Liked this one better than the last; they at least explained why they didn't send down a squad of dudes (weird we're worried about a place sacred to a species that's extinct though, especially with the fate of the universe in the balance). Like Rayner a lot, but question the whole "Saru must leave the ship" thing, when he basically solved the puzzle in the necropolis and anyone else would have gotten killed.
I mean, the mission ain't REALLY over until the Progenitor tech is either in their hands, lost forever or destroyed, right?

Yeah I find it strange that Saru HAS to leave the ship right now, during a red directive mission. Perhaps it'll be explained as part of his new role, or maybe they're writing the character out until later in the season like they did with Tilly last season.

I give it a 7/10. I'd given up on "Discovery"; didn't watch any of the last season. These first 2 episodes are a promising start. Hope they can keep it up.

I'm not sure how this compares to last season yet, I recall having the same feeling of improvement for the first couple of episodes (always seems to happen with this show) before it descended into silliness. Promising and has potential for sure, but we'll have to wait and see, won't we?

Lots of dumb action in this one. Even Discovery's own similar episode "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum" had a interesting dramatic story. This asked the question, what would you do if you lost all of your fear?. And instead of K-Mart Gardens in the Volume Stage, we got a real park with some great cgi painted aliens and landscapes. You said you liked Saru and Burnham doing their Indiana Jones, but I thought it was mostly superficial action with a sentence or two of their greatest hits
The great thing about this episode is there was no TOS character assassination. Nor do we get lines like "That cherry that they just dropped on our shit Sunday left us with 20 warp signatures" or even high school counselor Culber: "Locking something away and moving on are two very different things".
Now, the scene with Burnham and Raynor where she says "Everyone deserves a second chance, like what was given to me", I felt was just contrived. You talked about this being 'character development' but I thought it was plot contrivance. There is no way Burnham would accept this guy. It just shows real desperation on the part of the writers to appease the critics. They learned from STP3 and SNW. They grab other Star Trek episodes (in this case The Chase and Arsenal of Freedom), bring in a character that looks like Data, show a memberberry of Picard, and have their Shaw character in Raynor. They cut Discovery's hallmark over-emotionalism and soap opera.
I think it is a vast improvement from the first episode, and from seasons 3 and 4 in general.

I think it's terrible writing and even worse acting but with a huge CGI budget trying to cover all that up. I'm glad it's ending. It's cringe and corny. As in even TNG Picard in a skirt uniform is less corny than Discovery. I've only been watching it because it's "Star Trek" but it is without a doubt just "hate watching" because my god it's so bad. So bad my eyes are now permanently stuck looking at the ceiling from rolling my eyes so many times every time I have to listen to/watch a dialogue scene bad.
Looking forward to the season and show ending so I can go back to pretending it never existed in the first place.
    0/10

So true. The most woke garbage ever. The story gets abandoned for the message it wants to convey.

@@WHCOMEGAWEAPON I mean I can suspend disbelief all day long, but I've never once seen a fat lady run in real life. Simply because nobody has. A lot of these DEI hires are never going to get another gig.
