Non-turbo if you want to keep it longer than your loan. Just better chances of avoiding any engine issues. My opinion. I hold onto cars for, on average, 10yrs. Thanks for the reviews! Looking at these used. Base CX-30.
Same here..... 2002 Chevy Silverado, 2006 Mazda3 2.0 sedan, 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan, and two years ago I bought a new 2023 Mazda3 Premium H/B with the naturally aspirated 2.5L engine and a manual transmission. I still own the first three but may possibly sell one or two now as I am planning on getting my wife a new 2024 Mazda CX-5 Premium with the standard non-turbo engine.
This was my conclusion after the research. I would prefer the extra power of the turbo, but feel the NA engine will be less stressed. I live in Phoenix and cars here suffer enough from the heat.
@@mars1393 Gotcha, not sure what they’re running there. Hopefully something palatable. Like on CX50 here they’re doing 1.9 for 60. Which is still good.
Big reason why we went with our non-turbo CX-5. We love it. Fuel economy could be better, but its not much worse than the non-hybrid counterparts from Honda/Toyota.
Just drove one of these yesterday. The HUD also shows alerts in the appropriate corner to designate presence of another vehicle (kind of a supplement to blind spot monitoring,) It will also show the next instruction if you are using navigation (i was, via Apple Car Play). Towing: Careful on your CRV ratings. 1500 lbs for the 1.5L turbo. It drops to 1000 for the CRV Hybrid. And you lose any kind of spare tire with the CRV hybrid in lieu of a "tire repair kit". Terra Cota looked nice, but not sure it is the best match for the exterior shown. IMO, it's livable but would be a better match with white. The rear seat room is probably smallest in class. Sitting three across would be tight (and as noted, block the USB ports). Leg room is scant. If I sat behind myself, my knees seriously hit against the front seat back as I tried to get in. Once in, I could splay my legs out and "fit", but it is tight back there. I'm 5-11+. All that aside, it drove really great. I drove a Forester Wilderness right after driving both the turbo and normally aspirated CX-5, and it felt like a truck. I drove a non-Wilderness Forester a few weeks ago, and I think the Wilderness is less responsive and feels more mushy than the other Forester trim lines. It feels like anything you buy in this segment may have compromises, and you'll have to choose some things to give up. None of the CX-5's come with fog lights, nor are they offered in the Mazda accessory listings. The headlights are "adaptive" in that they turn as you turn the steering wheel (Foresters have that too, but they add fog lights). But, Subaru, in the infinite wisdom of the Marketing Dept, decided to quit offering the XT, so no turbo option. The 2.5 Boxer is "adequate", pretty much like the 2.5 non-turbo CX-5. On the Subaru side, the 2.5 becomes, IMO, INADEQUATE in the Outback, which is trying to drag along another 450-500 lbs. The did make an XT there, but it lacks the feel of my current Forester XT. Looks like the CRV hybrid can get you to 60 in the low 7 second range, and handles "almost as well" as a CX-5 with more room, but there is that towing capacity, lack of spare, no fog lights, and some reliability hiccups. I haven't fully checked RAV 4, but as far as I know so far, nobody else offers a HUD in this segment outside of Mazda. Good luck in the mighty car hunt folks!
My hubby got me this beautiful ride, Dec 2023. It only had 6 miles on it. Showcase displayed. You read right (had). I've put so many mile on it already. My Mazada is named Coco. Also, we got our with zero interest under $39,000. It sits well for my body, not as comfortable for my husband, how he said he's driven worse 😂. However, he love driving it!!!! Ive tested the Rave4. I'm team Mazada, never thought I'll say that.
I wouldn't say the interior and exterior color "match" per se, but I'm one of those people who hate it when manufacturers limit what color interior you can get by the exterior paint. So to answer the question, I like the zircon sand and the terra cotta interior...and you don't see both at the same time so I see no issue.😊
I like the terra cotta, but think it would be great with other exterior colors. Looking for more flexibility to mix and match. Ex. I think a black exterior and the terra cotta would look great.
Understand your impression lane correction Mazda doesn't want to put money. But for my preference dislike auto-drive packages. prefer the driving vision and experience of the Mazda
And what's so revolutionary about a newer chassis, compared to one from only 10 years ago? If anything, newer vehicles are worse because automakers in-general are cutting more corners than ever, & using cheaper materials than ever to keep costs at a point for maximizing profits. As an example, my (less-expensive) 2015 Toyota Yaris SE hatch 5-MT (with older Toyota tech & design dating back to early 2000's) was a *much better* vehicle than my (Japan-built) 2020 Corolla SE sedan 6-MT (with the new TNGA platform, etc.), which I ditched after only 2 years & 10K miles due to so many problems & quality issues.
You can in fact configure the screen to be touch while driving using Apple Car Play or Android Auto. It is a Blue Tooth menu setting but not a default.
I LOVE this vehicle. Just bought one. Drives like a car and seems like a luxury vehicle. My passengers all love. Got the soul red. Can’t wait to put tints on it. The Bose is phenomenal on the premium! Being a distracted driver I actually fell in love with the wheel for the infotainment
I just bought the Signature '24 version in Mexico 🇲🇽, I thought the LKA was active but it's only passive, also doesn't come with remote car start and no homelink for garage opener, also no heated seats only cool option. It does drive well and the Bose sound system is awesome. Was using TH-cam Premium (YTP) music, went over to Spotify and then went back to YTP but on screen Spotify was fixed so infotainment system is somewhat gimmicky.
Got the top spec turbo 2023 in Sonic Silver. Love it. Not sure what your issue is with the 2024 steering because mine is perfect. I made some fabric seat cushions to keep my butt happy on the leather seats. No touchscreen in mine is no issue at all. It has wireless Apple CarPlay and that can be used successfully with voice commands for both Navigation and Apple Music. Radio stations can be favourited and then selected from the steering wheel. Appreciate it can accomodate a full size spare Alloy wheel though for now I’m ok with the temporary spare. The radar cruise control works as required. Lane keep assist I don’t bother with, I know how to drive and don’t want the car telling me what to do. Speed warnings are great and very useful. If I have any criticism it is that the plastic and chrome door trims are not durable, they scratch very easily. I’ve had PPF put on the gloss plastic and have to take extra care when cleaning that and the chrome door trims. Mazda need to do better there.
The point around touchscreen being safer is a bit dumb especially coming from one of these guys who own a Mazda. If you primarily use the apple / android auto, the dial is very easy and intuitive and does not require you to take your eyes off the road. We own a CX5 and an Accord (with touchscreen) and I prefer Mazda's dial any day.
I love this color, as I am obsessd with how good looking cx-50 is in this color. But I really want a car to be quiet inside. Is this car the most quiet model around this PRICE range (including used sedans)? Any recommendation for a reliable quiet car?
You haven’t used the car long enough. It is easy to develop muscle memory with the knob. Also the CVT may save some fuel economy but the conventional automatic tranny is a more tested and proven design that is more reliable than CVT. Give viewers a fair view!
Thanks for the detailed review. Helped me narrow down which trim package I Want very easily 👍👍 premium or signature trim for the heated steering wheel is a must for the winter.
What a hit job review. There is a setting where you can make the touch screen full time. But some of us who have owned bmws have no problem with the controller. PS love the ride, handling, and comfort of NY 2024 CX5.
I love the Terracotta leather interior & I wish they were available without the middle portion of the seats being black & Terracotta instead. The Caturra Brown leather looks so dark in the Signature it doesn't have enough contrast compared to the black door panels & dashboard. The doors & dashboard desperately needs an ambient light strip retrofit to the doors & dashboard of break up the sea of black in those areas. It looks way too monotone & darker than it should be
Just test drove this Mazda, and all who have found the steering to be heavily weighted to steer. I have found the perfect solution, turn off the Traction Control 🚙🏎. Using one finger you can now make tight turns with ease.
@@peterf90 With TCS off steering it's was easier. TCS only good when you a small amount of wheel spin. When stuck in mud or snow TSC off will let you get out.

This was a very honest and well done review. I own a 2016.5 CX-5 GT with under 70K miles and I'm thinking of trading in my car to get a 2022 CX-5 Sport edition as I believe that there is much better value buying a used car with low mileage. I also have read online that there were more issues than normal with the 2016 CX-5 trims however I have not experienced any problems but I do wonder about long term reliability for the 2016 edition.
Here's the deal with the cargo floor: You can install it in two different positions. The "high" position rises above the fixed floor in the rear corners where secret storage cubbies reside, but you'll also notice (hidden from view) open voids to the spare tire well. This is because the subwoofer is installed underneath the spare tire. This configuration also places the floor at the same height as the doorsill, to ease sliding items in and out. The "low" position makes the floor flat with floor in the corners and eliminates the voids for the subwoofer. The floor is recessed from the doorsill, so you'll have to lift items instead of dragging them out. I suppose you get slightly more cargo space in this configuration (for slightly taller items?), but poorer subwoofer performance. The secret cubbies are still accessible in either position. Having these two configurations makes shopping for a cargo floor liner difficult. If you get the one that covers the corners in the low position, it won't work in the high position. And it would block the subs and the cubbies. So they make models that don't extend to the corners and just jut straight out, but then the corners are not protected in either set up. And BTW, the Zircon Sand/Terracotta combo is AWESOME! There's nothing else on the road like it. Haters gonna hate!
The 2024 touchscreen also works on Android Auto and is easily set to allow using when driving. The HUD also links to Android Auto navigation / Google maps and shows detailed route, lane guidance and turns which is really nice!

2:08 That's true. All apps are made for touch gestures, not for navigating them. Takes more time to get what you want from the screen. I own CX-5 and this is frustrating. 4:02 In Europe 2.5 Skyactive G MHEV is available. 6:15 Trunk has not a single hook, so bottles will come out from the bags and role while driving. 9:30 19" wheels have 225cm tires which is to narrow for the car of this size and height. 17:32 Seats are strange and do not provide enough support in turns. And, here not mentioned, lowering windows down doesn't wipe them of mist and droplets. That's mandatory safety feature on many other car brands.
@@dwnshft I rented a Toyota Rav4 for a week and I HATED how it was fighting me to keep the car centered. Much prefer the "suggestion" that the Mazda provides.

I would love to have seen it with a dak beige leather interior.
I bought a 2021 Mazda CX-5 I would love for Mazda to have Lane assist centering instead of the weak alert and it nudges you barely. Have the option of making it soft or strong correction if you want to stick to your driver's ethos.
Just bought a 2024 Turbo Signature. Don't regret the decision at all, but I do agree about the seats not being the most comfortable (the CX-50 had more supportive bolsters) and the steering feeling a little "mushy" (as compared to the 2012 Mazda3 I had prior). I also agree the options available on the different trims missed the mark a bit. The Carbon Turbo only comes with the terracotta interior and the Turbo Signature only comes with the brown interior. I don't really care for either color and would have much preferred black or white, but went with the top trim because it was the only was to get a 360 cam on a turbo.
I wush they had a trim level that didn't have all that electronic crap. Also, there is a Canadian couple on youtube that show how to make the screen a touchscreen when you're driving. But some people don't need or want all that junk.
Reviewers need to stop complaining about the lack of Apple CarPlay touch functionality while driving, and to learn the car. You can turn on full-time CarPlay touch functionality (even while the car is in motion) by changing it in settings.
This color looks like a moving olive. Ive seen this dozens of times. Its polarizing. 90% of the time it looks green. Then at times the green goes away and it looks like sand. I hated it, then I still kept coming back to it. The terecotta matches perfectly with the black headliner

i think theres a setting in the options to allow devices to be used in motion. So the infotainment screen can be touch screen while driving. You need to select it though and is off by default.
Settings ->
connectivy settings
bluetooth/ iphone connectivy
select phone
and check touch screen in motion for all devices
I have a 2020 cx-5 signature which has the turbo engine and I have 113k miles on it and have had no mechanical issues
Theres actually a setting buried where you can use the touch screen all the time. Just turned it on and now can use both the scroll and the touch all the time.
I LOVE THE SCROLL WHEEL TO ACCESS ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS AND EVERYTHING ELSE! TOUCHING THE SCREEN IS OLD SCHOOL AND MORE ACCIDENT PRONE! LOVE THE SCROLL WHEEL! EVERY VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE ONE!
Mazda is running 0% for 60 months until first week of January on CX-5. Something to consider.
Which country bro?
@@mars1393 In the U.S. They are still offering it in most areas.
@@night5091 I’m in Canada. 😭
Just came home with a new 2024 CX5 and the Apple CarPlay touch screen CAN be turned on. Yay!! It’s easy to make the change in settings.
That zircon sand with the terra-cotta interior really does gives off that 70’s vibe and I like it :)
nice😎
I wouldn't say the interior and exterior color "match" per se, but I'm one of those people who hate it when manufacturers limit what color interior you can get by the exterior paint. So to answer the question, I like the zircon sand and the terra cotta interior...and you don't see both at the same time so I see no issue.😊
I like the terra cotta, but think it would be great with other exterior colors. Looking for more flexibility to mix and match. Ex. I think a black exterior and the terra cotta would look great.
Black would be nice but you can’t get that with carbon turbo🥲 the only other exterior color is white for carbon turbo
How can driving and taking your hand off the wheel, then poking the screen, taking your eyes off the road be more safe? That’s insane!
Some of us don't want an auto pilot system. We like to be in control.
The Zircon Sand with these Terracotta leather interior makes it a way more unique color combination in a sea of CX-5s on the road
I went through car dealerships in Orlando and didn't find a RAV4 cheaper than the Mazda Cx5.
And generally you won’t.
Dealerships make money on add-ons, not base models.
@@jimmy5634 you 100% right.
The signature trim has the "kick under" back opening feature. I love my CX5, the only thing I would change is adding a panoramic sunroof.
Terracotta is best looking interior of all CX-5's IMO. Need CX-5 with 6 cycl & RWD only or CX-70 but not as long as CX-90
Very excited for the cx70 😈
i love most everything about it except the color and no moon roof panoramic. Thanks for the review.
thanks for watching🙏
no, i don't like that seat finish with that sand color. people should pay a tad more for the turbo premium
That scroll wheel is so good. I barely ever use the touchscreen anymore.
I love this color, as I am obsessd with how good looking cx-50 is in this color. But I really want a car to be quiet inside. Is this car the most quiet model around this PRICE range (including used sedans)? Any recommendation for a reliable quiet car?
Interior color doesn't match the exterior but it pops like an accent piece i love it.❤
you can enable the touch screen on ACP and/or AA and make it work while driving - there is a settings for it
You haven’t used the car long enough.
I could do the base model easily, but I want the active driving display. My 2014 Mazda3 has me spoiled, I can't live without the HUD.
I found the steering weight heavy on the one I test drove.
@@peterf90 With TCS off steering it's was easier. TCS only good when you a small amount of wheel spin. When stuck in mud or snow TSC off will let you get out.
I love my 2024 CX5, 2.2L Diesel grey leather interior. It looks fantastic and drives great. Ok don’t drive it like a sports car so I achieve 44.3 mpg urban. I am thoroughly happy with it
Mazda cx5 is super reliable, I have had it from 2017 to today and zero problems, despite using it every day
This is the best video I’ve seen on the CX-5. Well done! On camera, terra-cotta interior is not a pleasing match with desert sand exterior.
would agree, thanks for the love!
I loveeeeee the terracotta seats. The reason I bought it over the higher price
Do not like how far back the cup holders are! Very hard to reach vack
The 2024 touchscreen also works on Android Auto and is easily set to allow using when driving. The HUD also links to Android Auto navigation / Google maps and shows detailed route, lane guidance and turns which is really nice!
Hey guys I enjoyed watching your video on the mazda cx5, do you think the cx5 natural aspirated engine is reliable as the Rav4 natural aspirated engine which one would you choose personally based on power train and driving dynamic if you are planning to keep your vehicle for at least 10 years, please respond I am looking forward for your answer thanks stay safe.
I personally own a 16 cx5 with the n/an engine and it’s approaching 120k miles and no issues so far! Cant personally speak to the RAV4 reliability but I know it’s quite good as well
Completely agree with another comment. It’s definitely not a “ding” that there is no hybrid version. You are reviewing that car, it is what it is, much cheaper, and perhaps better for the environment, for being simple.
You can re enable the touch screen for driving in the settings. Its not a permanent safety feature.
I love you guys video on the mazda cx5 turbo you mentioned that you and your wife owned the natural aspirated engine cx5 what do you think of a Rav4 natural aspirated engine with port and direct injected engine compared to the mazda cx5 direct injected engine, which power train do you think is better the Rav4 or the cx5 please respond stay safe thanks.
I have the non turbo carbon edition in the gray and there is no touch screen and that model does not have wireless apple car play.. dealer said it didnt come equiped with that until the next model up. Also wish this model was the size of the rav, its a little small.
The fact that a hybrid or plug in is not available right now would not deter me from buying a non-turbo CX-5 right now.
Contrary to your view, the driver assist would be a turn-off for me. Like the real driving experience that Mazda gravitates too.
You can still HAVE the features and not use them tho
@@dwnshft I rented a Toyota Rav4 for a week and I HATED how it was fighting me to keep the car centered. Much prefer the "suggestion" that the Mazda provides.
HUD (Active Drive Display) shows much more than you have described.
IMHO, the Carbon Turbo (unless you truly love the exclusive paint and leather colors) is a waste. For only $800 more, you can get the Premium trim, which includes the following (I didn't include the heated steering wheel since Mazda's website does state that both the Carbon and Premium have it).
Windshield wiper de-icer
Automatic power folding side-view mirrors
LED map, dome, and cargo lights
Heated rear seats
Traffic Jam Assist.
I've just bought a 2024 CX5. The model in Australia is called the Akera, can you guys get this model in the US? It has a Turbo, 2.5 litre auto and I'm running it on 98 octane fuel. The colour is platinum quartz. The vehicle performs and handles well. My only complaint is that unlike in the US the interior leather was only available in dark russet. I would love to have seen it with a dak beige leather interior.
I have a 21 cx5 non turbo and use premium fuel and get about 29 to 30.
You should be able to get the same mileage with 87 octane then. No? Or have you tried?
@@t.k.morris no will not get the same. When i use a lower octane i get worse gas milage. 21 to 23 mpg
Pretty sure there is a setting to allow touch screen during driving. Check out the system options for screen.
I bought a 2021 Mazda CX-5
I would love for Mazda to have Lane assist centering instead of the weak alert and it nudges you barely.
Thank you for mentioning the seats. They gave me a sore rear end and my wife doesn't believe me.
My daughter with N/A AWD 2016 CX-5 gets 33.1, I get 27 mpg (more around town) on my AWD 2019 CX-5 Turbo signature.
We just bought one and I like the interior color. I agree on the entertainment controls on for Android.
Congrats on your CX5!
I wush they had a trim level that didn't have all that electronic crap. Also, there is a Canadian couple on youtube that show how to make the screen a touchscreen when you're driving. But some people don't need or want all that junk.
I love the terracotta interior. The red color in the 2023 carbon turbo was much too bright for me, I wanted a darker shade of red.
I can dig it 😎
The turn signal is LED not your typical halogen like you said!! Everything on the outside is LED now.
Terracotta looks good with White exterior but NOT the SAND color exterior.
I don’t think so, mine looks better than my son’s 😃, I got this one And He has the white exterior
Reviewers need to stop complaining about the lack of Apple CarPlay touch functionality while driving, and to learn the car. You can turn on full-time CarPlay touch functionality (even while the car is in motion) by changing it in settings.
I’ve been wanting a Mazda after I had a rental one that was a 4 door sedan.😊
Soul red crystal metallic is the way to go for the exterior and white or black interior
That soul red looks the best!!
Thank God they re-included the temp gauge!
Would u guys recommend getting the 2.2 diesel manual CX-5
This color looks like a moving olive. Ive seen this dozens of times. Its polarizing. 90% of the time it looks green. Then at times the green goes away and it looks like sand. I hated it, then I still kept coming back to it. The terecotta matches perfectly with the black headliner
How would you compare the tech in this one vs 2023 Santa Fe XRT
You can activate the touch screen while driving. It’s in the settings
I have some comments and CIRTIQUE of your review below-- but OVERALL-- GREAT JOB.
👍
I've had mine for about 6 weeks now and I Love the Terra Cotta seats! I wish the steering wheel stitching was also Terra Cotta. I had an Outback in 2014 👎 for me, no match to the CX-5
