    Thank you for your video. I was on the fence as to what coating to use on my low profile garage roof. Silicone for sure.

    Generally accurate content, products are used for different reasons, acrylic is great for protecting cap sheet roofs at a low cost, also, acrylics form a base for future silicone applications, in areas of high condensate silicone should be used as acrylics and cause rotting of cap sheet such as near oceans, silicone adhesion is more limited than acrylic, high grade acrylics do not caulk not sure why so much dialogue on "caulking" as that was an old problem not with new high grade acrylics. Silicone roller app while easiest also requires more product at mils will differ greatly. Also, many brands of silicone only a few are truly excellent. Fabric plays a key roll in roof upgrades and should be considered.

    What about using a Henry’s acrylic coating to use as a primer for the Henry’s Tropi- Cool silicone on a flat roof that sure is a torch down?

      look down in the comments because this question was addressed. Basically not a good idea because the silicone may not adhere to acrylic.

    Now that I have previously applied silicone roof coating to my Class A motorhome Will Acrylic bond adequately to the silicone and hold up to walking on? It doesn’t seem to bond well like the other comment mentions

      You should always try to use like-kind material when applying a re-coat.
      So, if you previously used acrylic coating we would suggest using that again. If you used silicone previously, it would be best to use that again as well. Hope that helps!

      @colonyroofers4604  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there! It's always best to use like-kind materials when re-coating a previously coated roof. Acrylic and silicone don't mix well, and due to the nature of acrylic being a sacrificial material, it can be hard to get silicone to properly adhere.

  • @DAGG2
    @DAGG2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    After applying silicone coating you will have to replace the roof. Nothing sticks to silicone not even silicone. No permanent repairs can be made to the roof. This is the way manufacturers get you to replace your roof. Sooner than later. So after paying the higher price for silicone. You will have the cost of a reroof to look forward to. In the near future.

      Hey there! Thanks for your comment. When it comes to coatings, it's all in the applicator's experience and knowledge. If someone doesn't apply to product properly, it can definitely create problems!!

      Silicone can stick to silicone, but the products need to be compatible on a molecular level in order for them to adhere to one another. It's important to try and use the same products and formulations whenever possible

    • @rickhearn

      its not 'paint', but a different type of coating. I have seen it offered in other colors than white, but it isn't common because the reflectivity is reduced.

    silicone is fine if you want to do small areas like filling cracks, anything other than that its a terrible waste of time and money, especially for asphalt shingle roofs.

    • @J.Deseth
      @J.Deseth 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Ron_Masterjohn Sure, that would be fine. As I said, in small areas. Also you may want to check into some gutter guards, they are pretty cheap (roughly $2 for a 3ft section) I put them on only over the downspouts and they have saved me from leaves and needles clogging up my drain.

    PLEASE never apply silicone on sloped metal roofs , a death trap to walk on when wet and you have to clean it to make repairs or recoat in the future. Acrylics are number #1 choice when done right on metal roofs . We only use silicone for a topcoat on flat roofs with a polyurethane basecoat under it.
