Just the way it goes with TV. I'm pretty sure it was from a strike long ago, but actors get guaranteed pay increases the longer a TV show runs. Mythbusters ran long enough that it just had too many main cast members. The Build Team wasn't willing to take a huge pay cut or some other showbiz nonsense in order to keep doing the show, especially since it was always a massive undertaking. Adam Savage has talked a lot about how they were working crazy hours on mythbusters, and only getting a few weeks/months off between seasons before going back to 100+ hour workweeks, so it's no surprise they chose to step down. Adam and Jamie only did another 2 or 3 seasons without them before they left as well.
This is so heartbreaking. I have the entire Mythbusters collection, and often watch episodes several times per week. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Grant.

Kari was a sweetheart, always loved her enthusiasm and energy. Making her a co-host was a genius move and the show would have not been remotely the same without her.
I had the honor of casually bumping into Kari at a music festival called outside lands in SF in 2010. She was really humble when I was obviously star struck and somehow our conversation lead to the discovery that we both rode the same model of vintage schwinn bicycles to the show that day.

Agreed. I really like Adam's quirky sense of humor but Jamie was such a curmudgeon that he really brought down their segments. What they did was really cool and kept me watching it, but it would have been better with a different partner I think.

They did another episode where they busted the myth that pretty girls don't fart by putting a microphone and a hydrogen sulfide meter in a pair of granny panties ( they looked like bloomers) she put on, and basically followed her around until she farted.
Show had so many great people, the mainstays and all the people they would occasionally bring in to help or what not. There's very few actors that have passed away that I miss but Grant is one of them.

well honestly the show was dead (or more like murdered) at that point. im glad adam and jamie got to finish the show like how they started it, with small reunion reserved for the team. barring the ability to have 30 more seasons this ending was the best possible

I can remember one episode that she did the Chinese water torture to see if there was any truth to it actually working and having a psychological effect on her, it definitely did as she was crying in that episode, I felt so bad I wanted to write her a letter to see if she was okay from that experience!
I remember reading that Discovery just didn't want to ante up and was trying to cut costs, so they cut Tori, Grant and Kari. They thought the show was going down hill and wanted to spend less on it.

Where I come from, a less "developed" country compared to USA, unpaid work, be it as internships or not, are a crime and just the attempting to do so, it is judged as if the crime took place. We might not have the minimum wage of USA, but unpaid work is simply not acceptable in my countries society regardless.
I'm watching this in December 2020 and I still can't sit through even one Mythbusters episode without feeling sad. RIP Grant Imahara and Jessi Combs, gone but not forgotten.
Kari is great! I've had the incredible opportunity to sit and talk with her in person for my podcast and she has been on the show a couple times for her new work with EXPLR.
I watched every Mythbuster episode! Kari entertained me to no end. My all time favorite Kari creation was her flesh eating zombie dog in a season 4 episode where they were determining whether or not dropping a frozen turkey on a pet would kill it.
AT the time Myth Busters Played I wasn't watching television. But I was pleased to see this " Kari Byron " ! She was and probably still is, a " Sweet and Silly Goose " ! And a Smiley one at that !
Kari and Tory are such a good team, they should get together and make something. Tory did a show with Richard Hammond for kids but it was awful and so far from both Tori and Richard's personalities that I think it was just an executive pitch and totally written for them. The second team was just as good as the first on mythbusters, they had such a good dynamic. Rest in peace Grant.

I wish mythbusters could return
Kari and Tory are such a good team, they should get together and make something. Tory did a show with Richard Hammond for kids but it was awful and so far from both Tori and Richard's personalities that I think it was just an executive pitch and totally written for them. The second team was just as good as the first on mythbusters, they had such a good dynamic.
