I actually priced them out..the CRV hybrid is about $5000 Canadian cheaper. Plus Honda has a much better dealer network than Mazda. I've had 4 Mazda's although the vehicles are ok, the dealerships suck....that an important consideration and would make me hesitant about getting another Mazda.
Yes! I would completely consider this vehicle. We have a 2020 CX-5 that I don't drive often given my wife and daughter, but when I do, I am taken with the refinement, content, luxury-feel and overall vibe. My car is a M240i Performance, so the Zoom Zoom piece for me for Mazda is not quite the same, but it is a well handling, quiet and nice riding car. This 'mash-up' of the CX-50 + the Toyota powertrain is very compelling. The short list for us was the Lexus NX and the Honda CR-V before the CX-50 Hybrid was born, but is certainly on the list now. We are at a stage where we will not be buying too many more cars, so this Mazda (and the others on the list) are top contenders.
You are getting super good at these review videos man. Been waiting for the hybrid SUV that checks all the boxes for almost 2 years and finally ...the cx-50 hybrid is the one. I'll be buying one soon. Thanks for the thorough overview!
Wife wants one. As retirees, not sure if I can afford the substantial price increase over my CX-30. It gets 44 mpg highway, 36-37 mpg town/highway. I've owned Toyotas , Mazdas, & Honda CR-v both great vehicle. This is our 8th Mazda & found that maintenance costs are cheaper than Toyota & Honda. Service is very personal also, compared to the other two vehicles.
Bonus points for talking so well and presenting so clear while driving the entire video. Hard for the avg person to even do this while sitting at a desk 😂
Mazda and Subaru getting Toyota's 4th gen hybrid system is a great thing for the market in general. Even though Toyota has ownership in both companies. It still promotes competition among all automakers. Ultimately benefiting we the consumer.
@carhelpcorner thanks to your video . Not one video that I've seen on this subject alluded to this value proposition. Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport seems over priced now compared to CX-50 Hybrid base trim's standard features. E-AWD, Wireless Carplay/Android Auto, spare tire, 10in display and luxurious interiors

Great video, Shari. Can you make a video where you compare the true cost of ownership for luxury SUVs over the first five years? For instance, I know that Genesis offers free maintenance and some dealership costs more than others for service. I'm sure Lexus would come out on top, but I'd love to see where others land. I still have a question about that middle stitching down the seats. Living In S. Florida i only wear light cotton shorts, while most car reviewers are wearing jeans. Just for the immence possibility that my test drive won't reveal the extent of the discomfort that actual owners may incur, that and the price would still shy me away until at least they change that.

I recently drove the cx50 hybrid and what you call sporty ride I feel is an overly stiff ride, I also noticed when accelerating hard there was a shutter in the transmission/engine, I'm not sure if all cx50 hybrids do that or just the one I test drove. I also noticed that the rear seat Headroom was a little tight, I'm only 5'8" in my head almost touched. I do like the interior and exterior more so than the Honda or Hyundai top trims. but I do feel the Hyundai and Honda Drive smoother and have a more quiet ride.

I’ve owned Mazdas and while this is really nice with the borrowed hybrid power train from Toyota, it doesn’t beat the CRV in space, practicality and ride comfort (still uses torsion beam rear suspension)
Why the US version of top trim missing features? Mazda did not add the heated steering wheel heated rear seats and the memory in the mirrors and the 360 camera on the premium plus trim of the CX 50.
The plastic cladding needs to be like the CX-5. These vehicles are not off-road ones so why look like them? I have a huge concern regarding the comfort of the seats. I would have to rent one and take a long trip to see for myself.
I’m thinking the next Gen RAV4 hybrid may ( hopefully ) have some Mazda input on the interior and the “ sportiness “. Not that the RAV4 doesn’t handle well but it certainly has a very basic interior and the “ sportiness” of the current RAV4 is a small step lower than a Mazda.

@@carhelpcorner I really just wish that the CX-50 seats had some decent bolstering, there's pretty much zero bolstering while the RAV4 seats keep you in place quite well but the CX-50 is the one that's meant for fun driving and cornering
I have actually priced them out, the Honda CRV hybrid is about $5k Canadian cheaper and actually available. The CRV Honda hybrid system is just as reliable as the Toyota system, with Honda having a much better dealer network than Mazda. I cannot over state that enough. Mazda is a much smaller manufacturer than Toyota or honda. The dealer's are average at best and Mazda has limited funds to support them or their clients. I know from experience, I own a mazda. The CRV or the RAV4 is the way to go.
Where I live in LA Mazda has several dealerships. They support their customers very well. Remember, the CRV hybrid does not have a spare tire. So no Honda for me.
For the money, it looks and sounds like the best value, yet the most attractive, best handling, and the most adequately powered vehicle in its class... maybe in any class. I noticed on the site for ordering, here in the U.S., that it does not offer the Terracotta interior color on any level on the hybrid model. Can you answer why that is?
It seems you are right. The US only gets the black or red leather right now. Terracotta leather, heated steering wheel, and heated rear seats are unique to Canada. Very odd decision. I don't know why that is.
I test drove one yesterday. Before the test drive, I was ready to buy this vehicle. After the test drive, it was a no. Very, very loud. It was shocking how loud it was. Secondly, the seats were bad. Not comfortable. I was so bummed but glad I test drove before I put in my order.
Same here. The CX50 front seats are pretty uncomfortable, and the stitching on the front seats are really annoying. The CX5 is more comfortable and upscale in terms of build quality.
I feel like they should have made the cx-50 slightly bigger I feel like it’s not big enough at least 2 inch taller , and the cx-90 is just not boxy enough for me at least
So refreshing to experience a car enthusiast who has the ability to discuss, evaluate and show vehicles for essentially any type user....very rare and very appreciated.

I read several owner reviews and their # 1 complaint is that the
seats are as hard as rock back breakers !!! Deal breakers >>>>>>>>>>
Very true. Seat comfort is very personal and I didn't mind them, but many find them very uncomfortable.
@@carhelpcorner I really just wish that the CX-50 seats had some decent bolstering, there's pretty much zero bolstering while the RAV4 seats keep you in place quite well but the CX-50 is the one that's meant for fun driving and cornering
The RAV4 seat is hard and uncomfortable. The worst in the industry perhaps.

Amazing , and yet it is the # one seller !
I/m surprised you of all reviewers is recommending a brand new model in it's first year. I would have thought you'd suggest buyers wait a year or two.
That's because it's not really brand new. The CX-50 has been in production for over 2 years and this Toyota hybrid system over 6 years.
Wow mazda!
I would have to rent one before I trust the MPG estimates.
I'm not convinced on any hybrid that's not a plug-in, unless your living situation means you can't charge at home.
Plug ins are high in demand that makes RAV4 Prime impossible to almost get. You have to win the car lottery basically.
Toyota has proved this is the way to go. They make the best Hybrid system
Not a big fan of how the US model gets less features than the Canadian one
Why would mazda do this is beyond me. They list m e as a future customer.
It is Rav4 with Mazda badge!
I'd say a Mazda with a Toyota engine is more accurate!
I thought the engine was also noisy just like the one in rav4
Waiting for a CX-30 hybrid since the CX-50/CX-5 are both too large for my taste or lifestyle.
A CX-30 hybrid most likely won't have a spare tire.
smooth transmission?
Can't say until the next video. Stay tuned!
Is Mazda CX 50 less noisy than the Rav4?
It's a Mazta!
@@carhelpcorner Thanks for the reply.
I test drove one yesterday. Before the test drive, I was ready to buy this vehicle. After the test drive, it was a no. Very, very loud. It was shocking how loud it was. Secondly, the seats were bad. Not comfortable. I was so bummed but glad I test drove before I put in my order.
Thank you for your comment. My main question was the noise level at highway speeds, and you have answered it.
Same here.
The CX50 front seats are pretty uncomfortable, and the stitching on the front seats are really annoying.
The CX5 is more comfortable and upscale in terms of build quality.
What about the CVT ? is a Toyotas CVT ?
I feel like they should have made the cx-50 slightly bigger I feel like it’s not big enough at least 2 inch taller , and the cx-90 is just not boxy enough for me at least
🤩🤩🤩
