      Jordan, Geoff Meggs and Kathleen Monk tend to spin NDP political points rather than engage with on the ground facts. Don't agree with Reid most of the time but at least he is honest about the Liberal Party.

    I think Jordan is very nice and clearly very intelligent and a kind and beautiful person and awesome mother. However Kory is right, she is talking BS when it comes to the NDP. All types of people interested in politics watch this podcast because you offer clear-headed, strategic thinking. Scott is very clear about his personal political leanings, but he is able to think and strategize in a clear-headed way, and the same is true of Kory. That is not the case with Jordan. Perhaps she needs to take a page from Jenni's book and go work for the NDP if she believes in them so fervently that she can't think clearly. I was involved in an NDP riding association during the leadership race that Jagmeet Singh won. I left soon after (and I was not alone). Jagmeet Singh did a takeover of the federal NDP and has completely ruined it. The current numbers won't hold because he will make a complete ass of himself during the election campaign. The Conservatives won't need to make a laughing stock of the NDP, Singh will do it for them, with his ridiculous attacks on grocery CEOs and all the other nonsense. In his desperation to get the left-woke vote (because that's all he can hope for) he will probably be sporting a keffiyeh on the campaign trail. Whatever it takes to keep him in Rolexes and fancy bags--nothing is too low for that hypocrite. If he ends up delaying his election until he gets his pension, he will pay for it in humiliation. I cannot wait to see what sort of dance he does when he loses his seat. The NDP will end up in fourth place, with a seatless leader. I really hope that when that happens I will be able to watch Curse of Politics without having to watch the rest of you roll your eyes/shift your gaze during a magical thinking speech by Jordan, who belongs inside an NDP campaign team, not on this show. Sorry to be harsh, but Kory inspired me.

      @Niko-iv4ch ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I think many have lost faith in social programs on the realization that they are expensive and have problems actually delivering.
      In theory programs work great, in reality we are all learning that they can not work as advertised.
      Let's not forget not too long ago, the solution to housing was to build more affordable houses via social programs. Poilievre has flipped the script, and now unleashing free enterprise is commonly accepted as the solution.

    If, as Kory says, “there are so many other climate policies on display in other countries who are doing better at meeting their climate change targets”, then why aren’t the Conservative premiers opting to implement those policies as an alternative to the carbon tax? When the Liberals brought in the carbon tax JT clearly told the premiers that if they had a viable alternative plan they could go with that but doing nothing was not an option. All I’ve heard from Pierre Pollievre is he wants to “axe the tax”. What is his plan after cutting the tax? And, BTW, can PP guarantee that companies will drop their prices so as to eliminate the full cost of the carbon tax on their products and services or will they take the opportunity to take some of that to increase profits?

    • @Niko-iv4ch
      @Niko-iv4ch ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      It is a fair question. Provinces would submit their GHG emission reduction plans and the Feds would either okay it or implement their own backstop. The backstop being the Carbon tax.
      What I have a hard time reconciling with the constitutionality of this back stop, is that the Federal Government arbitrarily approves or doesn't approve a provinces GHG reduction plan. So the Carbon Tax backstop is being arbitrarily applied, as evidenced by the home heating oil exemption.
      Early on, the Atlantic provinces were spared the carbon tax as somehow their lack of a plan counted as an acceptable plan. And as their terrible GHG reduction plans were so bad, that the Back Stop was finally implemented, was the beginning of the Liberals disapproval in Atlantic Canada.
      Now one area Canada can force Carbon Tax removal to be passed down on to consumers is in the dairy industry. Because of supply management, we have the highest dairy prices. But those prices are mandated by the federal government. (It is ironic that Jagmeet Singh says if the Grocers don't lower prices, they will have a Government Panel to sets prices, when the only government panel that does set prices has the highest prices globally for the products in question.)

    The Conservatives do not need to bend over backwards for the Quebec vote. Scott's idea is a good one, but Quebecers will soon check the wind direction, note the Liberals are going down with all hands still chained to the oars. They will also recognize Le Bloc will NOT form government for the next few terms and the Conservatives WILL and with a sizeable majority. Quebecers have an uncanny, often annoying(to the rest of Canada), ability/habit of jumping on board the winning party's train.....for preferential treatment.

    I do cut Jordan slack. I am a conservative these days, but I think the NDP had a great story coming out of the recent by-elections.
    The NDP are ahead of the Liberals outside of Quebec. And they are on the verge of being the Natural Official opposition of Canada, as Liberals may disappear after next election.
    I do think Jagmeet is a very weak leader and if he was removed from the equation, the NDP would fair better.
    But things are going better for the dippers these days then they have been ever since Singh became leader.

There is only so much a federal gov't can do. Why do we kid ourselves that we aren't at the whim of global markets? Folks, let’s not forget that we’ve read this book before. The current PM has had about 10 years in office and Canadians have grown tired of them. Remember the popularity of Trudeau Sr., Mulroney, Chrétien, and Harper at the end of their terms (and I would add Mike Harris in Ontario, in contrast to Bill Davis). In the next federal election the Liberals will be fighting to avoid the same fate as the Mulroney/Kim Campbell PCs. Will we see the BQ as the official opposition again because if Quebec doesn’t vote Liberal or NDP they’ll be going with the BQ.
