    Mazda is brilliant, they found a niche buyer like me and went with it. I’m a 30 year VW buyer, I want the CX5. Quality has fallen off at VW and, like most car companies, they focus too much on Tech and bling. I don’t want a pano roof, I don’t want a CVT, I don’t want a big screen, I don’t want a turbo, I don’t want self driving lane assist stuff. I’m the driver, I’ll do the driving, thanks. I don’t care about fuel mileage; quality and simplicity win me over, that’s why I’m breaking my loyalty to VW to buy this.

      The 2023 cx-5 is a great vehicle. Just got one in September, drove it across the country in October. Had a little trouble with strong winds out on the Plains, but other than that it's been awesome. Non-turbo for better gas mileage.

    I don’t t care if it’s getting long in the tooth. The CX5 has timeless beauty both inside and out! The interior seems like a simple work of art. I wish other manufacturers would pay attention to the rich color of red on the interiors that Mazda's use as opposed to the painfully bright lipstick red they try to give us. Only gripe is the 6 speed auto which Mazda holds onto for reliability. Could use an 8 speed. Otherwise just a great product.

    Just because a chassis design hasn't been changed in several years doesn't make it somehow worse. The most typical reason manufacturers are changing the chassis is to make them slightly bigger but that is not "better" if you don't want the extra size, expense, and other tradeoffs of a larger vehicle.

  • @aaronbaird9444
    @aaronbaird9444 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Although y the CX5 is on an older platform, the CX 5 has a better chassis that the CX 30/50. I much rather prefer independent four-wheel suspension than a torsion beam rear axle. If you’re looking to buy a small SUV, the CX 5 is not only the best value, but one of the best rated vehicles in the segment. All the nitpicking about the chassis, and the infotainment is pretty much noise. My only grave is the infotainment as I wish it was dual touchscreen as well as directional dial. I’ve had mine for over a month and my wife and I are absolutely in love with it. Of all the cars I purchase this might be the best one I’ve ever had.

    This is an outstanding vehicle! It is very practical across the board. I've owned two CX 5's. A 2016 and now a 23 Carbon Edition! You don't need all the extra "safety" features! It's simply unneeded tech! If it ain't broke, don't fix it! As of 2023, the CX 5 has AWD as standard equipment.

    A great car - Here in Ireland, the "Carbon" version is called the "Homura". Thankfully it doesn't have those awful red leather seats. I thought the stone (white) seats were bad but that's not nice. I drive the 2018 Platinum CX5 which was the premium model back then. I thought about upgrading to the newer version. So looking at an extra $30000 extra for a 2022/3 model , I decided to stay with the one I have. It has about 55,000 miles and I'm only putting around 5k miles a year on. Makes no sense to change . My car is a keeper - Love the CX5 !! Great review - Thanks.

    Stiffer suspension

    I have a 2018 CX-5 GT AWD and for a compact SUV it impresses me greatly. 2022 IIHSA crash test upped the force of the side impact by 86% because of the weight of electric cars. CX-5 was the only car to rank a good rating. The side windows didn't even break during the test. The moose test checks the cars ability to steer around a large object quickly, and safely by steering hard left, hard right, and then straight at minimum 40mph. Toyota RAV4 front left tire crumbled and blew out from the stress and failed. Mazda did it successfully at 48mph. An Australian race car driver took a 2017 model around a track at speed. Before he tried he was asked how he thought the car would . He said it's an SUV, not built for this at all, but when he finished, he was very impressed with the handling, and how flat it sat in the corners. My father is hard of hearing, and he never could hear me talk to him on the highway at speed because of road, wind, and engine noise in other cars. But we can easily carry on a conversation without shouting. From 2017 on they added 150lbs of sound deadening material, made the windows double thick all around, and double sealed the doors as well which silences the outside world around me. You can find the test videos I've mentioned on TH-cam easily.

    My new CX-5 on order for October delivery is front wheel drive, 2 litre, mild hybrid, radar cruise control, with lane keep assist, meaning it drives itself and steers too. It will stop and set off from a standstill.
    I live in England.
    Maybe it's a lot different in the USA.
    Good review and to have another perspective which I respect.

    • @crashjose
      @crashjose 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure why Mazda have this sort of regional dependant specific products, everybody in the world is waiting for a Mild Hybrid, that would rocket sales even though is the same platform , I just got mine a 2024 model 2.0L front wheel drive and in Panama we receive this car with the 2020 8.0 inch display although this change in USA in 2021, again not the best global strategy, only good thing is that all this units are made in Japan, not the same for the CX50 though

    They've said they're introducing a refreshed CX-5 in 2025, so for those wanting to see the current platform continue a bit longer, it will be around in 2024. My dealer took a pre-order for next year's model already given at least in our area -- CX5's are ordered direct given the lack of inventory. (In Canada)

    I bought my 2016 CX5 sport nav 2.2 litre awd auto diesel second hand, have had it for four years and covered 43000 miles bearing in mind it didn't go far during Covid lock down here in the UK. It has been a lovely car to drive, with plenty of power when you need it and handling to match. I get anything from 35 to 45 mpg depending on where and how I am driving. It's in sunburst red which still looks stunning when washed and polished. My only gripes about the car is that at motorway speeds it is noisy, and the infotainment system is clunky and slow. I have had to have both headlights (£720 each) replaced and a new set of fuel injectors and glowplugs, both covered by the extended warranty. I don't know when I am going to change it, but I will seriously be considering a later version of the same car.

    I have a 2014 Mazda CX 5 with a little over 76k miles. I don't think Mazda has changed this vehicle all that much from what I can see. AWD as compared to FWD for the 2014. Mechanically, the vehicle is great. Motor / transmission work fine; haven't had any problems. Have the brakes checked at every oil change and they're still fine too. I did need new front shocks because they leaked, I don't know why because it's driven in Florida with very few potholes, but oh well. However, my main issue with this SUV is the electronic components. about a yr old the blue tooth malfunctioned --had to be replaced fortunately under warranty. Just after the 3 / 36k mile warranty expired. Some sort of electronic part located near the shift lever went on the blink. The vehicle wouldn't start, but none of the electronics would turn off, the dash lights wouldn't turn off etc. We had to have it towed to a local mechanic, who said it had to go back to the dealer, which was another tow charge, then the dealer fee to repair costed us around 800 bucks. After talking to a few other Mazda owners, they had the same problem. One other owner said he was able to repair himself and the part costed him about 75 bucks. Now, the touch screen doesn't function anymore, blue tooth to the phone doesn't work anymore. this vehicle is garaged and well cared for. So, I hope they have changed these components to different manufacturers because if they're the same, I'm hesitant to buy another. Problem is that I do like the body style, the get up and go as compared to the CRV, which hesitates when accelerating from a stop of even when driving and needing to pass. Also, I like that the CX 5 still has a bumper in the rear. I've been tapped in the rear a couple of times from people looking at their phones or misjudging and fortunately no damage. I look at some of the SUVs and they have hardly no rear bumper. those taps that I got in the past would most likely do the rear door in.

    2022 CX-5 uk owner. Quality is very much in Audi, bmw and Volvo territory. The car is one of the most stylish suv on the market at the moment - still get people doing a double take! The only thing that could be improved for me is to do with power. I have the 2 litre petrol engine and for the size of the car, it feels very underpowered - if Mazda could increase engine size and/or fit the phev engine from the Mazda Cx-60 into the CX-5 they are onto a absolute market winner. I would very much recommend this car to family and friends.

    I got the signature turbo AWD. Just took it on a cross country road trip. Completely loaded down, Going from CA to AR then Georgia and back. Going we took it easy, drafting trucks is super easy with the radar cruise and we saw as high as 29 MPG average on a tank of gas even at high altitude which is way above the EPA rating. That was averaging 65 MPH. Coming back we were in a time crunch so we were going closer to 80. Mileage dropped to 26 which matches the rating. I test drove an older 2019 in top trim (used) before I got this one and it seemed to handle better (flatter cornering while gobbling up large and small bumps). The 2023 seams to have more body roll than the 2019 (and sits taller). I fixed that with a set of Bilstein shocks and struts and H and R springs from Tirerack (seriously who is off-roading these cars with 19" low profile tires? Its a SUV for the street 99% of the time and a dirt or gravel road 1%). The ride is slightly more firm than stock and still gobbles up road imperfections. It can go fast in the mountains without making everyone seasick now. The lifetime Bilstein warranty does not hurt either. You can get hood struts for these cars too, costs about $30.00 on ebay, it works perfectly (drops closed on its own at 6" height and above that opens on its own). I love radar cruise. I'm never going to use the lane assist, its too nerve wracking to use (only steers for you below 45 then all of a sudden you have to take over . . . ok now set the cruise lower. . . but when traffic picks up you are the guy everyone is honking at, no thanks . . if it worked to 65 it would be way more useful) . . the 360 cam is priceless so I for sure have the correct trim level. I easily and inexpensively fixed what bugged me, now its perfect.

Not too fond on all the piano black interior that attracts dust, fingerprints & scratches easy. Wish they can figure out a door pad entry like the Ford Escape & a pano sunroof. Plus Mazda need to catch up on tech w/ live projected path backup camera. Good coverage vid tho. Thx

      What you feel in your vehicle is a normal thing in mazda vehicle , we got a cx5 22 and a cx3 2019, suspension was tuned not that smooth ride it just goes with the technology which the thing called torqe vectoring.if you want a smooth ride you can try the nissan rouge subaru forester they really absorb any bumps and gives a smooth ride,✌🏼🤗

    • @qnzman578

      The cx5 is built for a firmer ride and if you have the optional 19 inch wheels you're gonna feel it even more especially when compared to competitors like the rav4 or crv. On the flip side you'll feel way more engagement with the cx5 than those cars which some people like and can attribute it to a more fun drive as you can actually feel the road instead of gliding over it.

    You need to fact check your videos before you share misinformation.
    1. The CX-5 chassis is far better than the current Mazda3, CX-30, and CX-50. The ride and handling are superior to the latter models because of the independent rear suspension which handles broken pavement excellently; the latter models have a crummy and cost-cutting torsion beam which crashes and skips over broken pavement. The CX-5 is arguably Mazda's best product right now - made in Japan, exceptional quality, and outstanding reliability on a tried and true platform.
    7. The CX-5 has had standard AWD since MY22. Where on earth are you getting "FWD standard" from? Seriously, please confirm your information before you post incorrect information.
    9. Wireless AA/ACP is now standard on MY24; on prior models a simple adapter from Amazon enables the functionality.

    Better a heavy duty six speed than a light eight speed; one reason bought a 2023 cx5 rather than a rav4. Other reasons: quieter and handles great. Major gripe, cannot load up a usb drive with lossless audio and make it work. Don't want someone else's music, like Sirius. Someone has the answer, just share it🤣

    Why would he say that the the 2023 CX-5 doesn't have a head up display and doesn't have USB ports in the rear, when the opposite is true if he bothered to do his research? This is especially troubling since he said he and his wife EACH OWNs a CX-5?!?! And for those who May defend him by saying that may be on higher trim levels, he did bother to mention features that are available on the CX-5 as a whole even if they weren't on the vehicle being reviewed. Also, it doesn't say that this is a review of 2023 CX-5 in a specific trim level, therefore, it's reviewing the vehicle as a whole and should factor in what is available on All trim levels, not just the level being tested in the review. Kind of disappointing since this is meant to be an in-depth review, as now I'm not sure what to believe that he did say about the vehicle since he left out some common features in the vehicle and actually went out of his way to say that they don't offer them.

      Yes. Amount of over-engineering that is done is a big shame and a waste. It only sells to those who feel that technology should do everything for you for you. NEVER trust technology completely. I still do a shoulder check even though my vehicle doesn't give a blind spot warning. Some new features are fine but overall don't need all that extra expensive crap.

    I’ve owned the brilliant red signature model in the cx5 for 2 years. Comes complete with awd, turbo stuff. And Napa leather. Love the car, but hate the piano black. The centre console arrangements is my biggest disappointment. It’s hopelessly short, offers your forearm no support and looks like an afterthought. The setup in the cx30 embarrasses Mazda engineering … or at least it should!!!

    • @bobblenuts
      @bobblenuts ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with the center arm rest, the arm rest that isn't! I had 2015 cx5 and was better in many ways, I frequently travel a road with sharp curves including sharp s cutves. My '23 tends to roll and wander on these curves, Ny '15 was like a sports car on same curves. Tranny is also different, not as smooth and refined as '15. ALSO NO CARGO area LIGHT, have to use my phone light at night to see back there...how bad is that in a PR model AWD? My '15 had light! The biggest improvement is road & wind noise...my '15 was like riding in the open bed of a pickup truck...terribly loud...then I put the snow tires on...ohhh my was it loud!

    A good review in general but the one irritating thing is how you fling your hand out very fast in front of the camera, sometimes very close to the camera lens. Very irritating just like a real person jesturing too close to your face. Also the camera starts to lose focus on what its aimed at when a hand is thrown in front of it. This was done over and over again with no value when viewing the engine with the hood up.
