In this video, I'll go over the recently released Lackadaisy pilot episode, while giving some background and fun facts and whatnot about the series as a whole and making fun of it all
(Spoiler warning (not that it should matter (because it's a pilot episode (but i'm going over the entire pilot episode while pointing out what i like about it))))

Mordecai first shoot actually will hit Rocky if he didn't frantically steer the car away, Rocky actually know the shoot was coming because Mordecai used to work with Lackadaisy back in the day so he's familiar with Mordecai line of work.
And why Mordecai doesn't shoot Ivy is because he purposely let her go out of his loyalty toward Atlas not because he can't shoot her.
If anything Mordecai pretty much hold himself back almost the entire time, except when it's against Freckle since Freckle is a fresh member who join after the former defection so they have almost 0 familiarity with each other.
Corrections & things I forgot to mention:
1. Lackadaisy takes place *near Louisiana, not in it (i have failed my geography teacher)
2. The limestone caves where the speakeasy is located are real places in Missouri! (its just like minecraft)
3. Lackadaisy is still accepting donations! If you want to, head to their website to find their Patreon link! (they deserve money)
4. When the Kickstarter for Lackadaisy started, it was moments before the stock market crashed! (tracy butler is manipulating the economy)
5. Not only is the violin accurate, but most guns are - both in regards to the era they're in, and the amount of rounds/shots in a clip or whatever (i know jack diddly about guns)
6. As pointed out by many (and something I didn't know), the guidelines are in fact a stylistic choice (I'm dumb and should've figured as much tbh)

Yea, these days most animation uses layers and commando+z so the guidelines are easy to vanish.
However, back in the day, while they did use "layers" (kind of) they were still much more constrained in terms of being able to fix errant lines and mistakes (a good example for this would be aristocrats) due to not working digitally. I'm assuming the faint sketch overlays are in some ways supposed to mimic that feeling of technical constraints leading to a slight roughness.
I feel like I should mention not only do they pay attention to the violin but even the guns were accruate, with the time period accurate weapons, without using ones we commonly believe to be WWI era but arent, as well as keeping round count at times, very neat
Oh yeah, that was noticed by a lot of us gun nerds. Not merely period accurate, but contextually accurate. Serafine's BAR is actually a cut-down version similar to the one used by Clyde Barrow. She also uses the original "walking fire" tactic the BAR was designed for at one point during the chase in the quarry.

I just want too add, as someone who followed the film and is part of the Discord. The guidelines where re-added in post-production to mimic old Don Bluth films and the Xerox(I think that's how you spell it it) period of animation.
That's sick! I didn't know about that at all, I personally haven't watched many Don Bluth films but I know who he is, and if so that's a pretty cool nod! :)

The guidelines in the animation are actually a stylistic choice! The animation goes through 3 stages, the storyboards, the raw animation and then cleanup (plus also compositing after the fact but that is less of an animating endeavor). The way that it's done there is no way the guidelines would be kept in because the job of cleanup artists is to refine and well,, clean up, the raw animation. The guidelines appear kinda randomly because they were a stylistic addition added by the cleanup artists and then softened out in the compositing stage to make them stand out less without erasing them.
Actually, Mordecai used to work for the Lackadaisy before Atlas died, and he knew Ivy which is why he didn’t shoot her, and he probably knows how protective Viktor is of her so if he her to hurt Ivy in any way, while Viktor has a destroyed kneecap (all thanks to Mordecai) he would still probably try to kill him if he were to hurt her.
honestly, when i saw the guidelines, i thought it was 2 things. either it was something of a mistake or something they couldnt remove, OR something that was left intentionally as a kind of way to show a old type of animation, one which is rough, uncleaned, but new and well made.
Ivy did not actually gain access to Lackadaisy by Mitzi, she is Atlas' goddaughter, her dad and Atlas went way back before his death.
5:23 Recently we do have some insight on the future of lackadaisy animation. A few days ago in hunicast hosting Tracy, Fable and the VAs of the Lackadaisy pilot, a question was asked. The question asked if there is kickstarter for future Lackadaisy episodes or if a publisher was already interested. Flowing the question Tracy went on to discuss a backerkit coming this summer for plushies and a repress of the art book and a the comic books. She then sated that they are looking for a more “long term plan”. Fable then piped in to answer the second half of the question, being “…is there a producer interested yet?” Fable answered this question some what allusively, saying that they are hard at work in discussing the futureof lackadaisy talking to “knowledgeable people” about making a “sustainable production happen” as of right now that is all we have. Hopefully we get more details in the future on whether or not a producer has or hasn’t picked them up and the future of animation of the lackadaisy universe.

I discovered Lackadaisy the day the animation premeired, and nothing has ever had such a solid steel grip on me that these silly little gun cats do
I have no doubt that they’re going to make more they spent over three years on this project they’re not just gonna throw it away.
It all depens on money. 300 000$ got us this. They need more to make more. Hopefully they will and we can help them with our wallets. We will always have the comic.

13:23-26 Pretty much sums up my opinion about Mordecai. He's not threatening in the slightest. I'm supposed to see Mordecai as a strategic, and amazing marksman, yet, he shoots like a Stormtrooper from Star Wars. Maybe if Mordecai was introduced to have outwitted Rocky, that would've made him a better villain.

I was´t sure if the voice actors was just youtube people or some who actually work proper in the industry now I am curious to look them up but also the animators and the composer. I mean looking at the budget I am so curious how it was divided. I mean even if the 330 000 was split with 160 animators that would be 2000$ a person which I guess is good depending how many shots was done, what they did with it being mixed with 3D elements, the clean up, rough sketch and everything this is´t a simple matter and 3 years is little time for an half hour run time like this. It´s amazing how they put this togheter so well especially when it was´t planned to be a pilot only a short movie. But they got it and I hope more will come. I just hope everything or as much as possible went well for everyone involved with the work on this. When we can get 2D animation on this level from a INDIE SOURCE then I can´t understand the struggle from studios.
