    This show was recorded at the Worcester Centrum in Worcester, MA in 1983. I was at it. One of the best concerts of my life.. Kinda strange knowing it is me and my buddies cheering in this recording. "Born Again" ruled. "Disturbing the Priest" is imo the best vocal performance ever recorded.

    Saw this tour at the Spectrum in Philly. Quiet Riot was the support. Lots of Sabbath fans disliked "Born Again", but my friends and I loved it! I went with my "ride or die" brother... Harry E. His Pop was cool and would drive us over to Philly (we lived in South Jersey) to see shows and then swing by and pick us up. I was a Junior in High School and Harry was Sophomore (so we didn't drive yet). Ian Gillan provided THE spookiest version of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" I have ever heard! I believe "Paranoid" was the final encore, but Tonny Iommi walked out on to the stage... raised his hand... smiled and played the opening riff from "Smoke on the Water". The place went nuts!! Thanx for this!

    • @JohnnyangelNIU
      @JohnnyangelNIU 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree - and many people don’t know this but Geoff Nicholls - the lake great Geoff Nicholls - was on keyboards/organ in the band during this tour (and for 25 years of the bands tenure). He could’ve easily replicated Jon Lords organ parts, or even done his own rendition - but I’m thinking that conversation had to come up during rehearsals, and Tony and geezer probably just wanted it more in the vein of Sabbath and more ‘guitar heavy’ is my only guess. I’ve always wondered this too, though.

    It's great they did one of Ian Gillans old songs on the Born Again tour. I also kind of wish that at least once during the three different periods that Dio was in Black Sabbath (and the 3rd time he was in the band when they called themselves "Heaven & Hell." That the band would play at least a couple of Dios solo songs, I would just like to hear what those songs sounded like with Iommi playing them. I think the songs would be way heavier sounding with Iommi doing them live, than they did with Dio's bands guitarists: Campell, Goldie, Aldritch, etc...ever could. I saw Black Sabbath on their Cross Purposes 1994 tour at the state theater in Detroit, MI. with the Iommi-Butler-Martin-Rodinelli line-up, and it was by far the loudest concert I've ever been to, I could barely hear anything for about 3 days afterward. I saw the band again in 2006 with the Iommi-Butler-Dio-Appice line-up at the John Labatt arena in London, Ontario Canada. Unfortunately this time they played in a huge hockey arena, so the sound wasn't nearly as loud, I was on the opposite end of the building from the stage too so that didn't help.
    The other song I would have liked to hear done live, with either Dio or Ian Gillan singing was the Wizard. I can't believe Dio especially never sang that song live with them. When they did that song live with Tony Martin singing it sounded fantastic, 100 times better than Ozzy could ever have sang it even in his earlier years.

    the biggest difference is, that Blackmore plays this song with his fingertips, while Iommi plays it power chords - that´s the reason why it sounds heavier

      Well Freddy the biggest difference is a stratocaster has single coil pickups that sound thin and shrill, and the Gibson SG has humbuckers that sound full and thick and warm. Just like Angus plays the SG. But thanks for playing. And power chords are usually two strings played with fingertips. I think you meant barre chords.

    Well if I remember correctly, the recorded song has keyboards playing the rhythm, which helped to fill out the
    sound...
    I don't hear a keyboard here...
    Still sounds thick as hell...

      Don't forget Geezer's ability to fill every void in the song with his bass! Not dissing Glover but Geezer can simply be the foundation for a skyscraper in terms of being the foundation of a song, unlike Geezer who elects to play more technically and essentially be just another instrument in the sound palette.

      Always wondered that myself too, James. Geoff Nicholls was their keyboardist/organist on this tour (and was with the band 1979-2004), and while his keyboards are on other songs throughout this live tour/show, I didn't hear them either. My only guess is that it was voted (probably by Tony/Geezer) that they remain very faint or even non-existent while they did this song in a more guitar-driven, Sabbathy way.
