    The 560S actually achieves what Sennheiser say their goal was with this model: studio work compatible neutrality, clean, extended bass and resolution.

      @@synaesthesia2010 Not sure what you mean by flat in this case. If it's flat down to say 30-35 Hz that means it goes deep enough but without any bloom in the upper bass which would add some weight and slam.

      @@synaesthesia2010 the bass you put in is the bass you get out. listening to music for fun is not advised with these, for mixing & mastering i'm finding them amazingly revealing.

    These with dekoni leather pads are incredible, especially from a tuning standpoint. I’d take them with the aftermarket pads over the 6xx every day.
    I’ve always been a heavy music listener, and I’ve been on a headphone journey all year trying all kinds of stuff from budget to sub 1k stuff, and these are what I’m sticking with. Stock: they are on the cold side of neutral, and can come across a little sibilant and shouty for sure, mids are super balanced, and bass is lean but very well extended and linear. I really enjoyed it stock, but then.. With the pad swap, it becomes along the lines of my preferred tuning. Bass gets a bump, without getting muddy or loose, mids warm up a little, but remain pretty linear, and the peaks in the highs are reduced just enough, or balanced out by the bass increase. I also find the dekoni pads to be super comfortable. The only drawback is soundstage and separation - I still find both to be good, but are reduced as one would expect. 10/10 recommend this combo for the price.
    I think this combo out punches the Sundara at being a “complete” tuning/package - my opinion. To me, the Sundara’s upper mid dip doesn’t present things like piano well, and I’d argue it’s soundstage is less balanced/full (common characteristic for planars perhaps - it’s bigger, more out-of-head, but not tall or appropriately filled in).
    Cheers cheapaudioman!

      I need to try those ear pads out. I thought it leaned a bit cool as well and what your describing would take these to a different level.

      @@cheapaudioman I’m no “expert”, but they did the trick for me, balancing “fun” and “reference” how I’d personally want it.
      They are not labeled as being a replacement for the 560s, but they had the oval mounting ring and I had zero issues swapping between sets a few times.

    • @TF2ReplayMaker
      @TF2ReplayMaker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As someone who is treble sensitive I've steered clear of these headphones due to all the reports of excessive sibilance. Does this mod completely eliminate the problem without reducing the soundstage too much? and would you say these are the best open back under $250?

    • @quincyfreeman2901
      @quincyfreeman2901 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TF2ReplayMaker both those topics are highly subjective and relative. That said, as an all-rounder with the pads it’s my favorite so far under $350. Sundara has certain strengths over it for sure, but I think the 560s tonal balance is better, despite some highs edginess.
      Treble sensitivity… This generally requires a lot more context to fully answer, but I would say the mod does NOT completely eliminate the edge. For those that are especially treble sensitive, I’d pass on them, or try them out at a store or under a good return policy. Also, consider learning to EQ - it’s not the sin some people make it out to be. I’ll provide some context from my experiences for comparison of highs.
      Sundara was basically perfect, HE-X4&HE400SE were a tad sharp or sibilant at times, DT 770 is enjoyable but a bit peaky and sharp (not so much on the lower treble though), focals I’ve tried have been a tad recessed, AEON RT closed with 1-notch filters seemed more boosted in the upper highs but never irritating.
      To me, stock was a tad off putting on occasion. It seems to be primarily 2 peaks that are just a couple db emphasized, around 3-5k and 6-8k.
      For me, a “neutral” tuning with a drizzle of Mike’s hot honey and some thick sliced bacon is all I want (I.e. present, borderline spicy highs with a well extended bass and non-recessed mids).

      I haven't heard these. But I have heard 6XX and 58X from Drop. I think the 6XX sound terrible. They are so dark and muddy. But the 58X sound great! Very clearly and enjoyable. Yes, I used decent supporting equipment in both cases.
      HD590 were my first decent phones, back in the day. So I respect the budget Sennheiser stuff. Now I'm an Audeze man though.

    The plastic build quality is just fine. I've had the Senn HD 590s since the early-mid 2000s. Also have the Senn HD 598, similar build quality to 590 and looks like the 560, still fine. Incredibly light and comfy, so wear and forget. Mine have survived, so the build quality should really be described as great. Not for walking around, or jogging, or kickboxing, but who would do that?
    My two headphones sound like the verbal description of the 560. Love 'em. Picked both of mine up on Black Fri for $100; half off at the time. Good timing to buy maybe?

    I remember back in the late 90's Sennheiser had a $300 headphone, the 595, that didn't sell well. They glued a thin piece of foam to the inside of the baffles and re-branded it the 555. It was the early days of the internet but I found a forum that explained how to remove the foam, and my pseudo-595 with my HTOmega Claro+ was my endgame for years.

    These are easily the best headphones I've used to date. As he said the separation is absolutely phenomenal and I have listened or should I say relistened to Moving Pictures by Rush and heard things with these headphones that I never heard before. The bass and drums had incredible punch and definition. I could honestly hear several layers that I never noticed before. It is true they do need some power, but that is easily solved if necessary. This would probably be the most significant investment could ever make in your home listening pleasure for under $200

It made me wish that there was a youtube channel devoted to reviewing audio equipment for people who did a significant amount of their listening time while walking their dogs in the arctic woods at night. but then I realized there probably was, but it would be in Finnish, and be spoken in that Black Metal voice and subtitled in a font that looked like spools of razor wire...

    These are a great headphone - bought them earlier in the year. But, I sold them and got the HD600. The HD560s is indeed a relatively neutral sounding headphone, but for me it just had a little too much treble lift at times to be perfect. It is very, very good, but I think the HD600 is better - more neutral, with no treble lift and for me a much more refined sound signature - and I have used a range of amps and dacs listening to both of these. You really can't go wrong with either, but my preference was for the HD600.

And I have nothing too much like critics on the FR but the replay is quite mediocre on sound stage. That is why I find them not relevant vs decent iems. A couple of weeks ago I aquired HD700 and I can say that this is the hybrid between 6-series and HD800s - I got the marvelous vocals of the 6-series and the spaciousness of HD800s (squizzed to a more realistic presentation).

      @@nikolaygramchev HD700 has an uncomfortable treble response for me and I'm not a huge soundstage person. What matters to me is warm sound with great midrange and vocals. We all have different preferences. Also the HD600 and 6XX can be had for very cheap compared to the 700 and 800 headphones. The thing about sound is that its completely subjective. Some people love ATHM50X and think they're spectacular, for example. To me they feel like my ears are getting stabbed with treble knives. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

    For all of you who finds the 560s as: a bit too sharp in the top end / a bit too cold as whole / to less bassy... Try is with 598 CS pads. The difference is HUGE - those pads smoothes out the treble, gives real strong bass, and change the tonality more towards analog than digital side. Also the stage has improved in depth. Incredible difference. I've read about it from some polish reviewer and it all was true. The only thing that can be considered as downside is that vocals would not be as close as the were before.

    I've always liked Sennheiser's HD series headphones, even some of the lower tier like the 202. Those are perfectly fine to buy several pair for clients to use while tracking, they can beat them up and be easily replaced and the headphones are pretty much already on their bill anyway.
    While I do love Sennheiser's products... I'd rather have the Audio Technica M40fs, (discontinued but replaced with the M40x) they're a slight bit cheaper and are extremely durable as well as carrying a lot of the same perks as the more expensive Sennheiser models. I have a pair of the AT M40fs that I've owned and used for 20+ years, they just will not die.
    Sennheiser is great and I stand by them but the newer AT M40 series is worth considering for the price point.

    Worthy heaphones for this price with very netural and linear frequency response. But in the same way they differs a lot from typical warm Sennheiser 600 series sound by accented high frequencies. I compare them with 600 models because their level of sound quality is much higher than all other models from entire 500 series even having higher indexes like HD569, HD579 and HD599. For professional use and analytical hearing they are excelent. But for regular music appreciation it may be not so good beause listening of low quality records may be painful. Source will also impact a lot. Modern DACs and amplifiers with their excelent measurements and netural sound are not good pair for it. Something dark will suit better. When you will try HD560S first impression will be definaletely "Wow, how can below 200 USD headphone sound at this high level?", but after some time they may become boring due to their neutrality. I guess Sennheiser has good competitor in their lineup and it is HD 58X JUBILEE, they are not whidely available but also easy to drive and more fun. Cannot say nothing bad about HD 560S but it is very important to listen it before buying and better on your own gear. By the way thanks for great review!

      I love my 560s. Absolutely brilliant. I have hd600, hd580 precision, and hd650 to listen to as well. The 560s have lovely flat extended bass and the treble is just about right. They have threatened to hurt me with the highs.. but never have (only on bad quality mix's). My 580's would never hurt me as they are soooo layed back lol. The 560s have basically forced me to listen to high quality music only with them.... which I think is fine. Very detailed and balanced headphone. I love the analytical side of listening and these smash it out of the park, especially for the £160 I paid. Great for gaming btw. I know precisely where the guy is coming from in a first person shooter scenario. I power the 560s from hybrid tube and solid state. I also have the xduoo mt602 (classA hybrid) with some western electric 403A tubes in. The hybrid tube amps soften the treble and thus make the 560s a joy to listen to. If I want pin point honesty... I just plug into the solid state. Thanks for a lovely review Andy. Xx
