Beaver with RABIES attacks my boat!

- Went out to Burke Lake in Fairfax Virginia to get on some fall time bass and ended up running into a beaver that VGDIF furbearer biologists believed to have rabies. An Officer was sent out to the lake in order to dispatch the animal, but it unfortunately couldn't be located. VGDIF stated that the beaver will die in the next few days.
The fall bite has been good this fall with bass stacking up on points and ambushing bait! Be sure to comment, like, and subscribe for more videos!
My momma always told me that I shouldn’t spend my days chasing beaver because I could accidentally get a disease. I didn’t realize she meant rabies.

You've gotta contact the health department my guy. Wild animals don't act like that, they'd likely want you to kill it and bring it to them.

boy oh boy when you see an animal, any animal acting abnomaly , either aggressively or one that seems unafraid of humans, when they are normally aloof or shy away from human contact,, avoid it. it is most likely rabid.

Most beavers become that way one week out of the month. Best is to avoid but if you can't then a warm blanket and chocolate usually works

I read a story years ago about a drunk guy in Belarus getting killed by a beaver he decided to pick up. That Belarusian guy was asking for it, but I never would have predicted them going after guys in boats.
That's good fishing even if they are little ones. That beaver definitely needs to be taken care of , that would not be good if you were in a kayak.

That's pretty intense. I'm out there on Burke Lake with my 4yo son frequently. I've only heard stories of beavers being aggressive like that. That's awesome that you caught it on video.

Ive had a beaver do that to me at night in pitch black, no moon. Just slapping the tail right next to the boat, sounding like a bowling bowl hitting the water.

If you find a beaver who keeps charging you like that it definitely has rabies! You should immediately kill it if you have the means to. I know of a guy who got attacked in the water while he was fishing and had to have bunch of rabies shots after that cuz of a dang beaver that acted just like this one

Would a mama beaver act out like that if she thought her babies/nest was being threatened? I’m just curious because I know other female animals would viscously defend their offspring. But it also seems like this beaver was going out of its way to target and attack. Idk though

I thought rabies makes you afraid of water? Or is Hydrophobia a human only symptom of rabies..very strange/interesting.
It's not really "hydrophobia". It causes the valve in your throat that closes off your lungs when you drink to become paralyzed so you can't close it. So you literally cannot drink any liquid without drowning. Or that's the way it was explained to me anyways.

It's not a rapid beaver.beavers are territorial animals and will attack humans if you are in their territory.

I was chased by a Bull moose on the water in my bass boat. I could barely out run it with my 101 lb trust trolling motor.

Crazy as hell never knew beavers attack ppl, I’m from the Northern part of Michigan. I’ve seen a lot from big black bears to cougars, but I’ve never knew beavers attack ppl.
my friend just suggested that its simply a really evil beaver and nothings wrong with him he just chose to be like this. edit hes telling me how if he was really rabid he'd be too tired to chase. that beaver simply wanted you to be harmed and would do anything to ensure it'd happen
Depends if it was in the earlier or later stages of the furious rabies, in the earlier where it's not so sickly that it didnt lose its muscle mass or fat reserves, it was chasing both boats with no fear of humans. It definitely seemed to be rabid.

funny most videos i see of animals with rabies they seem to be confused and having trouble just functioning i wouldnt think a beaver with rabies would be very good at swimming. Guess it really depends how far into the infection they are too.

How did you carpet your boat? Did you lay wood first all around?
That boat was a 1448 Tracker Grizzly so it came with a bench seat & front casting deck. I used outdoor carpet from Home Depot, indoor/outdoor carpet adhesive, made a template from cardboard and then cut my carpet and put it all together. Lasted me until I sold my boat back in 2020.

@@Davvidd702 my 1448 had a 45 lb Minn kota edge that did okay in the wind. On calm days I’d average 2-2.5 MPH. I’d suggest going a tad higher just to be safe.
Dang, I lived in Fairfax for 3 years, visited Burke Lake Park a few times, and never knew you could fish it. Saw plenty of signage saying no gasoline engines were allowed on the lake, and never saw anyone out there. Guess I was wrong. 😑

Thats beaver was wild for that. I fish some back woods ponds, and some creeks in southern MD, and I keep a 3 ft pipe with me on my boat and kayak just for stuff like that, and snakeheads, lol.

I watched a long tailed weasel attack a rabbit at my work. Drove up to watch it kill the rabbit on my forklift. Scared the rabbit off, and then the weasel attacked my forklift. Wasn't scared of me or my machine at all. Lol. It was so adorable
