Greetings, you curiouser and curiouser Herle Burly-ites! Starting with a programming announcement of sorts: Over the next number of weeks … your moderately attractive and issues-oriented friends at Air Quotes Media pledge to bring you deep coverage of our current provincial elections. Our sister pod - Hotel Pacifico - has now gone daily to cover every square inch of political ground in B.C. Give a listen to Mike, Kate and Geoff … they’re quite amazing. The political panel on Curse of Politics will weigh in on stuff whenever its politically relevant. And over here on The Herle Burly, we’ll do some deep conversation on the other races in play - Saskatchewan and New Brunswick. And maybe, just maybe, Ontario???
Today … it’s Saskatchewan! Writ drops any day now. Here to set the scene along with this boy from Prelate … 1 other son of the prairies - Conservative strategist and campaign manager, the aforementioned Kory Teneycke… and a man who, although born and raised in Quebec, had a major impact on Saskatchewan politics as Deputy Chief of Staff to NDP Premier Roy Romanow, Brian Topp.
The three of us are going to take stock of the 2 major parties heading into their campaigns: Scott
Moe’s Saskatchewan Party, and Carla Beck’s NDP.
Where are they currently? What are their strategies to win and what does a path to victory look like? What are the central issues to voters? And what role will the marginal parties play in all of this?

Just do opposite what Brian Topp recommends. This guy advised Rachel Notley to take 75 billion debt and introduce carbon tax while increasing provincial government bureaucracy by 33%
here in Alberta. We are still recovering from that disaster.

Oh wow I didn’t realize he as responsible for that blunder. Hearing how partisan he is without any self reflection it’s not surprising.

Brian is delusional just like most NDP members.
NDP stands for me” no development party”

My prediction is the ndp will win 7 to 9 seats in Saskatoon, 8 to 11 seats in Regina and three to five seats outside of the two cities which include the two northern ridings… the saskparty should win the rest of ridings. If the Sask United party does well they could maybe win a couple seats.

One of the best shows ever. I have met three of the previous Premiers, four if you count a recent event where an ex Premier mused aloud to about 40 of us and only wished I could have met Wall, but Moe has reached his best before date….hence so many urban cabinet Ministers not running again well it was 2021 when I figured out Moe was in over his head. I would say some new senior public servants who can work with Ottawa should be fall hires or some SK DM’s need a secondment in to federal public service as a Director Generals to retool and come back to the DM posts.

    Carla Becks a joke.
No one will vote for ndp in Sask due to the fact the of Jagmeet Sighn. And comparing wab kinew to Carla back is so far fetched. People remember what the ndp did to this province and we seen the disaster that the ndp did in Alberta. I don’t know anyone voting ndp. I’m not sure these guys talk to working class people. The large cities vote ndp just because of the unions. I’m not sure where Brian is getting his info. Because l haven’t heard of anything good for the ndp. Moe is still lesser of the two evils one would say. The guy said it right the “communist right” is so dead on for some strange reason Saskatchewan has somehow made communism work. Hate to say it but very true!
    Cheers

Party leadership on federal and provincial levels matters. For example, the ND's shot themselves in both feet with confidence when they allowed Nenshi to win the leadership. Can't speak to the ND leader in Saskatchewan, but Moe is a known entity.

preaching the environment to farmers and ranchers who for 3 or 4 generations have ranched and farmed on a sustainable basis, is a sure fired way to lose. Big city environmentalists acting like parrots squacking some bs out of text book need to be ignored.

I'm not trying to be mean spirited, but every time I hear Topp I conclude Singh was the better choice (and I'm not a fan of how Singh has performed). Brian doesn't naturally project. He's a backroom guy for sure. Kory would be far more natural on the doorstep. David would be great in the bar.

I cannot vote for any leader that believes they are above the law and have a right to choose which laws they will adhere to & which not. We are a country of law. That’s why our country functions well. But if leaders only follow the laws they choose to then why can’t citizens. It is a slippery slope for leaders to set such a terrible example. And for what? According to economists most people get more back in rebates than they pay out. I am not surprised at Moe for following PP disinformation. But I am very disappointed in Beck. I cannot vote for any leader who thinks they are above the law and can chose which laws they follow

Rural Saskatchewan via the SP has held unchecked, majority power for 17 years. The cities don't tell rural SK what to do. Talk about politics of grievance & victimhood when you're on track to hold majority power for 22 years? *Humboldt coffee row* has more political influence over matters of health, agriculture, oil and pro-noun policy than the cities do.

I live in Regina. I will be voting saskparty for the first time in my life. Because of the brave stand Moe made to support families in the school system. Keep our children safe from ideologies that lead to lifetime mental and physical health problems. Do not take Regina for granted NDP.

The Sask Party is left of centre which makes it very difficult for woke urban ND's.
