  • “Tornerai” was written by Nino Rastelli and Dino Olivieri in 1936, and it has been translated into many other languages, most notably into French with the title, “J’attendrai.” Pianist and arranger Olivieri was the musical director of the Italian branch of the record label, His Master’s Voice, in the 1930s-40s. This song was inspired by the humming chorus (“il coro a bocca chiusa”) in Puccini’s opera, “Madame Butterfly.” Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli, and Bing Crosby, among others, made recordings of this song, which during World War II came to represent waiting for a return to peace and liberation.

Thanks so much Stephanie and Paolo for your wonderful arrangements! Listening to them always puts a smile on my face. If I may make a suggestion why not look into working up an arrangement of Zez Confrey's Coaxing the Piano. With its snappy tempo and intricate styling I am sure you will like it. Thanks again for all you do.

Having recently found you on youtube I've just realised you put out new material on Sunday's. How wonderful, I will look forward with eagerness to your performances. The pair of you frankly, are quite remarkable as proven sublimely today. The world is indeed fortunate to have people of your calibre perform for us. Thank you so much again from a Scottish listener.

What lovely variations on j’attendrai you composed, and played! The gentleness on the high register during the second half of the first minute, together with your ‘accent’ on the base notes were so perfectly in harmony, Stephanie, with the beautiful chords that Paolo was playing! The whole tune was so moving! Thank you!!
