I’ve just started really appreciating the music of The Band (and much of each of its members work with other bands and their solo projects) (though I’ve listened to and enjoyed a few of their songs for 30+ yrs). It’s interesting (in a bittersweet way) finding out Richard was the same age I am now when he died. Currently diggin’ his singing voice on 🎶Chest Fever🎶
Great video Jeff! I’ve always loved The Band, they have a sound unlike anyone else. Whispering Pines is a song that really highlights the pain in his singing voice and draws you in. Awesome!!
Hi Jeff! Richard Manuel.....one of rock's tragic figures. His decline started slow but it escalated....and well, we know the rest. Great video once again!
Thanks Jeff, this was great, as always. I must admit I did not know much about him and I appreciate the education. Keep 'em coming. GREAT SERIES THAT NEEDS MORE VIEWS! 👍
Hey Jeff. Awesome job on this. I've always been interested in the individual members of The Band. Fantastic clips that you put together, beautifully edited. Thanks for including Richard Manuel in your series. Well done!!!
I find Levon’s take on Richard’s suicide so interesting and so perfectly “Levon “. Honestly he’s totally right, how the hell can anyone understand what motivates another to take such a permanent solution to a temporary problem. I’m sure it comes like a lightning bolt and makes no sense and then you notice all the signs. For those who would never consider it no matter how bad it could get it’s impossible to understand.
It wasn't really a temporary problem, it was chronic, he had problems with alcohol from the time he was a teenager, later on he got into other stuff, hash, pot, some psychedelic's, but probably the most destructive was heroin, then he tried to kick that by shooting cocaine, which gave him the Dt's. So sad he was so talented, as they all were. They others had problems with drugs as well, however Levon, Richard and Rick did heroin, after Richard I think Rick was the most self destructive, which is sad, he is definitely one of my favorite singers and rock and roll starts.
Thank you Jeff Witcher ... this is a great video about a great man...

I love the Band and love the tunes Richard sings
He is one of my favorite singers of all time. The depth of emotion he brought to every song was heartbreaking.

Thank you! Poor Richard. One of the most distinctive, soulful and emotive voices in rock and roll.
Great video, was not aware of him or his story, tragic. Wonderful soulful voice
Thanks!

Thank you Rich! He seemed like such a gentle soul and had the most expressive voice. A sad end for sure.
