One of my FAVORITE CSN songs. I remember when I first heard it on the radio, I immediately knew that this was a hit and they would be touring. I had just moved to Tampa, FL. and sure enough! I was exactly right and they did go on tour. I finally got to see them live in Lakeland, FL. It was the first time I had seen CSN together, live, in concert. My fiance bought the tickets for my wedding present. We got married the next day, but divorced 5 yrs later. But I'll never forget that concert. I could barely breathe when I saw the three microphone stands waiting on the stage for my 3 idols to take their places in front of. And when the boys came out, it was as if time and space stopped! That moment is frozen forever in my memory. I was in HEAVEN thru out that entire 2 hour concert. I saw them many more times during the next 15 yrs I lived in Florida and even got to meet CSN a few yrs later. I went to every show they did in Florida during those 15 yrs, but I'll always remember that first one with those 3 mic stands, and then seeing the guys come out and start singing. And of course they did Southern Cross. It was the Daylight Again tour. And now, whenever I hear Southern Cross, I relive those first moments. It always makes me shiver as I remember seeing my guys and hearing them live for the first time. Heaven. Just pure, unadulterated, HEAVEN on EARTH!!!

@randysteele6741 It is a great song, and they did a fantastic job recording it. They give credit to the other writers (which is deserved) when they sang live.
I got to see them July 3, 1987 at Hershey stadium. They sounded great. I saw them twice at Hershey Pennsylvania. One of the times, David Crosby was just getting his act back together. He had been in trouble with the law and coming back from a couple of drug crazy years. It was good to see the three of them on stage.
I think people have underestimated what a great songwriter and singer Stills was. He took a little ditty from a different artist and wrote and arranged one of the most iconic songs of all time.
Masterful 3 part vocal harmony w/ ea member standing as per their vocal range, symphonic acoustic guitar accord, lyrical brilliance in a simple narrative structure, pictures w/ words, and Stephen's unmistakable strum and authentic rock voice... Less sad, more vapid. What does Rolling Stone know? They were just playing simple chords and simple strum. 3 acoustic guitars strumming does not make a good sound. Steven is an excellent guitarist but Dave and Graham are just strummers. It is not where their talent lies
Best live performance I've seen from CSN.
Seriously- even better than in their ’69 heyday!
These guys had me sailing to the Marquesas reminiscing about the precious love that I lost. What a great song. Miss you Dave.
This song....played on my big brother, Bobby's 75 foot sailboat when we were sailing thru Tahiti ...he was a talented photographer who was spending 2 years of his life back in the 80's doing a pictography of the South Pacific and I was blessed to join him for 2 weeks and see some of what he photographed....God bless him...he passed away this January, 2016....one of the most beautiful and kind person I ever knew....and he LOVED this song!!!
+ Meri Fagan , So sorry for your loss. Your brother had great taste in music. It should comfort you to know that hearing the song reminds you of the great person he was ...
Journey well brother
That's a great memory. He sounded like a very talented kind man. Sorry for your loss.
The love in your testimony, awesome u were able to experience the trip with him!
That is so beautiful, thank you for sharing that.
This is one of my favorite CSN songs. The nautical references in the first verse are evocative of one who knows the sea. Congrats.
It's genius when so many years after their initial massive success they come up with arguably their greatest song.
They didnt write Southern Cross
@@briangasser973 Stills wrote the lyrics with a couple of other guys.
@@Chifan71 Stills, Rick Curtis, and Mike Curtis. Only one of the 1 writers was CSN. The melody came from Curtis
@@briangasser973 One writer is enough writers to get songwriter credits. At any rate, they still chose the song, recorded the song and released it years after their initial popularity, and it's easily one of the best of their amazing career. What's your beef?
@randysteele6741 It is a great song, and they did a fantastic job recording it. They give credit to the other writers (which is deserved) when they sang live.
*on the midnight watch I realized why twice you ran away*
Right in the feels. Thanks for this.
I saw them in Boston on their 1992 Acoustic Tour. They were incredible!
When a musician was a musician and not the extension of some digital Equipment 🙂
smh 🤦♂️
Back when all you had was a guitar and your talent to wonderfully entertain. No bells and whistles just talent!
Nostalgia is one of the greatest enemies of the truth.
smh 🤦♂️
I think people have underestimated what a great songwriter and singer Stills was. He took a little ditty from a different artist and wrote and arranged one of the most iconic songs of all time.
And re-turned guitar to get that deeper sound. Brilliant
Awesome! One of my favorite songs! Love the meaning of it too.
I've watched this many times, it never gets old just a classic.
Masterful 3 part vocal harmony w/ ea member standing as per their vocal range, symphonic acoustic guitar accord, lyrical brilliance in a simple narrative structure, pictures w/ words, and Stephen's unmistakable strum and authentic rock voice... So good, just so good and on the Rolling Stone top 500 songs, you won't find it or one CSN song...! So sad
c
Less sad, more vapid. What does Rolling Stone know? Even Bob Dylan, the man who coined the phrase, “like a ROLLING STONE” said, “play that again” when CSNY played Southbound Train for him shortly after they’d first written the song. He meant it as a huge compliment, and it was taken that way. Even Bob Dylan knows these guys are the real deal.
Seen them 3 times,Pure voices pure guitars nid i say anything else!
One of my favorite songs of all time!!! Love "Southern Cross".
💜💜💜 And CSN performed it on the Johnny Carson Late Night Show!!! #Awesome
This was the first "Super Group". A live performance, no enhancement, fabulous music.
No, that would be Cream.
@@DonTSmith you are correct.
