      @@UKLegalCarryKnives I think this is an over-reaction. I don't see how a flipper is a "button, spring or other device in or attached to the knife", nor do I see how it can be said to work "automatically", both of which are requirements of this new definition. A flipper is merely an exposed part, or extension of the blade, used for opening the knife manually - as is a normal nail nick or pinch hold, if we're going to be brutally logical about it! Yes, a flipper's meant to be one-handed-opening, and if the legislators had wanted to go down that road they could have, but they didn't. Our cause is not helped by the spreading of anecdotal urban myth or by barrack-room lawyers exercising overactive imaginations. At least you are sufficiently grounded to publish a link to what the law actually says!

    I like the CEO, but why change the blade shape do much? OK, it had to lose 3mm in length to comply with UK rules, but it didn’t need a different shape. I think that the stud went to make it deliberately two hand opening. This was probably to anticipate the changes to UK law, but, though flippers have slipped in to a grey area, thumb studs are specifically exempted from any ban. Personally, I don’t really mind and am happy with this knife. It’ll certainly see some picket time when it gets home. Meantime, I’m very happy with my Wasabi! It has the thumbstud in the UK too and we can get the flipper, however the blade is too long to be a UK legal EDC, we can own them but without a relevant reason to carry it (usually work related or sport/hobbies) we can't EDC them. The one in the video has a shorter blade length to be EDC legal (blades should be 3 inches and under) in the UK, however thumbstuds are legal so they could have kept that design feature on the shorter blade too.

    I spoke to Heinnie Haynes about this. I wanted to buy a Kershaw Blur, but they couldn’t get me one. The 2019 legislation hasn’t been passed yet, and these knives are still totally legal, but customs are confiscating them as they arrive. They have no right to do this, and you are 90% certain to win on appeal, but it costs £5000-£6000 to actually bring an appeal against HMRC, so they get away with it. Carrying one outside your home would be a different matter, as the blade length law HAS been passed into legislation.

    • @UKLegalCarryKnives
      @UKLegalCarryKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you advise me on the blade length law?

    • @frankmason5525
      @frankmason5525 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, it is fairly long, and can get complex, but I can advise you on the basics. First of all, you have to realise that there is a huge difference between owning a blade, and carrying one. You can own most things, apart from automatic knives (ie switchblades), gravity knives, butterfly knives locking knives and a few other categories, but they have to be on your own premises.
      However, carrying them is a different matter. Basically, the law allows you to carry non-locking pocket knives with a blade length up to 3 inches (7.62 cm) without any need for a valid reason. You are allowed to carry a knife which exceeds these guidelines in public, but please remember: you then do need a good reason to carry it.
      A few pointers.
      1. Good Reason
      You can carry a 10 inch butchers knife in public if you are on your way to or from work, and happen to be a butcher. However, the police are unlikely to accept the excuse that you had the 10 inch butchers knife to trim your sandwiches with.
      2. Multi Tools
      You can carry a multi tool (eg a Leatherman) with a blade longer than three inches, because for some reason it falls under a different law.
      3. Your car
      If you are found with an oversized knife in your car, it counts as being in a public place, rather than being on your property.
      4. Cutting edge
      A lot of policemen do not know the law, and have confiscated knives and even arrested people for having illegal length knives when they shouldn’t have done. They measured the blade, found it was over three inches, and Bingo!
      However, the three inches refers to the cutting edge, not the whole blade. Some knives have a choil between the handle and the start of the cutting edge to protect the fingers. THIS DOES NOT COUNT AS PART OF THE BLADE. As long as the cutting edge is under three inches, even if you are arrested and charged, engage a solicitor, and you will win in court, the case will be dismissed.
      Hope this helps.

      😅 It's just personal preference, had they left the thumb stud I'd have been all over this, without it, it sort of sits in between sleek primary knife and slow traditional, my pockets are black and white!

      Just a little slower and more obvious, I simply prefer to be as quick and inconspicuous as possible when using knives in this country. I of course enjoy plenty of nail nick knives as well.

    Disagree with you on the thumb stud. i think it was smart in crkts part to remove the thumb stud. Because of the design of the knife were the blad hids with in the handle and the detent you have to push past when pulling the blade out i find that unlike a lot of thumb stub knives where you can open them by flicking or slowy rotating the knife with the thumb stud you can only really confortably open the ceob one handed by flicking it. when ever i try to open the knife slowy its so akward and uncortable and i almost cut my self every time.
    And when it flicks open it has a pretty loud sound and would easy draw attention to you
    Since the thumb stud on the regurle ceo is pretty much usless as a slow opener and becuase of the laws and the way cops in the uk are it make sense why they got rid of it. And some cops in the uk might look at the facted that it flip and how fast it does and with sound it makes and get you in trouble for having it.
