    Great videos!!! Thanks for your previous help! I did the VLOM mod and cut the gaskets around the oil towers and removed the solenoids. Also blocked the oil pressure sensor port (cut a wedge out of the passageway from the pressure sensor to the galley that feeds the solenoids, and brazed a solid wedge back in its place while leaving pressure access to the oil pressure sensor). Also used your source to turn off the AFM. My new question is with everything done will this trip a CEL? • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The VLOM isn't why it collapsed. Lack of oil pressure during activation is why it collapses. This can be caused from several things but if you want all that message me on my website or search the forum. If you don't do the VLOM mod and tune out of AFM the already internally damaged AFM side of the lifter will collapse the first time AFM activates. So it could fail on first start or shortly after you start driving it but it wont take long. Everything I do has a purpose.

    First off, thanks for the videos! I ordered the VLOM mod parts from you yesterday, because of a collapsed #1 intake lifter. Replaced lifter an still didn't do the trick. Start engine and lifter would work for 3 to 4 revols and stop working. Narrowed down to the VLOM solenoids so decided to try your Mod. Question is this..... If the Mod fixes my issue< will this Mod cause any engine lights? What do I do with the plug that ran the solenoids, do I plug it back in? Thanks again for the helpful vids!!!

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lifter could also be spun, you can determine this by looking at the side of the lifter. To see the side of the lifter you need to pull the VLOM and clean out the oil tower of the suspected lifter with cleaner and shop air. Once cleaned you can look down the oil tower and if you see a hole in the lifter it is not spun. If however you see only shiny metal or a flat surface then the lifter has spun due to a bad plastic lifter guide. When this happens you will need to replace the camshaft and all lifters. This would be a good time to do a full AFM/DOD delete where you remove all AFM components and replace them with non AFM components. Did you old lifter have any damage on the roller if so your lifter was spun.

    Received my VLOM mod kit with tool today. Found your videos after suffering a collapsed lifter on cylinder 4 last week. Really wasn't hoping to spend the time and money on a full AFM DOD delete where I would use the opportunity to spend big bucks on performance heads and cam. If I had know about his crappy system being such a flaw I would have disabled it long ago.
    Light taps, heavy taps, big hammer, small hammer, slows taps, fast taps... After about 30 minutes I was about to give up hope and then POP out came the pushrod just like your videos. I sent you a message from the website, but figured I'd ask here. I did the second part of the lifter release to tap it back down a bit, but mine didn't move. Is it possible it just freed itself up to the correct position and didn't overshoot? I bolted the rocker back on and turned the crank over several times. The valve opens and closes fine now with proper tension on the rocker.
    Computer went off to LT1SWAP this morning before the tools came so I'll leave the truck off until it comes back. Just want to make sure I'm good before buttoning it all back up. FYI, the instructions showed the oil passage block off as in the videos here, but not the gasket mods. I did those because of the videos, of course, but others may not depending on which video they find your site from.

    what am thinking , cant you just disable the solenoid in VLOM somehow and leave everything else untouched? like just cut the negative wire or unplug the solenoids so when the car tries to kick down to v4 it cant . I don't think lifters would have any reason to go bad. this way oil would go around everything and lifters would just act like single stage rods . ps thanks for answering another question I had in another video. I still haven't decided what I am going to do with my suburban . I have misfire on cylinder 6 and very rough idle. am driving as is for now with what I can only describe as v7 . definitely less power but oh well for now. love your 5 or 6 vids on this matter

      Continue to drive it and risk further damage. Unplugging it just makes computer through codes due to not seeing what it expects. If the VLOM is bad just disabling or unplugging it won't be enough. Tune is needed and vlom mod recommended.

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need a tune as well. I recommend lt1swap.com for this. However, keep in mind that your situation is extremely unlikely. If you haven't, you should verify that both rockers stop moving. You might only have one that's not moving and in that case it's most likely a spun lifter. This happens when the plastic guide tray fails. If it doesn't happen to be a spun lifter your camshaft will also be wiped out. In that case a full delete would be the best option.

    Do i need to do this mod with an 07 escalsde with dod disabled from factory. Also i am trying to find which lifter is partially collapsed. As i have no misfire code or even a random missfire code. Also is there a chance it could be any cylinder instead of just the dod ones?? I do have a p0121 and a p0341. Hello, first of all thanks a million again for this hack! I'm back a year and a half after releasing a stuck lifter and doing the VLOM mod (07 Tahoe 5.3).
    Lately I've been dealing with low oil pressure warnings plus a heavy lifter tick only at startup that has grown louder, and I've tried a few fixes...
    Replaced a bad o ring on pickup tube and replaced oil pump. Tested oil pressure at filter to rule out pressure relief valve in oil pan. It looks like my last resort is worn bearings.
    Anyway I'm about to get a entirely new engine and my question is can I just plug the passage port on the new engine without removing the VLOM gaskets possibly voiding the warranty, or will the tower passages in the plate eventually clog over time and put pressure back on the lifters?

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On a new engine just having system turned off is all that's needed. However, I wouldn't put a new engine in yet. the tick at start up is likely a broken manifold bolt, I have a video on the topic. As for the oil pressure, it's likely the second camshaft bearing causing this. I'm sure you guessed it, I also have a video on replacing camshaft bearings and I talk about it's relationship to oil pressure in it. When doing the bearings it would be a perfect time to do an actual AFM delete. Where you replace camshaft, lifters, valley cover and trays with all non AFM components. Sure you won't have a warranty but you will have saved probably $2500.
