People who say their music has no soul or that they are too techniqal don't understand the music well enough. Because they obviously have no idea what they're talking about. This is art as its best! I'm still waiting for Culture Clash, Desert Tornado, Ohhhn Noooo, Louisville Stomp and Blues Fuckers live from their DVD. They're all so incredible and mind-blowing to watch! ♥

First time a drummer friend of mine played me Aristocrats, I was almost pissed, who are these guys that I never heard of that were smoking my musical heroes :D, and then I was hooked. All it took was one song.

Hi Andrew, remembering what Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) said about Marco when he applied to replace Mike Portnoy after his departure in 2010. He was amazed by the level of musical joy they were having and couldn't help but smile while playing with Marco. I think this is exactly what we are experiencing with the Aristocrats.

Marco is on a whole new level. Every limb is in business for itself. His control to play polyrhythms is unbelievable. All about the practice!!

Beautiful, virtuosity and live = art. They are speaking to each other and to the audience at the highest level via their instruments. Spectacular.

I think their music has melodies, technical stuff, nice groove and good amount of humor, and their improvisation is so fun to watch. I enjoy this a lot.

Flatlands form the same concert has a lot of soul, but yeah for me the Aristocrats are more of a brain thing. They tickle my brain just the right way, which is rare enough.

You’re way behind the ball on these guys dude. They’ve been making great music for over a decade now. Guthrie is the guitarist other guitarist talk about.

  • @emjem99
    @emjem99 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Guthrie made me cry on Drive Home (Steven Wilson). Marco is just amazing and Bryan's bass sound is soooooo smooth. As for the "too technical" folk, wtf? Go listen to some C&W if you don't want to hear amazing musicians at the peak of their art.

The theme is originally borrowed from the Norwegian composer Edvard Griegs "Hall of the mountain king"

Hey Andrew! The song "I want a parrot" from this same DVD has some really interesting and beautiful chordal choices. I'd love to see your opinion on it as it's often overlooked. It's written by Guthrie as well.

The BB Lull PJ is so sweet. Bryan B., Michael League (Snarky P.) and Misa (Band Maid), all have tremendous tone, and skill. As a bass player, these guys encourage me to do better. If I can do 0.0001% of what they do, I'll be happy!

Thanks for your credits to Bryan Beller. Great bass player indeed, but a great songwriter as well. He contributed "Aristoclub", "Muddling Through" an "This is not Scrotum" to the brand new "Duck" album. On this "BOING"-show, there was also a number called "Greasy Wheel", which was originally not written for the Aristocrats, but already in 2008 for a BB-solo album called "Thanks In Advance", I guess you might like it for a further reaction video, maybe comparing one version to the other. It's funky, it's catchy, somehow angular ...

I think, the people who are calling out a lack of soul in their music, haven’t heard them live. Because I know just by listening to Guthrie’s stuff, he’s very by the book on album and he lets it all go live.

If you get a chance to see them live, DO NOT pass it up. I drove to McKinney, TX from Tulsa in 2022 to see them, I recently went to McKinney last weekend to see them a second time and next month in August I will be driving to Kansas City to see them there.
It’s only until you understand the recorded material that you’ll realize just how much they’re improvising on stage and it’s absolutely mind blowing to experience their chemistry as a band.

"How do you get a better bass sound than that?" Start with a Mike Lull bass, probably a Pope onboard preamp, then stack 3 high efficiency cabinets with a separate amp head for each one?
That's the rig you put together AFTER you're successful enough to hire roadies 😂

Ran into you reacting to Aristocrats about an hour ago. Now just enjoying all your Aristocrats reactions, one after the other. It's so much fun seeing someone else have their skull peeled back by these monsters. It's gotta be sorta like catching the Miles Davis Quintet in 1959 - the best players on Earth making music that didn't even have a name yet.
I scrolled through your catalog of vids - didn't see any Fearless Flyers. Would love to see what you think of Nate Smith...and the rest of the band. Something like 'Running Man'...where you can't SEE Nate's foot, but you can hear it.
