    In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to use, what I consider to be, an underutilized mask in Lightroom, and along the way, I teach how to create a photographic cliche (but a fun one).

    Wow, great video for the mask tool I wasn't really utilizing. You opened up a whole world of potential for certain photos. Thank you!

    To make it easier to select the letters using a mouse , hold shift when you click, it will do straight lines point to point....get far more accurate/precise masks that way

    Good video. When it comes to changing the brush size, I use the mouse wheel in LR. That does't work in PS though.

    I like selective color. I use it when I want and I enjoy the results. The new (now, not so new) masking in Lightroom makes it easier and better. Thank you Adobe.

    I found you can use "subtract object" to clean up areas like the holes in the D and O. You can also use it to add missing limbs etc when selecting subject. Select/subtract object is incredibly useful.

    The adding to for objects is great. I had not thought of using it that way for multiple objects. Thank you. And I really like the color as you did it for this image.

    As part of your selection of “KODAK”, you could have used the Intersect function to combine the letters with the gold color, thus merging the brush with the gold. Overall, a fine tutorial. Thanks.

    Thank you Anthony. It is always valuable to review all the new and different ways to benefit from the masking tool. It would be great if you can make a video of how to prevent the haloing, as seen around the building in this video (maybe you already have?).

    cool video, thank you
    how did you enlarge the letters in lightroom. I've never seen that before.

    This was helpful and I will definitely benefit from this useful technique, a further improvement on how I use masks. One thing you did seemed really amazing. When you worked on the letters you somehow enlarged that area, making it easier to work, not having to zoom in on the whole image. Is that a feature I know nothing about or your wizardry in creating a useful visual video? Thanks for sharing,

    How do you magnify just a portion of an image? Thank you.

    • @apeel2008
      @apeel2008 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      He did NOT magnify just part of the image in LR. Instead, he magnified part of of the screen recording during editing of the screen recording so you could see it closer. I was surprised that he did not zoom-in in LR to the letters so he could create better masks and we could see the selection better, but as Anthony said, he was “being lazy”! 😅😅

      @@apeel2008 Ah ha! No wonder I could not figure out how to do that!

    Good tutorial thanks. I guess rather than using a brush to remove the centres of the O & D, you could also have intersected the mask with color and used the picker on the yellow to select it?

  • @eavilev
    @eavilev ปีที่แล้ว

    BTW - the appearance of selectively enlarging a portion of the image for masking purposes or what ever was really nice. Heh Adobe - how about allowing us to mark off a portion of an image for enlarging on the screen! Enlarging the entire image is useful but I often want to see the entire picture while working on a small portion.

    Cool technique-- I know you did this quickly but there is a halo around the building - how would you fix that or prevent in the first place.

    Selective color just got overused. IMO, it's neat when done properly.
    I recall seeing a selective color tutorial from you or someone else 10ish years ago and there was no mention of 'cliche'. Image in that video had a red bus from london as an example, pretty sure it was you.

    I think many if not most LRC users will use a mouse and not a tablet. So if you use the mouse it is probably more representative IMO

    "Cliche"?, Ouch.... I did this to a B&W just last month, now I'm devastated. ;-) Ha, ha, ha, ha...

    When you have letters selected use duplicate and invert rather than invert and you both masks and don't need your second step.

    IMNSHO, this is no moe 'cliché' than all. The bloody stupid-hero movies that use off-blue or off-brown/yellow to show "the past" ...
