I will never forget how kind Jackson browne was to me and my sister at a concert in Boston Ma back in 1980. We were trying to get closer to the stage because we couldn't see very well. A bouncer yelled at us and tried to make us leave. The concert hadn't started yet and Jackson told him to leave us alone. He said they are fine, it's ok. Who else would have taken notice of that going on as he was preparing to do a show? Class act.

Playing this on our cassette stereo in a 68 Volkswagen station wagon in ‘78 during a cross country road trip with my dear brother and a close friend crossing Lake Pontchartrain coming from Hot Lanta enroute to New Orleans. I still can’t cross that lake without thinking about this song and the joy in our hearts listening to it. Kudos to all who made that era a special time.
I met Rosemary Butler in a hotel room private party after a JB and Graham Nash concert. She was so sweet and gracious. She has sung background on pretty much everyone’s music.
Ladies & Gentleman I bring you Jackson Browne with “the section” . Now for all you youngsters out there go play the original version & turn it up real loud and check out the energy behind it. The 70’s man.
I was a sophomore in high school when this was released. I heard this man’s voice and I was immediately hooked. His voice will always sound like home to me.
I was at NAMM a few years back before the Pandemic on the show floor. Jackson Browne was standing 5 feet from me and this girls jaw dropped. I could not believe it. No one around but us and we got to shake his hand up close and chat with him for a few.....I Love NAMM.
Ah, the 70's, magical times full of music, love and hope. I carry fond memories of that warm summer night in 1977 when this song was recorded at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. We splurged on real seats in the pavilion that night instead of the usual lawn tickets. Little did we know we were about to witness history. As the final notes rang out, we ran like the wind to the Cross Keys Hotel after the show to wait for Jackson's bus. They say you should never meet your hero's, but they don't know Jackson, so warm, real & grounded. We had a nice chat while he signed a few autographs. At first, I just stood there, spellbound, my mind unable to register what my eyes were seeing. With zero thought, my arm levitated out and touched Jackson gently on the back. Yes, thank you Rock Gods, he IS real and standing right here. He glanced back at me, checked his shirt (all was well!) and carried on. I asked if he gave guitar lessons, he said he used to but didn't have time to anymore. I asked for a hug, and got one. I pulled a folded wrinkled flyer I had been given in the parking lot before the show out of my pocket & asked for an autograph, Jackson asked where I got it & if I minded if he opened & read it, said he that in addition to wanting to know what he is signing, he liked to keep informed on what was being handed out at his shows. He folded it back up and signed it. I kept it in my childhood jewelry box for 40 years, one day it just disappeared, gone with the wind, but that's okay, I will always carry memories of that night tucked inside my heart. Thank you JB, for your humanity. You are a kind, talented, beautiful soul. When days grow dark and life gets hard, memories like this remind me that dreams do come true, kindness does exist, rock stars can be hero's. God bless you and yours Jackson Browne. Stay well, know you are loved and keep on running and rocking. 💗💃🏻💗

Wow! What a time machine for me. I was so engulfed in this album back then. I saw the concert at Universal Amphitheater. One of the best I've ever seen. Wonderful musicians and vocalists. Rosemary really stands out especially on "Stay". Jackson's lyrics always hit home for me. Bravo!
I love this song. I relate to this song. In 65 I was 14 in 69 I was 18. Now I'm 70. I feel like now I need to slowdown. I been running a long time. I love you Jackson Browne.

Couple things...all so Jackson. Looks like he forgets the chords when he goes into the break. Classic. Also love how he seems to look back at Rosemary when he hits those high notes in the break like “See? I still got it!” He always looks like he’s having fun. Been a fan since time began. Thanks for all the memories and making me think differently about life and love....
This is the song we all played drums on the dash of our car, played air guitar and tried to sing like we were Jackson Browne. Good memories are in this song. Thank you.
They certainly were. However, to perform at this level live when he would have to be every part of 70,is certainly a brilliant and marvellous effort. 👍😁😄
It's always heart-warming to hear artists who let's face it are way past their prime (like me).......and still sound great. This is more that can be said for some. Props!

One singing voice that really hasn’t aged too much. He still sounds so great and you can understand him. Love Jackson Browne! Reminds me so much of my father who passed when I was 10. He was one of his favorite artists and heard him all the time growing up. I can’t help but tear up each time I hear The Load out/stay.
I saw this when Lee Sklar posted it a while back. Awesome to see and hear you all! Thanks Jackson! When Doctor My Eyes hit back in the early ‘70’s I couldn’t wait to get to school to tell my friends about the great song I heard on the radio! Still one of my favorite songs!
In "65 I was 17 and "running on"...hadn't yet discovered my love for music until '69, when I was 21 and I learned how to play guitar, sing, and start a rock band. The next 15 years was one hell of a ride, sometimes on empty, sometimes on full, especially of many great memories. Playing this song in the late 70s was part of them. Thanks, Jackson, for "running" with us!
Trip down memory lane. Cruising in my green Malibu listening to my 8 track. Still sounds as good to me as it was 40 years ago. Thanks for the music Jackson.
His show last Friday night at the Greek Theater at UC Berkeley was phenomenal, and under a full moon and 70F, it was SO perfect. Me at 55, I'm blessed to still be able to see Jackson live and at such an incredible venue, I am truly grateful, thank you Jackson!

His music just sounds better with age. His lyrics have so much meaning and feeling. Leland Sklar on bass has played with so many big name musicians, I see him everywhere.

Check out their current band, The Immediate Family. Top notch rock.
@@boblee4162too bad they none of them can sing though
Always loved and appreciated Rosemary Butler's strong and lovely background vocals. Such a perfect compliment to JB's smooth sound.

@@jacksonbrowne4613 Your songs bring back so many memories I'm actually a metal head but somebody's baby had me cruising Ventura Blvd ironically to Sherman oaks galleria in my teen years ( fast times ridgemont high ) in the mid 80s That song was soon much fun to Cruise with my gal in hand ! Carefree days ! .....hold out lol still a favorite of mine ! Still have the 8 track lol!
Wow! What a time machine for me. I was so engulfed in this album back then. I saw the concert at Universal Amphitheater. One of the best I've ever seen. Wonderful musicians and vocalists. Rosemary really stands out especially on "Stay". Jackson's lyrics always hit home for me. Bravo!
Nothing but L.A. rock and roll legends on that stage.
I love this song. I relate to this song. In 65 I was 14 in 69 I was 18. Now I'm 70. I feel like now I need to slowdown. I been running a long time. I love you Jackson Browne.
My age, too. His songs have always haunted me, so beautiful. Have yet to see him live.
I'm 65. I figure I'm good for another 15. Anything after that will be a gift. I hope CJB Will continue playing as long as I'm alive. Never get tired of his soulful, thoughtful, songs. Hits ya right where it counts. Much love💓🌹🎶🎹🎸
@@nancyboyd6273 I feel the same way. Hope you are having a beautiful day. 😊

Jackson Browne as a great song writer and musician. His music is timeless. He's still playing live shows today and has a great band too. Awesome.
This version seems a beat slower ? To me.. Great jam.
He is tuned a whole step lower than the rest of the band, that has to make it so much more complicated.
He knows the chords, I think he fix the level on his ear monitors
@@archtop He's in open G with a drop C.
Still one of my all time favorite songs - I’m the same age as Jackson and have loved him and this song forever.
Love Rosemary Butler's voice on this song. Backing singers often make a song.
Man, that was one of the all great performances!
Kids, play for 50 years and you too will get good.
With gas prices being so high. I am always running on empty.😒🌺
This is the song we all played drums on the dash of our car, played air guitar and tried to sing like we were Jackson Browne. Good memories are in this song. Thank you.
I still do and they still are!!
Beautiful.
Soak this in.....the 70s were a great time to be alive.
They certainly were. However, to perform at this level live when he would have to be every part of 70,is certainly a brilliant and marvellous effort. 👍😁😄
It sure was !
It sure was Pete!
Yes!!
It's always heart-warming to hear artists who let's face it are way past their prime (like me).......and still sound great. This is more that can be said for some. Props!
Can't beat Jackson Browne. Played that album over and over back in the day. He was talking to me and describing my life at t he time. Timeless creativity
I love his one songs "Late in the Sky". He may as well said, Peg listen to this song. It's for you. Thank you Jackson Browne
I live in the Deep South and rarely see anyone good here but Running on Empty is a classic worth it all. Love you Jackson B.
I got to see him in Asheville during his Solo Aucustic tour back in 2010🙆 😉 priceless memories 💖
You have far more to be proud of but living in the Deep South even though you probably don’t get many shows there.
Great shows in The real LA - Lower Alabama. Great festivals on the beaches in the Gulf Shores area every year!

@@jacksonbrowne4613 I would like to know what kind of books you enjoy reading. I probably already know this answer, just curious. 😊
JACKSON BROWNE FOREVER
Leland and Russ, kicking ass on the rythym section.
What’s crazy is they were on the original recording back in ‘77.
It speaks volumes to see them all still performing together.
Grew up listening to the wonderful music that is Jackson Browne. Thought it was so relavent at the time and here I am still captivated 50 years later.
Jackson Brown is an amazing musician and known to be. Very kind man as well
Leland’s bass is gorgeous! Song is great! Great driving song where you can sing to this at the top of your lungs!
Yup, love how he just grooves along, holding it together and driving the song effortlessly, looking like the norse god of bassists.
Thanks for the music Jackson.
a REAL GENTLEMAN!!! pure class.. Legend.
No matter how many times I listen I hear another little piece that stands out. Timeless song.
So great to see everyone back doing this. Great song, good memories.
His show last Friday night at the Greek Theater at UC Berkeley was phenomenal, and under a full moon and 70F, it was SO perfect. Me at 55, I'm blessed to still be able to see Jackson live and at such an incredible venue, I am truly grateful, thank you Jackson!
I WAS ONLY 9 WHEN MY FATHER TOOK METO MY FIRST J.B. CONCERT AND I HAVEN'T BEEN THE SAME SINCE.
This particular rendition says it all about David Lindley's greatness. May he Rest In Peace.
Nice to see Jackson playing with members of his old band.
Miss David Lindley's guitar work on this one though.
Fan.
Lee Sklar had quite the career playing on just about every hit song you can remember.

@@jacksonbrowne4613 I've listened to a number of your interviews lately. I'm so impressed what a kind, humble person you are.
His music just sounds better with age. His lyrics have so much meaning and feeling. Leland Sklar on bass has played with so many big name musicians, I see him everywhere.
When you're *that* good, everyone wants you !
How many many miles I have driven playing this album, cassette or CD! I still play it on road trips. Also my dad was a long haul trucker, his handle was Super Trash. I miss him so much!
That was great. JB still sounding fantastic. Felt like I was at a rock concert. Well done.😀👍
I always play The Pretender & Running on Empty albums back to back. Takes me back.......
I am 61. I had this album when i was 18. They still sound exactly the same. Love Jackson Browne!
I was introduced to Jackson Browne in the early 80's by my eldest brother; ever since then, his songs have been etched in my mind..
This song never gets old.
1977 Universal Amphitheater on a beautiful Southern California night. I loved the sounds! Jackson Browne has always been a favorite from my teenage years!

I saw that also. Was so awesome
...still crazy (and lovin') after all these years....
DANKESCHÖN 🙏🎶🎵😻
After all these years; Jackson's voice is still incredible!
I saw Jackson Browne in concert at the Hartford civic center back in the eighties my girlfriend and I had floor seats. I will never forget it!!!
Jackson Brown, another grossly underrated singer/songwriter. Still got the voice
Grossly underrated? Never heard that description before. In his prime and to this day is very well regarded and has many accolades and success.
Forgive me LORD....BUT JESUS CHRIST that was like the track off the album.......PERFECTION!!!!!
Let me add this is being done 41 years later after it was recorded!!!!!!!!!
These people at NAMM just witnessed literally the same sound off the album with the same players!!!!
UNHEARD OF!!!!!!!! I wish I had a ZIPPO LIGHTER EMOJI!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!
man this takes me back, cruising around in the car and singing along with this as it played on the radio :)
Thanks for this music.
It is beautiful.
Great to see Leland, Russ and Kooch.
Listening to Jackson
Browne, I feel a cascade of sensations: hollowness in the belly , as if I am falling down and through, a warmth circulating in my chest, a prior- to speech pulsing in the
Throat !
And there’s Leland Sklar rocking out! Not saying a word, yet making a statement. All the best Jackson! Bravo!
He's still got it. GO JACKSON
Yup .Tank ain't empty yet . I'm glad . I love this tune .
I can't help but sing along EVERY TIME it comes on...even recently in a store. lol Of course I kept it low to placate the other shoppers. ;-) I never get tired of hearing it. What a great song!
