“Outstanding” should be your next listen.
They did it already
@@dtoxbrewer3696 Must’ve missed it, I’ll see if I can find it.

This is my favorite Gap Band song!
I was listening to this song in my Air Force dorm room when there was a knock on my door. After opening the door, the guy standing there asked me "Where is your roommate?" I told him I didn't have one. He looked surprised and said everyone thought there was a black person living in my room because of all the music they heard me listening to. I'm not black.
If you feel the groove color is irrelevant. I pity all the people black, white or other that haven't really experienced the groove. Welcome aboard the party train.
That’s racist should’ve been reported
I listened to a lot of pre-rap funk and soul myself. Got so into it. Sadly, I felt like a lot if my friends didn’t get it.
@@Wordsmyth8 Sucks for them.
Music has no color. You either like it or you don't. Take a look at the smooth jazz artists. They are players.
This song is sooo late 70's/early 80's in the best way!! Love the instruments, melody, harmony, Vocals(!), all of it!!!
As a former Booker T grad I have walked the streets of Greenwood, Archer, and Pine!
This & Early In The Morning are my fav Gap band songs
🐓 Early in the Morning 😎
This is one of their best!
This song came out my senior year in high school. I can remember dancing to this one at the Prom. Class of 1983.
Funny, it was released in January of 1981 off their Gap Band III album from late 1980.
@@Seagate1-dh6it Yep. I was in 6th grade. Loved these slow jams.
One of the coldest slow jams of the 80’s for sure!!!
Best tune of Gap Band, for sure.
Guys I'm in the 918! Just saw you two interviewed on 6 or 23. Good job! Got to love our Gap boys.
Uncle Charlie!!🎹🎹🎹
He gives such a great show!!
The Gap Band is known for their bangers but I love this song because it showcases the softer side of The Gap Band! Charlie Wilson has great range and it can really be heard in this song!❤❤
One of the smoothest jams.
The Gap Band Is The Best 💯
Most definitely!😊💯
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Oops Up Side Your Head"!!!
Yup and Humpin
Oh YEAH!!!
Every Okie needs to walk Greenwood, Archer, and Pine, visit Cains Ballroom, talk to The Driller, and have a conversation at The Center Of The Universe
This is a band from Tulsa OK.
GAP Greenwood, Archer and Pine. Three streets in T-Town. I used to live a half block off east Pine while growing up partially in Tulsa. Great reaction as always guys. So glad you've checked out soooo much of their material.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Yes, Jay and Amber you'll love "Oops Up Side Your Head."
Burn RuBBer on me! You got it! It was my friends favorite. He was murdered in the eighties tryin to stop a robbery in Bakersfield, Ca. At a Gas station. He had two beautiful girls. I still miss him, Oscar you were the awesome dude.🙏 I hope I get to see you again my friend.
An all-time favorite. It just might be their best song. That said, I think "Humpin" is their most fun song, you would be smiling and laughing all through it!
This is my favorite Gap Band slow jam! Charlie Wilson still performs (lead singer) live concerts. Unfortunately, both of Charlie's brothers (Robert and Ronnie) have passed away. But I listen to their music regularly.
Whoah! Haven't heard this one in eons....One of my Gap Band favorites!
My this is one of my favorite songs ❤
oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Charlie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My goodness! It's 1980 all over again. Loving it. I'm glad you two are digging these 1980 vibes.
love it when the young generation listens to old skool because today's music doesn't do it and you can't feel it !
I adore the Gap Band. Wow, it’s been a long time since I heard this gem.
This was one of the few "slow jams" that filled the dance floor with couples. ❤️
Seasons No Reason To Change is my favorite slow song by the Gap Band.
Just imagine that there was a time when we'd get new songs by groups like The Gap Band, Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang, Ohio Players, The Isley Brothers, Rufus, LTD and more just about every few weeks. It was a magical time for funk and R&B.
Besides the fact that I an jealous of you , as a vocalist these guys are the only people you can train your vocals because they still used the old classic way of singing without autotune and machines. They was sangin
🎯 Non-R&B fans, post your negative comments as you always do but you will _NEVER_ kill our joy with _our_ music. ✌🏽
I don't see any negative comments?
@michaelasay8587 I don't see any negative comments. Also don't see the request for Elvis that seems to be on every review of an R&B song. 🙄
This cut is one of their best. I love GAP!
Rainbow in Your Eyes -Leon and Mary Russell recorded in Tulsa 1976 from the Wedding album
Great reactions! The Gap Band is definitely legendary. Two years ago, I had the pleasure of seeing Charlie "Uncle Charlie" Wilson live. He is the only surviving member of the group and at the time, he was 69 years old. It was one of the best live shows I've ever seen! He is currently touring, so I highly suggest you try to catch his show. You won't regret it.
I was moonlighting as a secruity guard, it was about 3:00AM as I sat in my car trying to stay alert. Great songs like this help me stay focused! Long live Greenwood, Archer and Pine!
The song Outstanding is a must listen! 😊
They reacted to “Outstanding” on Feb 16, 2023. ✌🏽
Pure soul!!
Jay, another mellow jam by them is from the slbum after this called Seasons No Reason To Change. Listen to it now Jay!!
Yessss!!! GREAT song!!❤
The tone of the bass is incredible.
GAP band is awesome. Hello from Bartlesville!
Growing up in Tulsa this was almost a requirement to own. Some of Tulsa's best! I was a senior in high-school when this came out.
I wish anyone could have stood up groven to this live as I did back in the eighties during their absolute prime. Glorious love. Grooving in the living room. Just a wee bit slower than I did back then although, this one is my speed. Won't break a hip today. Maybe someone's heart instead. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Ah, one of their ballads but if you want their funkier stuff, check these out - Beep a Freak; Oops Upside Your Head, Humpin.
This song brings me right back!!! These guys are legends, period. So many iconic songs.
"The Best Of My Love" by T-Connection, "Two Occasions" by The Deele, "All This Love" by DeBarge, "Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)" by Maxwell, "Tell Me" by Groove Theory and "Sensitivity" by Ralph Tresvant are some great slow jams for you two. Speaking of DeBarge , El DeBarge has a solo song called "Love Always" that Amber would enjoy. Then there is Tony Toni Tone with "Anniversary", "Feels Good" and "Whatever You Want".
I was going to suggest Stay With Me by DeBarge just to see if they recognized all the songs that sampled it.
❤❤❤ you guys have the best music and the best reactions of anybody❤❤❤
So happy you guys discovered this gem from this amazing band. This song is timeless , it just sores, makes you wanna go and grab your significant other, and well you know what transpires next…❤❤❤
‘Outstanding’ is a terrific ballad and it’s sampled in another great dance cut, ‘Every Little Thing I Do’ by Soul for Real (feat Heavy D)
They reacted to “Outstanding” on Feb 16, 2023. ✌🏽
Favorite GAP Band recording, no question. A little trivia for you: If you listen to 'You're Always On My Mind' by SWV, you'll notice the main groove is basically a slowed down version of 'Yearnin'.
'Going in circles' is also one of their slow songs. It's so beautiful.
One of the smoothest cuts ever!
Beautiful classic, takes me back to my youth...you gotta do Humpin, it'll really funk you out!
Uncle Charlie did his thing then and still does it to this day. Early in the Morning, Outstanding and Car Wash by Rose Royce were songs that I played when I would leave for work.
They reacted to “Outstanding” on Feb 16, 2023 and “Early In The Morning” on Jan 23, 2022. ✌🏽
The Gap band got their name from the three major streets of Black Wall Street in Tulsa Oklahoma. Greenwood, Archer, Pine.
an ultimate slow dance jam , you could'nt help but fall in love with person you were digging on ; man i wish yall could've been there in 1981.
The Wilson Brothers are the real deal. Try this out. Lead singer Charlie Wilson has got some solid solo material. Charlie is awesome! Can't Live Without You was a hit.
That soaring guitar! Love it!
The Gap Band lead vocalist name is Charlie Wilson. Charlie Wilson was also a solo artist. My favorite Charlie Wilson song as a solo artist is the slow R&B song "There Goes My Baby"
Why do i feel uncomfortable saying I am a white woman who absolutely loves R&B, Soul, blues, jazz, funk, Rap, and hip hop music. I am a musician of 50 years experience. Experience in every genra. Just a pure lover of music in every form. Who cares what color my skin is. Can we finally move beyond this? I am Native ( Original) Canadian and also Ukrainian. You don't know me, and I don't know you. But we all have one major thing in common. Song, music. It connects us all. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Amen to that!! Music moves you.
@@gregoryjohnson9006 Thank you for that brother in God's world, not others world. We are all his beautiful children. Bless you Gregory. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
@@user-eh8zq1vi4e Peace and love!!
One of their best ballads that didn't get enough play was "We Can Make It Alright". Unbelievable!
The LEGENDARY Iconic Gap Band aka Wilson Brothers ❤❤❤
"Feel The Fire" (1980), duet by Stephanie Mills & Teddy Pendergrass.
This song reminds me of Saturday mornings as a kid... Either on some light cleaning duty mom figured a 6 or 7 year old could help with, or washing the car with dad, or playing out in the apartment courtyard while some of the other adults in the building had their windows open and the slow jams floated through the air. Seemed like the sun was always shining and flowers were always in bloom back then.
Best chillin out music, isnt it? Just cruising around or BBQ in the yard....my time, love the memories... Enjoy watch yall lovin it!
this one of favorite the gap band songs and charlie wilson voice takes you on a journey with tone been a fan since the early 80's
This is definitely my favorite by them!!
It’s midnight and this is putting me IN the mood…
They had some jams and these STILL hold up and sound just as good as the day they came out.
Alright Jay, you're a child of hip-hip right? Go Listen to "Life's A Bitch" by NAS. Your assignment for the evening. Go do it. It won't take long. Satisfaction guaranteed.
"No Hiding Place" off of Gap II. A little known joint, but one of my favorites!
Two of the few songs from my Gap Band faves you haven't reacted to is "Humpin'"and "Oops Up Side Your Head"...basically a jam session with Charlie basically being an MC the entire time.
I think y’all will love Bloodstone’s “Natural High” from this era ❤
love the guitar in this! also uncle charlie's voice!
I love Greenwood Archer and Pine (GAP). This is my favorite song by them along with Outstanding. Check out "Oops Upside Your Head" and "Humpin".
Great number from the Gap band hope you can get around to Heatwave again mind blowing decisions is a great tune worth a listen
I love The Gap band & I loved all the great soul music, plus Pop & Rock, depended on the song. “ Little Anthony & The Imperials…It Hurt So Bad “ is so darn good…please play it, you won’t be sorry! Thank you, love you guy’s! 👍👏👏👏♥️♥️🌹
The Gap Band singing "Going in Circles."
That's my jam. I worked with their Niece back in the day, she was cool.
Skates on.
I wasn't listening to as much r&b during the time this was big, but i heard it nearly any skate session i went to during that time
This song is fantastic ... and it's the genius play of the bass that always gets my attention. "Outstanding" would be my next suggestion.
Amber and Jay, getting their bop on, love it!!!! Uncle Charlie STILL sounds good!! BET's tribute to him was so good, y'all should check that out. RIP Robert and Ronnie Wilson
This is a classic. React to Humpin'
Shake would be a great choice for your next Gap Band reaction. I believe it was their first major hit.
Excellent choice of a complete great library. This bad ruled.
❤❤❤ So glad you got back to your hometown boys. Funk bands make some of the best ballads! This is one of my favorite songs by them, along with "Can't Get Over You" (which is mostly instrumental) and "Lonely Like Me" (funk with a little bit of country); those are both on the softer side for Jay. You would also like their collaborations with Stevie Wonder, "Ain't Gonna Stand for It" (Stevie's "country" song) and "Someday We'll All Be Free" (their song).
Former 303 representing here! This was high school for me!
Must be slow jam Monday. 😆 Quiet Storm.
They say trends repeat themselves. I hope a group of the many young talented people out there listen to this group and become inspired to create this style of singing , playing instruments, and lyrics about relationships.
This was the theme for our junior prom in '81! The Wilson Brothers never disappointed! They are part of the soundtrack of my life!
Dazz Band, "You Are My Starship" (2001).
This is a funkier, updated remake of the original Norman Connors song of the same name (1976), which is a beautiful song.
Here's some songs to check out: Gap Band feat. Stevie Wonder - Someday / Gil Scott-Heron - Whitey On The Moon / Artists United Against Apartheid - Sun City / Johnny Guitar Watson - I Don't Want To Be President / Marvin Gaye - You're The Man (Parts 1 & 2) / Isley Brothers - Fight The Power / Gladys Knight & The Pips - Mr. Welfare Man / Stop The Violence Movement - Self Destruction / Juju - Nia (Complete The Circle) / Curtis Mayfield - If There Is A Hell Below / Johnnie Taylor - I Am Somebody / Stevie Wonder - The Secret Life Of Plants
Classic soul at its finest
BIZZY & CO - " TAKE A CHANCE (Dance 1982) " Club Bangers that kept people Dancing Non Stop Jamming in the Nightclubs back in the Groovy days of the Amazing 80s Highly recommend
How about playing some Jimmy Ruffin-What becomes of the brokenhearted. Jimmy, was David Ruffin (The Temptations) older brother. Jimmy had a big hit with this song.
Oh, how I love this song! First The Stylistics and now this one?? You've hit 2 homeruns!
I remember seeing the GAP band back in the 70s. Leon Russell had them on his albums as well.
Still haven't done "I Don't Believe You Want to Get Up And Dance."
That's a long one, too!!
@@rhondaatkins1776 Yes...10 minutes (I'm thinking that's why Jay and Amber haven't reviewed that song yet.) But, am I wrong? Is that not the best Gap Band song EVER?
They have another one called "No Hiding Place." That one is a vibe.
I don’t know if you ever reacted to Shalamar. They had some great songs, Dead Giveaway, Dancing in the Sheets, The Second time Around. They’re worth looking in to.
