This song is one occasion when music went above any standard, any compare. In fact, there is NO compare. It is sheer talent and musicality, simply a masterpiece not often reached before or after. A wonder. Steve Stills is a creator like there has seldom been, he is God's gift to humanity.
They are my ALL TIME FAVORITE group of musicians... Have seen various groupings of them about a dozen times... CSN , CSNY , STILLS with MANASSAS , NASH & CROSBY. OUTSTANDING BUNCH of Musicians.. CSN one of the best probably at the top in my opinion.. David is surely missed by them and fans world wide!!!!
Stephen Stills is one of the great guitarists of our time. Every live performance, he carries the band musically. This was a great performance. I got to see a little bit of that Stills technique. I wish they focused more on his playing. I notice he uses his thumb over the top like my father used to do.
Stills is 80% of the CSN songs. Used to be in Buffalo Springfield. He is a great talent. Nash Met Stills and Crosby at Joni Mitchel's house one night and sang together it was meant to be.
Saw them when I was in college, around 1982 or so. The best stuff in their concert was the Stephen Stills material -- this song and for what it's worth. I was working the concert, so saw it for free. Probably wouldn't have paid to see it, but it is nice to say that I saw them when they were very good.
🎵Got out of town on a boat, goin' to Southern islands Sailing a reach before a followin' sea She was makin' for the trades on the outside And the downhill run to Papeete Off the wind, on this heading lie the Marquesas We've got 80 feet of the waterline nicely making way In a noisy bar in Avalon, I tried to call you But on the midnight watch, I realized why twice you ran away Think about Think about how many times I have fallen Spirits are using me, larger voices callin' What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten I have been around the world (Lookin') Lookin' for that woman, girl (Who knows, she knows) Who knows love can endure And you know it will When you see the Southern Cross for the first time You understand now why you came this way 'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from is so small But it's as big as the promise The promise of a comin' day So I'm sailing for tomorrow, my dreams are a-dyin' And my love is an anchor tied to you Tied with a silver chain I have my ship and all her flags are a-flyin' She is all that I have left and music is her name Think about Think about how many times I have fallen Spirits are using me, larger voices callin' What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten I have been around the world (Lookin') Lookin' for that woman girl Who knows love can endure And you know it will And you know it will (Yes) So we cheated and we lied and we tested And we never failed to fail It was the easiest thing to do You will survive being bested Somebody fine will come along, make me forget about loving you In the Southern Cross 🎵⛵
I have attended a great many concerts over the years- all the big names, but CSN (no Young!) is a real standout. I saw them on this tour, 1989, at the outdoor concert shell in Kapi 'Olani Park, Waikiki. Magnificent show.
Not sure what is going on with Graham but he is acting like they are going to be singing pop songs and the beauty of so much of their work is the depth that is there. Most are not "clap along and sing along" songs but Graham is so hepped up like a cheerleader at the superbowl - makes me feel like my connection to Stephen Stills is even stronger, I have seen youtube videos where Stephen has motioned to the crowd to stop clapping and LISTEN to the work. Graham is just bonkers here.
What a waste electrifying these beautiful 2 Martin Dreadnoughts and a Guild. These instruments sound tiny and flat electrified. Playing straight acoustic would have sounded beautiful. But I know how these technologies have taken over pure acoustic - a shame.
well georgia girl, when you've released and toured the songs these guys have done, you maybe might be able to say that and i would respect you, but until then, just bask in the staggering musicianship, songwriting and pure talent of these 3 guys on stage - esp. stephen stills, who was, is and always will be, the most amazing talent...
my money is on the manc man…….lol……this band lifted from my unconscious addiction to pop music and I began listening to story tellers…..eternal gratitude to CSN and y………….from a fellow manc uk
Probably Crosby... I have seen live footage of him so fucked up on smack, that he just used the guitar he was holding as a rest to nod out on. Never played a note, never sang a note. I think it was one of the songs they played at Woodstock '69.
Damn, they look terrible at this point. Glad they mostly (save for Croz) got their shit together and lived much longer. RIP David, but he was mostly gone long before this.
That is one hell of a mullet Nash!
One of the best songs ever written. Thank you, Stephen.
It's nice to hear David's voice for a change, he completes the music whith his sound
Gotta be one of my favorite tunes!! you guys ROCK!!

After David passed January 18, 2023, it hurts to watch these videos.😪
Rest in peace to the sweetest singer of all ❤
well stop watching them then if it hurts. duh.
Dude was a huge douche
David lived well, and we were blessed by his creativity. He’s not gone; he’s away.
David destroyed his liver with heroin and didn't deserve a transplant. I said what I said.
Wonderful song sounds very very good ❤🎉

Really it's great musician
Have wonderful voice 🎉❤
Great band but I don’t know about” one of the greatest “ that’s some tuff company you’re putting him in.
Great musician Steven stills
Stephen is amazing...all of them are but Stephen wrote so many of their most classic tunes - good stuff 🔥
Stephen is a musical genius, or so says Neil Young (another one).
Love this group! Their songs are in my Pandora rotation.
GAAAAHHHHHH!!! I love this song so much!!!
Me too, gosh darn so good.
Wonderful musician ❤🎉❤

🎵Got out of town on a boat, goin' to Southern islands
Sailing a reach before a followin' sea
She was makin' for the trades on the outside
And the downhill run to Papeete
Off the wind, on this heading lie the Marquesas
We've got 80 feet of the waterline nicely making way
In a noisy bar in Avalon, I tried to call you
But on the midnight watch, I realized why twice you ran away
Think about
Think about how many times I have fallen
Spirits are using me, larger voices callin'
What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten
I have been around the world
(Lookin') Lookin' for that woman, girl
(Who knows, she knows) Who knows love can endure
And you know it will
When you see the Southern Cross for the first time
You understand now why you came this way
'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from is so small
But it's as big as the promise
The promise of a comin' day
So I'm sailing for tomorrow, my dreams are a-dyin'
And my love is an anchor tied to you
Tied with a silver chain
I have my ship and all her flags are a-flyin'
She is all that I have left and music is her name
Think about
Think about how many times I have fallen
Spirits are using me, larger voices callin'
What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten
I have been around the world
(Lookin') Lookin' for that woman girl
Who knows love can endure
And you know it will
And you know it will (Yes)
So we cheated and we lied and we tested
And we never failed to fail
It was the easiest thing to do
You will survive being bested
Somebody fine will come along, make me forget about loving you
In the Southern Cross 🎵⛵
I really like that song
My favorite CSN, excellent vocal arrangements, especially the studio version. Masterpiece really. Kudos to Steven Stills.
Stills best ever
love this song
Love sailing and this song really nails the feeling
The great guitarist Steven Stills
I got my next tattoo, we never failed to fail it was the easiest thing to do
While this song was playing at the Brendan Byrne Arena in Nj in 1982, i felt my first child move for the first time. Unforgetable.
Lovely music you playing ❤🎉❤
Maior show que eu tive o privilégio de ver!
Wow ❤😂
Classic song
Great gitter sounds ❤🎉

best version i have seen so far. makes me wonder why nash & stills didnt do more.
Großartig ! Wonderful ! Thank you for posting !
Nice song 😂🎉❤
❤❤❤
Grandiose
Jimmy Buffett made a recording of Southern Cross....Almost as good as CSN...RIP David
And now I play Southern Cross

WE pass and y😊ou it will

Agreed. theres something special about adding an acoustic to an electric- they blend beautifully. I wouldn't mind having a Martin again..
I may be mistaken but I believe Martin held out the longest.............I think it started with Gibson
They dated Rita Coolidge!
The lead dude looks like Alex Jones !
Stills? No way!
Someone was off key that night.
Georgia Girl Hard to say. Crosby was a junky and Nash was a drunk! Sounds like Nash to me!
@@johnnyjoey > LOL

Sick, rude, and thumbs down fucjwad.
That was terrible. The mullet haircut must go too. Retirement is the only thing on “the downhill run”.
(80s hair). And boomers don't retire...😅
Graham Nash is horrible
