I like the aesthetic of the thumbstud one, but unfortunately (as a leftie) I couldn't easily one-handed deploy it. Really wish more pocket knives with single sided thumbstuds offered the ability to choose which side the thumbstud is on. :/

I like both as well. Ive noticed the issue closing that you mentioned and find it easier to close by twisting in your hand a little and pulling the lock with my index finger as opposed to thumb. I prefer the flipper because I prefer tip-up pocket carry but like you said, they are both great lightweight knives. I usually edc something a little sturdier…I love the Benchmade 940 Osbourne and the Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight, check them out if you haven’t already!

The original CEO is my most used EDC. I work in an office environment. I wear a dress shirt and love how the CEO sits in my shirt pocket. I use it every day to process envelopes and boxes.
The flipper version is still good, but not as snappy, and I can't use it as a shirt pocket carry as easily. I used it for a few days, then went back to the original.
I recently got the Blade HQ exclusive CEO with the Shred Carbon Fiber handle, upgraded smokewash D2 blade, and bronze liner. It opens with an even faster, more solid snap than the original, and just looks and feels even better than the original.
It's about $100, but if you like the CEO, it's the best!

I got Samior GP035 Carbon fiber flipper which is real Carbon fiber with Bohler M390 steel blade for $63 and weighs @ 1 Oz. Smoothest action I've ever seen, and almost silent opening. Drops closed. Highly recommend if you like this style of EDC. Cheers PS my other daily carry are CRKT Dually or Civivi Elementum Carbon fiber with Damascus blade, depending on situation or anticipated use.
I also have a Boker Magnum that lives on my desk.

The basic thumbstud CEO is the toughest tuxedo knife I think you can buy. Also the one the most people will understand even if they aren’t into knives. You can slow roll a thumb stud too which is cool when flipping isn’t appropriate.
My favorite tux knife for me though is the Kizer Squidward. It went under the radar but the purple G10 one has been my main EDC for a year. I love the blade and 154CM.. it’s a few steps up from the CEO there and the same price.

I love the flipper version myself. Mine does make the same satisfying sound as your regular CEO though. A lot of knife stuff is definitely personal preference. The ball detent in the flipper model is very pronounced. I find it has more blade retention, but requires more effort to open.

Flipper seems to have a soft detent. It prevents to build pressure before the detent breaks and the blade should fly out; but crkt is budget. U get what u pay for. The CEO is a remake of a custom knife by Mr Richard Rogers who builds his knives by hand and hand tunes the action. A custom version of the CEO is probably in the $500-$1000. Crkt is mass produced. Both do have bearings, it’s just the detent on your flipper model is soft and sucks. I could tell when you flipped it. The thumbstud version works so well is because of the placement of the thumbstud allows that pressure build as you start to flick it, then a tuned detent would break once you hit that optimal pressure to make it rocket out. Just a friendly FYI. Any knife questions give me a holler. I have extensive production, mid-tech and custom knife knowledge and experience as well in firearms. I will subscribe since you seem to have a variety of topics you review. Nice job.
