I remember back in the day, the ONLY way to watch these videos, was on Danny's website. He had them posted and I remember being in AWE of them, in this tiny little QuickTime window on my PC. I downloaded them and would show them to all my drummer friends. The resolution and sound was garbage, but we would just watch them over and over and have our brains melt when we thought we knew he was doing, but to see it, broke all our brains.
One TOOL song to rule them all. Absolutely astounding to this day. The last 100 seconds or so are mindmelting. Danny Carey is the best argument I know for the theory that aliens are already among us.🤘

The Grudge is one of my single favourite Tool tracks. The drumming is stunning and the whole track is awesome. So great to see this and to hear you talking about looking further into it. Love your videos.
Danny is great. One of the most musical drummers out there. In terms of raw speed and crazy memorization of short polyrhythms, there’s certainly other metal and prog drummers out there pushing those boundaries. But in terms of creating great sounding songs with interesting time signatures and not overplaying the song, he’s definitely up there in the GOAT discussion.
Yes well said. I think Carter Beauford is up there too. Damon Che of Don Caballero can be extremely creative and awesome. Josh Freese comes to mind as well.

I was also there, row 12 right in front of the stage. We (me and my wife) saw them in Stockholm the year before as well but didnt have as good tickets as this year. This show was spectalular, i was almost numb and a bit dizzy when we went back to the hotel. ❤
I've seen footage of him making a mistake. Charlotte, North Carolina 1-26-16, he made a massive mistake on Vicarious. It was so glaring that Maynard said, "What the fuck is going on?!" Danny dropped out for half a measure and slid back into time.

I seen this in Melbourne in 2002. Absolutely mind blowing. This dude is a natural heavyweight. 6’5/6’6 probably 115kgs dry. I’d say he hits harder than most drummers, absolute powerhouse and creative and precise as fuck!
whoever didn't see them live may not believe that Chocolate Chip Trip could be the most epic performance they know from TOOL. i listened Fear Inoculum hundreds of times and never ever thought that track could be the most memorable thing from the concert.. My husband says this song is the most Tool sounding Tool song; I can't decide. But this song is still immaculate live today. I've seen them 7 times in the last 4 years and this one has been on the set list more than not. An absolute banger. Also, Invincible is a masterpiece.
Is that the slickest ever snare disengagement at 5:50 on your video clock? You can see him move his left knee out about 5 seconds before to prepare for it! Tasty....
From my humble analysis, it is not a swiss army triplet in the purest sense, because it is a beat in 5 that goes Left - Flam - Right - Flam - Left, then played again starting with the right, so the whole thing is in 10. And it starts on a flam, so it's slightly shifted. But it's like a swiss army triplet that comes back to it's starting hand :)
The Grudge is possibly/probably my favourite Tool song. Of course I am biased but I would argue with anybody to show me a better drummer. Of course, 'better' and 'best' when it comes to drumming is subjective. But I have never seen anyone do what Danny does. Chops, Independence, you name it...I think Danny is way above everybody else! Just my opinion, of course! :)

It just blows me away to hear a sixty two year old guy say " if I am not in shape and warmed up, this super physical, ultra complex fourteen minute marathon beat storm of a song, played with a power that will make your eyes bleed... It's a Swiss Triplet but he's adding doubles and triplets after the Flam. I'm not sure what the drum sheets say. He purposely changes it up at different shows.

You need to listen to the actual studio audio. This is one of the greatest songs ever written and one of the greatest vocal and drumming performances ever. Rumor has it this may have been Edvard Munch’s inspiration for his most famous painting. That may or may not be true.😜
