if he "Sowell" is such a treasure, why not sculpt his likeness up on that mountain top with the likes of those great white men!!!..he is so great, but never ran for any national office to help this great country - certainly his handlers could have bought and paid for him to be president, senator, mayor, dog-catcher?..yet, all he does is write books and does conservative tv interviews to become "rich"!

The very people Charlie Rose is protecting in this interview are the very people responsible for his downfall and career ruin. Love and truly respect Thomas Sowell! He is a national treasure. He is such a trooper to put up with Charlie's naivety and ignorance.
Only some of us see Charlie Rose as a threat. Mr Sowell does not. This is just a debate, and these so called tough questions wound up to be pitches lobbed over the plate.
If Rose's public statement is anything, he is responsible for his own downfall.
I'm a white cop in his sixties. I just realized I've been reading Dr. Sowell for about twenty years now. I now follow him on social media. If I could have had a second father it would be this man. I can't understand why he is not required reading in middle and high school. I don't understand why our black Americans haven't embraced him like MLK and others. It gauls me that the same community puts Obama on a pedestal and he is one of the annointed elites that Dr. Sowell warns us about. I always ask my black officers about Thomas Sowell and most have ever heard of him. It truly is a shame. And yes, he would make a better person to run the department of education than anyone else I can think of.
There is a very clear reason you never heard of him. He is not part of the herd so his opinions are silenced, at least until the Internet became a beacon for free speech.
They have not "embraced" MLK, and who can even name the others? The reality is that, if you can separate it from the religious element, King's basic premise was the I Have a Dream -- Content of Their Character idea. Where exactly is that practiced? Almost no Americans, or anyone else, know anything about the man except that he got shot and something about buses. No one reads his speeches. No one reads what he wrote. He is an emotional element in American culture and has been since the 80s. At my university in the middle 80s, not twenty years after he was murdered, the student organization publishing flyers for MLK Day couldn't even quote "I have a dream" correctly.
If few actually get the King message, and if most Americans are anti-intellectual, there is no reason to expect them to even know who Thomas Sowell is.

Each time I’ve seen Mr. Sowell speak, I can only respect him… not only for his intellect, but also his integrity.

Diversity is not, as Rose believes, a virtue. To answer Rose, I totally regret Affirmative Action and the ensuing entitlements, and the damage it's done to black families and racial progress. LBJ was the worst president in history and his 'great society' a total disaster for the country.

Isn't it brilliant how, in this interview, Charlie Rose, the White liberal, takes it upon himself to not only talk over Dr. Sowell, thereby preventing Dr. Sowell from answering with any sophistication, but Rose also assumes it is his duty to correct Dr. Sowell on his own life experiences and help Dr. Sowell see the CORRECT perspective on the issues of Affirmative Action and racial justice. Rose is one of the 'anointed', so he has to argue against the books premise. As you see, Rose has a number of assumptions clouding his opinion that are simply not true. He assumes Clarence Thomas benefited from AA and Sowell points out that he matriculated before AA took effect. Rose lives in a bubble, only hearing noises that agree with his world view. Sowell does the research into reality and publishes his findings. Big difference between them if you will notice...and Sowell would point out that Rose and the Anointed pay absolutely no price for being disastrously wrong.

He was on the show to discuss a heavily researched book that described the negative impact on society by intellectuals who are detached from the real world. Watching Charlie Rose, the Derek Zoolander of the chattering class, interview Sowell is like watching that show where Phil Donahue is interviewing Ayn Rand in front of an audience of sycophantic housewives. Phil was a stupid hot mess and Rand was wondering what the hell she was to say to a vapid tool like him. Rose’s questions are as insightful as “ did you know that Hod spelled backwards is dog?”

When they are talking about Justice Thomas and affirmative action, I have a black friend who hates AA for the same reason. My friend became a federal prosecutor on his own merits, yet sees total idiots that can't do the job who have been elevated to where he is. Their interviews were deep dives into the subject at hand, allowing the guest to explore all facets of their subject.

This is from 1995, after Sowell's book 'The Vision of the Anointed' was published. The consequences of diversification of test and eligibility standards by lowering them is the crux of the issue, the advancement, empowerment and enshrinement of mediocrity over merit.

There aren't many people in whom I have immense respect. Vin Scully, Jack Nichlaus, and John Wooden come to mind right away. Bill Russell and Thomas Sowell are a couple of others. Black Americans who are Americans first. Both are or were brilliant, humble, hard-working, and excellent examples of achievement. They conducted themselves with grace, dignity, and confidence.
Mr. Sowell is a national treasure and still going strong at age 94. Live long and prosper.

I wonder if Charlie Rose has ever thought back to this interview,, and realize his ideas he is stating have now turned into this disaster that we now see all around us, that's looking a color above all else??? I bet he regrets having that mindset!!! I respect Charlie, but so many looked to him for sound thinking,, and in this ,, he was sooo verywrong!!! It's OK to ask questions of the people you are interviewing,,,,,,, but you have to also listen to thier replies, instead of constantly interrupting!!! He played a big part in getting us to this crazy place we now find ourselves in , in 2024. This was painful to watch😢😢😢😢😢

@@France2107 He's no idiot, but in this and similar issues he had very naive assumptions and it has to be born in mind that he was on PBS. Charlie shines when it comes to artists. His interview with David Lynch is among the best, for instance.

It surprise me how sharp Mr Sowell's mind is at any age, he remains the same even in recent interviews with almost 100 years old, his knowledge is invaluable for our society
I think that it was rather ignorant of Rose to interrupt Sowell every time Sowell was making a point. When Rose didn't like the point he change the subject. Rose is a typical liberal saying they want debate but talking over any differing opinions.
Dr.Sowell has repeatedly offered words of wisdom to deaf ears for a very long time. We will, I hope one day embrace the common sense philosophies that he espouses.
Nothing drags down a conversation as fast as throwing out "you're a conspiracy theorist", does it?

Instead of letting Thomas Sowell speak and answer the questions, Charlie Rose insists on showing that he's the smartest person in the room.
It's a common pathology committed by interviewers and students that demonstrates to me their insecurities.
The level of reassurance that comes with a lifetime of commitment to learning the truth and then finding an older gentleman who speaks it and understands it better than you do is refreshing. We live among an establishment of ignorance, driven by arrogance and which never questions its own presuppositions. I have reccomened Dr Sowwell to countless people.

In 2016, the newly elected liberal Democrat Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, used Louisiana's prison population to focus on his soft on crime agenda and reform Louisiana's criminal justice system. This was done in spite of Louisiana have the highest murder rate in the US, mostly because of the murder problem in Louisiana's Democrat-cities. The Governor also granted early release for 1,700 criminals.
It was a crisis that had been solved but Democrats and the media used the crisis to pass their agenda.
There has been little or no follow up after Louisiana's criminal justice reform and prison releases to determine their impact on public safety However, crime isa problem, especially in Louisiana's Democrat-run cities, that have among the highest murder rates in the country. Democrats and their allies in the press seem never seem to pay no price for misleading the voters in passing their soft on crime agenda.
