    Those T&B crimpers aren't actually meant for insulated connectors. They're meant for the non-insulated barrel butt connectors. They also will do that machine crimp on the brass connector you mentioned.

    After using ratcheting crimpers the others just make inferior crimps. When using the T&B type I have always dimpled the smooth side of the terminal but have no idea if that is correct. Whichever crimpers used the pull test is the most important thing. Great video, it blows my mind how many people are clueless about crimps, they seem to be used everywhere!

    It's important to insert the terminal from the correct side. The conductor wants to be on the side with the color dot.

    I think that one with the black/red handles is a Burndy. I've had one for twenty years and just love it for uninsulated terminals. My son-in-law arced the cutter on a live circuit and I wanted to cut his head off. LOL.
    re: crimpers' being set for the middle size wire. I've wondered about that, too, but notice that the smallest wire die is located on the tip of the tool, the heaviest closest to the tool fulcrum. When you crimp, you can feel the tool give a little, and it occurs to me that because of locations the leverage at the tool tip is less, which is to say the force is less for the same full cycle. I bet if you could put a strain gauge in each location, the crimps are all just about right. Apologies for being so pedantic.

    Holy mackerel, $80.00-$130.00. I got a set with the tool and four extra jaws and a Phillips screwdriver in a nice zippered container from Amazon for $28.00. It is very well made too.

      There is a difference in the machining of the dies sand the accuracy of the crimp. The pivot points are usually better and will hold up better on the name brand tools. That being said most ratchet style crimpers are far better than the stamped steel basic crimpers and are a perfect compromise for the average home use.

    The set I bought from harbor freight just won’t crimp correctly even when adjusted but the same style made in the same country as those from auto zone has yellow handles and work great and over double the cost

    The cheap regular crimper work fine if you're using non insulated terminals and heat shrink tube as an insulator like you should be doing. They suck if you use those garbage ferrules with the plastic insulator you use.

    8:00 On the back of the package of Gardner-Bender crimp connectors I just used the instruction was to press the "hump" on the side opposite the seam. (Not relevant for me, however. I used the Jensen style crimper.)

    If that can crimp an uninsulated spade , can it crimp molex pins?

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can only crimp uninsulated and Molex with specialty replacement dies that you have to order
