This was a email sent to me by a customer and I agree with his technique and tactics he took in his approach. I think this will be a helpful read for many watching this video. Email from Mark: Charles, I wanted to offer a follow up on my AFM delete. Please feel free to share this any way you wish. I did the delete on my 2007 Yukon XL 5.3L 0 Vin Engine, so Iron block, aluminum head 5.3L with 141,000 miles. I removed the Intake manifold and the AFM manifold, removed the AFM system from the AFM manifold and did the Oil Feed block off. Thank you for the quick shipment and great advice. This engine had the zero compression in Cyl #6 at tear down. With the lifter no longer locked and the AFM deleted I tuned out the AFM from my computer permanently. No chip, just deleted from the OEM computer so it never looks for AFM again. I left all 8 of the AFM towers below the AFM manifold in the block open, did not plug them off as your note indicated plugging the towers can cause the AFM to activate when you don't want it to. I worried about this causing low oil pressure. On start up once the computer was programmed this engine runs like a top. Very quiet, great power and smooth at all times. I bought this truck broken so I can't speak to original MPG but after the delete on flat ground at 70 MPH this rig will get 20 MPG. With a 80 mile mix of Freeway and City I got 17.4 MPG. I am happy with this in a rig this size. Oil pressure sender was changed and the AFM filter deleted when I did the AFM delete because when this truck was received it showed zero oil pressure but the engine did not knock or rattle so I knew it had real oil pressure. Hot Oil Pressure was 20 PSI at idle and above Idle it hit about 32-35 and never went higher at any RPM. I know GM says this oil pressure is normal. As an engine guy my whole life I did not like this low oil pressure. I pulled the Oil pan off and replaced the O'Ring on the oil pump pick up tube. While the pan was removed I pulled the High Oil Pressure relief valve off the oil pan and plugged that hole with a 3/8 pipe plug/engine plug. This relief valve is supposed to open when you have more than 75 PSI in the system. This is a safety to protect your AFM lifters from high oil pressure which could cause them to have problems. I think either the Oring on the pick up tube was leaking causing low oil pressure or the relief valve was releasing at a low oil pressure. After this repair I installed a factory AC Delco oil filter and new Castrol 5-30 oil. Hot idle oil pressure is now 30 PSI, at any RPM over 1,000 oil pressure is above 40 PSI and maxes out at 60 PSI near 5,500 RPM. I am happy with the oil pressure now. Engine runs very quiet, power is good. No sign of oil consumption and the oil in the pan with a couple hundred miles on it is so clean it is hard to see it on the dip stick. Before removing the oil pan I ran it for 30 minutes at 1,800 RPM after adding 1 quart of ATF fluid. This works as a nice cleaner inside the engine. I would not run it loaded while you clean as ATF is not as good at protecting parts but does a good job of cleaning parts. Then I drained it and pulled the pan. The old oil looked OK before the ATF 30 minute run, it was due for an oil change so slightly dirty, a little brown in color. IT was Jet black on the drain so I did remove a lot of gunk from the engine with this flush. I have yet to determine if the car will pass smog with the AFM deleted or if the Smog check techs will even check to see if the car has AFM. Other than that, zero codes now, no check engine light have tripped since the AFM was deleted. Charles your parts worked exactly as you described and were delivered very quick. Thank You. Keep up the great work. Mark
This helps, mine has zero compression on 6 and I was thinking blown head gasket I am ordering your toolkit now and will get LT1SWAP to reprogram the PCM. Thank you for the great information .
A local repair shop quoted me 5k to fix my lifter issue. Pull the heads, replace the cam and all that. I didn't think for a second that i wiped my cam. I drove it only a few miles to get home once the ticking began. I was ready to do the work myself since I felt confidant I could, I was a certified mechanic in my twenties and a car nerd for years. I found your video though and what a genius idea.. bought the kit, did everything in the video exactly and got the exact result you did INCLUDING the push-rod launching itself across the barn.. lmao. Needle scaler did the trick where the hammer couldn't too. Thank you sir, you are a life saver and you have my respect.
I also was quoted $4-$5k for a full delete kit to be installed. I'm in Arizona. Anyone in Arizona here that can do the job for cheaper? Thanks in advance
It's 2024 now and I've just ordered and received the lifter tool. (Haven't used it yet.) When I opened the package there was a small booklet included. It turned out to be a copy of the US Constitution. Amazing! This dude is legit. Thanks.🙏🏼
I just received mine as well! I have a 2013 Denali 6.2, I thought it was really cool that we got the awesome gesture with the constitution of the United States. When my boys got home from school today I started reading it to them. I’m so thankful America after over 200 yrs of being established, we still have real American Men that believe in the rights set forth by our forefathers and we know how important every word is. They knew someday our government would try to control us, and they are our servants not our masters. Thank you
@@CrazedPerformanceRepairI appreciate your video as my 2009 Yukon XL is doing something similar. Random question, are you located in Southern California? I need a reliable, trustworthy mechanic for this. Thank you!
@@jenalawton484 Nope, I avoid Cali like it's the plague. I'm id free SD. You can check my websites for shops will to do the repair listing though and see if any are listed near you.
I have a 07 Tahoe and it collapse #7 while I was on a trip. I drove it 200 miles to get home. I knowed it destroyed the cam or roller on the lifter but to my surprise when I tore it down all was fine. I made me a tool and unbelievable the lifter reset. This has saved me a ton of money. I'm a diesel mechanic but no way would I have knowed this trick. I orded the vlom plug from you and put all back together . Once I fired it up it was missing still but the slap was gone. Pulled the #7 spark plug and it was shot where I had to drive it so far. Put new plug in and runs like a champ now. Getting it tuned tomorrow. I can not thank you enough. None of the gas mechanics around here does your trick. Knowledge is power. Thank you over and over.
My 07 did the same on the way home from vacation. Number 7 also. We stopped, it fixed itself somehow. 75 miles later no 1 dies. I'm contemplating this or full dod delete. The truck has a bazillion miles. The instrument readout doesn't work, just the gauges. Would it be worth trying this or just pull the cam?
Did u keep the truck and keep driving it ? Did u have any problems ? I'm thinking u sold it i hope u kept it and i won't to know Did u have to do anything to it after? Please be honest thanks !!
I have this same problem and some ass robed my tools from my truck on my way to Ct. from N.C. now I can't even take out a spark plugs. So after I replace what I need then I will execute. Thanks to the honest people who try to help. It's a blessing!!
Just going to say... this guy is a stress reliever and wallet saver. In my 2008 Chevy 5.3 My #7 lifter collapsed and after they quoted me 3,600 at The shop I stumbled across this video, I ordered the kit and released my lifter. This man is a genius and life saver. Also want to thank you for refunding the extra 7 bucks I had to spend for purchasing the release tool and plug separately. This works and just want to thank you for the help!
THANK YOU!!!! ORDERED YOUR VLOM MOD KIT AND IT WORKED AMAZING #4 LIFTER WAS STUCK GAVE IT A LITTLE TAP WITH YOUR TOOL PUSH ROD JUMPED OUT TAPPED ON ROCKER ARM IT SET PERFECT IN AND OUT IN 3 1/2 HOURS!! YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!! ANYONE WITH THIS ISSUE FOLLOW HIS LEAD AND YOUR TRUCK WILL BE BETTER THAN EVER. THANK YOU JASON
@@armandovilla6241 I have not done the tune yet, I bought a plug in tuner from Range RA003B the only problem is it won't pass Ca emissions. I need to go through the posts and find out who the guy is that does the tune AFM delete I guess you would call it. I wrote all the info down and misplaced it.
I just did this trick today and it worked PERFECTLY!!! GM has got to hate you for this video. Thanks a lot for all the info you supplied for the repair! YOU DA MAN!!!
Got my ol 5.3 back on the road after watching this and saved me a ton of money. You sir are a bad ass dude for putting this trick out there, it is much appreciated!!
Just did this today and what a relief! Took about 45 minutes of working on getting it to release. Just be patient! after reassembly and running for 5 minutes the ticking and skipping is officially gone. Thanks!
Thank you for making videos that address this issue. All the auto repair shops want to do is replace the whole engine and that is crazy so hopefully you mechanics will take note that replacing the entire engine is NOT necessary and inform your customers about this fix! What's wrong? Not enough money in it and too much labor? There are those of us out here willing to pay labor for quality work!!!
Yes indeed, and hopefully I will be able to build up a national list of techs willing to tackle this. If You see this message and are willing to take on this repair sign up for my mailing list and when I have enough I will put it up on my website.
This is pure gold. All new information for me. Thanks a ton. Btw, I think you're one of the best mechanics Ive seen on YT out of 1,000 Ive watched over 10yrs.
Well, my 6.2L finally got the stuck lifter couple weeks ago. The #4 cylinder. AND just received my lifter release tool & VLOM mod kit from your website. Will follow your procedure here and will update when it's all done.
This happened to my 2007 Sierra 1500 at 140,000 miles. I found this guy and realized what the problem really was (god bless youtube). I really hated having to tear my engine apart so I tried a whole can of sea foam in the oil. I let it idle 45 minutes (noisy as heck!). I then bought the Range device and drove about 50 miles and the noise and misfire gradually improved until the noise went away and the truck ran perfectly! changed the oil again after about 200 miles and I think I saved myself a ton of work. Try this before you take anything apart.
@@realt3600 The range device is a plug in program chip. put it in the OBD port and it prevents the computer from activating the 4 cylinder mode. It is a MUST if you want to try the sea foam fix. Update...My truck ran great for about a month but eventually the problem came back but only for about 2 or 3 minutes after start up every 3rd or 4th day. annoying, but I know what it is and it goes away after driving about a mile.
@@cliffordseibert5319 actually not it rusted my engine on the inside, rust began to be on the oil stick after a while , had to go ahead and get a new engine
I have a late 2007 ChevyTahoe 5.3 V8 with 160,000 miles. It had a cylinder 7 misfire. I replaced the plugs and wires. That did not fix it. I checked the coil and fuel injector. Still did not fix it. I replaced the intake manifold gaskets because I read that a vacuum leak could cause this problem. Still no success. I watched this video and followed his instructions carefully. It worked exactly like the video. The intake valve lifter was stuck and I had the “service stabiltrak“ warning and the check engine light was blinking. This video saved me a lot of money. Thank you Crazed Performance Repair.
Just did this fix to my son's 2008 Silverado yesterday and it was a success. His #6 intake lifter was hung up, and it had erratic oil pressure most likely from the finger-tight VLOM bolts. I reassembled and re-tuned it with My Diablo Trinity turning off the AFM "feature". I did not do any "hard deletes" to the VLOM to disable the AFM but I believe with the tuner turning it off I shouldn't need to. Thanks for the advice, the lifter popped up on the 2nd hit with a punch I ground at a 45-degree angle. Initial test drive with a "Mileage" tune from the trinity gave me between 17 and 18 mpg with mixed driving freeway and back roads at 55 and 70 mph running 10% ethanol fuel and outside temps of 10 degrees F so pretty good.
Just did this little trick today on a 2007 Chevrolet tahoe 5.3. Worked like a charm. Had two different mechanics tell us that we needed a new motor. Not fixable. BS. This worked great. Thanks so much for the videos. Your a godsend. Sending the computer off for the delete as soon as possible. Thanks again.
They just didn't know what the problem was, and assumed it was burned valves etc. Actually rebuilding the system isn't that hard or expensive (relatively speaking). I had a customer that came in with one. I didn't like doing internal engine work, so I explained what it needed so he could find someone to do the work.
Can’t be happier with how your tool worked for me! Took about 10 hits with a hammer and the pushrod shot out. Thank you so much for the in depth explanation and the amount of detail you went into. Saved me a ton of money for a full delete kit. I will be recommending this to my shop and hopefully we’ll be buying a few of your tools
Just wanted to give you major kudos sir. I have an 07 tahoe that had this issue watched your video about 50 times adn talked myself into doing. i am mechanically inclined but would never had attempted this without such detailed informative video. Absolutely everything you did in the dis assembly and repair was exactly what i had seen. Thank you so much i just can not say it enough. i am shipping my ECM to LT1 Swap today and hopefully by the end of the week I am good to go. You saved me thousands thank you again! BG
My truck silverado 08 messed up paid some guy to fix it he messed it up then watched this video after my 07 tahoe did the same ordered your parts did it myself annnddd SUCCESS!!!! Thank you so much God bless you for helping all of us out.
This works!!! I bought the premium tool and a plug, followed this procedure and the one linked that walks through removing the intake manifold. Freed a stuck #4 lifter in a 2007 Suburban and saved a friend of mine lots of money and hassle. Thank you so much for discovering and sharing this in such a clear way. Our lifter wasn't releasing even using a needle scaler, but we shot some Sea Foam down onto the lifter and it popped right out after that. The engine was still a bit warm, so I don't know if it was the cooling or lubricating of the Sea Foam, but that might be something to try as a last resort.
Hi Scott, What type of Sea Foam? The spray, or liquid engine cleaner? I see a few varieties at AutoZone. I did this same procedure a few years ago on my 07 Suburban and now have a 06 Envoy Denali with same issue. I've been tapping but it hasn't popped yet. The Suburban took a while too. But the push rod flew out and hit the wall when it released on that one.
1st: The reason that GM used 4 cylinder mode during a stability event was to reduce engine torque to try to stop the tires from positive slip (loosing traction). 2nd: the reason you are experiencing the odd engine running during your road test was the system shutting off the cylinder fuel and spark before realizing that the cylinders did not shut off the lifters at the same time. Now the PCM will reestablish fuel and spark to the 4 cylinders and set the engine light and run more correctly. Good Luck in the future, great video!
I bought a afm disabler. I wasn't having any issues except it felt like power loss. Which I assume is normal. I hated that. I would run my 2015 Silverado in M5 and then I bought the disabler by I think Range. I have been trying to see why my fuel mileage is the shits. Maybe it is normal. About 11-12 in the city and 18-20 on the hwy.
I did this to a 2006 Buick Rainier V8 (with 233,000 miles) that had the 5.3 DOD/AFM, and it worked perfect. The engine idled so smooth after I could balance a nickel on the engine and it would not fall over. My lifter was really stuck, it would not release, even with the disassembled scalier hammer like what you used. BUT after about 20 min I was able to get the push-rod to pop.
This guy deserves a comment. Tool arrived very quickly and did its job releasing a stuck lifter. I would like to add so it may help someone else. I started with my failed lifter in the base of the lobe position so if i damaged the lifter i could turn over the engine and the cam would force the lifter up and make easier if i ended up having to remove head and replace lifter. I tried the hammer method and the needle scaler method with no luck at first. Then i figured why not try turning the motor over little bit moving the lifter up a little bit past the spot with the oil feed hole on lifter and tried again. With two small hits with a hammer out came the pushrod and lifter uncollapsed. This guy deserves alot as he has saved many people loads of time, money, ect. Also i will add for those with oil pressure issues at hot idle this vlom mod significantly improved oil pressure as well. Thanks again and keep up the hard work.
This video is worth a million! I just did this to a truck I recently bought and so far so good. I bought the tool and VLOM mod. I used a mini needle scaler like you did..I had to really hammer on mine for a while to get it to release but it did. Awesome video and THANK YOU for sharing this with everyone.
This guy's awesome!!! Someone made the comment " GM should be doing more to support us' , I feel they're only doing what they can to support themselves, that plastic sound barrier part he threw on the ground and said serves no purpose (which absolutely cracked me up) I think was actually put there as a barrier to keep many from changing the sending unit themselves thus making many have to take their vehicles to the GM shop so they can make more money off of us. Absolutely love this video.
EVERYONE!!!! I just completed this fix on my girlfriends 2012 yukon a half hour ago!!! It worked!! It worked!!! it worked!!! I am so freaking happy!! It cost the 30 something bucks for the tool and 3 ish hours of my time. This video shows step by step how to do it. Don't be scared. Take a deep breath and go step by step if you've never done major mechanical repair before. You'll probably hear what side of the engine it is on but you should get a code reader to find out which cylinder its on. It popped loose after 5 minutes for me. Thank you so much Crazed performance repair!! Your video and tool are life savers!!!!
I bought your release tool and disabled the VLOM on my 2011 Yukon 6.2L and 10k miles later its still running great. GMC dealership quoted me $3500-5000 when my lifter collapsed to replace cams and lifters. thanks so much!
What were all the symptoms you noticed when you had this issue? I have a 09 6.2 Yukon Denali I don’t know what’s wrong the thing. They want to put a used engine in it. I’ve always been against that. It was running just fine before
Just wanted to update again. My girlfriend's 2011 Tahoe had a lifter collapse at 180ish thousand miles 2 years ago. Sounded like a rod broke it was terrible. Quoted $2800, bit high to throw at a high mileage vehicle. I found your video, ordered your tool and freed the lifter! I then used my diablosport and turned off dod. It's now been 2 years, religious quality oil changes every 4k, and has about 223k miles trouble free. All in all was about $250 after valve cover and intake gaskets, your tool and tuning.
Have you had any issues with your transmission or VVT after turning off the DOD? I just unstuck my Lifter yesterday and now im wondering if I should do the vlom modification and get my computer tuned.
I was able to free my lifter using your tool. Picked the tool up on Monday and was laid off Wednesday. Saving money is an absolute blessing at this time. Thank you so much. I sent my computer out to LT1SWAP for the DOD disabling. My Tahoe is running great. I've posted this on a couple other related videos for this issue. Definitely worth repeating. I'm telling everyone about you and your channel. 👊💯
Thank you for you channel! 2011 6.2 with a stuck #4 lifter purchased your tool, watched your vid, installed the VLOM and deleted the AFM. Worked like a champ!
This is excellent info on resetting a collapsed lifter, and modifying VLOM to keep it in full time 8 cyl. For trucks that do not yet have this problem, is to tune out AFM either by a custom tune or a "Range Devise". This will keep engine from going into 4 cylinder mode and likely keep from doing this type of damage. Another very important thing do do is change oil every 3500 - 4000 miles. These engines seem to be oil sensitive. Doing so will help eliminate problems like plugged PCV passage built into the drivers side valve cover and plugged oil pressure filter screen. DO NOT RELY ON OIL LIFE MONITOR!!
The valve cover needs to be updated due to having an integrated PCV. This will usually stop oil usage and prevent the #7 cylinder misfire these things love to develop in higher mileage
Your the best! I unseized the collapse #7 lifter. Removed the solenoids, installed the oil pressure sleeve under the pressure sensor, installed new DOD plate gasket and valve cover gasket and the truck is running better than new. I also had the computer reprogrammed by LT1 swap. I gained confidence in my truck. Good work!
slybine222 I’m having the same problem and I’m about to order the tool just wanted to know did you get the tune done before or after you release the lifter
Well I bought the kit last week and tried it and I thought I didn't get any results because I didn't get that rapid release like you got that shot out the pushrod. So I did everything else just in case and put it back together and low and behold it did actually work even without the rapid release. Now to see how much longer it'll last. It's got 360,000 miles on it so probably not much more
After buying your tool and following your instructions, I saw the most satisfying pushrod flying through the air I probably ever will. I've had this 2007 Silverado for nearly 12 years and it was retired to second truck duty last year. This is the first internal engine issue I have had in 234,000 miles. Hope it serves for just a little while more. Thanks.
Did everything you said so far even tho it broke my heart to break my gasket off lol now just to put it back together, I’ll keep everyone updated on the progress
I just ordered the tool on Tuesday night got it Friday and had my Yukon back up and running from start to finish in 2 hours!!! Thank you so much for saving me a bunch of money and for the video
Awesome video and tool. Ordered the lifter release kit last week and just done this to my 08 Silverado today and it worked great! Engine is as quiet as ever. Thank you for this information!
I am planing on doing everything he does in this video. I already order the parts he sells. I am successful what is the name of the tune that I need and where can it be done?
Woooow….I bought this truck 3 days ago…2007 Tahoe ltz blue..with 2021 Tahoe rims and tires worth 2k…truck has 170k on clock..I paid 2500 cash for it..looks like it did the day it came out..but ran poorly…misfire on cyl 6..watched this video and removed top end and freed up the exact same lifter as you…unbelievable…thanks a whoooooole lot…I can’t wait to crank it after I put everything back…..
Dude this video is TOP NOTCH. Exceptional. Thank you VERY much for your comprehensive approach and no nonsense straightforward information. Really appreciate your sharing. The lighting, the camera vantage, all is A++, thank YOU!!!
First video of yours that I have watched, but you're like a scientist who just likes working on cars. Your approach to problem solving is incredible. Subscribed!!!!
Tool worked great on releasing a collapsed lifter. I did the VLOM modification where I cut the seals and inserted the oil sending unit plug. I have a Range to disable AFM as well. After driving a few miles (it drove absolutely perfect) the truck started to miss on the same cylinder. I was bummed 😢 thinking the locks on the lifter were shot. Turned out to be a loose spark plug wire on that cylinder. What a coincidence!! Running perfect again. Thank you so much for this video and all the tips it worked out great.
Bought the kit and it worked great! I used an air tool like you suggested and it made it so easy. I knew by all the satisfied customers that your tool worked. I cant lie though I honestly didnt think it would work on mine. I was wrong!!!! 100% satisfied customer! Thanks a million!
THANK YOU BROTHER OF THE TRADE....I will put this to use right away...i bought a vehicle from the auction and it has the lifter problem..after watching your video, I didnt want to log of your channel, completely stunned....I will regain my new vehicle for use.
Thank you for making these videos. I was able to release the lifter using your tool in my 08 Silverado and sent the ECM to the place linked on your website. It has been running perfectly for a week now. You saved me a bunch of money and I owe you. Keep up the great work!
It ran great for over a year then started misfiring on the same cylinder. Ended up doing the full delete kit and it's still running strong. It did buy me some time to save up for repairs though.
@@curtiscattau5278 the repairs your taking about is replacing the lifter ? And what do you mean by doing the full delete kit ? I'm just tryna get a better understanding before I start working on mine
You can definitely do a direct swap with a new spring type lifter. You will also want to change the gaskets if you do that. What I ended up doing included swapping everything including the camshaft, oil manifold, solid lifters, etc. You will also have to send in the ECM to delete the displacement on demand system. They sell what I believe are called DOD delete kits with everything needed. And there should be a link on this page for where to send the ECM to be programmed.
I can’t believe I found this video and had my problem fixed within two hours. Did lifters on a high miles 2008 iron 5.3 and several months later the guy comes back saying it was making the same noise as it was before. This saved me a teardown. Definitely going to delete the dod in the tune now.
It is rare for me to leave comments but in this case I feel I should. Not only did it work but the part that blew me a way was how fast he got it out to me. I was concerned that the truck would be stuck blocking my bay. i was on the fence about buying his tool and I even thought about making my own but if you don't have a LS torn down to use to mock up the tool you really can't get the angle right plus for the cost not worth the time to make. Awesome job to come up with this trick and to supply us the tools to do it.
WELL WORTH THE MONEY VS A FULL DELETE PRICE. *** Oil pressure gauge went up after this repair *** I Bought the premium lifter release tool, $53 kit. Took about 15 medium hits with a nail hammer and out went the pushrod. I had the lifter on the highest part of the lobe In my 2011 Escalade with a 6.2 and 112k miles. Local friends were saying they’ll sell me snake oil next and didn’t believe it will work. Well for $53 or less, if you get the other tool he sells, it was worth a try vs about $1000 + for a full delete with tune or even just replacing the afm lifters on the one side that failed. It still adds up vs trying this 1st. I also did the VLOM mod in this video. Next I’ll delete the afm crap in the ecu. I’ll update if anything happens.
Really glad I found this video, I have a 2012 Escalade with a 6.2 in it, the ticking literally started this morning taking my kids to school. Changed the oil, also got an error misfire in p4. Changed the spark, still taping. Tomorrow I’ll move around the coil to rule that out hopefully it’s nothing more. If it is, I’ll be ordering!
07 Tahoe I thought my motor was toast. Found your video and bought the full kit. Did you fix i used an electric hammer drill and it popped right out. Just got back from the test drive and it runs fantastic! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Great tool! Working on a 5.3 Impala SS. This lifter released but didn't shoot the push rod out. After using the air hammer, i was about to give up but decided to put the rocker back on and just see what happened. When i snugged the rocker down, the valve moved a bit. So i removed the rocker and used a screwdriver handle and hammer like you did to make sure it was seated. Then, using a bypass relay, i bumped the motor and watched the intake valve work! Sweet! Great tool! Great Video! I couldnt be happier! I needed to buy a set of your special pushrods for a 2017 and decided i needed to have this tool in my tool box and an extra VLOM plug- So glad i did! I will be using this to save my customers money on future repairs! :) I needed to cut the slot on the VLOM plug on the 17... do i need to cut the plug for this 09 or just tap it in? Thanks again!
Wow!! I amm stocked!! To be honest I was hesitant, However I bought the kit. And When I was using your tool And the push rod came flying out after the lifter released... I shouted out thank you Jesus. yes I was super excited... Shout out to you and Lt1Swap for the Tune. The ride sounds and is running great. Thank. You so much....
This video just confirmed my suspicions. I have a 2007 Buick Rainier CXL 5.3 vortec and it has the dreadful p0300 misfire low oil pressure sending unit malfunction gauge light.... but I checked the oil pressure and it showed 35 to 40 ... I thought that was normal it always had a tick. But now I know why. Thank you for your expertise. I will look into your product when I go to dig deeper into this matter! I almost thought it was a electrical issue considering the sensor issue. Thank goodness I ran across this video!
thank you so much for your tutorial on this. No shop would touch my wife's 08 suburban. They were it needs a motor, 12k 3 yr warranty. I told them about the AFM issue and they said nope we don't need the work that bad. Either crate or reman. But one mechanic stopped my wife leaving the parking lot and said I'll give you 2k for it. So watched your expert gospel on the AFM system and got the lifter unstuck and mixed marvel mystery oil and seafoam and used a syringe to shoot the blend down the other AFM lifters for good measure. Bought a range technology AFM disabler so I didn't have to get the ECM reprogrammed, then reassembled and the truck is 100%. First big repair I have done on it since buying it 8 years ago other than tires and brakes and oil changes. And the disabler works on any AFM up to 2016 so I can move it to the next car. Thanks again
Thanks for the detailed video! Everywhere I go around the internet, people seem to be very concerned with plugging up the lifter oil channel towers, either with a new non-vlom valley cover from a 4.8 with gaskets, or by using a Lingenfelter rivot kit. Your approach goes completely in the opposite direction by removing the gasket material, and leaves those wide open to the pressure in the valley. I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on this, and if it's something that needs to be done. I just want me engine to last as long as possible!
Thank alot for showing this vid! Worked just like you said. I used the active fuel management delete plug in. I alos just took a old screw driver a little smaller than hole and cut it up to make the tool. Tapped on it only a couple times andvpush rod shot out. Again thanks for tips on this stuff!
If you are using the range disabler device I highly advice against that. Be sure to listen to my instructions on the VLOM mod and where to get a tune done.
This “trick” is nothing new lol been doing this for years to release stuck lifters lol. However , it’s a great video and good to spread the knowledge 👍
Well I used the tool and it worked like a charm. Didn't take to many smacks of a hammer to pop the lifter free. I wound up shelling out $200 for a new VLOM because I couldn't wait for my truck to be back on the road drove about 50 miles so far and no problems. Thank You keep up the good work.
Just want to give you a shout out on this video!. While looking at a suburban for sale wholesale at a dealership I had the issue narrowed down in 10minutes thanks to your video. Bought, took it home, repaired and tuned it for $125 and in under a few hours. Dealer had $1200 in trying to fix it and couldn't (VW dealer). So thanks again!
!!! BIG !!! Thanks From OHIO. This fixed my Impala 2007 SS 5.3 LS4 !!! You the Man !!! If Anyone Is Skeptical Don’t Be !!! Worked Like Magic That Collapsed DOD Lifter Had No Chance Using This Mans Technique And Also My Needle Scaler From Harbor Freight !!! Thanks Keep Up The Great Work Brosky !!!
A had a little plug that went into the OBD2 port that turned off AFM on my truck. If I got that same plug and installed it after replacing my stuck lifters will that prevent them from collapsing and getting stuck again? Same as a permanent tune would?
Same question!! I am assuming it would work, I have the Range AFM Disabler and the mechanic forgot to put it back in and this happened 2 blocks down the road! Did it work for you?
@Ron Brummer It should work, I would make sure to check the Plenum bolts (I bet they are lose) so it loses oil pressure (leading to this issue). I got a 2009 and mine were lose, I replaced the plenum, intake, along with sensors to. All preventative as way it is basically going on 11 years+ old along with plugs/wires and so on while I was in there. Still way cheaper to do this than a new $50,000 truck.
I just recently purchased the tool from your website. Successfully unstuck lifter number 7 👍🏻 put an aftermarket valley cover on non DOD. Started the vehicle ran on 4 cylinders. Next: turned off DOD: runs like a top 👍🏻. Thanks for the vid and the tool! it saved me a ton of money. (Turned off the dod by reprogramming with a tool)
I have to say, best advice out there! Been working on this problem for 3 weeks. Lifter, guides, on and on! Watched your Chanel, made your tool out of a screw driver and a 4” grinder. Replaced the vlom and fixed it! Thank you for your expertise and your channel!
until people stop buying this gm engineered junk, they will keep on making and selling them. it's getting harder to buy American and get a good value to drive.
I have a question., i have 2015 with 160 k miles (( limo business)) ., am so afraid that this will happen to me ., even though my system is working just fine and oil change has been done every 4k miles and every looks clean ., can the Dod be de-active to prevent this dumbass mess GM put as into ., thanks Brother. I think i have watch all if ur videos related to dumb ass GM idea. Thanks
Yes you can get a range device to have it not engage or actually have it turned off in the tune. It will prevent the collapse problem from showing its ugly face.
This may be an old video but I think I just found what I was looking for. I had asked if there were ways around the DOD delete and was told no pay the 1200 to get it fixed. Lucky for me I work on my own truck and I’m definitely going to do this the way you did. I have a cylinder one misfire with what sounds like a collapsed lifter to me. I wish I had that tool u make but ima figure it out per usual. My truck has been down about four months waiting on people to fix it. Everyone seems afraid lol. I’m doing this today and will let you know how it goes…..thank you again!
some people have 200k-300k on the engine with AFM the issue is "lack of oil changes caused the damage" I change mine every 4,500 miles sure is cheaper then having the engine refurbished
Got 190k miles on my original owner 2011 Tahoe; I changed the oil every 5k, so far so good...if this happens I try this fix, but a upgrade truck cam is planned anyway sometime in the next year
Just finished up doing this after buying your tool and doing the vlom mod it worked perfect!! This saved me easily $1000. Actually it only cost me $53 total to do this whole job! (Had to buy a fuel line remover tool plus your kit) but I cant thank you enough sir!!!
My uncle bought a new 1958 Oldsmobile station wagon with the 371 cu.in. engine. From about day one the engine developed a collapsed or stuck lifter tapping. I believe it was the dealer that recommended that he add a small can of Bardahl top oil. He did that and the lifter noise went away, at least until the next oil change and more Bardahl was needed.
I'm going to try this.. I'm having that issue on cylinder 7 and took my valve cover off and experienced the same deal with the stuck lifter, thanks for this vid and I see you're from South Dakota, greetings from Sioux falls!!
well another satisfied customer. i beat and beat on that took with a hammer... would not release. ordered the scaler from amazon. with in 5 seconds of receiving the scaler, wham - lifter was released. thanks for the great videos and lots of great info.
Man I can’t thank you enough, your tool did the trick about five hits with a hammer sent the pushrod flying. The motor sounds great now. I couldn’t be happier. 👍😁
This was a email sent to me by a customer and I agree with his technique and tactics he took in his approach. I think this will be a helpful read for many watching this video.
Email from Mark:
Charles, I wanted to offer a follow up on my AFM delete.

What a feeling when that pushrod shoots out though huh?
Man 5k?!? I need to up my prices lol. I come in under 2k if cam bearings aren't wiped , new cam, lifters, thrust plate, valley cover and tuning.
@erik120719 where are you located?
I live in Alabama I spent $2500 on a complete AFM delete kit parts and labor
I also was quoted $4-$5k for a full delete kit to be installed. I'm in Arizona. Anyone in Arizona here that can do the job for cheaper? Thanks in advance
It's 2024 now and I've just ordered and received the lifter tool. (Haven't used it yet.) When I opened the package there was a small booklet included. It turned out to be a copy of the US Constitution. Amazing! This dude is legit. Thanks.🙏🏼
Glad you like that. It's the least I can do to try and save this nation!!
I just received mine as well! I have a 2013 Denali 6.2, I thought it was really cool that we got the awesome gesture with the constitution of the United States. When my boys got home from school today I started reading it to them.

Yes. the best is to just replace the lifters with the Corvette lifters and be good
Did u keep the truck and keep driving it ? Did u have any problems ? I'm thinking u sold it i hope u kept it and i won't to know Did u have to do anything to it after? Please be honest thanks !!

Thank you for making videos that address this issue. All the auto repair shops want to do is replace the whole engine and that is crazy so hopefully you mechanics will take note that replacing the entire engine is NOT necessary and inform your customers about this fix!
I'm going to try this method in the morning, quick question what is "the range device"?
@@realt3600 The range device is a plug in program chip. put it in the OBD port and it prevents the computer from activating the 4 cylinder mode. It is a MUST if you want to try the sea foam fix. Update...My truck ran great for about a month but eventually the problem came back but only for about 2 or 3 minutes after start up every 3rd or 4th day. annoying, but I know what it is and it goes away after driving about a mile.

I put 6 cans on sea foam in with oil and let it ideal for 45 minutes and no noise
Shut off and drain oil and new filter
Fixed it
Hi Scott, What type of Sea Foam?
Craig McClain Shit, tell me more. Any tips to keep the AFM in great shape?
I bought a afm disabler. I wasn't having any issues except it felt like power loss. Which I assume is normal. I hated that. I would run my 2015 Silverado in M5 and then I bought the disabler by I think Range.
I have been trying to see why my fuel mileage is the shits. Maybe it is normal. About 11-12 in the city and 18-20 on the hwy.
This plus a Range AFM delete obd plug fixed my suburban. Been on the road for 20k more miles so far with no problems. Thanks for the video!
Did the Range AFM delete obd plug work For the vlom mod ?

Thank you for you channel! 2011 6.2 with a stuck #4 lifter purchased your tool, watched your vid, installed the VLOM and deleted the AFM. Worked like a champ!
I bought the tool for my wife's 2012 Escalade it worked great. Thank you so much. I recommend trying this to everyone.
Good work!

@Tee Mack the piston rings fail on this last time the lifter collapsed the lifter failed twice already. Ima rebuild the engine. 🥲🥲🥲🥲
I just ordered the tool on Tuesday night got it Friday and had my Yukon back up and running from start to finish in 2 hours!!! Thank you so much for saving me a bunch of money and for the video
2 hours that's really good my friend 👏
Awesome video and tool. Ordered the lifter release kit last week and just done this to my 08 Silverado today and it worked great! Engine is as quiet as ever. Thank you for this information!
How do I get this kit and where from?? Thanks
Just did this on an 08 suburban. It worked awesome! I sent the ecm to get tuned and this engine hasn’t run this good in years. Thank you!!!
How's it holding up today ?
Thanks for taking the time to leave this comment, I appreciate it and read almost every comment.
Where do u get parts to this job ?? Thanks

@@CrazedPerformanceRepair How long does it take to arrive? I'm in desperate need. Can you overnight for an extra charge?
Hey Chris, can you give me a one year update on your 6.2L fix? Did you complete the AFM delete in the ecu? Sitrep please...
Did you delete the dod/afm from your computer? And if so, did it work good and did it mess with your transmission?
Really glad I found this video, I have a 2012 Escalade with a 6.2 in it, the ticking literally started this morning taking my kids to school. Changed the oil, also got an error misfire in p4. Changed the spark, still taping. Tomorrow I’ll move around the coil to rule that out hopefully it’s nothing more. If it is, I’ll be ordering!
Make sure you actually have AFM only a small handful of 6.2 have AFM.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair I see it go from v8 to v4 all the time, that would indicate AFM correct?
@@Dad_Jok3s then yes, you have AFM.
Had to use air hammer today on mine, finally got the rod to shoot out, thanks again for the videos!
Sending my computer off tomorrow!
07 Tahoe I thought my motor was toast. Found your video and bought the full kit. Did you fix i used an electric hammer drill and it popped right out. Just got back from the test drive and it runs fantastic! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
DAMN , you are a credit to your profession, thank you for posting this.......awesome video. WOW
Thanks!!!!!! I just ordered a few items just because you didn't have a donation option. You have saved me $$$$$$. Thanks for the free information.
Where do u get parts for this job from?? Thanks
Great vid !!! I did everything you showed in yur video about 2 months ago and it worked great !! Thanks for video
Fantastic video brother! It's amazing how you explain everything in great detail. Love it!
Worked for me, with the vlom mod and the lifter release tool! Thanks so much
Thanks for the detailed video!

I JUST DID YOUR RELEASE TRICK AND IT WORKED. THANK YOU ! !!!!!!
Greatly detailed and informative, well done . Just ran into my first one and will do this first . Thank you
This %100 works!!! It's saved my ass twice so far, but I didn't have to hit it as much either time. Thank you so much for the tip!
Thank you sir ,just did your release trick and IT WORKED!
Did it work for you?
did work for me but 30 mins later driving down the road she started knocking again. your video did help me alot thank you.
Must not have did the VLOM mod and tune.
Man, I wish I would've found your video earlier! This is EXACTLY what is wrong with my daughters 07 Sierra. Thank you!!!!!
Excellant vid, thank you
AWESOME work!!!
Still way cheaper to do this than a new $50,000 truck.
how many hrs labor time for it?
took me total hours of acual work about 4
I just recently purchased the tool from your website.
I’m fixing to do the same. If possible could you answer a few questions
@@LeifLarrimore-en2wo sure be glad to
I have to say, best advice out there!
Yea, better buy Honda or Crysler. Oh. Wait a minute. Same problem with DOD.
My Tundra runs perfect.
@@montefiveforty1 It has DOD?
I ALWAYS USE HAMMER TO FIX MOTORS :)
I RAN SEAFOAM THROUGH THE OIL SYSTEM!! ITS FIXED THE ISSUE.. THEN CHANGE OIL ON THE REGULAR..
@@butplugger4509 still good?
I have a question., i have 2015 with 160 k miles (( limo business)) ., am so afraid that this will happen to me ., even though my system is working just fine and oil change has been done every 4k miles and every looks clean ., can the Dod be de-active to prevent this dumbass mess GM put as into ., thanks Brother.
I think i have watch all if ur videos related to dumb ass GM idea. Thanks
Yes you can get a range device to have it not engage or actually have it turned off in the tune. It will prevent the collapse problem from showing its ugly face.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair Do you still have to block the oil from going to the system?
This may be an old video but I think I just found what I was looking for. I had asked if there were ways around the DOD delete and was told no pay the 1200 to get it fixed. Lucky for me I work on my own truck and I’m definitely going to do this the way you did. I have a cylinder one misfire with what sounds like a collapsed lifter to me. I wish I had that tool u make but ima figure it out per usual. My truck has been down about four months waiting on people to fix it. Everyone seems afraid lol. I’m doing this today and will let you know how it goes…..thank you again!
I ordered this tool as well. I couldn’t believe it when it worked! You’re a lifesaver man!
Lesson learned from video, DONT BUY A GMC WITH AFM lol
some people have 200k-300k on the engine with AFM the issue is "lack of oil changes caused the damage"
I change mine every 4,500 miles sure is cheaper then having the engine refurbished
Really the best, clearest automotive TH-cam video I have ever seen. You are a mechanic for sure; a real one and a great one. Thanks!
Special tool worked for me. Used the needle scaler. The afm delete worked as well. CP saved me mucho dinero. The man's a genius.
I'm going to try this.. I'm having that issue on cylinder 7 and took my valve cover off and experienced the same deal with the stuck lifter, thanks for this vid and I see you're from South Dakota, greetings from Sioux falls!!
Just unstuck my lifter on my 2010 Silverado with a 5.3l with your kit today. Excited to see how she runs when I get it back together
well another satisfied customer. i beat and beat on that took with a hammer... would not release. ordered the scaler from amazon. with in 5 seconds of receiving the scaler, wham - lifter was released. thanks for the great videos and lots of great info.
Thanks a lot for the kit and it was great chatting with you! Solid product and great guy! Worked great!
Man I can’t thank you enough, your tool did the trick about five hits with a hammer sent the pushrod flying. The motor sounds great now. I couldn’t be happier. 👍😁
Did you replace the valve cover gasket or just reuse it?
