TIP / HACK IDEA - If you want to use a fuel station / garage tyre inflator to seat your tubeless tyres but you don't have a Schrader to presta converter? You can take the dust cap off your presta valve cut the top 5mm off the dust cap then thread it onto the valve upside down using the newly made hole and it converts your valve from presta to schrader. Its a really handy tip if you don't have your own air compressor

Since youre hurt again heres an idea. Do a budget build useing used parts, new parts, or stuff from online. Preferably not from sponsors unless it fits into the theoretical budget (so no 5c frame or mission pro). It can be a hartail or a full sus. Both could be really cool. The idea is to bring back that botched together kinda feel that your old bikes had. I think it could be an amazing project and you have all the time in th e world now due to the injury, so i hope you give this some thought. Thanks for reading

I picked up an XCT Concept full sus 21 speed on a Facebook listing and rode out to get it from 20 miles down the road. Nice day, so I rode out on my workhorse Trek 3700 which has a custom chainstay trailer hitch on it with the intention of taking them both back on the train. When I got there, the owner was waiting for me with a two litre pitcher of lemonade - made from fresh lemons! She must've been pressing them all morning! So she left me to figure out how to get both bikes the two miles to the train station while she finished packing her house into a u-haul. I was still trying to figure it out after she left, then it hit me...
Thirty feet of paracord later, I'd tied the front wheel of the XCT to the chainstay, resting it on the hitch bar, and to the seat post, and the headtube to the pannier. The rear wheel of the XCT would be rolling on the road. I rode it back like that, a super bendy tandem. When I got back I wanted to do another forty miles!
...All the XCT needed was air in the tyres and the brakes and gears tweaking!

Tire bead seating and inflating tip: For stubborn tires, wrap a cargo ratchet strap around the circumference of the tire and snug it down. It forces the bead toward the rim wall, making inflation and seating easier (maybe even possible without a compressor or hack soda bottle inflater).

It may seem off topic, but I think many of us would really like to see a little bit of your video workflow process. You don't need to do a deep dive into your editing process, but just a good overall summary from shooting, organizing all the footage, overall edit process, and then particularly of interest to me, storage. You must have thousands of hours of raw and B footage from your videos. How do you store so much data? Cloud? RAID? Multiple hard drives? How are they organized so you can find that clip from a few years ago that you want to reference on a current video like you did here with the SoFla footage you put up? Again, not a deep dive. No need to give away trade secrets, but I do a lot of filming myself just for fun and for my own consumption and I'm starting to struggle with storing and organizing it all. I'm a big fan! I even ordered some SBH and Drama decals for my bike rack! :)

After a big snow or rain the trails are muddy and this will give you more confidence. I'm a downhiller at heart and don't usually use my seat but I'm sure many people would find this useful. Both u bolts snug to the ubolt bracket, it can secure the bike holder eliminating that movement as well.

Awesome idea for the garden sprayer!!!
Any idea how many YEARS I never knew what those hooks were for?!? Finally leaned to use those last year lol!
I use an old movers blanket for a tail gate cover. Got it for free and can be folded over. I'll check out this foam, though. That movers blanket is a mess when it gets wet and is bulky.
Great suggest on camera mounts! I have broken those plastic mounts by over tightening.
I keep a dollar bill in my bike bag. Fold up and tape over a torn tire. Wont get you real far, but may keep your tube in (you do carry a tube, right?) To get back to the truck.

  • @jsaintclair1
    @jsaintclair1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

One inch Gorilla tape is the by far the best rim tape for going tubeless: It really sticks to the rim, plugging all the spoke holes airtight; it's thicker than all the expensive dedicated rim tapes out there (and I've tried a few and they all leave air bubbles), and the hole you make for the valve will not enlarge under the pressure.
Two big tips: Buy a bottle of Schwalbe Easy Fit Tire Mounting Fluid, and use it not just on the tire bead (apply with a brush) but also under the rubber base of the valve to create a good seal between the rim tape and the valve. A real godsend!
Lastly, inject the sealant only through the valve and only after you're certain that you have an almost airtight tubeless setup. Your tire may become soft VERY slowly, overnight or over several hours, and the leaks (wherever they are) are so small that you can't hear air escaping from anywhere on the wheel. Only then should you fill the tire with the appropriate amount of sealant. Pump up the tire and ride around the block a few times. You'll then have a tire that will not lose air for weeks!

Seth (and every person ever that uses zip ties), there's an electrician's tool that are fondly referred to as "flushies" - meaning flush side cutters. There are a few brands but the brand I've been using for years is Hakko: Hakko Micro Wire Cutters. These eliminate the need for Xacto knives or box cutter blades to get your zip tie cuts nice and flush and not have those awful, pointy ends that just destroy your hands and legs. 5 bucks. And they come in multi packs. They're small enough to fit in a hip pouch or one of those"water bottle" tool kits if you ride with that. Just thought I would point you towards them because I know I hate getting cut by those zip tie ends. Happy riding and thanks for all of the years of great content!

@@coolhead123 You can pay a lot extra to buy Rema Tire Talc online, but regular unscented baby powder is cheap & available practically everywhere. I do the same as Eric B suggests, I put a tube in a bag & add the powder, then seal the bag & shake it. Actually, I keep the same bag handy with a bunch of powder inside, & use it multiple times. I also pour powder into the tire & spread it all around by rotating the tire while tapping on it to knock the powder around, this should be done outdoors to avoid a mess. If the other guys in the shop ever gave me any flak, I'd point out that my tires never go flat from folds in the tubes or misaligned valve stems. But really, I do use quite a lot, and you probably don't need to use as much as you'd think.

Like a lot of people . I rode a bike as a kid but eventually quit as I got to the age where motorized transportation became available to me. I bought a new bike just after my 40th birthday and soon found myself buying all the pieces of kit that comes with bicycle ownership . I assembled a tire patch kit with a frame mount pump . This kit contained 2 sets of tire levers . I had never seen or used them before but figured out immediately what the hooks were there for . Of course my mechanical aptitude is higher than the national average , by quite a bit I suspect. I was riding a rail trail on my first cruiser as an adult . Vandals had littered the trail with tacks to pop tires and it worked . My bike got a flat on the front and my friend popped both of his. We pushed the bikes to a nearby bench Ian I proceeded to patch the tires . While I was working on the tires other riders came by also pushing their own bikes . And many of them said something along the lines of "you can fix a tire, which bike shop do you work at?" I've gone into bike shops and seen big box brands of bikes waiting in the repair que for nothing more than a flat tire . When I was 9 years old I was riding back home from a nearby swimming hole and had a flat tire . I made it to the corner gas station . I peeked the tire off by hand and patched the tube with a foil sticker from a vending machine by the door and reinflated the tire . It held up to get me home and even a couple days longer. This was in 1979 when gas stations had air for free. The sticker was of Gene Simmons face . I've also heard of duct tape being used for this , but never actually seen it myself.

If your seat clamp or handlebar stem is slipping out of place and you have no assembly compound, you *do* have assembly compound. Rub a teensy amount of plain toothpaste onto the inside of the clamp surface and torque it down. Wipe off any squeeze-out, and you're done. It won't hurt carbon or aluminum. And your bike will be minty fresh!

hey seth, love your hack videos(: you can store an extra master chainlink in the bottem side of the pedros tire levers and secure them with a single layer of ducttape. it doesn't add any weight and the link is prodected from the elements. works for other small parts as well. i discovered that little hack when is was putting my "no-backpack-setup" togehter (:

I use high density foam for alot of projects however it is not abrasion resistant. It gets shreded easily. Duct tape however is fairly abrasion resistant so I tend to cover the foam in duct tape. For heavy protection I cover it in chunks of old mtb tires. I made a set of emergency knee pads this way. They lasted really well for several hours of heavy riding and took several fairly hard falls.

If your on city streets with your bike, I use reflective tape on my back pocket. Pull your back pocket in your shorts in-side-out and put a bit of reflective tape where cars can see it on the exposed pocket. If your hitting up happy hour with friends after work you can just tuck the pocket back in and your good.

One of the best ways I found with applying a tubless tyer is to pump it up as much as u can with a hand pump then to sit on it yes like a chair and that way it forces the tyer to hit the edges and then u can inflate the rest of your tyer hope I see this in a bike hack and hope it helped 👌🏾👍🏾👍🏾
