I have to disagree on this one. I LOVE this album and I'll tell you why... When I was in college, many years ago, I lived I a large house that had been sectioned off to make small apartments. The people that lived in the other apartment, with only a door between us, would blast music and have parties all night. Apparently, the only record they owned was Aerosmith's Greatest Hits, which they played over and over and over... every day. So I brough my stereo and big amplifier from my parent's to my apartment and blasted this every time I left the house. After that, they finally stopped. Another reason I love this album is that I have fond memories of throwing it like a frisbee for my dog to catch. Good times. Last but not least, I finally used the vinyl to make a pick guard for my guitar. Works very well. So, you see, it's not totally without merit. You just have to be selective in what you do with it.
JEFF! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! YOU ARE A YOU-TUBE GOD!!! I love Metal Machine Music and I love that you chose to cover it just now. I'm leaving work in the next few minutes and I'm really looking forward to watching it on the train ride home. Just based on the fact you did this clip, I hit the like button.
I was in high school when this album came out. After reading reviews about it, I did not get a copy. In the 70s I saw SO many copies of this in used record stores. . .still didn't buy it. Until watching your video, I don't think I ever heard any of the album - so thanks for that! :) I know you'll be anticipating a 50th anniversary box set in a couple of years. . .I wonder what the bonus tracks will sound like. That was a fun video, thanks.
Not gonna lie, if I found this album out in the wild like at a thrift shop I'd be excited to buy it. My favorite Lou Reed album is Street Hassle. My favorite Velvet Underground album is all of them.
I used to own the 2-LP RCA album. I never listened to it all the way through as I was afraid it might bring on a seizure. I wish I still had it though just for the gatefold cover.
As an experimental or avante garde soundscape I think it's quite interesting. To release it to a public expecting songs though was perhaps a bit ill-advised or dishonest even. But I think a wall of droning feedback layered in different ways can be interesting. Just about everybody today knows that this was not a collection of songs so its a bit daft to judge it as such. Just saying.
Drone predates scale based music by several thousand years. If you listen to early Velvet Underground live stuff, they were experimenting with guitar noise even then. I dont think its supposed to be 4 different tracks, the format of the time dictated that.
Did he do it to knock out the album numbers requirement on a contract because he was to drug smashed to be creative?Glad i have never heard it and never will.
Haha, this is freaking awesome. I am a confirmed Lou Reed disrespecter and this turd of an album is all the ammo I need. What a narcissistic a-hole to foist this garbage on his fans. Cool track breakdown too! 😃Excellent video, Jeff, this is one I will be watching multiple times.
Hi Jeff!!! No, not a Lou Reed fan at all...... it reminds me the episode from Friends when Ross thought he was a musician and created "electronic music" on a small keyboard, LOL. cheers and be well
I had the chance to buy it on vinyl once ~ I passed. I had the chance to get the CD reissue ~ I passed. Even though it's a piece of shit. I still wish I had both.
Good Lord what a piece of crap! The irony is Lou Reed is the type of artist who would say that progressive rock is pompous and self indulgent but yet release this flaming turd. This was a great episode but honestly, you might have been too easy on him. I’m glad I saw this because if I was in a record store and saw a cheap, used copy of this, I probably would have bought it on a blind buy. My eyes are open now.

Haha! 😂 That is solid gold!
The apartment story is hilarious! 😂
@@larrymills9630 The stuff about the frisbee and the guitar, I just made up, but the apartment story is actually true.
I melted down the vinyl , and made a Mt. Rushmore replica out of it . Lying , of course
🤡
Sounds like pet sounds that’s incredible
Awesome brother.

Haha…I hope it doesn’t disappoint!
@@jeffwhitchervinyldestinati4486 it won't
Ty for this video it was incredible
Thank you bro1
This truly is a dumpster dive!!!!!! Lulu next???? Great video, brother!!!
Thanks brother! For anyone who thought Lulu was the worst thing Reed ever recorded.

Ha…I’m sure there are many interesting demos and outtakes from this album that could easily fill a deluxe box set.
I almost listened to it once. After a few minutes I called it quits.
I’ve never been able to tolerate more than a few seconds.
Good call with the Lou Reed -Andy Kaufman comparison. :)
Not gonna lie, if I found this album out in the wild like at a thrift shop I'd be excited to buy it. My favorite Lou Reed album is Street Hassle. My favorite Velvet Underground album is all of them.
Great review, love it.....
Thanks!
I remember being a kid and my dad telling me about this album
It’s legendary for all the wrong reasons!
I used to own the 2-LP RCA album. I never listened to it all the way through as I was afraid it might bring on a seizure. I wish I still had it though just for the gatefold cover.
The fourth track is my favorite.
It’s a great closing track!
Lou just never stopped surprising us. MMM did not destroy his career. Who else could get away with Hudson Wind Meditations and Lulu
He seemed to have nine lives as an artist.
Sounds like an MRI 😅 Love these Jeff
Thanks John!
Wow. That`s really bad. I agree with you. It belongs in a dumpster.
This is not just his worst album ever but probably one of the worst albums ever.
Absolutely! 👍👍

If I win your contest I may do a dumpster dive lol
I will be happy to!

I believe he still owed RCA a few albums? I blame the drugs.

Thank you for watching!
Right below Metal Machine Music , about a foot under more garbage is Mistrial
Hi Jeff!!! No, not a Lou Reed fan at all...... it reminds me the episode from Friends when Ross thought he was a musician and created "electronic music" on a small keyboard, LOL. cheers and be well
Haha! I’ve yet to hear from any Lou Reed fans in the comments. Cheers Cristian!
LP 2 na 3.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Man, I don't love Lou Reed on a good day. This is bad, this is really bad haha. You saying you'd rather hear Yoko is startling haha. Well done Jeff!
Thank you Sam! 😁
Lou Reed trying to be John Cale. Lou Reed is no John Cale.
Not even close!
Agreed.
I had the chance to buy it on vinyl once ~ I passed.
I had the chance to get the CD reissue ~ I passed.
Even though it's a piece of shit. I still wish I had both.
Probably worth a lot of money now.

Thanks Gary! I have never seen this in the record bins but even at $1 this record would be overpriced. A flaming turd is an accurate description.
Was never a fan of Reed, I did enjoy Busload of Faith and there I leave it. Good review Mr. Jeff
Thank you!
