    I do have to say, it is a laser thru cardboard. The shortness of the blade helps reduce friction, I agree a thinner grind would make it a bit fragile.

    Today we got in a few at the gun shop I work in so I picked one up. I had the first version which had some serious flaws but after flipping one a few times and for the money it’s a no brainer. It will do well at opening boxes. And while it doesn’t out flip my Spyderco Smock it certainly was a lot cheaper. Can you imagine this thing with a compression like like the Smock?!

    I think the flipper is absolutely adorable knife if there ever was any. I really love the design and its size, and pretty much everything about it.
    EDIT: If they made a hundred bucks version of this, I'd buy multiple just because.
    EDITED: I had a tiny rant about how the blade got a bit loose after a couple of weeks. But dammit I only now realized that a T8 does the job to tightening the blade. I thought it was pressed together and didn't notice it's torx before watching this video.

    So glad they made this in a "FLIPPER" style! I have the BladeHQ exclusive Green Micarta/Copper CEO & I wanted sooo badly to like/love it but it's just a huge pain in the ass to deploy!!! Now I do have smaller hands than most I guess because I have a Medium glove size at best🤦‍♂️ lol! But the Green Micarta scaled/Copper Lined or accented CEO is a very attractive gent's carry! But again, if you don't kick that suckered out "JUST RIGHT"... Its just NOT good! *for me anyway!* so the one I have in a flipper would be 👌. Thanks for review buddy!

    What the blade looks like is a Pukko blade made by Puronvarsi in Finland. It has the same profile and the same “rhomboid” cross section where the the widest part of the blade is the middle. But yeah, it’s a little skinnier. Delicate little beauty ain’t it. Now they’re making then in D2 and even S30V. Excellent.

    Straight OOTB my CEO flipper was very difficult to deploy, the lock up was to high. I didn't mind though, I always disassemble and lube up a new knife. It was easy to just adjust the detent. It opens and just falls shut now.
    I agree with the steel, of course I would love a higher end steel, I don't know why CRKT hasn't got the message yet, but for the price point and what its probably gonna be used for the steel is just fine. Practically any steel can open letters

    It's not flashy like my Hom Chimera. It's not wicked-shaped like my CRKT Fossil. It's not edgy and controversial like my Microtech OTF, but it's my favorite EDC knife.
    It's simple, effective, elegant, professional, effective. Better, it's very reminiscent of a Japanese tanto, and it's absolutely beautiful!

    I'm pondering on the various models of this knife. This Flipper is a great option. Not thrilled with the blade quality, but like you said, I wouldn't use it for a lot of cutting anyways.
    During my research, I've noticed something rather interesting as it relates to the original CEO (thumb stud), the 7096. This leads me to submit to you a quick question. Do you have any insight on the 7096 version (the original) also being sold as a 7096K? Trying to assess what the "K" is all about and IF it is a legit "CRKT" production or a "K"nockoff.

    Until they upgrade the trash steel on this knife I just can't get excited about it. It's a cool design but in 2021 chinese alphabet soup steel really isn't acceptable when so many alternatives exist with better steels by other makers.
    Really I'm kind of at my wit's end with CRKT, they insist on using trash steel on most of their knives, then once in awhile make a nice blade with good steel and make it a damn limited edition.
    I really do hope they start doing better as I'm about to write them off entirely.

    • @kropotkln
      @kropotkln 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that for any single alphabet soup Chinese steel there is a huge variance in quality depending entirely on manufacturer heat treat. In my experience the best 8Cr13MoV (thank you, Spyderco) is actually comparable in terms of wear resistance to Buck's 420HC, which is impressive! But with a sub-par heat treat (I am looking at you, Kershaw) it can be noticeably softer than any average 420HC. My CEO feels subjectively somewhere in the middle. In today's market, all American-distributed 8Cr13MoV knives should probably drop 5-10 dollars off their asking price. At the CEO price range, CRKT really should have contacted Ganzo's supplier of 9Cr18MoV, which I think is the gold standard of cheap Chinese steels and compares favorably to a good American 440C. (!!!)
      Nowadays we are so inundated with incredible powder metallurgy steels with almost magical qualities that we forget that 20 years ago 440C was considered a "supersteel" in its own right! Once upon a time we were all getting by just fine with 420J.
