    I'm residential electrician for 15 years. Tired of working on houses. Want to do commercial work. Any thoughts?

      All good still here. Just life happens. Alot of work, family, house and adult things that take my time from making vids. What would you like to see in a future video?

      @@lmt9856 Glad, you're doing well, and thanks for the response, brotha. As far as video ideas go, I think a lot of people just want to know how to get into the profession, how hard it might be for the average person to learn the trade and the difference between unions jobs and none union jobs. I mention the union jobs because we're hearing about places like Starbucks and even Amazon workers are now starting to form unions and a lot of people don't really understand the role they play in worker safety and pay just to name a few. All the best keep up the good work.

    Most of the services i build are 300-400 amp i lovr building them its different Everytime in the way u have to lay it out any random guy can build a back to back 200 amp service but throw gutters and disconnects into it and it can turn into a puzzle and i love it!

    I’m living with my parents since moving out in California seems like suicide financially for me. But since I’m living pretty comfortably will a lay-off have a huge impact on me cause I’m fine with making 50k+ a year.

      JderungsFitness in general, in any interview, show them how you would be a benefit to them. There is always someone better. Why should they pick you? In this case, how would you help the union and contractors stay competitive?

    Are you expected to know the majority of electrical appliances, receptacles, outlet types, and NEC codes as a fresh Journeyman? I see people just look at a picture of a 14-50 and a 14-30 outlet and they could tell the difference. Is that like, the norm? I worry that I don't have a good enough memory to remember everything. I've always picked up math really quick and I really enjoy that, but I don't want a desk job as an engineer. I really like working on the job with my hands, but I worry I'm too mechanically *stupid* to be able to identify electrical things or troubleshoot problems. I really want to work commercial/residential rather than industrial. Would the IBEW force you to do all three?

      Ben Hammers you'll learn as you go, you'll know exactly what you need based off the room and its electrical need.

    I spoke with you in your past day in the life vids. The short of it, I got a spot as an apprentice and orientation is July 10 so I'm excited.
    I'm curious on what you take with you on a normal day. Extra clothes, what kind of food if you prep your own, most common site start times, best boot choices, coffee thermos, etc. Basically, after trial and error, what works for you now?
    Keep up the videos!

      Gabe 210 boots- whatever you like. I use Salomon quest 4g from REI. super light and super strong. only had 2 pairs my whole time. I've tried other boots like Redwing or whatever. it's just a brand. get what works for you to make your day better and more comfortable.
      jeans or carharts. whatever works for you. sleeved shirt. t shirt or Ben Davis or dickies. what works for you.
      tools- you get a tool list indicating what tools to get. those are the only tools you need to buy. everything else, the shop should get for you. I don't use the wooden rule so don't bother with that.
      I used to wear bags. in SF were given carts to work off. so a box works cause you can close them. safe from other trades. I currently went back to tool belt and bags. it works best for me. I've tried the electrician coveralls but too hot for me. it's a career. be professional when you get to the job. not too baggy or skinny jeans. you know "normal". as far as food, I buy my lunch. it's SF. you have a lot of places to eat and snack within a few doors over. it does get expensive so more people prep. it's cheaper and faster if you prep but I'm lazy. 😁 I encourage to go your first day normal. No expectations and you will see.

    you're videos are so informative man thank you! I'm going July 5th to apply to be an apprentice but ima bit nervous for the aptitude test. can you give me more emphasis do i need to score a 100% ? how long does the process normally take for them to dispatch me? I would really appreciate it if you answer thank you

    • @lmt9856
      @lmt9856  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ricardo Camacho now that the word is out, you need to score high. they go in order. highest to lowest. try and try again. I did it twice.

    • @lmt9856
      @lmt9856  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ricardo Camacho I also recommend go positively into anything you do. By you saying "idk", you are only causing yourself to second guess yourself and already creating a mental block. it's psychological.
