Check the fuse for the fuel pump first

Don't forget to check your key FOB! I went into the ocean with mine (yeah, I know) and an hour later car wouldn't crank, wouldn't stay started, and the horn started going off! Took me a while but finally thought of the FOB and completely corroded and wet on the inside. Sometimes it's something silly and stupid!

The mech a nic the Durangos are total badass even when having issues.
Would not trade mine for anything it's like new still, runs like a Champ... AND easier to work on than my Audi or VWs.. Dang Germans pack a car into the front and no room to work on it either.. LOL
My durango did the same thing and all it was is the battery terminals needed to be replaced. Wires were not quite touching the battery

The mech a nic ummm pretty sure I said replaced clearly not cleaned.
I have an 03 Durango ran into a Similar problem however it turned out that I simply needed to Hard reset the PCM, I like your videos though broman I will be watching more.. Keep up the awesome work!! BTW I found out HOW to Hard reset it AFTER I bought a new one.. The irony of auto mechanics.. :)
Yeah sometimes you learn the hard way lol glad you got it fixed
Just one thing for the PCM guys in case yours does not start, turn the key to ON not start just on then take negative terminal off let sit 30 seconds then turn key off and put terminal back on.. That's a hard reset BTW the dealer Refused to tell me HOW to do that I had to dig and hunt to find it. This is allot of the time the PCM issue.. Just a good old fashioned reset..

I had another durango here recently that it was a crank no start. It was fixed by disconnecting the battery terminals and touching the wires together for about a minute. After reconnecting the battery the car started right up and problems since then.
There's a solinoid in the trans mission that can ground out the pcm and give a no bus on the odometer , the cheap quick fix is to cut the 5v wire from the computer that goes to the transmission and y's off to a a/c sensor near the radiator, and that will allow the vehicle to run u just might have to manually shift the gears, happened on my kids 03 durango hoping to fix sensors soon he's cheap tho and don't wanna spend the money so who knows XD
I have a 1999 Dodge Durango 5.9 SLT and had a crank, no start condition and a check engine light. Slapped a code reader on it and the crankshaft position sensor was bad. $70 part and $70 labor.

The coil sit right by the manifold and when manifold leaks cases problems with wires and coils

Do you have power to the coil without cranking the engine seemed like it lit up as soon as you turned key over before the engine actually cranked?
Don't know if you keep up with these, im having same problem, replaced all plug's, Wire's, dist cap and rotar, coil pack. it seems to be getting fuel, i took off the breather to make sure it has air. still crank but no fire. Suggestions?
+Robert Easley check the crank/cam sensors. If one of those or both are bad I think they don't let the coils send spark.

We are not getting any power on either of the two wires on the bottom of the coil.
Replaced the coil, ecm crank position sensor and cap and rotor. Still not getting any power at the coil.
Any suggestions?

@@themechanic6117 put the starting fluid to it. No crank. Rain to day tomm ck fire ch coil first. Cheap. Have cs to.

Fuel pump for a 1998 Dodge Durango
I have a 99 dodge Durango, I was at work driving slow through the property. It turned off and turned it back on it done that twice on me, after I was done with what had to do. I went back to the our carpenter shop, that's when I noticed that the transmission was leaking fluid from the front. After that I decided to take it for a short drive and noticed that it was running a little sluggish, I went ahead and replace the front seal and after getting it back in and everything hooked up, now it doesn't want to fire up it cranks but doesn't start up, does anyone have an idea of what I have over looked

Thomas Garcia well just make sure air can get in,nothing obstructing air flow. How's your fuel pressure?
The mech a nic I don't have a fuel pressure gauge to check, I did take off the cap on the fuel pressure value and pushed in to see not very strong
Thomas Garcia it might be cheaper to take it to a shop than to buy tools n possibly keep throwing parts at it. First I'd double check all the work you did
You can also use starting fluid to see if it's firing

My 98 started acting stupid after cleaning throttle body would not start until I replace all plugs and iac valve then threw a code crank sensor signal but continued to start then died after a week and would start just crank and another code p0545 egt sensor bank one and im having hell trying to find the sensor but today it fired up I drive it home after messing with ignition distributor wire ifk what this truck is doing
Ceank sensor is on the back of motor block at the bell housing, right side behind transmission dip stick tube. It's a pain but sounds likely to be your problem.
Need some help i got a 1999 Durango 5.9 it just cranks and cranks then it starts up i put new fuel pump and a lots of the sensors fuel injectors battery good alternator goods and starter shows good
Sounds like it's cheaper to pay a shop to diagnose than to keep throwing parts at it...
I have a 2002 Durango...my issue started when I ran out of gasoline. I have about five gallons in it now but it still won't start. I was told the day I bought it to never let it run out of gas cause it will need a code to restart..how much is true and how and where do I get this code....help please!
Ive never heard of a car running out of gas needing a code to restart...
I know this is a old video but my husbands 2005 Durango stalled out and will not start again. He’s replaced the crank sensor, cam sensor, fuel pump and battery over the last month. Now it’s just dead it cranks but won’t start. Do you think it’s the ecm???
Did he check the fuse that feeds the fuel pump? Did he check for codes stored in the check engine light?
A bad ecm most likely will show "no bus" on the instrument panel odometer. Need to continue to diagnose.
Nic thanks for the video, I have a 5.9 Durango, same setup as your video. Both checks on the bottom side of the coil came back good but still not getting power on top of the coil between the distributor and coil using spark tester. I swapped a working coil from another truck still not spark top of the coil Battery is fully charged, any thoughts?
+chvydrptop check the fuel pump fuse, no power to fuel pump, no power to the coil.
Thanks, just tried a good fuel pump relay and a ASD relay still no spark from coil to distributor.
chvydrptop what about the fuse for the fuel pump? You check for fuel pressure?
No haven't checked the fuel pump pressure, I pulled the fuel pump fuse on a working 5.9 and connected my spark plug tester and got spark. I don't think the spark between the coil and distributor are connected. The fsm is very vague.

What is that part called that you checked in the end with cracks on it?
The ignition coil had cracks on it. Check your fuel pump fuse if you have no spark
My dodge Durango 2005 4.7 wont start it will crank but no turn over u think it's the fuel pump?? Or ignition coil??
Check the fuel pump fuse. They blow out and cause this problem

How do you know it wasn't the fuel pump?
+Tom Tomer yeah I should have showed the fuel pump. If the pump isn't working I believe there's no spark.
