Once again excellent job! In the US we used to knit those small doilies even had kits as a kid but we use them for pot holders like an oven mitt for holding on to hot pots as a child I made so many of them and gave them to all my relatives LOL but I could see putting it over a jug to keep contaminants from falling in especially if you lived on a farm just dust and debris to keep out of your water and drinks amazing how we use things for different purposes in different cultures you do an excellent job God bless all your efforts! Much love, Christine
"...before she finally rose to heaven." - Very tastefully done, respectful to her and her faith. I have to say, you guys are very respectful to the places you visit and the people you investigate. Probably the only people on Earth that if I caught you breaking into my place, I'd end up just showing you around, lol. Keep up the good work.
I would just like to say that it may sound romantic, but there is only one person who rose to heaven that was Jesus, for the rest of us it is very different. And another thing there are no homeless nuns as they live in communities in convents. If this was her home she would need to renounce their property and live in poverty, as they take a vow.
@@joaom243 Seriously? I have already figured out that Lesley makes some stuff up as he goes along but he is so charming I watch him anyway and the places he explores are interesting wether or not we are getting the real story, lol.
Just to be in there and breath in the air and physically be able to touch everything there is a moment spiritually that I know Lesley will never forget. I know this!
Yes I was wondering that myself such a huge house they probably provided for a lot of the family members so why was there no help at the end and she went to the church in the end. Was there a family member at the church? Yes you should always look out for older family members especially your own parents for goodness sake. May she rest in peace. Let's hope family at the church gave her peace love and respect at the end. Blessings for everyone. 😊🕊🌹
The saddest part of this, is that, “the kids all move away”. They left and never helped their Mom. My older Daughter is gone a lot and it’s hard. What a beautiful home going to ruin, just probably as that Mother’s heart when her kids never came back to visit. It would be a shame if the ceiling fell in on those beautiful chandeliers! They’re only possessions, God has our true home in heaven though. At the end of the video I cried a little, I think all our grandparents or the people before us struggled or lived this way. A time forgotten loved ones that have passed that you still miss.
I have often imaged a home like this with a court yard with my family living with me with their child, how I have a better idea of how it would be laid out, now I can image more of the plan. Nice to dream.
what I do not understand is why the remaining family does not come to reclaim the remining items. If I knew my great grandparents place was still there with things in it I would go get it. It is so sad to see all the personal belongings still there just rotting away. Some of the cookware is very expensive.. sad, so sad!!
I would be so sad if the things that meant something to me were left to rot and decay. I hope all my friends and family would come through and take pieces of my life and happy "artifacts" away with them. I hope that young families just starting out or college students would take my furniture.
@@TisiGrey They are going to find all kinds here, I have skulls, Baphomet statues, magick books filled with all kinds, lots of different herbs and resins, all kinds of stuff, they will have a field day.
I adore your explores and how respectfully you document the story. It also makes me sad to see what becomes a family's legacy. At 56 I now realise the things I hold dear to me may be a burden to my children. I have started clearing out things that are sentimental to me, but maybe not to them. I'll donate it to people that may find them of benefit rather than have them be thrown out like trash or rot. Everything and everyone has their time. We all return home to the creator. Love to you both from the beautiful Blue Mountains in Australia. Peace, love and light,
This is my perfect home, I've always envisioned living in a home exactly like this. Absolutely stunning and heart breaking that it's being left to decay.
At 15:00 the "Portuguese Coffeemaker" is of Italian origin known as a moka pot or espresso maker. Great job, keep it up. It may appear easy but it's really challenging, takes a lot of hard work to explore and film and edit. Thank you for inviting us along.
Bhavya I have an Italian little espresso pot. My (modern) coffee maker broke & I remebered I had this one. I make coffee with it sometimes twice a day & LOVE it. It just feels so much more "real" & special using this ❤
Hi Lesley! Loving this explore. That chandelier in the chapel is magnificent! The sad part is that it's hanging from a ceiling that is deteriorating. Eventually, the chandelier will fall and shatter. It's such a beautiful chandelier.
That was absolutely amazing. I can’t believe the chandelier was in full tact. While I appreciate your exceptional videos, I worry about your safety. That was pretty sketchy ground you were walking on. Call it the mom in me. Thank you for documenting such beautiful architecture and antiques before it is totally reclaimed into the nature.
Thank you for another epic adventure in a very old abandoned mansion. The chandelier in the chapel is amazing, not a single crystal missing. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. You always show such respect and reverence for other peoples homes and belongings. Keep up the good work, and watch for those weakened floors.
Our town had an F5 tornado. Afterward people could not go back into their homes to salvage clothes or personal items because of bacteria and mold. The lady probably could not salvage her items safely so had to leave them. 😢
18:06 This stove is quite a find! The company that manufactured it was Smith/Wellstood Colombian. The front of the stove is Morning Star No. 1. This parlour stove dates back to the early to mid 1800's.
I found myself wondering what events caused such ruin to the mansion. My thought is it was an earthquake that caused all that damage. Even the damage was beautiful in it's own way. I loved the surprise that I'm sure we all felt when you discovered the 2nd part of the house. Thank you for a great explore!
Although I cannot read Portugese, the certificate on the wall 35:30 is probably a Confirmation Certificate. At 36:10 is a picture of the children on their Confirmation Day, going by the white clothes the girls are wearing. I am wondering if the original part of the house was already decaying and only the newer portion that you found was used. Then it was not safe to even be in the newer portion because moving around the original courtyard house was falling into disrepair and the storm made it comletely unlivable for and older person on her own. I can imagine living in that home with the childrens laughter coming up from the court yard. Beautiful home. Thank you.
I believe that you are on target regarding that framed certificate. I was wondering what it could be. Sometimes, devout individuals do receive special "Papal Proclaimations" (probably not what it's called tho!), but those framed documents are usually much larger.
At 35:30, it is actually an enrollment certificate for "The Daughters of the Union of Mary", which is probably similar to or the same as the Catholic apostolate called "The Legion of Mary" in English-speaking countries, a society that I believe is still active even today.
I love seeing these old places that you explore and I appreciate how respectful you are about leaving things as you found them. However, as one that is very sentimental, it seems incredibly sad that these beautiful things are left behind to rot...
This is an amazing explore, Lesley and Dani! The decaying of this huge house happened over a long period of time. I wonder why the sons never came back to see their mom, sounds a bit strange to me! It will take a lot of resources to renovate this mansion! The chandelier in the chapel is beautiful!

Oh yeah this video made me cry my eyes out. I thought of the nuns I grew up with. Went to Catholic school until 5th grade. You bring the families to life. You bring them life again in a way. Keep up the great videos.
Beautiful explore! Miranda must have been terrified when that massive storm tore down her house around her. I always feel very nostalgic and relate to the people who lived inside the places you explore. You do a great job of setting the atmosphere of the residents. Glad she spent her last days in a calm, safe, and spiritual environment. There is no place like home, but I believe she found comfort there. Her personal chapel was gorgeous!! The chandelier was breathtaking. She must have had an amazing faith. God bless her soul. ❤️
35:10 Something about “our daughter’s marriage” and it’s canonical I’m pretty sure. Hopefully someone else has already translated that and knows what it is. Those white pieces in the last dining room in the tables are crocheted pieces, and I think what Danny is referring to as jar covers are maybe pot holders, either crocheted or made from some kind of kit if a child made them. Those two pieces in this room though need rescuing in a major way. So sad. The photos and the certificate needs rescuing as well. Thank you guys! Wow, two houses in one! The music you selected is really hauntingly beautiful, Danny!
It's about the Pia União das Mulheres de Maria. A lay association: women devoted her life to the Virgin, wore her image on a piece of blue ribbon, wore a veil and dressed in white. They prayed and held processions, but did not go into a nunnery.
This place made me cry!!! Such a truly sad story of Mrs. Gasper😞 Of all of her children, none of them would come back & help her fix up the place or take some of the priceless furniture or momentos in this fabulous property, or care for her themselves?!? Sooo many things that should be saved!!! The wooden furniture was gorgeous! The stained glass windows were epic, the chandelier in the chapel was breathtaking! Sooo many memorable items that should be saved!!! What a gorgeous property, when it was in it’s hay day! I loved that she made doilies!!! I still have some from my grandmother & use & cherish them to this day🙏 I loved the large medal candlesticks! Such a waste of such timeless, epic items, made me get a tear in my eye & wish that I could save them!!! Thank you Leslie & Danny for sharing this wonderful property with us!!! I loved it ❤️

I knew about what the fire place grippers where for, also I thought the side cage openings in the hall way's where for some kind of birds being put inside there, but not sure what 🐦 's. Thanks for the info
You asked why she didn't take her things with her to the monastery. I thought when you entered a monastery you had to give up all of your worldly possessions. That might explain it, unless I'm wrong about that.
Plus there would be no need for any furniture or other items. Anything valuable like jewelry and cash would be given to the church. The three vows are poverty, obedience and chastity.
It was so sweet the way you told the tale of the family and ended with the description of how the girl's religion was taken to another level in the monastery where she lived out her life before going to heaven. God bless you guys. Side note: From my view, this appears to be one of the ricketiest houses you guys have ever explored and I was having little heart attacks that you would fall through those floors. I'm so glad you made it around safely.

Many of the architectural features of this place look much older than 1931. I wonder if the date merely reflects the date they acquired the property? Super fascinating video. Great job Leslie!!
Such a Beautiful place. Thank you for taking us on this adventure with you. Also, thank you for your professionalism and noble respect for these places that you take us to...They are memorials to the generations of the people for whom they were homes and sanctuaries. GOD bless and protect you. Antonia, Az, USA
This place must have been exquisite when it was newly built, and so classically Portuguese in style. The bird cages look like dovecotes or pigeon lofts in their size and design. Great wine cellar...sealed port, and many red wines remain drinkable for a hundred years are more as long as the bottles are still securely corked. The scissor things near the oven are called fire tongs. The tall stand beside the nightstand is for an oil lamp or was used as a fern stand. She likely didn’t take much with her to the monastery because the cells for monks and guests are quite small, and all furnished the same. The covers for glasses or jam jars keep flies and wasps out of your drinks. The hallway with a wall of window is a conservatory where many plants were grown, and people could get Sun in Winter. The set of pictures of Christ on a journey is called “The Stations of the Cross, and they tell the story of his death and resurrection. Thanks for sharing this gem with us, and stay well and safe out there.🖤🇨🇦
Do you know what the doors are for 19.24 They look like bird cages built into the wall but Leslie said they had no back. Thank you very much for all your information. It's great to learn more about these old places.

BTW min 17:45 you're absolutely right, they're fire handlers for structuring the fire. Would love to see more from Portugal ❤️
Really enjoyed your nice coverage of this abandoned mansion, left to decay & soon to completely crumble . Really sad to hear of what happened to Miranda yet so happy to know she entered into nunnery the rest of her life. Her family probably were devouted Christian Catholics with the presence of that huge rosary beads near their altar in the family chapel. Really very interesting of how you narrated the story of Miranda's family. More of your explorations Leslie & Danny. You really are a very very professional vloggers together. Congratulstions, very well done each time. I came upon you this time of pandemic where i got more time at home. Everyday I keep checking if you got new vlogs, if there aren't, i look at your past vlogs... i never tire looking at your vlogs, very well presented always. Congats also to Danny. It's really great that you are doing this. I've always have been drawn to abandoned houses and things that you would find inside. And now thanks to you and your videos I get to explore too!
She seemed like a very deeply religious woman. Thank you for showing such respect toward her beliefs. It's why i watch your channel. You are soft spoken and very careful and respectful of the things these people leave behind from their lives. Those things had meaning to the people who left them. And your gentleness in their handling is good to see. Thank you. And happy safe exploring.
I can’t wait! I’m a new subscriber. I found a couple of your videos and have been binge watching ever since. Thank you for uploading these videos, there is so much history in each and everyone of these homes. Stay safe and Healthy!
Does anyone ever go to these sights to rescue the items you come across? It seems a shame for them to be lost to time and decay. I got my mother and dog hooked on your show. We all sit down together to watch them and we love how respectful you are.
Another absolutely beautiful abandoned mansion! What a surprise to have the very best bits at the end! Its also sad though, to know so many beautiful things are going to decay away and not be available to others who would love and care for them for years to come!
This is amazing thank you! Those “scissors” are used to move logs and that stove says morning start No1. Your voice and the way you’re so careful is terrific. It’s too bad you can’t take the stoves and stuff and bring them back to life and history. You’re amazing thank you again!
So cool that you found that part of the house that still has so much life left! I was in shock seeing how nice it was. With so much damage done to the majority of the place. Great job guys!!
If Miranda was anything like my mother she probably refused to move to wherever her children now lived. I was fortunate in having a husband who was supportive of me living with my mother In Norway for nearly 10 yrs even though I came back to the US as often as I could. My mother finally agreed to move to my home on our farm in Colorado 3 yrs before she died at 112 in 2018.
Yes, just like my father who continued to live alone in our Texas home until age 92, following our mother's death 15 years earlier. We tried everything to get him to move near one of the 3 of us siblings living in other states. Eventually, he was forced to move near my younger sister in Oklahoma! Since his maternal Grandmother lived to be 120 yrs in East Texas, we were sure he would live to be at least 100 yrs old! Unfortunately due to the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic (he was a "people person") he checked out at 94 yrs old, peacefully & painlessly.
Lesley this is one of the best homes you have ever shown. I absolutely love the feel of this place. The chapel and the additional areas you found at the end. I felt at home in her kitchen area with that beautiful corner cabinet and the beautiful dishes and pots loved. Okay tell Danny there is at least one lady in the USA that has those doilies and crochet little things as well as my older mother who put them under pretty things but also use to cover pitchers and pots so nothing like dust dirt get in. Also to set hot items on or carry. Stunning stained glass on windows and the exquisite tiles. All great. You could really feel the lady's spirit everywhere. Especially at the end and the court yard. Awesome job. You guys were so enjoyable to watch. Stay Safe. Maybe the church could go and recover some of those religious items. So nice. I mean they did help her at the end. Give them to the church or a poor family for their homes. Peace for you guys. As always Lesley you took us on a fairytale journey. Love you. Could listen to you forever. You make my day with your story telling. Your parents should be so proud of you. Lovely soul. 🥰💒😊🙏🖤💜💙💚💛🧡❤❣💗🙋♀️

It looks like more than one family lived there. And it a shame the family o the county doesn’t restore it for museum. Thank you for your bravery. I like antiques also.
As you are going through the bed rooms, after the chapel you said "it won't take long before the whole place just completely collapses "... I can't help but think of that gorgeous chandler...it will smash into a thousand pieces when that day comes...So sad, such a waste of beauty.
Great tour Lesley. I liked the plant room with all the windows best. I could not find Danny's link in the description. I would definitely check it out if I knew what it is called.
18:24 That beautiful, beautiful stove! How sad to see it homeless, and it would be worth so much here. Lesley, bless your precious heart, it’s not “paws,” it’s ‘claws,’ because birds have claw feet. But you know what, I have gotten so used to hearing you say “paws” and I absolutely love the way you say it, like someone ever so softly exclaiming when they’ve found a wonderful secret, so I will never again correct you on that. You can call claw feet “paws” all you want and if you don’t ever want to change that, well, it’ll be just fine with me! I do hope you guys give yourselves a good brushing off after leaving those places. Spider webs with egg sacs, yeah. Brush yourselves off really well guys. Love you 😘. Safe travels always!
This house was inherited . There is no way built in the early 1900's. They must of moved in it then. This is a much older place as you can tell of the big bricks that is in the walls. Ive been studying this for a while now.
I think you're right about the house was built before the time they say 1930. But what do you think at 10:45 ? the ion work on the balcony look likes 1931 with something that looks like alphabet letters and he says that's the date of the house was built and G A is family name Gasper.
That last sitting area where the plants would’ve been is absolutely gorgeous! The little things that were crocheted were to put under hot pans. I love the glass work in the windows it’s just stunning! The chapel is beautiful. I would’ve loved to of seen this before the decay - I bet it was spectacular! The respect that you show for these places is great. Take care and happy Easter.

Fabulous! I loved the bird cages in the corridors. What a lovely idea...built in bird cages. 🥰 Also loved the incredibly beautiful windows and the way they lined the courtyard. So open and bright! You can almost hear children running and laughing down the long corridors, playing in the colorful light patterns from the stained glass. Thank you for another fantastic exploration!!!

Shame on the children who did not take her in or help her. My grandfather was Portuguese and it is very interesting to see these homes.
Yes I agree you should always help your parents in need!
Maybe there is an inheritance tax like many countries which they can't afford? I know in Japan that is the case
Yes I was wondering that myself such a huge house they probably provided for a lot of the family members so why was there no help at the end and she went to the church in the end. Was there a family member at the church? Yes you should always look out for older family members especially your own parents for goodness sake. May she rest in peace.
Yes, how could they let the matriarch live alone in that big house for 18 years.
@@constance9789 me too
what I do not understand is why the remaining family does not come to reclaim the remining items. If I knew my great grandparents place was still there with things in it I would go get it. It is so sad to see all the personal belongings still there just rotting away. Some of the cookware is very expensive.. sad, so sad!!
I exactly agree what u said.
I would be so sad if the things that meant something to me were left to rot and decay. I hope all my friends and family would come through and take pieces of my life and happy "artifacts" away with them. I hope that young families just starting out or college students would take my furniture.
I agree completely
There’s probably enough stuff there that can be sold and they could probably use that money to redo all or part of the estate...

I live in a little house in the forest, strange to think that when I have gone someone will be looking through all my stuff like this.

That scenery when you first came in was such a beautiful sight what a nice place to live
Really! Sad to see the chandelier and chapel

Nice words Suzanne , how are you doing ?
Our town had an F5 tornado. Afterward people could not go back into their homes to salvage clothes or personal items because of bacteria and mold. The lady probably could not salvage her items safely so had to leave them. 😢
18:06 This stove is quite a find! The company that manufactured it was Smith/Wellstood Colombian. The front of the stove is Morning Star No. 1. This parlour stove dates back to the early to mid 1800's.
Nice words Patricia , how are you doing ?

This is an amazing explore, Lesley and Dani!
The decaying of this huge house happened over a long period of time.

You asked why she didn't take her things with her to the monastery. I thought when you entered a monastery you had to give up all of your worldly possessions. That might explain it, unless I'm wrong about that.
It’s true, they take very minimal items with them but those items are given in for safe keeping (only a few small personal items allowed tho)
Plus there would be no need for any furniture or other items. Anything valuable like jewelry and cash would be given to the church. The three vows are poverty, obedience and chastity.

Many of the architectural features of this place look much older than 1931. I wonder if the date merely reflects the date they acquired the property? Super fascinating video. Great job Leslie!!
I agree. Maybe the date of 1932 is merely the date the iron balustrades were added. The house and building style is much older. Sooo interresting!

@@joaom243 why doesn’t your family go there and rescue those beautiful family heirlooms?
Que maravilla !! Siento que lo he recorrido con ustedes ,eres un guía excelente ,llevas el relato con misterio y espectativa ,así lo haces más fascinante aún ,mil gracias !!!
It looks like a boarding house for seniors. So sad to see those antiques falling through the floors.
Portugal is beautifull.
The Nun , her place on earth ...
Maybe she found peace and beauty there...
