Got both the Barton 3 post shifter and the MGW shifter on two different mustangs. All I can tell you is that they really make no difference in how this terrible mt82 operates. The Barton gives you more of a positive shift where you can hear and feel the gear slide in kind of like the t56. The MGW is more of a stock feel but offers more resistance to lockout. What I would say is go ahead save your money and put it towards a t56 magnum swam a few years down the road.
I installed a t56 in my 2014 5.0 and when I’m in Mexico going 100+ it vibrates very aggressive (feels like it’s gunna blow up) seen it could be a driveshaft issue?? It’s drives perfectly fine up until 100+ Heard driveshaft shop balances them at low speeds and not at high speeds
you'll love the upgrade. one of the best mods I have done I had a local shop build my drive shaft for me same day. once we upgraded that we found the next weak link. blew two built 8.8 rear ends. after that just decided to go to a 9 inch. it has held together great so far.
8.8 just as strong as 9in and more efficient. 9inch burns 20-40wheel more over 8.8. I know stock 8.8's running 850wheel for years. They are not weak links.
maximus vonce the way the rear end companies explained it to me was it wasn't the power it was the weight and violence of dropping the clutch that does it. they told me to go 8.8 again too until I told em how heavy the car was. Was told by Mosier that anything above 3200-3400 lbs at that weight and power will continue to grenade 8.8s. which is what we were doing. the proof is that every 30-40 passes we were replacing the 8.8s. Went to the 9 inch and 200+ passes later no signs of trouble. they might hog a bit more power but we gained almost a tenth after the swap. My guess is the 8.8s would likely hold together better in an auto though.
Eaton TruTrac 8.8 you will not grenade. 9inch rear is stone age technology. 8.8 superior design and efficiency. You are losing power with dinosaur 9inch. Call J&S gear in Huntington beach, Ca and ask for Jon. He put an 8.8 Eaton TruTrac with 410 gears into my fuel injected 68 Mustang. Awesome rearend. He never uses 9inch rears anymore.
We actually were using the Eaton TruTrac in the 8.8. And it did hold together. I actually still have it on the shelf. It was always the ring gear that would let go. Every time we pulled em out every single tooth would be cracked ( well the ones that hadn't sheered off.) I even still have em hanging on the garage wall. LOL. After blowing through the stock rear end, then two built ones something had to change. After talking with 3 different Rear end builders, Moser, Currie, and Strange they all ended up advising me to go with the 9 inch. In fact one of them stated late model, heavy, high HP mustangs racers that had gone through a couple 8.8 rear ends were one of their more common customers for the 9 inch upgrade. I'd consider the 8.8 again if we drop 800 lbs off the car but that isn't gonna happen any time soon. So far the 9" pro gear with a spool is holding together just fine with no problems, MANY more passes without breaking, and didn't hurt ET at all. The quick swap rear end is a nice option should we ever want to take advantage of it as well. Keep in mind this isn't just a weekend racer we take out once and get a few passes in once in awhile. No longer a street car and never sees the road. We beat the ever loving crap out of it with usually 30-50 passes every single weekend. All with a pretty darn violent launch. Kudos to Livernois for building a great motor that holds together through it all. The motor itself already has close to 600 passes on it and has been running like a champ. No issues at all.
Speedometer wires are only used as of 2 on that T56 while MT82 uses 3 wires with a return wire included. I heard that the return wire must be grounded to the body in order to let the speedometer on a cluster function properly without any additional modifications. I may consider swapping with either T56 or TR6060 if it is not that complicated at all.
Thanks for the video. I get some many people flipping out when I tell them I put 4.30s in my car after a 6060 swap. Going to send them this video to shut them up.
Great information in your videos. thank you very much for being so descriptive and knowledgable about these things! gonna check out some other videos of yours. :)
If you would mount the shifter in the front hole on the T56 it would be to far foward, it would be under the dash, the mounting point you refer to is the point that S10 trucks used on the T5
I want to run the Magnum in my 2011. Debating which gear ratio set to get. I have 3.73's in the rear and the car is running a twin screw. I don't do track racing so it is mostly for driving and having a bit of fun now and then...
Hey Alex are you doing any coyote swaps for individuals ? I have been trying to get my car together for almost 3 yrs. I tried putting it in last week come to find out I have to change k member due to bbk headers don't work with team z. Hi, I was about checking out 2014 GT deals here in Europe, when I came across this info on transmission issues. So is there any hope to find a GT with drivable MT82 with no issues, or should I think right away to add 4k€ for this T56 alternative transmission ?
@@YDBT4LIFE thx Alejandro, good to know. For the 1st GT experience I would not be ready to invest in T56. So what kind of checks before purchase must be done and what "symptoms" should make me stay away from a particular car? Thank you.
Hey Alejandro, I just got my first Coyote ('11 Premium Manual) and I have noticed that shifting feels soft and fragile, eerily similar to my '99 SLK230. What would you recommend around $250ish that'll give the MT82 a little longer life and more solid feel to it? I doubt I'll be going 500+ HP any time soon.

Mustangs are such a piece of junk. I could put up with the engine tick, cheap plastic interior and glitchy electronics, but that crap Chinese manual 6 speed in the GT was the last straw for me! Sold the Mustang after 2 months! I bought a real car, with a quality transmission and couldn't be happier! No wonder Ford stopped making cars...I guess we should all be thankful for that!

It just broke the shift forks like you did and it shakes like hell. Im going to try and get it warrantied, but i feel the only peace of mind option is to get a t56. Mt82.. more like 'empty 82'
haha my mom had a futura 2000
Mustangs are such a piece of junk. I could put up with the engine tick, cheap plastic interior and glitchy electronics, but that crap Chinese manual 6 speed in the GT was the last straw for me! Sold the Mustang after 2 months! I bought a real car, with a quality transmission and couldn't be happier! No wonder Ford stopped making cars...I guess we should all be thankful for that!
Why are you commenting on every single one of my videos basically telling people you can't drive LOL you're a joke
Alex if you see this. Im feeling a lot like this guys comment right now i cant lie.....im a die hard mustang fan. I bit the bullet and got a used 2018. It just broke the shift forks like you did and it shakes like hell. Im going to try and get it warrantied, but i feel the only peace of mind option is to get a t56. Its really shitty considering i just out 10 grand down on a 40k car just to have to pay another 8 grand to have t56 with a mantic so it will drive like it should without breaking..... i might as well have bought a fkn mach 1. Don't tell me i dont know how to drive you broke yours too😂 the mt-82 has a bad name for a reason. I didnt believe it until i owned one myself
