It was 1977 when I heard them for the 1st time and I still feel like the first time. The chemistry is great. The 5 guys know each other, understand each other, complete each other. This band is fabulous.
1974, I’m standing at the school bus stop with my best friend. I’m 8 years old. My best friend’s big sister Tracy is there too, sunlight streaming through her hair, lip gloss gleaming...she carries a portable 8 Track player with Deep Purple’s Machine Head jammed into it, Smoke on the Water begins to play and Tracy begins to sway. I am transfixed. I wanted to be that cool. I wanted to be as absolutely, unbelievably cool as thirteen (possibly 14) year old Tracy was right then. Her high school books, (our small town had a high school that included middle school grades) her Pee-Chee, her friggin’ portable 8 Track player and that swaying to the most rockin’ music ever...I became a Deep Purple lover at that very moment and have been since. Bad Ass.
That's an awesome story @Kim Strain. I love Deep Purple too, got to see them live in Florida in the 80's after Perfect Strangers came out. I think we all experienced something like your bus stop story when we were young, often resulting in a lifelong love for a band or type of music or other art form. I remember a family vacation spent at my Uncle Frank's place in the 70's in upstate New York. He was a rocker, played guitar in bands and had tons of rock albums, and one day he played Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I was completely blown away and set out to collect every album they ever made. To this day I remember that vacation and how it influenced my love of music in general and rock in particular. Cherished memories that stay with you forever. Thank you for sharing yours :)

In those days we were conscripts to fight communist financed terrorists. We were under the impression that the USSR would not allow this kind of music. I àm surprised to hear you good people could actually listen.....and that is great. I'm 66 now and probably listen to this song at least once every two weeks. My favourite rock band and of course Pink Floyd. I really wish I had the money, oppurtunity and there were no politics or religous problems standing in the way so that I could visit all the "....stans". Your countries and the areas on the eastern (?) side of the Ural mountains must be the most beautiful places in the world. South Africa.
Only now I noticed how utterly relaxed Gillan is all through the song. He does the announcement, then sort a lays back and grooves for five minutes, sings a couple of verses where he doesn't even get the lyrics exactly right and then gets right back to grooving. That's a front man for you. No drama, no ego, just chilling out and doing his thing (and how well he does it here). Amazeballs.
This was their best lineup all at peak form they were right there with any band Five outstanding musicians so tight you can feel this music in your bones. They don’t make them like this anymore.
This Ian Paice Fellow is an Absolute Beast Behind the drum kit. His movements are extremely and naturally gifted. It is ridiculous actually, as he moves around the Drum Kit with such Ease it's not even funny! As a drummer of more then 40 years, myself as well as others drummers will attest to that same statement. Guys like this simply do not come along very often. He fits in there right between John Bohnam and Keith Moon, but he's a lefty. He needs to be acknowledged more then he has historically and that's all there is to it!
Saw Deep Purple in Cardiff University in 1970, half way through the set the power went off. It was pitch black, you could only hear Ian Paice carrying on. When the power was restored he brought the house down. The song was “Child in Time.”
In the 1990 I saw special drum show featuring Ian Paice. Cozy Powell, and Carl Palmer with Jon Lord on organ. It was tough to watch. In comparison his drumset sounded awful, his timing was off at times, he was the least nuanced and sophisticated player and he even wasn‘t the loudest drummer, although he hit it like always. But fu%! that. Ian is still my no. 1 idol as a drummer for his great work with Purple, where he fitted in perfectly. 😎🤘
He's certainly in a class all by himself! The band was having a hard go of it in Pittsburgh one evening, Gillan was struggling with a sore throat, the openers that night had the sound an absolute mess, & if it could go 'wrong' it did... Then after 1 song, Jon, playing very softly with one hand, waved to the band "Come here" & they did. They seemed to 'huddle' like football players, and after maybe 20 seconds or so, (I have no clue what was said??) these guys were having a huge laugh on stage, & they actually started the show over. It 'seemed' like these guys, veteran rockers by this point, were so "into it", happy up there, having fun as they absolutely killed it from then all the way through the encores. Magical night, one of my top concert memories ever, & Mr. Lord said or did something that night to get his buddies back to "who they were & what they did" as well as any band I have ever experienced... in a matter of seconds, pure genius!

I’ve no time for music made for money or games consoles, but have zero contempt for those who appreciate gaming. And are you really patting boomers on the back for creating the environmental movement; please, the eco system is on it’s knees; you haven’t accomplished shit. We out here battling with extinction rebellion to save the next generations. Nice try tho.
@@brumuli Your language is about wealth and class, so bands like deep purple and counter-culture never represents your values. I’ve no doubt Tristan, that you would consider me “poor”, but I’m rich in loved-ones, community and accomplishments. I stand by my original statement, and you’re welcome to disagree; however the younger generation who have little opportunity to pursue meaningful careers and purchase property are facing economic, societal and environmental disaster; something your generation has done nothing but accelerate.
@@Swampberry There is no greater trouble when ignorance is coupled with perseverance, poor boy.
Everyone of them individually masters of their instrument .
2022 and they still have a place in my rock n roll heart...they don't do bands like this anymore....
that’s half a century ago and it is still cracking at the top of my stereo. real music lives forever
Deep Purple was like a force of nature.
How great it is to have this footage of them in their prime!
Damn I miss the 70s
This is still the greatest piece of blues rock ever recorded.
One Of My Favorite Songs Ever!
I love how the bass and guitar mesh so well at the end. Fabulous musicianship.
How on earth did I miss this in 1972? This is absolutely fabulous. The band is cooking with gas!
Demonrats and the climate cultists are going to outlaw cooking with gas, ya know.
Song opens with a six minute solo. Legendary
What I love is that they all seem to be actually having a good time up there.
Machine head was an album that every song was a hit. One of the best bands of all time. Amazing musicians that know how to play together. The best.
One of Ritchie's best guitar performances. Nuance, subtlety and you can clearly see how comfortable he is on guitar.
It was 1977 when I heard them for the 1st time and I still feel like the first time.
The chemistry is great. The 5 guys know each other, understand each other, complete each other. This band is fabulous.

Deep Purple, one of the greatest bands, "Lazy", one of their greatest songs.
Deep Purple wymiatają wszystkich.

Her high school books, (our small town had a high school that included middle school grades) her Pee-Chee, her friggin’ portable 8 Track player and that swaying to the most rockin’
music ever...I became a Deep Purple lover at that very moment and have been since.
Thank you for sharing yours :)
way to go Tracy.
zenmaster356 thank you for that...and your memory too. I think something that stirs a poignancy in us should be shared.
That is some great storytelling. Are you a writer? That was good!
Beutifull whiten, I understand your feelings :-)
50 years later, there is still no rock band that can match this grooviness.
Led Zeppelin? Black Sabbath?
@@rodrigos.thiago6224 While Zeppelin and Sabbath are extremely groovy, they have a completely different groove Deep Purple. I love all three bands. All three are unmatched by nowadays bands.
Yes there is. Check out this song done by Jimmy Barnes with Joe Bonamassa.
groovy yet not sluggish. i can still feel the pattern.
I agree!
2024 deep purple, Led Zeppelin and the Moody Blues the best music we’ll ever hear in our lifetime
No pink Floyd the doors or the beatles in that legend of a list
Seen this song done so many times from blackmore , bolin, morse and quite a few covers but come back to this one to show others why i traveled and have seen the purps "all Marks" 43 times in concert and done many meet and greets ,, this is so raw and cutting edge heavy rock why i still love and follow the band to this day remember its about change ,exploring ,re -inventing your self and moving upward and onward
Thank you, my friend,👍
That was a mouth full 🤩
Deep Purple
Yes, it was a very creative period in England, 1968-1978.
Blackmore has complete mastery over the instrument. The best player of his day by a mile
Anyone watching this in 2024?
Nah, sorry, but I’m still in 1972. Toss me a rope if you don’t mind.
just got reminded why i am stuck in the 60s and 70s rock era
Yep!
Yeppers - I am. 65 years "of age" and will still be listening to kick-azz 1970's Rock when they scatter my ashes.
Old-Skool Classic Rock Rulezz !!!
What a incredible sound! No more bands like this anymore😭...
This is why back in the day you knew every band member and how talent they are
They will forever be the legends of rock! Incredible stuff!
One of my All Time Favorite Groups but the first time I ever heard this Live Version and All I Can Say is WOW!
Amazeballs.
The living image of laziness... :=)
Ego still was to be invented in those days.
Watching it in 2024. Luv it. 😎🎼
Iconic band, and iconic song. Ritchie Blackmore is quite at another level.
Half a century goes by and I still love deep purple!

This was their best lineup all at peak form they were right there with any band Five outstanding musicians so tight you can feel this music in your bones. They don’t make them like this anymore.

I love you Deep Purple ..Thanks for keeping me sane 😂💜🤟💜2023

Us lefties have the advantage behind the skins.
Ringo hmm he was a lefty.
Jon Lord: the best keyboardist ever!
Certainly in the top five.
Hard to pick one.
Rick Wakeman was a great one.
@@everetttauscher8377Keith Emerson Uber alles
Bernie Worrell for me, but Jon is right there too.
One of the best perfomances of all time, truly amazing.
1972: This song is awesome.
2022: This song is still awesome.
2024 the best. God's of rock and roll out there so good
