Hey mate, cool video, I've also been to a few of the USS auctions in person, amazing experience. Just wanted to point out something to viewers not familiar with grading system: At 3:40 you mention your surprise that it got a "3" versus an "R" So the R grade just means it's been "repaired" from an accident of some sort, could be big, could be minor. R grades can sometimes be in bad shape, but I've seen plenty of R grades that are even better than many "4" grades. You are right that usually with body panels being replaced it should be considered "R," but if it has been done just as modification and not due to an accident, it will usually not get the R grade. The "3" grade is pretty much the lowest grade you can get before you get into the problem grades (1, 2, ***), which are grades that are only handed to non-running or parts vehicles. So 3 means it could have been in an accident but not fully repaired, or it could mean in generally poor shape but still running and driving. I'd usually steer clear from them, as I've purchased 3 grades prior but they cost me so much to restore I could have gotten a nice 3.5 or great 4 instead for the money. TLDR; R grades doesn't necessarily mean a bad grade, but 3 does. I would definitely opt for a clean car with an "R" grade vs. a poor condition 3 grade. I also agree that some of the grades seem off and inspectors may be paid off. Last week a 300ZX went up for sale with some rust and bad paint in multiple spots, it seemed to me that it should have received a 3.5, that 4 grade made me really suspicious...
I always thought a grade 3 car is either a grade R or just in poor condition as I've seen cars that have been through different auctions and with those grades swapped. As for grade R, I'd usually avoid them but grade RA cars can be pretty good. The best place to look for in auction sheet is the body report, as replaced panels are marked with "XX", if the whole front end has been replaced, it's usually a red flag, if only the hood is replaced, I wouldn't think much of it.
I want a Toyota century because of the fancy look to it. It was so fancy that only like three people were certified to paint the car in the entire company. Some crazy stuff to make it look great.
The thing right now is the gap in cars. Since most of the Japanese auto makers stopped making sports cars in 2001-2002 and only started again recently (the exception being the 350z) there is a 5-10ish year gap in cars. Because of this you either buy new, buy cars that are only a few years used (which end up being not much cheaper than new), or, like everyone has been doing for 20ish years, you buy old cars from the 80s and 90s. The problem is that these old 80s and 90s cars were cheap back so everyone bought them, now with so few left and demand rising the supply is drying and prices are soaring. Also now with the global shortage of computer chips not many new cars are getting made so that's even more demand on the used market. When all the 90s cars are gone in few years (either rusted to death, crashed into oblivion, or show pieces in someone's collection) people are probably going to have to move to 350zs that have started showing up used. Problem is that in that period of time there was really only evos, WRXs, and 350z/370z, until you get to the GT86/BRZ which is still too new to go for good prices used. If you look at it from a dates perspective (Only looking at Japanese cars). Rear wheel drive, 2 door: Prelude: End of production 2001 Silvia: End of production 2002 Supra MkIV: End of production 2002 RX-7: End of production 2002 370Z: End of production 2020 (RIP to the legendary line of the Z, 1969-2000, 2002-2020) MX-5: Ongoing GT 86/BRZ: Start of production 2012 (25 years after it's namesake, the AE86 ended production) Supra MkV: Start of production 2019 (17 year gap) Four wheel drive, 2 door: Eclipse GSX: End of production 1999 Mitsubishi 3000GT: End of production 2000 Skyline GT-R: End of production 2002 Celica GT-Four: End of production 2006 GT-R: Start of production 2009 (7 year gap and completely different price point and target demographic) Four wheel drive, 4 door: EVO: End of production 2016 WRX/STI: Ongoing So there is a gap in the early 2000s, only the WRX, EVO, MX-5, and Z series bridge this gap, and two of those are now dead. The WRX is the only 4 door 4-wheel drive left. The GT-R is the only 4-wheel drive coupe left and it's price puts it out of the standard "sports car" market into contention with luxury brands like Porsche. We have three options in the rear-wheel drive coupe section but all at different price points and purposes (the MX-5 and 86 are closer in price, but one is roadster). Miatas are way overpriced used as it is and the few 350Z and 370Zs out there are going to be the only relatively good stock entering the used market until the 86/BRZs start drifting in. The only good thing I can see is that the Civic Type-R is also a thing now at a somewhat decent price point. To give an idea on the issue with price, a Spec-R B Package S15 retailed for 2,290,000 Yen, or $20,760 back in 2000, this roughly $32,450 in 2021 cash. To give us something to relate this to, the MX-5 sold for $23,000 in 2000. A 2021 hardtop MX-5 is $34,100 with no upgrades, which is generally following inflation. Basically there were cheapish sports cars. There aren't really any cars like this anymore. The Supra MkV is perhaps a good analog for this. The Supra we all know and love is a 6-cyl, but Toyota does sell a turbo inline 4. Turbo i4 rear-wheel drive coupe, a perfect match up for the S15. It goes for $43,090, with no upgrade, absolutely bone stock, and that's MSRP. It's $10,500 more than the a spec'd Silvia would be in todays money. The 6-cyl turbo is $51,090 for the stock version, which is actually a better price than the MkIV turbo, which was $40,500 in 1998 (or about $66,000 in 2021). This is the point, you have NA cars like the MX-5 and 86/BRZ at $30-35k, then you have a single 4-cyl turbo option at $43k, and then you get into the 6-cyl which is the Supra at $51k, and the GT-R at $114k (whereas an R33 cost $77k new, in 2021 money). Even if you get a BRZ and try to turbo it, you're going to end up having to do a lot more work to get it turbo'd as the standard FA20 is not really built for this. It can be done, but it will cost, and you can't run high boost without changing some internals to allow for this. It's important to note that the FA20DIT in the WRX is quite different than the standard FA20, and even it has well documented problems with con-rods when it's pushed, and by problems I mean punching holes in the engine kinda problems. Conversely, for the same price, in 2021 cash, you could get yourself a B package Spec-R S15, factory turbo'd, and well suited for modding and tunning.
You do know they have things called welders, and patch panels to fix those areas, cars aren't just written off because of a little bit of rust that can be repaired

At 31:44 you point out how the old Soarers (Z20) used to be able to be bought for $500... that was probably a while back, around 5 years ago you could still by a clean one for about $5k. But the one you're pointing out isn't a normal Z20 Soarer, it's a 1/500 Aerocabin model. And that one was in really nice shape, I know, because I almost bought it. I have one as well, but mine was a 3 grade and it still cost me a pretty penny. Clean ones are selling for $20-25k at auction and I've seen one sell at auction here in the U.S for $55k a couple months ago (at Barret Jackson auction).
I bought the 180 4 mins in today. I think you’ve your understanding of the grading wrong. Especially on the Chaser 3 mins in. R grade is recorded repair history. 3 is below average condition. You’ll find cars with repair history (and detailed in the auction sheet things like inner wing repair, rear panel repair, radiator support replacement) on non R grade cars because they haven’t had an officially recorded accident.
24:50 that's a 1988 Italdesign Aztec sporting a 200 hp 5 cyl Audi engine. The second steering wheel is probable a conversion, these care were LHD and only 18 were ever produced
Would love to see a price list of some of the dream cars you come across at auctions! I’ve been eyeing off buying an S chassis or an AE86 for many years, so seeing “realistic” examples of them and then the price that specific car sells for would be epic 👍
A ca18det 180sx was my first car back when I was 18, like 18 years ago when imports where everywhere in Australia! Was an amazing time to grow up with awesome cars everywhere and affordable too!
Yeah after the 180sx my next car was a FC RX7, all my mates had them we were like a rotor crew good times! Bought it uncomplienced for like $5,000 off an importer, on road was like $8,000 such a fun car for the money, when it was running ha ha
They’re the original position for the wing mirrors on those cars. A previous owner must have moved the mirrors to the more common (and useful) position on the door/A-pillar.
for the next auction you go to, could you try to find a left hand drive JDM spec E30? maybe give some info about it too as most people don’t know at them even existing
I don’t nowhere near have enough money yet.. but I’m hoping to import from Japan eventually - however the panic of being scammed/ripped off is always on my mind 😳
Good info about the reality of auction buying, a response to Kevin Mali's vid? Can you or your mates help find him some reasonably priced replacement rear quarters for his '32? Are spares for these panels available? Ciao, Colin.
One of my first cars might actually ve an 87 Mazda rx7 that needs a break line replacement, not to shabby for something that old and stock, guy was asking 8 grand. Downside is I am up north so the thing will sit in the garage for a few months during the dry season, even when i don't exactly have to worry about salt during the wet seasons ill still probably clean the thing every few days to keep it in top shape.
18:26 that Stagea should be scrapped? Tf? That rust isn’t as bad as the ones we have in Australia and they’re kicking about still. Now if you looked at the chassis rails, pillars and firewall and saw anything more than surface rust, I’d probably agree with you but the rust you showed us was not so bad and easily fixed. Also bonnets are replaceable or remove it and repair it easy as.
whats a bulletproof specification celsior wish i could have seen that one sell. Curious what it went for that was really nice. 47,000km so clean my god
Is it normal for R33 to have "xx" marked on the sheet for the fenders and hood, because they are made of fiberglass? Maybe it's a common upgrade because they don't rust?
that stagea rust was not even bad thats like a 2hour job fix if it isnt rusted out in the firewall or anywhere else in hidden in the chassy which i doubt
The engine mounts on the 180ax arnt shot. They are just soft from the factory, the s13s are notorious for shaky engines. I always seem to catch you out on your knowledge on the s13. Not trying to get you pissed but at least is should give you an idea of how much s13 stuff you just don't know about XD

The Supra had a VVTI motor (blue cover) which was fitted to the facelift Supra’s - 97 onwards IIRC. My friend has a JDM 97 VVTI facelift here in the UK. Although that one was definitely an Aristo motor as the plate said GE not GTE

Problem is that in that period of time there was really only evos, WRXs, and 350z/370z, until you get to the GT86/BRZ which is still too new to go for good prices used.
If you look at it from a dates perspective (Only looking at Japanese cars).
Rear wheel drive, 2 door:

Would love to see a price list of some of the dream cars you come across at auctions! I’ve been eyeing off buying an S chassis or an AE86 for many years, so seeing “realistic” examples of them and then the price that specific car sells for would be epic 👍
A ca18det 180sx was my first car back when I was 18, like 18 years ago when imports where everywhere in Australia! Was an amazing time to grow up with awesome cars everywhere and affordable too!
Same, I loved that little 180sx, I got mine in 1997/8. Not too many imports on the road back then, folk thought it was an RX7!
Yeah after the 180sx my next car was a FC RX7, all my mates had them we were like a rotor crew good times! Bought it uncomplienced for like $5,000 off an importer, on road was like $8,000 such a fun car for the money, when it was running ha ha
the marks on the century's fenders might have been for flags
They’re the original position for the wing mirrors on those cars. A previous owner must have moved the mirrors to the more common (and useful) position on the door/A-pillar.
Please explain the bidding system. Why is the price increasing when it is in "sold/red" and how do the klicker works? Maybe in another auction video?
I am going to guess that means the reserve price has been met. Just guessing.
for the next auction you go to, could you try to find a left hand drive JDM spec E30? maybe give some info about it too as most people don’t know at them even existing
I don’t nowhere near have enough money yet.. but I’m hoping to import from Japan eventually - however the panic of being scammed/ripped off is always on my mind 😳
oh my god YES
sadly if you want to import without flying over to see the car, you just need to pay the price for a reputable import dealer to do it for you
@@colemantrebor1610how you find them?

Top secret supra by Smokey Nagata
I don’t think it’s Smokey’s personal supra but another supra with Top secret mods on it.
There where multiple of these kits sold and all painted gold to match smokeys. The real one i believe is owned by a collector in the states.
@@octagon_009 Yes Instagram:@jdmsupreme he got a ass full of money
@@connoisseuroftigolbitts No, when I said “Smokey’s personal supra” I meant the one that did the top speed run in Britain. Definitely not THAT one.
Smokeys Supra had an V12
I just moved to Tokyo, any ideas on visiting auctions and stuff to watch out for? Hoping to go to some auctions in Tokyo soon
You clearly have not lived anywhere it Snows ❄much love from Detroit 👍 THANX Great content congratulations on 400 k ✌
Good info about the reality of auction buying, a response to Kevin Mali's vid? Can you or your mates help find him some reasonably priced replacement rear quarters for his '32? Are spares for these panels available? Ciao, Colin.
🤍
The Supra had an blown engine which was replaced with the aristo engine
Love these videos plese never stop these we learn alot from em
This is like a dream come true! I would love to bid any of those cars no cap
Facts and you won't really don't many older cars like this & they being picky about their selections besides that dumb ahh Miata tho 😂
@@littleshadow2707 That makes zero sense.
Behind that white Stagea was a purple GC8 Subaru😍 beautiful
Bro when I got my 1974 Dodge Charger the whole floor was rusted out and the frame was bad, it’s crazy that you think those cars need to be scraped lol
That Sileighty really caught my eye,
mostly because mako drives one in Initial D
Big congrats on 400K There is a good reason for a big following..........cool dude cool content.
I love that he still does those cute Lil shoes digs lol.if you know you know
Very informative, loved the vid! ive been looking to get something from japan into the states for awhile now so its nice seeing a up to date video!
Yeah, that is a 2nd Gen Toyota Aristo JZS-161 turbo 2JZ engine swap done there!
@25:09 You walk by a Classic Camaro and you say nary a word...that is wrong! lol Good stuff though!
whats a bulletproof specification celsior wish i could have seen that one sell. Curious what it went for that was really nice. 47,000km so clean my god
20:32 lmaooooo nicole reference ahahahahahha
Laughed so hard😂😂😂
Whats the average price of a clean s15 spec R on the auctions over there, does anyone know?
€10
It's amazing that they hav'nt banned you from their auctions as you saying about how they cheat on their car conditions and discription
31:50 watching the numbers going up is stressing me out thinking the auctions are gonna be a steal. BOIIII WAS I WRONG 😂 .... (crying in the inside)
Lol honestly. I thought maybe buying a car in Japan would be cheeper boy was I wrong you gotta be a baller to even step in that auction 😭
@@charlycabrera3320 exactly what I'm saying! I need to see more auction bids! 😂
Sammit ever think that you were one of the only living bodies laying in the back of that car
Is it normal for R33 to have "xx" marked on the sheet for the fenders and hood, because they are made of fiberglass? Maybe it's a common upgrade because they don't rust?
The blue 350z is the car Sam's gonna buy for sure
He was interested in that for sure. That's why he specially took a photo of the starting bid price tag.
that stagea rust was not even bad thats like a 2hour job fix if it isnt rusted out in the firewall or anywhere else in hidden in the chassy which i doubt
I want to see more of that evo at 26:19
The engine mounts on the 180ax arnt shot. They are just soft from the factory, the s13s are notorious for shaky engines. I always seem to catch you out on your knowledge on the s13. Not trying to get you pissed but at least is should give you an idea of how much s13 stuff you just don't know about XD
I would definitely buy that century and put a 18k brilliant exhaust😉
yeah but I don't get it why didn't he it's around 250$
I can't believe you walked past the green soarer! Those cars are so fun man.
Man I need to visit a car lot in Japan someday
17:30 that "corrosion " happens when the car is parted up. It happened to my car when I parted it up. (My country has no snow)
Someone's yandere GF take a key to the poor green Mazda of what?
Man that would be a dream, so many nice cars! Too bad the prices now a days are so outrageous. This was really cool to see though, thanks for sharing Sammit!
26:40
You Literally just skipped a top secret supra built by Smokey to see a clapped out R34 smh
Yeah i quit watching then
I was going to make the same comment, but if you actually watched the rest before commenting, he recognized it looked like a legit Top Secret car after a few... And yes I know Sam is pretty ignorant about a lot of cars, but at least his intuition was correct here.
Because someone else was looking at it already.
He went back to it......
@@cd5sircoupe yeah SAM isnt a huge fan of supras
@@connoisseuroftigolbitts Sam's pretty ignorant on a lot of topics. Here's hoping he expands his horizons a bit in the near future.
Great work Sammit 👍 love watching your auction vids
Sam is back, HELL YEAH
11:07 that engine is a 2jz with the latest vvti and the last 2jz made its ment to be their but I think it was not properly place
IDK if im correct that is a AE86 toyota sprinter on timelpse 2:00
It's so true. Grading system is broken. They don't even put rust on the sheet anymore. Best to pay for an Inspection through a trusted contact.
Hi Sam did you manage to find the Price of the Nissan 350z you took a picture of?
Time 18:40, wat website is it for those cars bekause I Ben looking for a gtr R34 4 door n I like the blue

awsum 6ro... luv ur thoroughness man & knowledge on what to look out for in situations wen 6uying a vehicle
Love these auction videos Sammit! Thanks for the awesome content
Would you rather have a stagia wagon or a mark 2? I love both and both would staisfy my goals
Right about getting the car checked I get a personal mechanic to check any car I’m after before I buy it great vid man !
MKIV Turbo Supra transmissions manual are a V160. R154's were in MKIII's. V160's are selling for more than GTE motors :(
The Supra had a VVTI motor (blue cover) which was fitted to the facelift Supra’s - 97 onwards IIRC. My friend has a JDM 97 VVTI facelift here in the UK. Although that one was definitely an Aristo motor as the plate said GE not GTE
Love these auction vids sam
On the white 34 Gtt isn’t that the altea body kit? As much as I know nismo never made parts for the 34gtt
How much was the Century sold for?
I've been wanting one but I haven't looked into it in a few months
It went for around 12k
