      I have a Canon 5d3 as well (I believe you said that’s what you filmed with).
      I’m looking to start doing TH-cam videos - I plan to film from overhead onto a countertop as I do some drawings.
      I was thinking of getting the Canon R5 or R6, but really prefer to hold off on mirrorless, until technology gets better (ie overheating, issues with image - dark/ black colors), and when more lenses have been released. Battery life is also a concern.
      Should I just get another 5d3, or maybe a 5d4 - or would you get an R5/R6?
      I mostly do photography (almost exclusively): night sky (Milky Way), architecture (interior/ exterior), street, portraits, macro.
      Thanks for your help.
      Really enjoyed your video.

    “THERE IS NO PERFECT CAMERA!” Someone finally said it. There will always be people who think something is bad when everyone else thinks it’s good, and vice versa. YOU have to pick the camera that is right for YOU. I love my EOS R but I also love my 90D. They’re both great at a lot of things but my eos R absolutely crushes it.

    As a working Photographer (forgetting 2020-2021) I went from the 5D Mk III to the EOS R. I did this because the 20mp of the R6 is a dealbreaker, I like the ability to crop hard and the R5 is just too expensive given I don't need the extreme focus capabilities. Also, I never shoot video so this camera makes a lot of sense. I found it for £1400 *including* the Canon EF adapter. A great deal that allowed me to buy extra batteries and still have change for a 70-200 2.8 Mk II. A lens I used to hire all the time.
    It to me is almost like a continuation of the 5D series into mirrorless, and I definitely feel the refinements at a very reasonable price.

    You can set up any of the top buttons to change from evf to the screen!!! I set up the lcd light button in mine since I rarely light up the top lcd!!
    The one problem I have with my R is that when you try to move the focus points with the dpad they move veeeery slowly.. thats the only con I have...and yes I know you can move the point by touching the screen and its faster I just dont like that feature...

      The not existing totary controller but 5 button concept of the EOS R is great to put some extra functions to direct access.
      My left of those is EVF off (standard configuration auto-switch between both displays)

    Hey, need advice here for IG content creator.
    Most hard highlight shot are low light live band peformance in night.
    My target "IG LIVE REPORT" work flow is:
    Shoot photo (jpg) / video (format not know) -> download to phone -> give watermark on phone apps -> upload to IG.
    My concern are with video content part to my targeted workflow.
    My eyes are lock into Canon R + canon 35mm F1.4, cuz it is in my budget range.
    But i dont want make mistake for my big investment here 😅.
    I consider about sony a7 iii, but i afraid i still need added colour corection in pc or phone apps to my work flow. Or its just my unreasonable doubt.
    And i already see different Content creator achieve that workflow using fujifilm xt 10 or XS 10 i forgot the series.
    Damn im confused. I dont want to all rounded perfect camera but i want it fulfill my needs, if you know im saying.

    You get really good video quality from the 5D 3! That's one of the reasons I got the EOS R - using a 5D3 and 80D on a gimbal just didn't cut it. My image quality was just not good enough (and I have shot hundreds of hours of video on 5D3). Just bought the EOS R and it has exceeded my exceptions on autofocus and image quality - terrific gimbal cam and "B" cam to my C100 M2

    • @albertthoughts
      @albertthoughts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1080 definitely isn’t bad when upscaled unless you zoom in, but that’s basically the case for 4K too, we wouldn’t really zoom unless we do cropping. Since the 5D doesn’t have Log, I usually shoot wide open with around ISO400 depending on lighting, there’s no dual pixel autofocus so I manually focus with a shutter release first if I’m filming myself, I find it pretty useful. Other than that, I rely heavily on the EV scale to see my exposure at times because the screen can get a bit dim in harsh lighting

    Thank you. I also think the R is a better crossover b/w R5 & R/6. The R6 is not really an upgrade considering what I do. For instance, I do a lot of editing for the stills. I like the 30mp over the 20mp for heavy cosmetics. I broke the bank by selling all my lenses for 15-35 RF (w/IS); I don't mind the 4k crop w/this lens. If I need the extra distance, I can always reach "65" focal length thx to the crop feature. Yes, I'm looking at a half full! To me, IBIS & Dual card cannot compensate extra $700 on the R6 over the R. Not to mention, there is no All-I on the R6! I like R5, but scaling at $3.9k, it's not worthy. I suppose you're paying for the video component, but until Canon can fix the heating issue, I'm going to wait for the major price cut or don't mind waiting for a few more years (R1? R2? R3? R4?) with my current R.

    • @albertthoughts

    • @albertthoughts
      @albertthoughts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you, definitely planning on doing a video on video editing! the R is simply an amazing camera overall. I do have both. IBIS is a bit constrained because its not a full 8 stops on all lenses but it works magically when it does. If you shoot video, just keep in mind the R6 files will be a lot bigger and bulkier to edit (since its 4:2:2 10-bit) so may need to transcode. If you're shooting photo, other than sports, I think the R has amazing quality / bang for buck.

    • @coconuthair

      @@albertthoughts what do you mean the R6 is a bit constraint? You should compare the R6 to R for night time photography hand-held.

    I want to add something on the battery and EVF. If you use EF lens with IS the IS is always active as soon as you on the camera that will drain the battery even faster. EVF is lagging big time when you shoot sport or wildlife which I hate the most. I have used many mirrorless cameras, none of them have this issue.

    The video quality on your 5D3 looks amazing!
    I just got a response from you regarding the R/R6/R5, but seeing this video makes me think my 5D3 might work great for TH-cam videos (I’m going to film over the counter crafts/ painting mounted on a tripod).
    If that is going to be the extent of my video usage, do you see a need for an R5?
    I thought the 4K fullframe with higher framerate was beneficial/ necessary, but your video looks great.
    Should I just get another 5D3 or 5D4 for vlogging?
    Did you modify anything on your 5D3 camera to get a higher quality (ie 4k?)?
    I greatly appreciate your insight.
    I’m enjoying your videos!

    • @albertthoughts
      @albertthoughts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I do think the 5diii does the video quality really well (I used the 1080p setting) but to be honest the sensor and processor can do waaaay more than what Canon allows - this is why a lot of people mod it with MagicLatern to enable 12-bit 4K RAW (though be extra careful cuz it might break your device). I would probably not use the 5D for vlogging since it is a very heavy camera, if you can find a cheap price for an RP, (although it also has 4K crop), that might be a good bet!

  • @HeadlessChickenTO
    @HeadlessChickenTO 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The EVF doesn't turn off? Really?
    I have the M50 and there's a sensor by the EVF that detects if your face is up against it, which turns the LCD off and the EVF on and vis versa. And I know the R has that same sensor so maybe it's somewhere in your settings?
    That said, I'm conflicted about getting the R. I originally was thinking of going with the RP but it's just too crippled IMO, and the R suffers some of the same curses like the crop factor in 4K plus the loss of DPAF. Now I pretty much exclusively shoot in 1080 anyways because my computer is pretty slow at processing 4K, but the extra features of the R6 is really appealing to me to make that bigger jump. I could use IBIS, I'd love to keep DPAF In 4K, not to mention it's gen2 AF, 20fps burst mode vs 12, 120fps in FHD...But other than the budget (being 70% more expensive then the R), the R6 being only 20.2mp are my main arguments to not go that route...hence my conflict.
    My M50 serves me nicely, but I do want to go full frame.

    Do you think it would be worth the price tag?

      definitely a good value! if that one doesn't go through, canon's refurbished section has them for around $1200 sometimes!

      definitely get something wide open like the f/2.8 15-35mm, I used a tokina 11-16mn f/2.8 while a good lens I don't recommend it for full frame as the sides can fall off in sharpness wide open.

      I would say that is rather hard to get the whole sky. I use a separate wider angle to capture this! I used to use a 11-16mm Tokina @16mm since it's for apsc but since then been using the 16-35mm iii EF. if you have the budget, definitely check out the 15-35mm RF (amzn.to/3iL5AVu)

    I have the EOS R & it’s perfect. It’s no cons for me if you want amazing specs for videos then just buy the A7iii problem solved.

    A big mistake in waste of money. You can go Soni A7 iii you get toomuch featchure at the same money. You save money more than 1.5 lakhs₹ and happy. This has just a tilted viewscreen only but more money .
