With such intelligent and dedicated people behind it, it's a goddamn sin that this channel died. I really hope it will come back once death stranding is released.
Make sure to check out Bobvids and Voidburger, their original channels. Burger's been doing high-effort Silent Hill LPs since like 2008 as well as other great stuff, and Bob does lots of gaming stuff on top of making a name for himself by tearing into Cinemasins. They also have a Rifftrax file for the first Silent Hill movie that's pretty good.
P.T. A mixture of a unfinished game and Hideo Kojima thoughts about his finals days as Metal Gears Director. He was the Dad who was forced to Kill his baby..Konami wanted to go another way.. He did.. They gave him other properties to play with but he kept Missing his baby after it was gone.. He spent the final moments. Drinking, Chain smoking doin all kinds of shit while his fate lie in Konami (The other man) hands.. Lisa is a tradition Japanese horror ghost.. I forgot what ghost she is but her aborted baby is THE NEW SILENT HILL Which became "Death Standing" I'm just trying to delve In the mind of a Japanese hint dropper delivering a crypt message about his fate.. The fact the hallway is a maze spiraling down into a hellish decent is the halls of Konami lol
Kojima has been critical of america in the metal gear solid series and I think silent hills was intended to be in part a critique on american society. The radio reporter speculates that these men are killing their families due to social issues like the higher cost of living and these men are implied to be laid off blue collar workers. At one point when you look into the bathroom through the hole you can hear the radio when its possessed by the angrier sounding voice who says "nows the time to act! our society is rotten to the core! I'm talking to all the fine outstanding folks out there who got their jobs pulled out from under them. Yes you! You know what to do! Do it!" This sounds a lot like something you would hear from conservative talk radio shows such as the rush limbaugh show or the alex jones show both of which are popular among people in blue collar professions who feel they've been let down by the system and those shows let them focus their anger on something that they feel has caused them wrong and that they feel they can destroy such as the central government. This parallels how the radio voice convinces the fathers in P.T to murder their families who they feel are the source of their problems. I think the point of this was to critique the ways that americans misdirect their anger and resentment. I'm sure their would have been more stuff like this in the full game.
If anything, Silent Hills, plural, implies that the game would focus on many people's Silent Hill experience. Like how in PT it's a mish mash of all the murderers and all that fun stuff, and they may or may not have anything to do with you. GUESS WE'LL NEVER KNOW. HOORAY.
Jareth? Like David Bowie's character in Labyrinth? And David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World" is important to MGSV. Was this all just a massive work by kojima?
+The4thSnake Labyrinth as in the movie where a person goes looking for a loved one in a pocket dimension and attracting the attention of a supernatural puppeteer and never really escaping their grasp all the while opening a door that never really closes labyrinth?
Something i noticed about the photos in the hallway is that they change (obviously) but one is more remarkeble than the others. There's one photo of a man taken from the seventies. He has this faint smile. But when you collect all the photo pieces of Lisa his expression changes to a frown. The wierdest part is that this effect does not reset even if you delete your save file of the game or complete the game. It's very chilling. If you don't know what picture i'm talking about it's the one next to the phone, it's a man in his thirties wearing a suit and the photo is taken from a portrait angle. Yeah spooky. "Grate" podcast btw
1:20:50 That idea that men kill their families because they can't provide for them could have a Japanese counterpart - mothers that commit suicide with their children. Apparently mothers that take their lives rarely leave behind their children, their reasoning is supposed to be that no one else could take care of them once the mother is dead, or maybe the connection between mother and child is too strong to sever. I'm not sure if that's a thing in PT, but it's an interesting parallel between two cultures. It might be a masculine thing in one, but femminine in the other.
Oh just wanted to share, in case you missed it: Metal gear solid 5 easter egg on hearing the radio from P.T. I was soooo shocked when I heard the radio. it's located on mission 20 called "voices" , it's located on the last tent before reaching the tunnel. If you listen carefully, you can either get the silent hills audio or radio broadcast of the murders. I was so excited to find it, but sad at the same time cause of the cancellation. IGN shared the easter egg on their channel. So odd about this mission, it deals about voices, which sort of relates to P.T. I don't want to spoil it, so it's best to play the mission to get the whole idea on the relation of these 2 topics. I know that the grate debate has shared that the murders happened in the 80's (can't quite recall) and on MGS5, it takes place in 1984.
Man, this channel and your videos more than anything made my heart break when I heard that Silent Hills is not going to happen. I was so excited about this channel. You should continue doing this sort of thing for other games of the series, despite the death of Silent Hills. I just love these podcasts. Do something, guys. Please continue making content this cool.
New finding guys. Last night, July 26 2015, at the jumpscare loop, i intensed to not gouge her eye out, then i turned around, Lisa killed me. Then i woke up in the concrete room, i walked backward to the door to go back to the endless hallway, i saw her stand in the middle of the concrete room looking at me. SPOOKY.
You know how the voice on the radio says "You can't trust the tap water."? To me, that made me think of the fetus in the sink. I know there's no water coming out of the sink tap or anything, but if there was, the water would fall into the basin, where the fetus is. So maybe the "tap water" is the fetus in a weird, twisted, mystery/symbolic manner? You can't trust the fetus, you can't trust what he says in that what exactly he tells you is true. I think I'm reaching too much, but it's just a thought.
Nick D'Andrea interesting. I was thinking it's like what a paranoid person thinks / the government is poisoning the tap water! But that's an interesting take
...if tap water came out it would DROWN OUT the fetus so then surely it would mean the opposite of what you said!? DONT use the taps the fetus is trying to guide you and turning the taps on would kill one of the few sources of genuine help and clues you are getting...
"Are you sure the only you is you" might reference that all father's who kill they're families go to this house and you're playing one of those fathers.
Maybe J is like Walter from Silent Hill 4. He's figured out enough to use Silent Hill's power to get what he wants and it's also what Silent Hill wants.
One thought I had is that if shes putting your gut in the bag then it's your gut telling you how to survive? It would be a clever way to have a tooltip without having a tooltip...
Very soothing to listen to. Like when VoidBurger describes going back to Silent Hill 4 and then regretting it every time, I relate to it in a warm and fuzzy way that I assume is something akin to what it would feel like to have friends.
if 204863 is a bathtub thing, Lance McDonald’s video does show there’s a cut out state for the bathtub, in which Lisa is decapitated. It’s loaded into memory but never used.
I think the ghost's neck movements might hearken back to the idea of a camera being involved. It was even mentioned in this discussion that the movements look "glitchy" and there is the loop involving an obvious glitch. Several photographs are used throughout the gameplay such as in the running loop and gouge it out puzzle. The flashlight colors remind me of those RGB hexadecimal color charts. Maybe various pieces of technology were attempting to communicate with the killer, camera included.
On the 911 thing it was probably intentional, silent hill is foremost a nightmare-scape. Every character ever has had a disturbing 'accidental' speech pattern disruption from strange syncing to weird inconsistent pronunciation. They're probably also safe in assuming that for most of the audience it has catastrophic connotations and for everyone else is well known enough to get you to think something is very wrong and gets you focused on the numbers.
I have a feeling you guys wont make another video because of P.T. getting canceled and all but may I suggest doing videos on symbolism/deep introspection of the older Silent Hill Prime games (1-4). I know it's all been said before and it's hard to really add anything that hasn't been said, but I honestly don't mind and I feel many Silent Hill fans wouldn't mind either. I just really don't want this channel to die tbh, it's really really good and so short lived in my opinion I also need my Silent Hill fix since there is no hope of ever having a decent installment ever again because of Konami. So please, for the hopeless Silent Hill fans, come back?
I feel like I see PT so differently because I was with someone who delved into madness like this. He thought he was being talked to by the TV, by the radio, by the computer. He thought demons were after him. This game gave me the worst kind of chills because it made me relive the hell of living with someone going through psychosis and how well this simulated someone's mind when they go crazy. I had a gun pulled on me twice and he said I wasn't me, I was a demon making demons come out of his phone to possess him. Etc etc. Terrifying stuff. I wonder if the ghost is actually the woman in the pictures. She looks nothing like her. Perhaps she's one of the other wives / mothers killed. It's just all so creepy and my mind is blown by it. And the fact the game was never made and like another user pointed out, it makes it even scarier because we are literally stuck in that hallway forever now. We'll never get out metaphorically.
Imma be honest here, the whole "dick in the bag" thing, I thought that was just Kojima's pun on calling the character, the player plays as, a "dickbag"
I realized while watching this that the table with the mystery pills could actually be a clue that this is a Silent Hill game. It has nods to the first three games. Silent Hill - the jellybeans (which always stood out to me in Nowhere as well as PT) Silent Hill 2 - the pills (in the hospital room with Mary. James doesn't know what the pills are, much like we don't know what those PT pills are) Silent Hill 3 - the pink bunny (a reference to Robby the Rabbit who first appeared in SH3.) Maybe Kojima wanted to put a small clue in the game that paralleled the first 3 "Silent Hills"
Also the phone call you receive is a big nod to the first game as well. There's clues about the PT story, but perhaps there are a second set of clues specifically alluding to the original Silent Hill games, such as the War of Worlds broadcast alluding to the UFO endings
I love you guys, and its stuff like this that makes me even more devastated over us losing Silent Hills. Oh man, I posted this before you said you didn't like SH3. I don't think explaining things is a bad thing--I don't even think it makes things less scary. I think in a lot of ways, if done right, it makes things even *more* disturbing. The cult stuff I think was done well in 1-3, and even a bit in 4. The rest of the games...no. I don't think they understood it. Honestly, though? I feel the cult is a central aspect to Silent Hill. It appears in EVERY one of the original games (less so in 2, but it still echoes in it). I would have loved to see what they could have done going forward in the games, including the cult.
Also the bath tub is supposedly where Lisa was murdered. Plus I had a theory about the glitch scene in the game where if you look at certain objects before it cuts out you'll get a different message, I only tested it out a couple of times and I don't know if I just got the same message by chance, but I looked at the message on the wall and what I kept getting was a huge paragraph with a red background with the phrase "I'm heading there now" (or something like that) in different languages. Like I said maybe I just got lucky so I won't be surprised if I'm wrong.
Chubs the Nerd To our understanding, Lisa was killed in the kitchen with a rifle. Some other woman was killed in the bathroom with a bladed object. And Mr. Boddy was killed in the Billiard Room with the Candlestick! (-VoidBurger)
TheGrateDebate Oh yeah... Well if my PS4 wasn't such a dick in a bag- or rather if it was, I could play P.T. and check my facts all the while revelling in it's spookiness. Also don't bother looking into what I said earlier, you lot have been through enough with this game, I don't want ya'll goin' on a wild goose chase that will most likely result in nothing.
TheGrateDebate Also I think that when Lisa snaps your neck she unzips your jacket and is diggin' through your stomach and eatin' yer guts. It's not much better than castration but it's definitely less cringe worthy than the thought that she's throwing your sentient noodle in a paper bag.
+Chubs the Nerd no worries man.. i saw adult stuff on it... no kidding... probably why it got cancelled well not probably but still that was a bold move for kojima team, theres a lot of things to discover there... and yes, im not crazy, played this game for a week and looked every inch for easter eggs... i wasnt disappointed
+Chubs the Nerd well sure, But the radio says Lisa was shot in the stomach, while the murder we hear taking place in the bathtub as we look through the peep hole sound like a lady being stabbed to death. Maybe Lisa might have been stabbed before or after she was shot, but , i don't really know really. Just a thought.
I believe Silent Hills would have been the player roaming around Silent Hill exploring various murders around the town as well as other crimes related. Possibly a way of making the player recall his memories of what he may have done or will do. Idk
The only thing that makes just a little sense to me about the flashlights is that each time you go through at the end is that it's a separate reality and most of the time you have a normal flashlight but in other realities you have different color flashlight or no flashlight. Idk
Also the recent news that they want to do more even if it isn't silent hills is cool...especially thinking about the symbolism which is in PT but not the concept video.
About the Viral/ring symbolism - Kojima actually brings up memetics a lot in MGS 2 and MGS 4 so it is very much a Kojima influence in the game - turning the idea of a mind virus into a horror trope is something I can easily see him do.
I watched a video on a guy's theory about the cancelation, one of the points across was that companies like Konami would never just ditch an opportunity where you were guaranteed to make massive amounts of money...
I don't have a solid analysis of why the War of the Worlds message is in Swedish, but it's worth noting that Kojima has made references to Sweden a couple of times before. Most notably, he announced The Phantom Pain by pretending to be a Swedish indie developer called Joakim Mogren (see what he did there?).
Do we actually know who voiced the fetus/radio guy? The trailer didn't have credits. It'd be nice to at least find out so we can give him props. Reminds me a little of Cecil Baldwin.
The Zero "oh" thing is actually common where I used to live in England. My number code used to be pronounced "oh-one-oh..." it just sped up conversation. English speakers some times also murg phone numbers like "911" To "9-11" at least I've heard that a few times, so I think it's just a dialect thing.
There's another family that got massacred on the SIlent Hill Downpour, there's a quest on Silent Hill Downpour "The Gramophone" that tells a story about a father who murders their two children and his wife, but the quest only shows the final moments when he chop his wife with an Axe
Another thing, why IS the apartment easter egg bad? I know you explained it, but it's optional and hidden. Not like the other callbacks like putting the cult back in and dressing them up like in the movie. It's an easter egg/ call back for fans without any impact on the story of Downpour. I found it nice to see the apartment in HD, since SH 4 gets so much hate.
It's been awhile since I watched the movie Eraser Head, but I believe the fetis looks the same as the one in P.T. Also I believe it talks in the movie as well. Anyway, something to check out to find possible influences.
Guys, I put P.T on just to see if it still worked after I played it to death when it first came out and during the final puzzle I had something happen that I'd never had happened before. The witching sound and banging sounds have all gone, have not come back and all I hear is HEAVY BREATHING THAT SOUNDS LIKE ITS COMING FROM BEHIND YOU ALL THE TIME mixed with a baby giggling. Since then it's given me a reason to wonder around PT's halls again. When I walk I hear another person stepping behind me while I walk. I stood still at the radio and there was an evil voice in another language. I stood next to the phone for ages while listening to your previous videos and when I moved the controller again a message came up again in another language. These could all be things you've already found but I have never seen anyone talk about the constant breathing and baby mesh with the witching sound completely gone? The way I did it: I went to the photo and r stick read it. I had the idea to look at the picture. Because it says "my voice can you hear it" I waited until I could hear Lisa's voice then read the picture because it say's "this sign can you read it?" Then I went to the bathroom to find Lisa in the mirror because it says "I'll wait forever if you'll just come to me" I did all of this before the witching sounds ended. Then looked at the fetus in the sink and then the breathing happened and the baby giggled but not in the triggering one of the baby laughs to complete the puzzle it was a different laugh and now as I've said it is constant breathing and now different messages are coming up after I look at things for a while without moving. These could be messages you all have deciphered already but who knows? They could not be. They could be different. I think it's worth you guys investigating. As I have been writing this I have been staring at the picture of Lisa in game. Another message in a different language came up. PLEASE EXPLORE THIS! A fan
I don't know how you guys talked about all the eye stuff without talking about Freud. P.T. is laced with Freudian references from the eye (the uncanny; fear of castration) to the fact that Lisa literally castrates the player to Jay wanting to kill his dad (oedipus). I'm sure there are lots more Freudian symbols in P.T. and the rest of the series as well. Freud was a nutcase but damn if he's not influential.
Oh, speaking of the Proof of Concept video and the actual teaser, there's a voice at the end of the concept video that's the same as the voice on the radio. If you listen closely, it says 204863. I can't help but wonder if the Concept video may have been a precursor, a midway a gateway to the real world and this dreamworld if the multiple levels theory was correct. Because the teaser revolves around family, maybe the concept video would have been used in that manner if it was a school, where public and private lives collide. Anyway, just something that I had to get out of my mind. I know we'll never know at this point, but the thought is interesting.
At 1:55:00, I noticed that the pills are very close to a lot of candy, wich could be a metaphor, that these pills are literally swallowed like candy, wich would also explain why there are so many empty packages of them. I also think it might be possible (and I actually assumed that until you brought up the pregancy thing), that these pills where for/from a husband, who killed himself with an overdose of maybe sleeping pills. That would also match the metaphor as I described above and I think that would also tie in nicely to your story of PT video, wich describes that there are 3 fathers in total, one hanging himself, one listening to radio in the garage and one we don't really know much about, if I it recall right. Very great work with this podcast anyway! And now that Silent Hills is, well, dead, will the channel still continue with maybe generally Silent Hill toppics or something completely different?
I have an interesting theory as well, to springboard off Norman being a creation of Silent Hill. Maybe Norman IS J. Think about it: Silent Hill isn't exactly random with its victims, as it often tends to be a method of punishment, as seen with James in SH2. Maybe you were to play as the Father, and Norman Reetus is the body that J would have become if he was not killed. Only problem is that J isn't voiced by Norman (at least I think he isn't), so it's a stretch. Still fun to think about
I don't think anything supernatural happens when you're going through the flashlight colors which might imply you're not Lisa's target in this segment and seeing the same hallway scene in different lights might represent a neutral perspective.
Actually and weeaboos correct me if I'm wrong, I believe the weird layout of the house with it being all in a square and all these rooms are lining that square, is the layout of a traditional Japanese house. The missing stuff such as kit hen would most likely be in the middle of the "spiral"
+Chezmix Its strange you say Spiral... we now know Junji Itou worked/was going to work in the game. His most recognizable work is Uzumaki (Spiral), which is a great read and about a town cursed by spirals.
My thought re: the cockroaches is to link them to J (or at least the evil radio voice). I think it's fairly clear that the voice seems to look down on people from the way he talks about his mother and father, and I tend to think of the cockroaches as being how he might see people; as bugs, fucking and eating and living in the garbage. Also I kind of like the idea of J. having some kind of control over the town. The concept of someone having any kind of control over something like the town isn't unprecedented, and while Alessa had crazy cult stuff going on, I don't think it's too big a stretch for a particularly "damaged" spirit to have some influence.
The mention of ten months could relate to both the pregnancy and the steps? If each step represents one of the ten months of pregnancy, the last one would represent the time of birth and that's when you hear the child's voice. But I suppose that only complicates things further, as it kind of suggests that the child was born (or survived), which doesn't really fit in? However, those two things in combination do fit nicely into the theme of pregnancy. Really like the Born From A Wish Theory though! Like if the Norman we play as would have a "real" counterpart; his equivalent to Mary.
I had a theory of what if the trailer message was referring to what happened with Kojima and Konami how the ceo fired Kojima, Kojima was getting bored because the ceo would always want a simple cash grabbing game while Kojima was a developer who wanted to make a great game, but guess what he will be back with a new company maybe Sony with his new toys
Dunno if you know this, but it's probably not "Ringu". When it comes to at least Katakana (which is how they wrote the title of the Japanese film and probably the book), when a word ends in -u and sometimes -o (Ringu, Gandamu, Baiohazaado), you sorta disregard that last sound. Since they use a syllabic system, and the only "letters" that are a single "letter" are A, E, I, O, U and N, they use -u and sometimes -o sounds to sorta end the word. So Ringu = Ring, Gandamu = Gundam, Baiohazaado = Biohazard. I mention it because you have it written as Ringu which is like reading the word castle as castee or bite as bitee or The Grate Debate as The Gratee Debatee.
No problem, I try. I dunno why you're so angry, I don't think they're dumb or anything. When the Japanese use katakana to write a non-Japanese word they do it that way to most closely replicate the word's pronunciation.
I know I might be 3 years late, but I wanted to ask you, as the P.T experts- has nobody tried to reverse engineer the code and figure out what the triggers are for the final puzzle? I know that for "The Stanley Parable", for example, there is an achievement that is supposed to be impossible, or completely random, but because some people looked into the code they figured out a way to get it. Couldn't this be done here as well? I know it is more difficult to do on a console than a computer, but probably still possible.
I'm a little late to jump on this train, but I feel like by just watching play-throughs (I never got a chance to play it), that the hallway does get dirtier as you go. At first, it's only the scattered beer cans and the candies and pills on the counter tops. I began to notice more scuffs on the walls and it became more "lived in" looking? Just a slight observation from a bystander :P
I like the idea of the hallway being an amalgam. That said, there were never pictures of me or my school projects in my home growing up. Maybe I live in a spooky house?
I had an idea that maybe Lisa is a separate victim from the one we hear about on the radio, or the one we hear be murdered in the bathroom. I don't see too much definitive proof that Lisa is the mom who was killed with the rifle, other than the mention of her being pregnant at the time. If she is that mother, as you guys said there's no proof of any other kids, other than that random teddy bear in the hallway. I got the idea from the footage I've seen(have P.T. downloaded still, but I'm a massive baby) that like, the radio murder = one event, the bathroom scene in the red hallway = another separate event, and Lisa and her fetus are a third, more mysterious one, seeing as we never learn how exactly her murder was carried out aside from her lost eye and bleeding belly. It just seems odd to me that the radio mentioned a STRING of murders, and yet, if Lisa = the mother murdered in the radio broadcast, we only get two examples of this apparent string, but if it were THREE murders, it seems much more.. string-y, from what we're presented with. Actually, now that I think about it, from the amalgam hallway theory that you guys talked about, maybe Lisa is an amalgam as well? Of the many mothers that were killed? She has what seems to be wet hair, like the mother killed in the bathroom would have, seeing as she sounds like she's trying to regain her breath after almost being drowned in the bathtub, along with what is possibly/probably the rifle wound from the radio report murder, and the eye wound from the 'gouge it out' photo. (possibly the murder wound of a third mother, if she was stabbed farther in than her eye) Also, she doesn't look much like the woman in the fixed photo or the 'gouge it out' photo, though that could easily be chalked up to 'Silent Hill is weird and distorts appearances of things all the time'. I dunno, just a theory I've been theorizing. Stuff that's cool to think about!
Really late theory, but maybe "You've been chosen" has something to do with Silent Hill 'teaching you lessons' Like, the player (Norman) has been chosen by Silent Hill to be taught a 'lesson', which leads me to believe that Norman has SOMETHING to do with the story, like he did something bad. Maybe he was the boss, or, going off of nothing here, killed his own family and has been chosen to meet the same faith as the other fathers, insanity.
My friend just pointed out that the phrase "The only me is me, are you sure the only you is you" kinda foreshadows [Oh yeah SPOILERS FOR MGSV] kinda foreshadows what will happen with Big Boss / Venom. Now what I'd really like to see, is that the Bloody Bag being voiced by a Kiefer Sutherland (pitched-down) like they did with the medic. That would be meta. Can anyone find the credits for the voices of P.T ?
I think the issue with trying to male Silent Hill an anthology is that the original Silent Hill story revolved around the cult. The cult is what started everything and thus is a key part of Silent Hill as a whole. That being said, I understand why one would be frustrated with it, and the points that are brought up make sense and I agree to an extent. I also feel like when the original team split up (three times I might add) it made ot harder to have the same quality of writing (Not to say the team left over was bad).
I reccomend watching the "Real Silent Hill Experience", the downpour episode explains what happens when they don't explain anything. there's something important, it's called closure.
About the mating cockroaches, well cockroaches are considered filthy insects and they're having sex so that could be a metaphor about Lisa and Lisa's boss sexual relationship. Nice movie guys! that answered some questions.
cockroaches were a guide in metal gear solid, and in metal gear solid 2 it could be a Kojima thing. Also the bag and the idea of it being another player could be a concept that Kojima expanded on in Death Stranding : Connection, This idea could have been something he was looking to do in Silent Hills, like puzzles that require people to connect or talk. He created that connection in MGS 1 with the P. Mantis and the putting the controller into the second port.
An anthology series would be cool but I think staying away from the cult is not the solution. Out of all the western silent hill games, only Homecoming and Origins dealt heavily with the cult. All of the westerns, even the two games I just mentioned, try to imitate the SH2 twist where the protagonists are really responsible for all their problems. What needs to be avoided are twists about a misleading protagonist. PS: You might want to use the term intersex when describing Sadako's genitalia situation. But I'm since so I could be wrong.
Old video I haven't seen is new to me! You talked a lot about the other instalments in the series and I was reminded about how divided the SH community is regarding the cult. In truth, a lot of SH fans seem only to be fans of SH2, and just tolerate the other ones because of the visuals, so I get that. You want a psychological horror with disturbing and provocative imagery, not necessarily a Silent Hill game. To me, the cult aspect has always been pretty integral to the series. I mean, they aren't explaining things fundamentally - they're explaining things within the context of their faith, which is inconsistent and proven wrong so many times. Basically, it's showcasing how SH's forces leaked into the common populace and how some people dealt with it. If you think about any time you had to do a ritual, it pretty much never works out as intended. Remember that SH was a spiritual (WEIRD) place before white colonists got there, so it's mostly crazy people trying to put their brand of feeble order onto the bizarre force that draws them to the place.
Don't know if you two are still doing stuff with silent hill or otherwise but I wish you would come back, you guys put so much thought into this stuff.....makes me feel less like a weirdo for often doing the same. Plus your insights are great.
I always thought, that the bag had the fetus in it for example since the voice is the same /similar. It's been a while. Or the heart of another guy who was stuck in this loop, since it'S telling you that he saw himself and followed him, but he was wasn't him since the only him is him and so on. I never got the penis analogy from the bag.
I have to say it but it's so god damn refreshing to hear someone acknowledge that explaining things detracts from horror! I just played RE7, and I haven't played any other RE game, but the mold and the molded would be so much scarier without The Connections and Umbrella explaining their existence...A lot of horror gets so bogged down with Explaining It and forgets how powerful mystery is u_u
I just remembered something, regarding the Swedish massage in PT. Mr Kojima-San is known for his love for Sweden (or Sweden related pranks). When he decided to reveal the new Metal Gear ( The Phantom Pain), he made a fake game studio (Moby Dick Studios). where you can read in this fake studio's page this massage : ((Moby Dick Studio is a game developing company operating out of Stockholm, Sweden. Moby Dick Studio was founded by CEO Joakim Mogren who after years of working for a major American developer brought together people out of various game studios from around the Scandinavian area to start something new. Our goal is to deliver an uncompromising, exciting and touching game experience to people all around the globe. We will shortly be disclosing information regarding our first major release.)) I know its a long shot, but here you have same developer (Kojime), making 2 games(PT and MGS:GZ) in the same year, both of which are DEMOS for a much bigger sequels. And in the text provided in the fake studio page, you have couple of red flags 1-Sweden 2-The CEO of this fake company name's start with J ( Joakim Mogren) I really wish that some questions from PT are to be answer in totally another game that would be sick XD Thank you guys again for sharing my love for these games.
When new silent hill games come out I agree that the cult should be left alone but for different reasons the cults dead and gone after sh3 so it's town history at this point but I think the game still needs to include the occult that's what's really missing from western games if you ask me the way the early games use occult practices and demonology as inspiration really helped create the series' identity
Really disappointed you guys spent time on something like the 'murder solving' theory but didn't touch on the MK ultra mind control theory and 204863 as a trigger.
With such intelligent and dedicated people behind it, it's a goddamn sin that this channel died. I really hope it will come back once death stranding is released.
Psst its back
Guido Fedeli same my iq is 1000 when it comes to crime scene and horror games...
Greg Allen wait is this the same bob vids LMAO
It's back again
The fact that you guys have enough dedication to make a 2 and a half hour video on demo is more than enough to make me sub
Myke Alien Seriously watch all of their stuff. These guys are some of the best of the best content creators on youtube.
darklsn yeah they are insane
And they're gone
I forgot what ghost she is but her aborted baby is THE NEW SILENT HILL Which became "Death Standing"
I'm just trying to delve In the mind of a Japanese hint dropper delivering a crypt message about his fate.. The fact the hallway is a maze spiraling down into a hellish decent is the halls of Konami lol
Lisa is the Fox Engine, that "birthed" Silent Hill, but was repurposed for other games (making character models).
@@aspiringwayfarer Good shit💯Love it. Anymore thoughts!?
Probably it was about MK Ultra idk
If anything, Silent Hills, plural, implies that the game would focus on many people's Silent Hill experience. Like how in PT it's a mish mash of all the murderers and all that fun stuff, and they may or may not have anything to do with you.
GUESS WE'LL NEVER KNOW. HOORAY.
Havoc Jaeger You mean Boohoo? I really looked forward for P.T. A game that promised a lot
PseudoFishManCow ? SARCASM
I think it's about the multiple universes, since there are many variations of the same hallway in the game, meaning multiple silent hills?
But we will. Because concepts will transit into death Stranding,.
Fucking sucks 😒
Jareth? Like David Bowie's character in Labyrinth? And David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World" is important to MGSV. Was this all just a massive work by kojima?
+The4thSnake character that spirits a young person away into a 'fantasy' world?
kinda groping here but i could see the connection
+The4thSnake Labyrinth as in the movie where a person goes looking for a loved one in a pocket dimension and attracting the attention of a supernatural puppeteer and never really escaping their grasp all the while opening a door that never really closes labyrinth?
I thought I was the only one who made the connection...
Wait what?
It is almost certainly "Jareth" and not "Jarith" - consider the baby laughing sounds.
Are you sure
@@stuudude6023 Yeah I'm fairly certain. Unfortunately I don't have any real proof. Just my word and a five year old memory

That’s creepy
I’ll look for
Old pt first time
Videos to see if
I find it
1:20:50 That idea that men kill their families because they can't provide for them could have a Japanese counterpart - mothers that commit suicide with their children.
Oh just wanted to share, in case you missed it:
Metal gear solid 5 easter egg on hearing the radio from P.T.
Hector Acosta I know I'm 2 years late, but I ran into that radio in MGSV and it scared the living shit out of me because I got flashbacks of P.T.
J and silent hill..
Jay and Silent Hill...
Jay and Silent Bob.
The mystery is solved!
😂😭
New finding guys. Last night, July 26 2015, at the jumpscare loop, i intensed to not gouge her eye out, then i turned around, Lisa killed me. Then i woke up in the concrete room, i walked backward to the door to go back to the endless hallway, i saw her stand in the middle of the concrete room looking at me. SPOOKY.
Linh Phan It's a bug... or is she following you for real in the jumpscare loop?! xD Pretty damn creepy btw
But that's an interesting take
That's exactly what I've been thinking.
...if tap water came out it would DROWN OUT the fetus so then surely it would mean the opposite of what you said!? DONT use the taps the fetus is trying to guide you and turning the taps on would kill one of the few sources of genuine help and clues you are getting...
it would be amazing if you guys can do a video about death stranding
I'm still obsessed with that game to be honest.
It possesed me D:
Same here
+LostInDreams1990 Same.
We still are to This day
"Are you sure the only you is you" might reference that all father's who kill they're families go to this house and you're playing one of those fathers.
Maybe J is like Walter from Silent Hill 4. He's figured out enough to use Silent Hill's power to get what he wants and it's also what Silent Hill wants.
Too bad you guys didn't make more of these, would've loved to see such interesting discussions about Silent Hill 2 :(
One thought I had is that if shes putting your gut in the bag then it's your gut telling you how to survive? It would be a clever way to have a tooltip without having a tooltip...
Guys, please make more videos. I could listen your dialogs for a decade, so interesting.
"Kojima has a huge team of people" NOT ANYMORE
Fuck Konami
Kojima recently tweeted and posted the poster of PT, I found myself back here to reminisce
I just really don't want this channel to die tbh, it's really really good and so short lived in my opinion
I also need my Silent Hill fix since there is no hope of ever having a decent installment ever again because of Konami.
Silent Hill - the jellybeans (which always stood out to me in Nowhere as well as PT)
Silent Hill 2 - the pills (in the hospital room with Mary. James doesn't know what the pills are, much like we don't know what those PT pills are)
Silent Hill 3 - the pink bunny (a reference to Robby the Rabbit who first appeared in SH3.)
Maybe Kojima wanted to put a small clue in the game that paralleled the first 3 "Silent Hills"
Also the phone call you receive is a big nod to the first game as well. There's clues about the PT story, but perhaps there are a second set of clues specifically alluding to the original Silent Hill games, such as the War of Worlds broadcast alluding to the UFO endings
Also,, when the radio comes comes on with the "don't touch that dial.." phrase ; I thought it resembled the game show moment from SH2
I would have loved to see what they could have done going forward in the games, including the cult.
bettiebloodshed many people don't like the cult element.
Most insightful quote: "When you have fun, people have fun, and it's fun."
when telling you to turn your brain off and not try and work out the story on a channel that is trying to explain things...
I believe Silent Hills would have been the player roaming around Silent Hill exploring various murders around the town as well as other crimes related. Possibly a way of making the player recall his memories of what he may have done or will do. Idk
Ffffrickin' amazing! Can't wait for more podcasts! Maybe there's still hope for SHills
The only thing that makes just a little sense to me about the flashlights is that each time you go through at the end is that it's a separate reality and most of the time you have a normal flashlight but in other realities you have different color flashlight or no flashlight. Idk
Listening to both Whispers in the Static podcasts together was fun - In a watching people have all joy sucked out of them sort of way.
I don't know why you guys don't get a lot of views like at least 10,000 or so, you guys are awesome! I love listening to you guys!
Guillermo Del Toro actually revealed that Junji Ito was involved in the creation of P.T.
I found it nice to see the apartment in HD, since SH 4 gets so much hate.
reedus and fetus rhyme... just saying.

Norman Reedus and the Funky Fetus
Because it says "my voice can you hear it" I waited until I could hear Lisa's voice then read the picture because it say's "this sign can you read it?"
Then I went to the bathroom to find Lisa in the mirror because it says "I'll wait forever if you'll just come to me"
I did all of this before the witching sounds ended.
Please return guys your videos were amazing
Still fun to think about
The line from the phone "You've been chosen" always sounded like Norman Reedus himself to me.
I don't think anything supernatural happens when you're going through the flashlight colors which might imply you're not Lisa's target in this segment and seeing the same hallway scene in different lights might represent a neutral perspective.
Maybe the colors of the flashlight is just what the character feels psychologically?
I believe if you play through the game fast enough, you can skip through most of the "cut scenes" like the window breaking.
didn't the helpful bag say something about seeing himself walking?
KingNaesala hi, just here to call you a fucking idiot. thanks for playing.
***** it's highly possible, but it's not confirmed.
My friend just pointed out that the phrase "The only me is me, are you sure the only you is you" kinda foreshadows [Oh yeah SPOILERS FOR MGSV]
kinda foreshadows what will happen with Big Boss / Venom.
I miss you guys... I guess there’s not much silent hill stuff to talk about now though.
cockroaches were a guide in metal gear solid, and in metal gear solid 2 it could be a Kojima thing.
You guys should continue with these videos, starting from SH 1 leading up to P.T. Great Videos! I want more!
Can't get enough of these SH maniacs debating insane theories etc.
Fungo and twin perfect have tons of material on the games including P.T as well.
did anyone notice that the door after de stairs.. the one that takes you to a new loop.. sometimes it has a frame and sometimes it doesn't?
glad to see you guys post, cant wait to see the next one! thanks for the video =]
What I love about Silent Hill is that there’s no concrete explanation of the town.
It could be gas fumes, drugs, a cult, or demons.
2:03:03 Venom Snake's sink at the end of MGSV
Please come back !!! We miss you :-:
Kojima just has a hard-on for Sweden. "Joakim Mogren" and "Moby Dick Studio" were "Swedish"
+aresdotexe I didn't know japanese were attracted to people of african descent
***** ...?
"I hate the cult." "Silent Hill doesn't have to take place in Silent Hill."
Then why play Silent Hill?
I always thought, that the bag had the fetus in it for example since the voice is the same /similar. It's been a while. Or the heart of another guy who was stuck in this loop, since it'S telling you that he saw himself and followed him, but he was wasn't him since the only him is him and so on. I never got the penis analogy from the bag.
Great Podcast! :P Almost fell out of my chair at the "Grate" debate. xD
I love listening to you guys talking.
Random thought: does saying 204863 into the mic do anything at any point in the loops? Since the husband was found saying it.
trauma is past down from generation to generation, could the loop be the cycle of trauma and could Norman be the one who was killed and the killer.
where are you guys??? we need a new video!
Death Stranding.
What if it's "Jack" (Big Boss 'name'/codename)?
Please make more videos.
For other Silent Hill games or about Kojima or about anything you like to talk about.
Wow you guys really knocked it out of the park on this one, thanks for all the hard work.
When he decided to reveal the new Metal Gear ( The Phantom Pain), he made a fake game studio (Moby Dick Studios). where you can read in this fake studio's page this massage :
((Moby Dick Studio is a game developing company operating out of Stockholm, Sweden. Moby Dick Studio was founded by CEO Joakim Mogren who after years of working for a major American developer brought together people out of various game studios from around the Scandinavian area to start something new.
Our goal is to deliver an uncompromising, exciting and touching game experience to people all around the globe.
We will shortly be disclosing information regarding our first major release.))
I know its a long shot, but here you have same developer (Kojime), making 2 games(PT and MGS:GZ) in the same year, both of which are DEMOS for a much bigger sequels.
And in the text provided in the fake studio page, you have couple of red flags 1-Sweden
2-The CEO of this fake company name's start with J ( Joakim Mogren)
I really wish that some questions from PT are to be answer in totally another game that would be sick XD
Thank you guys again for sharing my love for these games.
You guys need to upload more often, you guys deserve 100,000 subscribers.
So, haven't watched this through yet, but I have to ask: What's the future for this channel now that Silent Hills is dead?
Mic Roe Pony they are going to discuss the other games in the series.
Silent Hill Historical Society Ah, good! That's more or less what I was hoping for.
Really disappointed you guys spent time on something like the 'murder solving' theory but didn't touch on the MK ultra mind control theory and 204863 as a trigger.
Who keeps an umbilical chord in the garage? I don't know...who keeps an umbilical chord in a box, on their shelf until it stinks? :p
*Snort* It was a Silent Hill 4 reference friend :)
