuel and has excellent cleaning properties. Added bonus is it helps American farmers a little bit.

      Check and make sure the wire harness was hooked back up. If it was, test the light assembly (off the car) with a known 12v power source and see if they light up. If they light up, use a voltmeter to test the wire harness with the brake pressed. If no power there, start tracing the wires until you find a cut or something disconnected. Watch my how to change 3rd brake light video if you have any questions about getting it off the car. Hope that helps.
