- History of Power Rangers is a series where Linkara looks at every season of the show and offers critical analysis!
The History of Power Rangers forges ahead with Super Ninja Steel! Will Sledge herald a bold new direction?! ...probably not. Also: an analysis of comedy in a show about people in spandex hitting rubber-suited monsters.

"Maybe I'm overthinking this."
Says the man doing multi-hour retrospective analyses of each season of Power Rangers. ;)
“How do you have Christmas before Jesus existed?”
I ask myself the same question about The Flintstones
The same way every human on Earth gets along with other humans and aliens by the year 2025 while also meant to take place in our Earth. Let that sink in.
Well, at least Koda knew what Christmas is, seeing how, you know, he spent time being in the future.
@@stephen2624 Don't you remember the Eugenics War of 1997?
"Just eat your fuckin' cereal."
I like the notion of Koda inventing Christmas based on his time with the Power Rangers and Santa Claus.
I think it would be interesting if Mack was one of the captured Rangers in "Dimensions". The irony of making robot duplicates of a man who used to be a robot would be crazy.
What if they did, however it short circuited and killed him, and they just threw the body in the trash?
@@Douglas_Props He USED to be a robot, he isn't anymore at the end of Overdrive.
Or the long-forgotten robot duplicates of the Turbo team!
@@Douglas_Props And also that is unnecessarily cruel
Maybe bring Troy back and find out if he was one or if he just acted like one.

uhh that only counts for the purple rocks
Can I tell you one thing the Green Goblin episode doesn't even end with him dying it just ends up abruptly
My personal idea for explaining why the Rangers aren't constantly teaming up: Most of the Rangers likely aee it as "The Grid and the Power have chosen this group of people to deal with this specific threat, and we should let them prove themselves and see their mission through unless an outside threat requires the extra muscle." Every other team up has been "a character from outside the current team's Rogues Gallery appears" so this explanation checks out. The Power picks who should be reaponding to this specific threat, and the veteran rangers respect that.
I love how Gemma's appearance shows how much she's grown as an individual and the implication that the air quality is on her Earth has improved so much that she can breathe this Earth's air unmorphed
i mean, corinth was simulating a "Natural" world compared to the wasteland outside, so i would assume they would have the tech to make Air similar quality to if Earth wasnt mostly waste. unless you're referring to the "why did scott never de-morph" in clash of the red rangers, i chalk that up to lazy writing.
I put it more as Scott being cautious and Gemma not.
@@lilsunny7399 I think it cause they could get Scotts actor to do his voice but for whatever reason he could not be there in person for filiming.
viraltang I think it was actually a contract issue, since RPM was a Disney season and Samurai was a Nickelodeon season, and some clause said that he couldn’t appear in person on any Nick Power Rangers show

I found out a little while ago that the blue Dino Charge ranger and the blue Ninja Steel ranger are IRL brothers. There's even an awesome vid out there of Koda's actor tearing up when he saw his brother revealed as the blue Ninja Steel ranger for the first time at Power Morphicon. I wonder how awesome it must've been to be in the 25th anniversary and the 2nd Christmas episode together!
Koda's actor also cameo in Ninninger, the Japanese Ninja Steel
Casual King There’s also a video of them playing the Power Rangers board game along with another blue ranger
And there's also a video of them doing a Sentai/Power Rangers hand-off
It's also kinda of cool how both brothers are fans of Power Rangers
i mean, it was never acknowledged and only people who care about behind the scenes stuff would know about it. but yeah it was a nice moment.
side note: yoshi himself guest starred on Nininger. the fking Sentai Ninja Steel is adapted from.
how in the inception hells....
In hindsight, I'm glad we were able to get a big JDF presence in this special, as a nice way to send off his character 😢
But it wasn't intended to be a send off. They didn't know Jason David Frank would kill himself.
@@theblackwidower first of all kinda insensitive. Second, that's why they said in hindsight. Third, JDF has stated that he planned this to be Tommy's final appearance in the series, so it may very well be intentional
@ride-playerbb2818 They still didn't need to downplay Wes', Gemma's, and Koda's role in saving the other rangers
Wild Force really paid for having the best team up and anniversary episode. They must be the only Saban Era team that never had any of its rangers show up in a future episode.
... my god you're right!
Well damn, that's true.
I really hope the 30th Anniversary changes that up.
This comment wrinkled my brain. There is slight delight in knowing that red wild force Ranger actor returned as Decker in Samurai. It's the best we got and I'll take it.
@@VEKU786 Isn't the actor that played Decker in jail now?
@@aaa1e2r3 yes, he's in jail, but, for instance, other Wild Force Rangers still show up at conventions, especially Taylor.
It could be nice to see a Wild Force Ranger returning since, right now, they are the only season where a Ranger never returned for another one. Except, now, Ninja Steel, but it just finished.
You know you need help when even Linkara tells you to stop relying on a returning Tommy Oliver.
That’s why having Kat and Rocky, and even Amy Jo in the 2017 movie, was just sooooo nice. And ASJ is coming back in Beast Morphers with Koda, Tyler and Ivan
@@justincarawan-carawanco.pu1639 then, it felt kind of odd, because Tommy was in his 30s. In fact, when someone wondered if he was old enough to be a professor.
Now, if Tommy returns for the next anniversary, he'll be 50. That's when they could realistically have others ask "aren't you really getting to old?"
If MMPR Netflix reunion happens, I hope Tommy is a plot device so everyone else can get character development. I can imagine Jason as an audience surrogate to figure out what the hell is happening, Kimberly becoming a cynical wildcard, Zack's happy-go-lucky personality is more of a mask and Billy being the most responsible adult. As for Trini, writing her character back into the show is something that be handled responsibly.
As for Tommy himself, he could be kidnapped, tortured, broken and manipulated by the villains into fighting his old friends for his freedom. Maybe the villains could be played by Rick Hoffman and Billy Zane.
@@NIDELLANEUM well, Acording Soul of the Dragon last of Tommy's Morphings was when he was in his 60's - 70's so...
Step Hen what Netflix reunion?...
Confirming that Power Rangers has a multiverse was definitely one of this season's best ideas. Like you said, now we can see other universes of Power Rangers without having to go crazy over the continuity. Plus, the fact that Time Force was the group that made the dimension hopping technology is appropriate since, being from the year 3,000, they might have more insight compared to other rangers. Also, from what I've seen from Beast Morphers so far, you're in for a hell for a ride!
Tommy deserves a whole lot of credit, but he's not the only ranger who deserves credit.
Kinda why I love the idea of Shattered Grid. It's like Injustice crossed with Power Rangers.
Hell I like the idea is that everyone before wildforce keeps teasing Tommy in the fact that he keeps collections ranger power sets
He is. Would have liked a return of Jen; Power Rangers' equivalent of Ripley.
Thomas Meehan Yes. Tommy feels overrated.
Copy of a direct comment:
12:45 OK, Lewis/Linkara/Idk, I know you don't judge based on Sentai, but let's get a little perspective.
Ever since season 35, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (I.E. SMF's disappointed father), they have done WAY too much with the whole part-of-a-legacy deal. Virtually every year they find a way to reference Sentai's long history - through dinosaur-Sentai teamups, through various specials corssing over with Kamen Rider. At the center of most of it is Akaranger, the first Red Ranger. Whether it be in movie specials like the Super Hero Taisen series, cameos in Ninninger, or epsidoes bringing back Gokaiger that honestly make it look like you have to get Akaranger's permission to do pretty much anything.
So ladies and gentlemen, let's be grateful that, in no particular order:
1. There was more restraint by Saban than Toei in leaving roughly 4 seasons in between Tommy appearances.
2. Saban's over-reliance on nostalgia only goes back to the 90s and not the 70s.
3. Their banking on the nostalgia by using something that better characterizes Rangers than Sentai - the ever-present sixth Ranger, and finally
4. Tommy's not some diva who insists that he only appear in Ranger suit - looking at you again, Akaranger!
So Tommy's identity as a ranger being known is actually a somewhat clever consequence of Once A Ranger, where both Adam and Kira were paraded as Power Rangers in public. From there, it only takes one geek on the internet to correlate them both to Tommy while they were active rangers, especially with all the extra-curricular activities the original Mighty Morphin' Rangers did.
So now I want to see the epilogue to Once A Ranger where everyone on the ranger teams who kept their identities hidden just ask: "WHAT THE HELL?" of their teammates exposing their identities publicly.
Not to mention typical ranger clothing habits... "Hey, who was that guy who was always wearing green that liked to hang out with those other people who wore bright colors, but switched to white around the time that new ranger appeared, then red when that new team appeared?"
I believe that when Tommy became the Black DinoThunder Ranger he actually said he needed to do some clothes shopping because his wardrobe didn’t contain any black.
@@abcdefghij337 I binged Dino Thunder a few days ago, so I can confirm that he did say he needed to go clothes shopping for black clothes.
@@saphiriathebluedragonknight375 What's funny is if I'm remembering right, he was wearing nothing but black in the early episodes, so that line is kinda funny in hindsight.
@@valen9835 i mean when you look at it like that it is funny but you dont expect him to have the same clothes from 20 years ago lying in his closet. i would assume as soon as he became the green then later white ranger kimberly probably helped him get rid of his old clothes for matching ones to his ranger identity
The special raised a really concerning question. What happened to Tommy's kid?! BOTH of his parents got kidnapped in this special, his dad was napped right at the front door, and NOBODY SAYS ANYTHING MORE ABOUT THIS
He goes on to join SPD as... was it the Green Dragon Ranger? I think that's what he's called.
@@KojinMacJornwell timeline wise it might take place when jj was still a kid and before he joined SPD.

GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNS!
You know with the fact that they establish that Time Force has made the interdimensional travel device it would be really great if Hasbro made a Power Rangers Legacy show where old Rangers come together to defeat some new multiverse ending evil.
also be fun if they found a way to use the rangers from the two mmpr movies in 1995 and 2017.... into the main timeline. have there be 5 dimensions instead of 3.
I like to imagine that Brody and Aiden's dad was there the entire time, we just didn't see him because he's such a good ninja.
Theory - Preston is Koda's descendant. Or just counterpart.
If Dino Charge & Ninja Steel are in the same dimension then I can buy that Preston is Koda's descendant.
I'm going with dimensional counterparts
@@TheNerdHolden I guess the dimensions run on the same logic as Dragonball where there are universes that are similar yet still different such as Universe 6 and 7. I could totally buy that Preston is the prime universe's version of Kota.
Funnily enough, both Koda and Preston actors are brothers in real life. So they can be called the blues brothers.
And in the future Preston would have grandsons marv and joe
You can't let the talk about "best team-up episodes" go by without even mentioning the masterpiece of "To the Tenth Power" + "The Power of Pink". Arguably the most important team-up episode, not because its the first one, but because it is the team-up that has the most lasting consequences in the remainder of the season it's in. Kendrix's death was unprecedented and has never been matched since. Eventhough Lost Galaxy doesn't do as much as they could have with it, it impacts the remainder of the season in a very strong way.
The return of the old Rangers is handled in a pretty organic way without it being "hey we are the old Ranger team, wanna help us fight *Villain that will only appear during this episode and never matter again*?". They also bring back some of the best villains in the history of the show (not their son, cousin, or whatever) with the Psycho Rangers, whose return was adequately set up in the previous season, and handle them in a way were they are still just as strong and menacing as they were in In Space. Both teams get to shine and the threat they face is dangerous enough for the team-up to seem like a necessity more than just a cool thing that happens.
That is actually my personal favorite team up of the franchise.
It's My Favourite PR Team-Up from My Favourite PR Season.
History of the Tommy Oliver Show, ft. the Power Rangers
Thank you so much for calling out the Tommy worship! I love the guy, but I remember watching this episode when it aired (Aug 28th; the day before my birthday) and had mixed feelings because Tommy is one of MANY amazing rangers (some of which have done more amazing things than even him) yet he got so much time, dialogue, etc. devoted to him...
I liked the episode don’t get me wrong but the fact that everyone felt like Tommy’s sidekick rubbed me the wrong way.
@@stephenmarco2927 oh agreed I've watched it like four times since it aired it is WATCHABLE but it tries so hard to pull bits of plot points from the AMAZING Boom Studios PR story line but all the while putting too much focus on Tommy :/
Now imagine if instead of Tommy saving the day (it took everyone else equally to that point) Ninja Steel got their Drill Rex Zord from the Grid itself, taking the most iconic Zord form with the most chaotic energy (as the only morpher of this had 1 use in it and the OD drill needed a robot pilot to withstand the power surge). Tommy can still do his save sure, but the arrow would more serve to create a weak spot on Draven for the drill.
@@aaronolson6736 Or Krugger coming to help. I love Shadow Ranger. Have him come to rescue Sky or Bridge.
Same here. Tommy is my favorite Ranger, but the excessive worship he gets is just too much.
Especially since it comes across as Tommy over shadowing the other rangers.
Hell! 3 of my favorite rangers: Eric the Quantum Ranger, Carter Grayson the Red Lightspeed Ranger, and even the Magna Defender(though weather or not he counts as a ranger is debatable) don't get the same level of attention Tommy gets. And it bugs me.
Gonna just head-cannon it that the Earth got dumped out in some other dimension and those billions of people are all just fine.
Even if it did, they are screwed given no sun, or placed in the solar system in a very unstable position that causes the planet to either A. Crash into another planet, B. Get pulled into the sun, C. Get ejected out of the solar system.
My personal headcanon is that the Ninja Steel Earth is actually the old Earth in a new dimension. So in reality all of PR is one timeline split over two dimensions.
I can see Earth's parachute!
It's the other Earth that was summoned in Kamen Rider Build's finale.
I find it so funny that Nickelodean got a hold of two popular franchises, Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and they actually had the balls to have the Earth be sucked into a black hole and destroyed in BOTH shows! And Ninja Turtles did it first a year before Dini Charge.
I agree 100% about the needing to stop worshiping Tommy.
So many other rangers should get the spotlight these days.
So many others should, but getting them back can become an issue.
Give Cole, Andros, and RJ some worship!
Main problem is most of the old rangers are retired, the ones we see in these anniversary and other specials are the ones willing to come back. Most are retired or busy with other projects, the only time you will see them is at conventions.
Wounded Wales gotta take in that con money when you can
Grant Strader Cole worship is not really likely....

@@Gadzinisko Eddie Guzelian.
@@Gadzinisko Now that it's in Hasbro's hands they just might, we'll just have to wait and see. However just from Beast Morphers first season alone I think it's incredibly clear that the problems for a lot of the Neo Saban era don't just belong to Jonathan Tzachor but Saban as well. As I can actually feel Judd Lynn's expert writing and storytelling now in Beast Morphers. It's not as sharp as it was in say Time Force but this actually feels like something that's come from him again. Now if they could just get off Nickelodon, Hasbro's got their own tv channel to air Power Rangers on so I think it's just a matter of time.
I do hope Guzelian get's another shot some day, he was just put in a bad situation in Rpm but his approach to telling a story was certainly interesting and unique. As I recall he's worked on several animatons that were serilized and I think you can see that in rpm.
I've never watched RPM(as of this reply), but considering how much praise that season has been getting, I may have to watch it one day.
@@nine_tails137 Potential spoiler warning.
You might want to watch RPM before seeing Beast Morphers.
Here's are some other things that I think might've made "Dimensions in Danger" a bit better. The Sentai footage used in this episode came from Ninninger's summer movie. During the climactic Megazord battle against Lord Dravyn's counterpart, the rangers got a new Zord exclusive to that movie that was never used in the regular series. That Zord in question was based on a dragon . . . which was what Tommy's original Power Rangers were based on.
After watching both this episode and the movie, I had this image in my head of the Ninja Nexus Prism showing up in the middle of Dravyn's rampage and Tommy decided to throw the Green Dragon Coin from his Master Morpher into the prism to create the special Zord Star for the Ninja Steel Rangers to use. Once the battle is over, the Rangers throw the Zord Star back into the prism which then reconstitutes it back into Tommy's Dragon Coin, thereby explaining why the Ninja Steel rangers never use the Zord again. Tommy summoning the Falconzord to get rid of the last arrow still probably would've worked, what with the Ninja Steel Megazord distracting Dravyn and everything.
Maybe instead of having Dravyn create an army of Robot Ranger Clones, maybe have him use the Basherbots that Madame Odius gave him and have him use the captured Rangers as a means of providing him a connection with which to infuse them with energy straight from the Morphin' Grid. Then do a full on recreation of the Legendary Battle from Gokaiger and have every Ranger show up in costume to imply that Dravyn had captured ALL of the Rangers the franchise has had thus far. And since they'd still only be able to get the ten veteran Rangers we see here, the others would be played by body doubles that we'd only see from the back or from a distance.
Lastly, I think instead of having Tommy fight the robot clone of himself, have him fight a version of the Lord Drakkon character seem in the "Shattered Grid" comic book storyline and have Dravyn's title be "General" instead of "Lord". Considering how graphic certain parts of the comic book storyline were, they obvious couldn't adapt the story directly, so it would naturally be a significantly watered-down version of that story anyway.
I've taken on Linkara's habit of rambling on and on about this, but I honestly thought these ideas could've made the Anniversary better than it was. What do you guys think?
@Strider Xanthos Technically yes. Even so, Tommy's original power set came from the first Sentai dinosaur team. Would it have really been that much of a stretch?
@Strider Xanthos Oooh that's even better. Thank you!
Maybe I'd have Katherine ride in the Falconzord with Tommy like she used to in the White Shogunzord. Good times.
Landon Santini Nice! This is way better than the original. Though I suggest making it a 5-parter, or at least a 3-parter.
@@justinesun7270 I think what I really want to that end is a Non-season, multi-part special like the Super Strongest Battle in Sentai - 4 episodes in between seasons where you can get any ranger you please.

What’s interesting about the whole advanced technology setting in ninja steel, is that it actually ties in to ninja in real life. Ninja were always in on the latest things on firearms, medicine, etc. Most of the tools they used were either invented by them, or reverse-engineered by them. Food pills are a prime example of their inventions.
Maybe they should have played more with the Galaxy Warriors tv show, maybe even have some monsters only be interested in being in the spotlight of the show or Brody would have some sort of interest in the show after being around for some time. Like if Galaxy Warriors did a segment where one of the rangers would work with a monster against another pair, Brody could strangely be interested in being in that kind of segment
Yer a ninja wizard, Harry.
Reminder that in the Sentai this was based on the Blue Ranger literally graduated from Hogwarts. Like, the name wasn't used because copyright but it was an established thing where the cast say flat out that he had gone to a British boarding school to learn magic, and has a magic wand and just does magic. I suspect this is an extremely deep cut double Sentai joke, but it's also literally a thing in Shuriken Sentai Ninninger

@@CD-Gaming Sadly Ninninger is an incredibly bad Sentai series on a lot of levels. You really are best served by ignoring it and watching a better season like Kiramager or something.
That's kind of a good point. What does the power nexus have anything to do with 'ninja'. The biggest motiff used with ninja steel is with throwing stars. Literally expendable items. And that's where it stops. At least with Ninja storm that had some inference of ninja abilities including actual ninpo. They also had - what you refer to Lewis - as an actual history with two schools dedicated to it.
The closest we get here is the red ranger is part of a defunct ninja heritage. When Cam developed ranger tech he purposefully centered the tech around their ninja abilities. Here they just happened to luck out that the power nexus thing just happens to fit the ninja motiff and all of their powers and abilities do too.
Monty2289 i actually had an idea about the ninja motif of the nexus that could’ve properly connected to the power ranger lore: Ninjor created the nexus prism. Think about it, Ninjor created the original sets of power coins (Dino and ninja) and since he has ninja powers himself, it’s possible he could’ve created them before the coins. The prism was just so powerful, it became sentient, prompting Ninjor to revaluate and create a more standard set of powers. Plus the prism was traveling from planet to planet which could be because there was a crisis that needed its own rangers to deal with. And once that evil was beaten, it would take back the power stars and go off to the next world.
This Ninja theme was really, *really* half-assed and ho hum.
jlantern100 my theory is something similar is that he used the ninja steel to create the ninja and the alien ranger power coins and possibly the Dino coins and oddly enough the galaxy ranger quasar sabres
Not to take anything away from how good this retrospective on the season was, but I’m kinda disappointed that Linkara didn’t touch on many of the more confusing and bad lessons that the season presented, like in Moment of Truth where Calvin learning to tell the truth basically means insulting Victor for having a different taste in sunglasses, or Sheriff Skyfire’s lesson of always follow the authorities even if they are abusing their power (since the episode never really calls out how Victor and Monty are abusing their power). Not saying he HAD TO do it, just would’ve liked to see more of his opinions on this season’s weird lessons.
Rest in Peace Jason David Frank, the last appearance of the Green Mighty Morphin Power Ranger.
I know a lot of people have said that Linkara calling out the Tommy Oliver worshipping, aged badly after his death,

I think we can all agree that we love Tommy, and we all have so much fun when he comes back.
However, there are several other veteran rangers that deserve to be acknowledged just as much, like Cam, Kendrix, Ryan, Dillion, and so on. Which is why I'm excited that the Dino Charge rangers along with Austin St. John are coming back, giving us a break from the stereotypical JDF cameo

Rewatching Jungle FURY recently, RJ is almost like the Mr. Miyagi of the Power Rangers
Speaking of Dino Charge, I was initially upset that we got yet another dinosaur themed series, when we already have Mighty Morphin season 1, and Dino Thunder.
But when Dino Fury came out, I said: "Screw it. Dinosaur themes are a common trend in Power Rangers/Super Sentai, and I just have to accept it."
Also R.I.P. Jason David Frank. May the Power Protect you always.
I love you so much, Linkara. "The show makes it seem like she's over-reacting. Shes not." Art.
Theres always something i love with Ninja Steel seeing Yoshi Sudarso, who plays Koda, being a ranger side by side with his younger brother Peter Adrian Sudarso. Especially with Yoshi seeing and making the announcement that his brother would be the Blue ranger at Power Morphicon in 2016.
I really like how the continuity is being more established outside of a couple crossover episodes
As much as I enjoyed the anniversary episode, I do have to agree with the way to much Tommy worship. And the worst part is, even if they wanted to keep it a single episode, there's a way that I think could have potentially fixed it: have Tommy actually been brainwashed instead of replaced with a robot. Yeah, it's kind of the Krillin dies a lot joke of Power Rangers, but if he had actually been brainwashed, then instead of Tommy facing that robot of himself which along with other parts of the episode put him way over the top in spotlight time, it could have been a different ranger fighting a brainwashed Tommy, beating and freeing him while the others rescue the captured rangers.
In my opinion I would say Wes would be the best pick as he would be the longest serving ranger there who hadn't been captured, it could be kind of a nice nod to a Red Ranger facing a brainwashed Tommy, and help show off how cool a past ranger can be without them being part of the Mighty Morphin era. You could even have Tommy still have the Master Morpher as an extra challenge for Wes to have, and to set it up for later so the really cool moment with the Falconzord could still happen.
heck, Tommy being brainwashed would've probably given some good emotional weight to the crossover since three of the other Rangers taken have known him a long time.
JustAName Yep.
Nah. I'd say the "Krillin dies a lot" joke of Power Rangers is Tommy fighting himself.

Amazing work. A small suggestion
equest: when you speak about names of Super sentai it will be really helpful to put a photo of the show in question, since for those who are unfamiliar when you start juggling super sentai names it becomes really confusing and hard to follow. I think it's especially important since this is a show specifically about power rangers and not super sentai, so if we are (like you) unfamiliar with super sentai, in order to enjoy the super sentai anecdotes it may be a good idea to make them more accessible.
The FalconZord was never destroyed. It returned to the temple at the end of season 3, beginning of Zeo. The lack of a Ninja Power Coin probably didn't change the fact they can still be active. I. E.: when Kim lost her Power Coin. And Tommy still flew the FalconZord. But capturing the Falcon also means the other zords were inactive.
Plus Billy also created a remote control for the Falconzord as well.
I’m more frustrated that when he calls for the falconzord that the show displayed the wrong coin
@@alankrumwiede2670 my guess is his master morpher combined the Tigerzord and Falcon powers into one as turning into two white rangers would be redundant.
It's also possible that what power remanded of the remote could reactivate the Falconzord as well.
9:15 "Too much pink energy is dangerous." Multiple active teams within an arbitrary proximity could, theoretically, put too much strain on the morphing grid. As such, this would mean that only one ranger team should be active at any one time, with exceptions only being made for certain ranger+ level events. Or in the case of Time Force and SPD, they're likely using a cordoned off reinforced portion of the grid to morph that doesn't interfere with the normal "as they're needed" teams.
Well, Rangers do tend to cause colored explosions nearby when they morph in close proximity...
In one episode, they managed an OK anniversary teamup, something Megaforce couldn't do in two seasons. I do like that outside of Tommy, they try to mix it up a bit with who they bring back. As you said, Wes and/or Carter are probably the most likely to be running this sort of greater Ranger organization due to their jobs, contacts, and personalities.
The Tommy/Kat hand holding is likely to piss off a certain segment, but it doesn't really bother me, even if I prefer Kimberly. I do like the idea that Tommy (and Kat?) has a son, but I think the episode kind of did that a disservice with JJ not being mentioned once all hell broke loose. Tommy should be more worried and in a rush to check on him.
As you said, it was good for Steve Cardenas to get into an anniversary episode. He had big shoes to fill replacing Jason and he simply wasn't nearly as developed. Then he was pretty much dumped in Turbo without even getting to become a support character after Rocky's injury.
Actually, there is ONE thing interesting to note about the Ninja Blaze Megazord: It's the first Megazord where its initial combination is of six Zords, instead of starting off with three to five and then getting new combinations and modes by adding new Zords.
But Linkara, you forgot the greatest character in the show! Cody! He deserves all the pets!
He is an adorable pupper!
I totally agree about Tommy, they really need to move on from him.
Galvanax being an underwelming villain reminded me of how his Sentai counterpart was built up since the beginning (so much so that his appearance in the opening was darkened so that you couldn't even see how he looked like), and yet he was easily dispatched. In fact, I like how they used the Sentai final arc as the first season ending, because you need a much better finale than that.
Also, I think it's nice how this show treated its "being an anniversary season" by integrating it into the story. There are no unnecessary and forced easter eggs, but just things that makes you say "maybe, that was an easter egg".
Re-watching this years later, I have to note it is kinda cute how happy Sledge is when he says "My wife Poisandra", like, he is really excited they are finally married and I like that detail from a main villain
OMG thank you! Here I thought it would be next week when we got the final part! I haven't even made it in 5 seconds before posting this, but I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the anniversary episode!
IWAE, Linkara returns
Huh, at least the crossover is nice.
Marcosatsu well look who it is
Marcosatsu dude ,I’m suprise linkages, do you also see shinta reviews?
...ATOP THE FOURTH WALL... GRAND LINKARA!!!!!!!
oh lookie... the "Above Average" Authority on Sentai is here... but agreed, the Crossover is the only thing Decent on this pile of Saban Branded poop
The Woz is strong with you.
Speaking as someone who graduated from a technical high school 10 years ago, yeah...theater performances were held in the entrance hall (at least until the 2008-2009 academic year when they finally got an auditorium built, thanks to a private patron who donated a lot for it). So, the technical high school theory isn't too far off with all of the evidence provided.
YES thank you for putting into words my feelings that though this wasn't the best season of power rangers, it's well-crafted in the sense of mirroring what the original kids show was. It felt so much like mighty morphin and I really admire it for that.
Don't know if you guys know but the anniversary episode was aired the same day power rangers started back in 1993. I love that they did that.
Well duh they advertised it as power rangers day
Yeah but that even proves Judd lynn actually cared about the episode unlike zacker.
I'm Glad that Peter and Yoshi Sudarso got to be on screen together. I think besides JDF Yoshi has the most Ranger Forms/Helmets (Dino Charge Blue, Timeforce Silver, and Hyperforce Green) and together with Peter's (Ninja Steel Blue and Hyperforce Red) the Sudarso's match him. That's pretty cool. Love that they got to be brothers in Power Rangers Hyperforce too. The Transportal Device is interesting too because it was first introduced in the comics.
Feels like Tynamon and Brax could’ve been a third party on their own, being a comedic duo that also got stuff done.
THANK YOU for the Tommy worship thing. Also, JDF's ego in real life needs to be taken down a peg--from what I hear the Tommy worship has kind of given him a big head.
Yeah sometimes I feel from Dino Thunder on, it's gotten a little out of hand.
Not really. He's chill. He honestly plays it up for his ig but thats about it. He's 100% trying to do his own thing. He's trying to move away from the green ranger thing
@@elianime1 recorded his own cameo in the cinema then went to facebook and twitter to complain about it when security told him to stop recording the movie. Starts calling out a wrestler for a joke about how JDF would fail in MMA because his costume work is just dubbed (and yes i know JDF is a MMA bad ass), JDF then started making videos that you can find on youtube of him spitting his dummy out and setting his fanboys against the wrestler. Then theres the Dragan story where he is a evil tyrant from Shattered Grid where he made a live action teaser for it again boosting his ego. And then this season where AGAIN, the new rangers fanboy out over him "OMG its Tommy he is such a bad ass OMG" *faints* just like Derek Johns said, it started in Dino with Kelly "he's not the oldest.... just THE BEST" On there own you could say they were not for his ego, but together you gotta admit it says colours *pun intended* about him
@@AzguardMike The Shattered Grid thing is for a character called Lord Drakkon which was inspired in a fan theory about an evil tommy using a fan made mashup of the Green and White Ranger powers. They ASKED HIM to do the trailer and invited him into Hyperforce to do Drakkon.
@@AzguardMike Also, to be fair, Tommy is just the best to suit up.
I mean yes, Wes and Leo were amazing but Tommy has led 4 different ranger teams to great success and is not only one of the strongest fighters, but clearly very intelligent.
I think the Tommy worship should be gone too, but Dino Thunder didnt really have any worship
While the 25th anniversary episode had pacing issues it at least tried 2 things that the previous anniversary episodes ignored having the 2 teams interact with each other actually giving the legendary rangers lines to speak and giving them something to do other than saving people and standing there as cameo it’s like this episode was big apology for the legendary battle
and once a ranger
Yeah I was originally going to add that but I was worried that someone come in and say “ah once a ranger wasn’t that bad”
@@SJ_RANKS I'm not saying it's good, I'm just saying I was happy to see Bridge become a Red Ranger
@@castleoffiction96 when I saw it as a kid I was disappointed that sky wasn’t the red ranger look bridge is fine but I just don’t see him as a red ranger
I wish it was a 2-Parter, that could've fixed the pacing issues.
THE PRODUCER WHO THOUGHT FART JOKES IS THE WAY IS THE FART JOKE HIMSELF
Can't help but feel like Sledge could've been a rival villain to Odious during the season. They use plenty of original battle footage so he wouldn't be intrusive to adapting Ninninger, especially if his monsters are adapted from said Super Sentai season itself.
For some odd reason, I get this warm fuzzy feeling when watching Sledge be himself. I don’t know why. I just do.
The most noteworthy thing about the Ninja Blaze Megazord is that it's not only the first time a standard megazord is made of 6 zords, but the fact that the 6th Ranger zord is apart of the set needed to form it. Keep in mind, I said standard megazord, not a super combination megazord.
I wont lie, Much as I love Tommy, I have his Legacy Morpher, plus most likely he'd be one of my first real cosplays, there does need to me less worship of the guy. I agree with Lewis 100% here. This doesn't mean i'm less of aa fan of the guy, I just think some love for other rangers is needed, like Jack, Carter, Andros, Chip, etc. Just let's give Tommy a break 21:05 Holy Hell that is smart writing. hope it sticks!
Sasuke Uchiha Yep.
I agree with you. Tommy's my favorite ranger and even I think this worship needs to stop. I've seen plenty of people say they stopped watching team ups and stopped reading the amazing comics due to it constantly focusing on Tommy (though if you ask me when it comes to the comics even though Lord Drakkon is Tommy from another universe I consider him a totally different character since he's nothing like Tommy besides his looks). Idk if you read the comics but I'd love to see Jason, Billy, and Kimberly get more attention. Hopefully the comics can deliver with that and like you said give Tommy a break.
19:54 Presten's actor is Kodas actor's brother. So that's why he's dressed like a caveman
There is an extended fight between Tommy and his evil clone from Dimension In Danger
Justin Williamson there is?
@@castleoffiction96 Yes, yes there is.
A “ninja” colored rock would be a purple rock, because you never see a ninja coming and nobody has seen a purple rock before, so obviously a purple rock is the color equivalent of a ninja rock!
I dunno. I'd think a "ninja"-colored rock would be blue.
Cue Gaijin Goomba reference.
It actually makes perfect sense that the alternate Dino Charge Earth was destroyed while Sledge survived. When Sledge's ship fell into the wormhole, it just fell into the wormhole. The alternate Earth was drawn into it just like textbook spaghettification. That would mean the alternate Earth simply saw billions killed the instant it was suck through.
Ninja Steel was not the best, but I still find some interesting things about it.
With Victor and Monty, the dynamic of their comedy could have been something that tells us more about them.
Indeed, a Jock and Nerd concept could've worked, heck in the first episode Sarah just triggers Victors need for a 50th trophy and in turn leads to a journey into becoming a better person. Oddly no cheerleaders or other jocks associating with them.
Idea for 30th anniversary: Rangercon. All the previous rangers meet, compare notes, fix busted powers, etc.
I think the reason Tommy was the centerpiece of the 25th anniversary and Victor and Monty weren't really liked was because the writers stilp don't know how to break away from the old and create anything new. Victor and Monty was basically an attempt to emulate Bulk and Skull for the sake of having that comic relief and when they try to reinvent it, it just fails. When they were tasked with making an epic anniversary episode, they fell back on the JDF cameo because that was the easy route. The dimensional portal device enabling new series in New universes could finally let writers branch out and break the tropes and throw out the "series checklist" that has bound them for so long.
The end of the Neo-Saban era. *FINNAAAALLLYYY!!!!*

@@SuperWolsey This is pretty much my reaction when I saw that scene. *"THOSE THINGS YOU WERE HOLDING WERE METEOROIDS!!!"*
I remember how, back when Saban buying back the series from Disney, there was a lot of rejoicing and lots of talk about how it would be an improvement over Disney seasons.
I haven't seen Beast Morphers yet, so i can't judge how that season compares to anything that came before. I'm just saying... be careful what you wish for.
@@Strannik01 It's best to just wait for the entire series of Beast Morphers to come out on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu or on DVD.
@@MegaAnimazing Is that a reference to Shinta?
If I had to make a power ranger team, they would be music themed: red vocalist, black lead guitar, blue drums, yellow bass and pink second guitar and voice. The sixth ranger would be the violin. The title could be "power rangers: world tour". The zord wouldn't really be music themed, but rather primal beasts awaken by the team's tunes.
Linkara, this has been an amazing video series, thanks so much for your work and greetings from italy!
The master morpher actually carries over into the comic series, particularly Soul Of The Dragon
I'm surprised you didn't mention the gold ranger's powered up form...a gold freakin' PONCHO.
Primarily, like everything else in this show; Levi's super-poncho ends up being inconsequential.
He did mention its beautifulness on twitter.
So for fun,I'm going to guess which ones would be added from the eleven remaining teams, if they decided to add one ranger from each team for dimmensions in danger (not counting tommy since all of them but zeo has another ranger alongside him).
Corcus- Black Aquitar
Trey/Jason- Gold Zeo
Karone- Pink Lost Galaxy
Kelsey- yellow Lightspeed Rescue
Max- Blue Wild Force (I would have added cole if not for... actor problems)
Hunter- Crimson Ninja Storm
Kat-White S.P.D
Xander- Green Mystic Force
Mack- Red Operation Overdrive
R.J.- Purple Jungle Fury
Orion- Silver Super Mega (I know he's like, the only member that wasn't in the regular mega team, but it still makes it complete)
One thing you didn't mention that i found really cool is that the Lion power up isn't exclusive for the red ranger. He was the one who used the most, but other rangers ended up using it on some episodes
And how you mentioned, Brody's dad was refered as the "greatest ninja ever", so i think they should used him more in season 2 as a mentor to the rangers
Honestly I don't mind the Tommy focus that much, he is the symbol of the show and JDF has been very loyal to the franchise and fans. This was the first time in an anniversary episode that he really got that much more focus than the other returning rangers, and while the dialogue was pretty cringy the fight scenes with him were great. Overall I thought it was a good episode, but yes wish it was longer to have more interaction between the teams and more screen time for the others besides Tommy, Wes, Gemma, and Koda.
Anyway, once again another excellent review, loved watching these for coming on 10 years.
He only cares for the money and being the green ranger and that's it
I was there at Power Morphicon when Yoshi welcomed Peter as the new Blue Ranger...but I seriously had no idea the guy I saw as the yellow ranger wasn't the same one in the show
I mean, after that Sudarso moment, would you really remember the rest of the day?
Considering that you'll hopefully do Beast Morphers, I hope that you discuss in regards to Hasbro buying Power Rangers from Saban and how it also had a ripple effect to go with it. The ripple effect being that Bandai would be kicked out of Power Rangers and in turn would have an effect in the Sentai series, Lupinranger vs Patranger. I know you don't talk about the Sentai but I figure that it would be important.
According to TVTropes, "In an interview with Toku Nation on April 2018 after leaving Bandai America (who had a hand in developing the toyline for Uchu Sentai Kyuranger and developed the toyline for Power Rangers from 1993 to 2018), Gregory Mitchell revealed that the original concept for the 2018 Sentai series was going to be flight-based, which would've been a Spiritual Successor to Choujin Sentai Jetman and that Bandai America would develop it after the success of Kyuranger. The plan changed when the Power Rangers franchise was sold to Bandai's toy industry rival Hasbro, but elements of it did made it to the final version, most notably being the motif for the Lupinrangers' mecha."
Yeah. Hasbro buying Power Rangers did have an effect, albeit a major one.
40:10 I love seeing loving pets in fiction welcome such strange new friends into the family. Another great example is the Kents' cat warming up to J'onn in Justice League when Superman invites him back home to the farm for Christmas. Man, that was a great episode.
Sledge is back... HOW SWAY?!
Rhyperior Ranger Thank you for making me remember HOW SWAY
Tommy has access to the red turbo ranger powers. The Soul of the dragon comic is set in the series timeline in which he had access to it
Maybe so, but TJ also has access to the Red Turbo powers, as we saw in Forever Red. Linkara suggested that Lightning Cruiser also had a spare Turbo morpher for Teej, and I think it'd make sense. That or it could've been Robot TJ using the Red Turbo powers. And yes, I am one of the few fans who believe that four of the five Robot Rangers were in the Turbo suits in Legendary Battle. "And what about the Blue Turbo Ranger?", you're probably gonna ask. "There's a simple explanation for that." And before I see any complaints about me using that quote, the simple explanation is legit. The real Justin is in the Blue Turbo suit. Robot Justin was likely either damaged beyond repair after the battle on Eltar or destroyed during said battle, and the other four managed to survive, and were safely kept hidden away until the time came when one or all of them would be needed.
PowerRangersFan my guess it’s like Rocky and Jason with the MMPR Red Powers. Jason had them in both Forever Red and is said to be the red ranger in legendary battle and here’s Rocky using with the MMPR Red Powers. Tommy and TJ might share them. That or they were never transferred just simply copied
Michael Segal The Soul of the Dragon from what I heard, is a “what if” timeline and not canon with the main universe.
@@Knight41b it's more in line with the Comics universe, but it's a possible future
@@michaelsegal7443 Let's not forget that Rocky also has his Zeo powers.
To be fair, Tommy is like the Iron Man of the Power Rangers.. he represents the reason the series became big enough to still exist after so long..
While true that doesn’t mean all the lore needs to go through him. The anniversary episode was once again the tommy Oliver show featuring the power rangers. Wes, Jason, Andros, Carter, Leo, etc are all just as important as Tommy and we don’t see them nearly as much. Hell in legendary battle if any of the past rangers said anything it was just one line but tommy got full sentences.
Alan Krumwiede Exactly.
@@alankrumwiede2670 I think you two both make great points. I'm going to first reiterate that if you think this is bad, look up what Akaranger has been featured in throughout the last 8 years of Sentai.
Second and on the other hand, I would love to see some of the comic stories acted out. For example, Heckyl in an alternate timeline creates a morpher for the Dark Energem in order to fulfill his promise to the first Keeper and make sure Arcanon can't use it. Zenowing actually gives up his life to ensure that it doesn't corrupt Heckyl. Imagine that timeline's Heckyl traveling the multiverse and having to help out the main Dino Charge team so you finally get a full Ranger rollcall, 00 to 10 (yes, Heckyl's Dark Ranger form becomes the Spinozord's partner)
At this point he's more like Wolverine. Completely overused to the point where they are probably going to accidentally have him somehow be in two different places at the exact same time WITHOUT involving time travel.
JDF: “the power rangers legacy is in good hands”.
Well that hits harder now
I always assumed the reason why the rangers not always teamed up, is because having too many rangers active at the same time for prolonged period was dangerous & could destabilize the morphin' grid. I note the "too much pink energy is dangerous" line from the original show. Just a thought?
That and one of their founding tenets is to never be the ones to escalate a conflict, to avoid starting an arms race with evil that will quickly turn every battle into the finale of lost galaxy,
I think the "too much pink energy" thing was specifically about more than one person using the same set of powers, that Kim and Kat couldn't both be active Rangers because the grid can't handle multiple people using the same power at the same time. As was shown in Dino Thunder, the grid is eventually overtaxed by two beings constantly using the same powers simultaneously. Which would also serve to explain why we've so far only had Jason or Rocky use the original Red powers, never both.
0:58 Here’s an idea they could have easily done:
Ninja Steel originates from Aquitar, hence the name. As we know Alien Rangers used Kakuranger suits and fight scenes and that was a ninja themed Sentai, so the connection would make sense
It was established that nine or was the one who empowered the alien rangers though I have come to believe that ninja steel is how he created the ninja and alien power coins and that ninja had a hand in creating the galaxy rangers Quasar sabres
This was the perfect time to bring back Ninjor the maker of the Power coins, builder of zords, spare Battery for evil plots.
I pretty much agree with you here. I'm not going to argue that Ninja Steel was good per se, but I don't understand why so many fans are so adamant that it's one of the worst seasons ever. Heck, I've even heard some fans say it's THE worst season ever. After Ninja Steel finished, I went back and started watching all of Power Rangers from the start. While watching Turbo, I genuinely found it a struggle to stay engaged. I had to force myself to sit through it, only motivated by the knowledge that the sooner I got through it, the sooner I would get to watch In Space. By contrast, I never felt that way about Ninja Steel. Sure, it was nothing special, but it's something I found myself constantly quite happy to sit down and watch more of. I enjoyed it as a season, despite its major flaws, and as such, I can't really say it was a bad season. It was entertaining, and that's enough for me.
22:12 husband not boyfriend they got married in the season finale of dino super charge
I'm guessing he wanted to hedge because Poisandra didn't technically get her ring like she should have
Whooo boy, lots of stuff to unpack here, first of all lemme tell you I don't mind you doing a slideshow, what i'm here for is your own summary and analysis cuz you honestly been doing a badass job over the years, that's why so many of us keep coming back!
Onto this show... You know, Dino Charge hooked me back into the franchise after watching the show on and off after Operation Overdrive blew all the wind out of my sails, it was the first time I was constantly tuning in every week to watch PR, I felt like a kid again! So I was excited about Ninja Steel, and then I dropped it after 3 episodes...
After watching your recap, I agree with you, the show doesn't look terrible and the story feels fun and watchable (I actually want to go watch the crossover episode), but the problem is that after the sheer ammount of substance and effort they put into Dino Charge, Ninja Steel just feels, safe... No risks, no major story arcs other than the general conflict, just a "by the numbers" PR season... Wich is watchable I guess, but it's one that you won't miss much by skipping, and that's rather sad...
I do have to check out beast morphers proper, the first episode impressed me, but I haven't had a chance to check it out!
Koda and Santa bomb an alien warship after coming into the dimension with a magician-ninja with this episode featuring a TRex and pissed off alien girlfriend.
