This song is Dangerously Celestial. I am a grown man now, but still remember the feeling it gave me when I first heard it. I am now a grown man and a musician, yet I weep like a child when I hear such a beautiful and enchanting melody. Truly one of my favorite songs of all times. Short, yet so very powerful. I am going to attempt to sing this over since I haven't anybody else do it yet. Hopefully I will be able to match just how amazing this song has been to me, and give that gift to others for years to come. God bless you Maury Laws and Jules Bass for allowing the Divine Creator to place such love bomb on your hearts to share with the world. Epicly beautiful from the beginning to end.
Genuinely one of the most underrated and greatest Christmas songs of all time. this song has brought me to tears every time I listen to it without failure. The Vienna Boys Choir are the true legends of Christmas Music.
Me too! They came to Indiana State University in Terre Haute, in December of 1982 when I was a freshman in college. I drug some of my sorority sister fellow pledges to see it. Their final song was The Little Drummer Boy.
Me too. Always cry at the manger side scene too. I’m a pretty sober ol’ gal and don’t cry readily at a lot of things but I readily weep over the music and message of this little stop motion movie.
Jeez. Immediate tears. The first time I heard it, watching this special on TV when I was a kid, I was crying. And I do ANY time I hear it, certainly every Christmas when we watch all of these specials. Just immediate tears. Not sobbing, just that breathtaking, deep, bittersweet feeling that musical beauty creates in your heart which lumps up in your throat and comes out as tears. I get it with so many wonderful pieces of music from all over genres and styles... and this one is as powerful and moving to me as any. Maury Laws once said this particular music came to him whole and complete. What a blessing for him and all of us.
This song is so beautiful never fails to make me cry. Why isnt this shown or played on the radio instead of the incessant pop music we hear every Christmas season. Children used to have programs like this when we lived in a more reverent time.
I have also searched for this song on all of The vienna boys choir cd's. to no avail, what a shame but it is here in my favorites to enjoy whenever I want. Glad to know I am not alone in seeing the beauty in this song and Christmas special! Merry Christmas!!!
Unfortunately this piece was never published. It was composed for the Vienna Boy’s Choir specifically for this film. In my opinion, this particular group of boys performing is one of the best choirs the Vienna Boys Choir has ever produced.
@@klassicalkid90 It was published... on a promotional record for The Little Drummer Boy & Mouse on the Mayflower. That's where this recording came from...
Christmas doesn't begin.. until I hear this song. I purchased the movie not realizing it was this song that drew me to watch it every year. Tears.. it just brings me to tears.
Arron must make a man’s journey as a mere boy, and come to a life changing realization. Christ was truly on his side the full time. Even when the boy lost his family
A beautiful, beautiful song and film. Absolutely love all Rankin and Bass classics. Such a staple film for Christmas time. Just finished watching it; Christmas day 2019.
You can sense Gods love in this clip if your heart is not harden nor lifted up in pride and is humble. Count it a privilege that God shows Himself to you.
Such a beautiful song , I was touched by it as a child, the entire movie of the Little Drummer Boy has always brought tears to my eyes not just the story if the little drummer boy but the way they shared the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ ♥ beautiful everything about it.
Truly exquisite!!!!!!!! I remember the first showing of this in1968, and it is still my favourite Christmas special. A truly marvelous song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I listen to this song my heart becomes soft and my eyes become teary; not out of sadness; but from hope in the knowledge that on that night many years ago in the City of David a Saviour was born onto man; the ultimate gift of love that if I embrace it I will know unconditional love and perfect peace
I’m an atheist. I don’t believe that Jesus was born on December 25th. However, this always gets me on the verge of tears. The choir, strings, and glockenspiel mix so gorgeously, like an angel’s kiss.
one of the must see Christmas Specials every year and the song is as good as it gets. Big Fan of The Little Drummer Boy. It's #3 right after Rudolph and Charlie Brown.
This ios one of the most beautiful Christmas songs ever penned, certianly one of the best for a TV show. I am amazed it never entered the choral repertoire. Thanks so much for posting this.
I remember this song when I was little and my grandpa would always sing this to me when I was 5 now he’s in heaven with my grandma and I miss them already 🙏🏻😭❤️
First of all I would like to say Merry Christmas to all! And second. I can remember hearing this song for the first time and was so disappointed to learn that I was unable to locate it until I came upon the internet and was so glad that I was finally able to listen to this mesmerizing Christmas classic whenever I wanted. And will always be one of my personal favorite Christmas songs of all time.
Thank you for posting this song. I've always thought it was very beautiful since it was in "The Little Drummer Boy." I wish the Vienna Boys Choir would put it on CD or on iTunes.
It's so beautiful my friend. Just brings me back and like you instant tears at its sheer heavenly sound. Maybe the most beautiful 2 minutes in history.
I know your comment is four years old, but I had to agree. If I'm not in tears already, that beautiful phrase on the first violin takes me there. So gorgeous.
Lovely, lyrical and yes, makes me cry...the cello solo is a surefire tear trigger along with those beautiful young male voices from Vienna. Merry Christmas, 1917 and forever after....
A very pretty song. In this film is the only time or place I have ever heard it. I remember the program from my youth. Unfortunately, don't ever recall hearing the song anywhere else.
It's so pretty, indeed. I wish people wouldn't be so afraid of singing more religious christmas songs like this. Christmas is not just all about cosumerism and giving-and-getting. There is also the solemn aspect that the Christians feels on this particular day. For them, Christmas, above all else, is about stopping one's hectic life to remember, that, long ago...a man, closer to God than anyone else was born and would lead them to overcome humankind's wrongdoings and show them (even today) the way to be closer to God and, perhaps, even to their real selves. Now, it is true that not everyone is Christian, but still, one can appreciate the beauty, serenity and trust associated within these songs. My point is, I find it quite sad that many people immediately labeled religious songs as ''old'', ''brainwashing'', ''stupid'' or thinks of the songs as ''dangerous songs that will instill nonsense in my children''.
Since my very first viewing of this in 1968, I have loved this song and wondered how in the world to find it~ earlier searches prooved fruitless. Thank you, thank you for posting this lovely, moving song!
Great song and like you Kaizer2000, I've been looking for this song for years also. I bought the DVD not only because I love the Little Drummer Boy story, but also because this song is so hauntingly beautiful I could never forget it.
One of my absolute favorite songs of Christmas ever since I was a child, could only hear it when this show--also the best Christmas special--came on TV. I've never been able to find it on an album or CD, THANK YOU for posting this! Vienna Boys Choir should give this song another go.
Maury Laws wrote many wonderful songs for Rankin/Bass, but this is definitely his best one, without a doubt. It is so beautifully written, it could easily pass for a Victorian Christmas hymn. It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. And it's hard to believe this is from the same guy who wrote the Heat Miser song!
I've loved the songs of Maury Laws since childhood - it's one of the main reasons I watch these Christmas shows. I've never heard a Maury Laws song I didn't like. He's an underrated musical genius, as far as I'm concerned.
@@BrianBellia fully agree. He's one of my musical heroes. My favorite full Laws score is Mad Monster Party -- front to back a fantastic and fun composition.
