So while Linkara added an edit in About Mark Harris, I'd like to spend a comment expanding upon such for the unawares. As Harris IS the credited person responsible for 'Kalishplosions'; in every incident of that issue in the Disney, Neo-Saban and Hasbro era's his name is cited in the credits as the stunt coordinator for them (th-cam.com/video/MdpZ1LE97so/w-d-xo.htmlsi=djNHQwdXYOs5Gj4f&t=1328). Thus showing through those credits that Neither Kalish nor Sakamoto Were culpable for them. This has been known publicly in the fandom for a LONG Time; and was something being called out even before Linkara made the original SPD video a decade ago, yet kept being spread because those that believed it often did not look for evidence outside of Power Rangers to confirm or deny culpability...even as such examples became more and more prevailent with time. This is not a 'blame Linkara' post, by the way; a LOT of people spread this to-this-day with no Malicious intent, to the point the 'Kalishplosions' page on the Ranger wiki has suffered edit wars over proper credit for them even when sources are cited, to say nothing about how bad TVTropes Still is over this and similar misinformation. Ergo, the youtube links throughout this post providing video evidence of such in play. For The problem effects in question DO predate Bruce Kalish's time on the show, and it makes no sense for the screenwriter to be responsible for effect-works. They Start in Ninja Storm, and become more prevailent IN Dino Thunder. While Koichi Sakamoto *Stopped directing for Power Rangers after Wild Force*, at least with any regularity for it to be him who was responsible. With one of his best works he did for Power Rangers before he got sent upstairs being his directing on "Forever Red". (th-cam.com/video/KAVU-tvHpyk/w-d-xo.html) If one has few complaints about "Forever Red"'s stunt work, that's because that is to the Sakamoto standard seen of his later work (th-cam.com/video/CuqZQVnad14/w-d-xo.html) , with him taking the techniques he and fellow stunt Director Makoto Yokoyama developed during their time on Power Rangers (which began with Zeo) back with them to Japan to develop them further. He moved to a producer position after Wild Force (that being part of the reason why he was mis-blamed), while he and his stunt team split their time between Japan and New Zealand to begin doing action scenes for Toei on Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, as well as Tsuburaya on the Ultra Series (th-cam.com/video/b3SFwyrbMVA/w-d-xo.html); and at the time of SPD's production he was also doing some work on Magiranger (adapted as Power Rangers Mystic Force) as part of him building in-roads with the company; him transitioning to full-time directing for them and others when Power Rangers' production closed out at RPM (th-cam.com/video/jmM6Kqm5ySs/w-d-xo.html). He still does work for them (th-cam.com/video/8hSQoUIhL2w/w-d-xo.html), and has even directed several movies (th-cam.com/video/ME9Lt8eEN0Y/w-d-xo.html) both part of those franchises (th-cam.com/video/iZi-WNSe0Sw/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/PZjxLay8Rjs/w-d-xo.html) and independantly such as The live-action adaptation of "Hurricane Polymar" that Discotek Media recently imported (th-cam.com/video/e0TWrjULbnU/w-d-xo.html). Linkara has even reviewed other Tokusatsu series which features Sakamoto's Directing outside of the 'History of Power Rangers' videos; he was one of the main directors of "Kamen Rider Fourze" (th-cam.com/video/QSyzq8dF_cA/w-d-xo.html). And in absolutely no credited work of his has he Ever showcased *ANYTHING* that even remotely approaches the problems of the misnomered "Kalishplosions", they are fully inconsistent with Sakamoto's directing. Sakamoto's use of Pyrotechnics and other stunt and effects-work emphasizes the strength of either the hero or villain in turn, not weakness as became PR's problem. He Showcased them able to resist being damaged by the attacks they receive or an enemy presenting how strong they are to be a legitimate threat. (th-cam.com/video/lrBqm6HR4co/w-d-xo.html) If an attack misses or does nothing to the assaulted it showcases the capability of those involved to dodge/Deflect/resist injury and their will to fight on. (th-cam.com/video/J2kAq1DxX1E/w-d-xo.html) These are all things absent from Kalishplosions, which make those harmed by them look weak and pathetic and as an excuse to break from battle or exclude participants from it, especially when such is staged to look like they deliberately missed so-as to not harm the actors...which is also a consequence of the decline in cinematography in the second unit/stunt team when Harris fully Took over. For Harris was hired on to replace Sakamoto beginning with Ninja Storm; which is why one *begins* to see 'Kalishplosions' two full seasons before Bruce Kalish even entered the picture as a showrunner, only for them to become ubiquitous when he fully took over. So When was Mark Harris promoted into being the head/Full-time stunt Coordinator/action Director for Power Rangers? At *SPD*. Which ties into the other name in the matter that has been frequently overlooked; Makoto Yokoyama, the other senior stunt director and choreographer that had worked on Power Rangers Since Zeo, who had in turn become the senior-most stunt director beginning with Ninja Storm when Sakamoto was sent upstairs. Makoto Yokoyama resigned from doing Power Rangers' stunts after Dino Thunder, that being *WHY* Harris was promoted. He left in 2005 to begin his work for the "Garo" series, the Adult-demographic Horror-focused tokusatsu Franchise Created by Super sentai/Kamen Rider monster designer Keita Amemiya. (th-cam.com/video/2nLS2DmxDDE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ymHh2e0Oa59UHoeO&t=1052 th-cam.com/video/aD71cRr_foM/w-d-xo.html) If those reading this have not heard of it (or have only seen the franchise's anime incarnations) I recomend giving it a watch; as a LOT of the series is available through home video purchase or streaming or even here on youtube (th-cam.com/video/2n2hFQr58aw/w-d-xo.html), and was even successful enough to have had a tie-in event with the MMO Final Fantasy 14 where one could aquire their armor which is still part of that game today. And a lot of the techniques used in the series were first pioneered in Yokoyama's time on Power Rangers (th-cam.com/video/mqOhibuwo9k/w-d-xo.html). But again, that is telling where all the talent went to cause this devolution; it went back to the Japanese productions. Whereas Mark Harris remained working on Power Rangers through the end of Cosmic Fury and "Once and Always", thus why the original effectswork problems that started at Ninja Storm and became overbearing with SPD never sufficiently improved (Some would say it got WORSE), even when the franchise started back up again. (th-cam.com/video/Sk7fwFbQuVA/w-d-xo.html) Ergo, again, why Kalish has been wrongly blamed in this as well since the issue outlived his tenure, and the coincidental timing obfuscated the responsibility. With Sakamoto directing on super sentai however, that in turn leads to why this is STILL a mistaken assumption left in circulation. As series that made heavy use of Sakamoto's Directing have seen adaptation into Power Rangers (of note being Kyoryuger and Ryusoulger being adapted into Dino Charge and Dino Fury, respectively th-cam.com/video/CloKnJqrN8k/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/1j7Ih27begw/w-d-xo.html), and those who have Not seen the source material will not always be able to tell where the japanese stunts for suited action scenes end and where the Power Rangers original ones begin. Which only ultimately adds TO the confusion even among the well-meaning.
tv tropes is written by a bunch of jerks sometimes... I've read pages that were completely inaccurate but you can tell the person writing it just hates the series
Fun fact I learned regarding the Sentai. The Morpher's judgment feature apparently sends the information to a planet where time flows faster, so in the time it takes for the Suspect to be judged, an 8-month investigation occurs to see if they are guilty or not, so there's a bit more due process there, we just don't see it. Mind they also just straight up execute those who they find guilty so....
@@KhanhNguyen-mh5ec Well... non-lethal half the time since, well, you got some of Grumm's direct men like in Shadow who have raised Krueger's homeworld. Dude got off easy.
That was something thrown into Dekaranger 10 Years After, a special that came... ten years after. Hard to say if that was part of the story bible but I guess it makes sense.
The Sentai is also more willing to dive deep into real problems and concepts despite still having a relatively young audience. The Sentai original of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger had the Green Ranger being brothers to the Red Ranger (By adoption I believe; Green being Adopted.) However, the story reveals that Green was to follow a similar fate to the main Rangers and enter a sleep, but his site collapsed and he died then. One Heel-Face Turn later, his life was measured by a Green Candle. If he left the Realm of the Dead, the candle would burn shorter while in the Living World, and once the Candle was gone, Green was dead. And that's what happened: The Green Ranger dies. He at least gave the Shield and Dragon Dagger to Red, at least. Incidentally, kids who liked the Green Ranger wrote to the station, begging to bring the Green Ranger back and wanted him to have a happy life. However, the producers basically said "No" because they wanted to show that, even for Rangers, things are still rough, and they can still die. So in Zyuranger, the Green Ranger stayed dead. I don't think I need to go over how Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers handled the Green Ranger. But similar event did happen; kids liked the Green Ranger and wanted him back. We know how that story goes.
Boom: "I'd be psycked to be the Red ranger" Twelve years later, the actor gets Boom's wish when Mick gets to be a temporary Red Ninja Steel Ranger. Hilarious.
What do you mean temporarily, Mick is the red ninja steel ranger. (I know that the only 2 Times he became ninja steel red were just temporary, but I still consider Mick as earning that title.)
Honestly... why wasn't Boom the Omega Ranger? I could totally see the Future sending over the Omega Max Cycle to aid in the war on Grumm and a morpher with it. Boom tests its out and gets confident enough to head out when Morgana steps up with two new mooks. His next outing would show him trying to go it alone only to be reminded why it's "Power Rangers" and not "Power Ranger." If not, I can see him being given a temporary Orange Morpher in Endings Part 2 after Kat hears his "I'm staying" speech.
Surprised Linkara wasn't told why Sam/Omega Ranger is a ball of light. Disney refused to pay for another main cast member, so the ball of light was a compromise. Kalish actually stated that he regrets doing it that way and would have cut him entirely if not for Sentai footage. A better option would have likely been to maybe make Boom the Omega Ranger or maybe use Piggy or Kruger's physical actors, but I guess they couldn't do that.
TV Tropes says that 'Sam' was actually played by a make up assistant [Kevin Duffy] when you see him in the finale so they still didn't need to hire an actual actor!
@@FlickFusionOfficialits well known that when Disney owned the Power Rangers, they did everything to keep the budgets low, the last season they did, RPM was the stroke that broke the camel's back because it was the most expensive season they did. What's worse is that this continued to be the case after Disney, the Neo-Saban and Hasbro eras notoriously over relied on Sentai footage.
Oh, I would step back on using Cruger or Piggy's actor as the Omega Ranger in SPD given that they are going to be seen again as part of the main cast in the next season after SPD.
@@xgray2012 Piggy's actor was still in costume as Jenji though and could have done it. I agree about not using John Tui because he was Daggeron immediately after. Though funny enough Grumm's human form actor is also Mentor Ji from Samurai
There’s a little detail I really like in the episode “Zapped”: Syd is put under mind control, and Bridge breaks the spell by tricking her into morphing. So SPD morphers are brainwashing-proof. That aligns really well with the big twist: the A-Squad all freely chose to side with the villains.

@@spencermanning9994 Question is, would Kelson Henderson be down to come back as Boom, though, and maybe officially become the Orange Ranger? Because so far, only Fern from Cosmic Fury is the first official Orange Ranger since Boom being such was only in a dream. On top of that, would the rest of the main S.P.D. cast - Monica May, John Tui, etc. - be interested, as well? And who would be the main villain in that reunion? The Troobian Empire has been defeated, after all. Who else would S.P.D. have to fight?
I read on a Power Rangers Wiki that Bridge wears gloves because the actor had tattoos on his hands [Similar to Dino Thunder where Jason David Frank always wore long sleaves to cover up his ink].
@@ForrestFox626 In fairness tattoos weren't as common back in the 2000's as they are now and it probably wouldn't fit with Tommy's job in Dino Thunder but it shouldn't be an issue now.
Interesting Sentai Fun-Fact: The Judgement scanners in Dekarangers are actually explained as an entire trial taken place on another planet where time moves slower than any other planet in the galaxy. Thus they can have as much time as needed to fully deliberate and come up with a proper verdict. Also, when you mentioned that "Wormhole" was supposed to be a DVD Special, that probably explains why they did the whole memory erasure. They probably weren't planning to make it a normal episode, so the ending makes it a "non-canon" episode.
3:31 Looking back, that "football armor" is probably just repurposed motocross gear from Ninja Storm. With the budget Disney gave this season, it's not surprising, but at least it looked convincing enough back when it first aired.
I honestly love that they’ve always fought in a quarry. The implication that sunny seaside Angel Grove has a thriving quarry industry just tickles the right parts of my brain
Something of note: Power Rangers SPD and its Sentai counterpart, Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger have an...interesting relationship. Namely, Dekaranger has actually adapted plot points and costumes that were exclusive to SPD for team-ups they had with other Sentai teams after their series was done, and for anniversary specials they did. Hell, there is a Japanese dub of Power Rangers SPD, and the actors voicing them in Japanese are the Dekaranger cast. It's REALLY weird, but also kinda cool, and shows that Super Sentai and Power Rangers can inspire and have a positive influence on each other. Speaking of, though, Dekaranger was actually my first Sentai. Beforehand, I was solely Power Rangers. I knew a little bit about Super Sentai, but it was mostly word of mouth. One day, during TH-cam's infancy, I saw a video called Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger: The Movie, and I was stunned, because I had no idea the Sentai got theatrical releases (I'd later find out EVERY season had movies shown in theaters). So, I watched it...and I was suddenly hooked. I wanted to watch more of Dekaranger, learn more about this team, and learn more about Super Sentai in general. So, I kinda have an interesting relationship with Dekaranger as well, and to SPD by extension.
Cool fact about the SPD japanese dub is that the guy who did Cruger's voice also dubbed Daggeron for Mystic Force because of John Tui playing both of them
I cannot explain to you how I've been binging retrospectives about things I enjoy recently and Iegit went on your channel, saw nothing, doomscrolled for like 15 mins and then BAM a new video. @@RhyperiorRanger I'm still glad to see a bunch of TFS references in HOPR still. Then again, SPD had an episode called "A-Bridged" and honestly, I kinda wanna see a TFS dub of Power Rangers. Just one episode with their various various plus a Linkara cameo.
You can tell that Greg Aronowitz (one of S.P.D.'s Showrunners) really brought a lot of creativity into this Season. Shame he didn't stay on for at least Mystic Force and Operation Overdrive.
Well, to be perfectly fair, at least mystic force still had the competency to make SOMETHING decent even if not everything about it worked, compared to the one that came after it.
Which you know, fits with the whole "it's a government agency" feel to it. Which I sorta liked. It fits with both the narrative and overall aesthetic they were going for. Since it's not magical there's no need to go all extravagant with it.
2:06 "Why even name the individual Rangers instead of just calling them by their colors?" And somehow this sound clip travelled through an interdimensional rift, where Dr. K thought it sounded like great advice.
I know this is Power Rangers and not the Sentai, but in Gaoranger (the series adapted into Wild Force) did have the rangers call each other by their color.
RPM was originally canon to the prior 16 seasons. That was only changed with Samurai, when they decided NOT to take the out of Venjix control over tech permitting a misinformation campaing about how effective his Robot apocalypse was. And that happened because Johnathan Tzachor didn't want any of the Disney seasons to be canon, only for him to be forced to renege on that with everything else because of Gokaiger.
@@desshinta9428 They did do the 'clash of the red rangers' team up with Samuari. I don't think there was much in RPM to link it to prior seasons anyway [bar the 'Jungle Pizza' sign] and it was made by a showrunner who didn't work on any other seasons so it was easy to see it as a 'stand alone'. As Linkara said in his RPM review, it's hard to link it to the main time line so making it an 'alternative universe' made sense.
True, I think the only season from the modern era (Samurai-Cosmic Fury) with a respectable theme song is Dino Charge (maybe Cosmic fury, but I think 30 second intros are way too short with pr). I'd say that either zeo or dino charge has my favorite version of go go power rangers, but imo pr themes are always better without it

“And yes, it is a Ron Wasserman piece” and the LAS-wait a minute. Man I guess it really hasn’t settled in that he came back for Once and Always. Sure his last theme song is a remix but surely there’s original tracks in the special that would count if one was to be looking for them
One of my favourite things about spd was how much they resculpted and modified it from its sentai while still respecting the source material. And that says a lot on how megaforce/super never acknowledged EITHER goeisger’s angel motif or gokiager’s pirate motif.
Okay, I love musous, and while I would immediately buy a Power Rangers one... I'm also not entirely sure if the series would really fit one. It's generally more focused on smaller scale individual fights, large groups instead of armies, where the Rangers are able to overcome at least in part thanks to their teamwork instead of just with overwhelming firepower. That's what makes the Shadow Ranger's debut so effective and memorable: I'm not sure if it's the first time we've seen that many footsoldiers taken on at once, but it's definitely the first time we've seen them taken down by a single Ranger before. And, conversely, I'd say that's also what makes the introduction to Super Megaforce so frustrating: the Rangers just immediately and casually annihilate an entire invasion force devastating Earth, in a manner that I don't think is out of place for a musou game- and it's treated with the same level of respect as in a musou, i.e. neither the Rangers nor the Armada really seem to CARE how impressive such a feat SHOULD be.
@@aidanobrien5591I mean, it worked for The Legend of Zelda and you don't exactly deal with huge hordes in the regular LoZ games. I could see a way it could work, think something like the Warriors Orochi games which do the crossover thing, and I'd 100% buy it. Heck, you could even have giant enemy battles where you fight as the Megazords against big bosses.
I'm personally hoping for a Rogue-Like Turn Based RPG set against Drakkon's forces, enemy designs like Ranger Slayer or the Sentry modes for the different teams and could be like Darkest Dungeon with a random selection of ten Rangers and you get synergy with colors or team members.
From what I’ve read, Bruce Callish wanted SPD to be as close to an adult series as possible. It shows. This series makes me wonder which Ranger teams were actually _paid_ to be Rangers. Here are some top-of-my-head examples: SPD & Lightspeed Rescue are government-run, I'd imagine they'd receive a stipend, especially since the latter team were pulled from their civilian jobs to be recruited. Overdrive is easy since Dr. Hartford is rich and can buy an army. While RJ probably wasn't loaded, it's a good bet that he let the Jungle Fury team work in his pizza shop at a decent rate to earn some spending money while providing free room & board to the essentially homeless Rangers. If the Time Force team's future timeline didn't establish universal basic income, there's good odds that their paycheques are stacking up & waiting for them when they return to the year 3001. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Beast Morphers were also government ran, and RPM were affiliated with their government, which is likely where their money and resources came from. I can't think of any other examples off top of my head.
A big missed opportunity with Sam as a character is that they could have had at least 1 episode of future Sam interacting with young Sam. Young Sam was said to have been recruited into SPD. Meaning that apparently, this police academy has a children's cadet program. If they wanted to keep it light-hearted but emotional, they could have focused on the same theme already established in Sam's introduction, the fact that the kid is very lonely. Future Sam could have already known how Young Sam felt in the Academy, alone, othered, sad. He could have acted as his young self's imaginary friend. This ball of light that gives him advice and support. You can finish the episode with Future Sam telling his young self that everything is going to be fine, that he is going to meet some great friends and do great things. Then Young Sam is introduced to a new child cadet, a girl. During the finale, it will be revealed that this girl is the Nova Ranger, bringing the thing full circle and implying the bond and history Omega and Nova have.
I just realized. There's not many seasons left for Linkara to do... Just Mystic Force and RPM... After that... It's all over. That is, until we find out if Hasbro is really going to go through with the reboot, or just continue on post-Cosmic Fury. In either case, I'm sure Linkara would appreciate one less project on his seemingly-over full plate.
If Powers rangers really doesn't continue he still has all those other History of videos planned, heck even if PRs does continue, he can still do the other videos them in the mean time.

I know he was keen to do a 'History of' for the spiderman animated series' but I'm skeptical if those will see the light of day, especially given AT4W is understandably his main focus.
Well unless he decides to combine the Operation Overdrive and Jungle Fury multi parts to 1 video same with season 3 of MMPR Zeo Turbo and in Space. Along with the Neo Saban seasons. Yes those seasons are already on here but not like here when it's a 1 part video.
@jamesatkinsonja To be fair in the original videos some of them were 2 parts but he did combined them in the remakes though ironically MMPR season 3 and Zeo were 1 videos but he expanded them and spill those into 2 videos Ultimately it's his call but he has combined a 2 part video into 1 before so it's possible he could do it again after all of the series is on TH-cam.
Kruger erased the rangers memories in wormhole because the SPD rangers thought it unfair that only they got to remember working with the Dino Thunder team
I will always love how Cruger has some lizard-like traits in his design as well as his canine appearance. It makes him seem more alien than the fluffball from the Sentai.
in Dekaranger, the justice "scanner" connects to the police hq in the middle of the galaxy where time apparently flows really fast so they could trial a criminal for years only for it to take like 60 seconds at the crime scene
for the theory of Sky's dad being Wes was actually answered by one of the writers in a convention. He stated they originally wanted to make an original suit for Sky's dad and asked the production for it but the they wouldn't allow it. They just gave them a bunch of old suits and told them to choose one. It just happened to be the time force suit not sure if they chose it because SPD took place in the future like how Time Force did though. The had the time for suit and just put an SPD badge on it.
It's funny when you think on it... SPD has a judgement system, right? Remind me, who is the Egyptian God of judging the dead? I don't even doubt it was intentional
@@firepuppies4086 If you think that’s cool, Doggie Cruger in Dekaranger also got the title: “Hells Guard dog” guess who’s that referencing in Greek mythology
One headcanon explanation I have for Kruger's snout is that PR Helmets are their own pocket dimensions, which is why most of the times when they remove their helmets, they dont have helmet hair. Kim's line in the very first ep is the only line of the show I can come up with to disprove this BUT the actual actors taking the helmets off solidifies my headcanon
The “Wes is Sky’s dad fan theory” has been debunked by everyone. Even the show runners have stated that Sky’s Dad is not Wes nor related in any way. Especially as he was an adult working at SPD in 2001. That’s how the team got civilian powers. Also it wouldn’t fit what we know about how the Chrono Morphers work. As neither a child or brother would have the exact matching DNA to Wes. I believe that Cat pulled a copy of the Chrono Morpher from the archives but was unable to fully recreate the powers. Which as the real Time Force Red Powers were still in use made her copy weaker allowing for the death of Sky’s dad.
It's Trent's actor, Jeff Parazzo, voicing Tommy in "Wormhole". Points to him for trying, honestly, since JDF, as he said, was never contacted about that team-up. I'd rather have someone else voice the character than hear archived dialog. Anyway, Bridge is definitely my personal favorite of the B-Squad because of how much fun he is to watch. Matt Austin really did a terrific job with the role. If I were to ever meet the guy at a Power Morphicon convention, I'd shake his hand and say to him, "Man, I'd honestly wanna have some toast with Bridge, even the buttery kind. I also kinda wish I had his power to read someone's life energy or that of an area. It looks like it could be pretty handy." 2nd edit: One of the writers for S.P.D. actually confirmed that they just happened to have the old Red Time Force costume, so your theory on them reusing it like they reused the Space Ranger suits for the A-Squad turned out true.
Jeff Parazzo actually went in a bit of detail on how that happened. When JDF left Dino Thunder for a bit any time the cast did a table read he read Tommy’s lines which got them laughing. They lead to the crew asking him to pull double duty for the episode. I hope he got a little extra money considering he wasn’t in history
Although it's a different format [with two separate episodes rather than a two-parter], this is the last season to have the traditional 'team up' with most of the previous team. Unless I'm mistaken, subsequent team ups usually involved members from several seasons [or in 'Clash of the red rangers' case it's a prior season team up with just 1 team member returning].
One of my favorite things about spd was how it got us away from the concept of the “over-powered red ranger” that started in dino thunder, and swapped in a more interesting concept- the reluctant red ranger. Jack didn’t want to be a power ranger at first, and was only the red ranger for as long as he NEEDED to be. Even though I love characters that WANT to be power rangers, but it was kinda refreshing to see a character who didn’t feel like it was their destiny at first or something.
Originally the sentai was going to be a train themed show, until they changed it to the space cop theme before shooting. Hence why the suits have the uniform numbers to show routes and the helmet are designed like models of bullet trains. However, 10 years later they would do the train theme with Resha Sentai ToQger.
Ah, the series that started the kalish-plosions. It’s kinda interesting how it truly STARTED with the first one that had a three-letter title, and then it ENDED with the next one that had a three-letter title. Pretty fitting if you ask me.
"Thanks, Sentai footage." Well it's hardly the Sentai's fault, it's the studio's for choosing to use that over making an original Zord for the A-Squad.
I really did enjoy some of the comedy of this season. Bridge was always a treat and is still today one of my favorite Green/Black Rangers of the series. But man, that part where Piggy asks the Universe for a sign that he did the right thing, only for his Food Truck to be zapped and blown up had me rolling. Like God straight up went, "I want there to be NO misunderstanding here. You F'ed up."
I really love that at the end of wormhole that Sam and Tommy both did not get there minds wiped so they would know about the team up it makes sense kind of since Sam is a time traveler and Tommy would be one of the Rangers that would team up with wes and others in other team ups
38:31- From what I’ve read, that actually was the reason. Disney didn’t want to pay a full time face actor for their work, so just made him a ball of light because hiring just a voice actor was far cheaper. 53:36- Apparently the person doing Tommy’s voice in the episode is Jeffery Parazzo, Trent’s actor. Yet another sign of Disney being cheap. Seriously, they couldn’t just put a microphone in front of Jason David Frank and have him say a few lines?
Yeah, they should have at least asked if he'd do it, for whatever amount they could afford. Then, if he said no, it would seem better. Another option: use voice clips. That might even be cheaper. That said, I've not heard the impression, so I don't know how good or bad it was. Too bad Linkara couldn't include a clip like with Jason/Austin St. John.
You also get it with the Rita and Thrax/Zedd Jr in the subsequent seasons. I suppose now the actors could literally just record the lines themselves and email it to them [as home technology has improved]!
Technically no, this is just his first recurring character. He was in Dino Thunder in one episode where he played the music producer who tried to change Kira' image.
You uploaded this on July 11, 2024. Exactly 1 year before the supposed complete conquest of Earth according to the message. Coincidence or intentional?
Honestly, Gruumm should have been in Power Rangers Mystic Force because he looks like he fits in that series as an undead, demonic villain. Why couldn't the main villain be a cyborg scientist and fit in more with the Krybots and giant robots?
They should have used Broodwing as the main villain instead of making Gruumm. Hell Broodwing’s sentai counterpart’s whole deal was he was apart of a space black market and would sell weapons and stuff to the aliens the rangers are fighting. Then he decided to fight the rangers himself after they cost him a ton of money by stopping all the aliens. I feel like that would have worked better then having an alien Skeletor trying to take over earth
Gonna be honest, despite how cynical we are oof the police nowdays i'm glad series like this does exist i know plenty of friends both irl and online who became police officers BECAUSE of this series and have tried their best of uphold the values this series taught, its a pity that they are squashed by older cops just being... well scumbags, but i hope one day in the future we will have a police force like this that care more about the people then just abusing power

Kudos for leaving the explosion rant in lmao 🤣 😆 One of my favorite seasons, ngl 🎉 loved the team Jack, growing into a good leader and realizing that he can trust his decisions, Sky learning to accept his teammates and trust Jack in his role, Bridge proving that outside the box thinking is sometimes the way to go, Sydney proving she is not just a spoiled rich girl and a hardworker, Z actually getting to make the bigger difference she wanted, and Doggy being a stout mentor and leader eventually facing down his own demons. Grum was a huge presence and proven threat since beginnings. Well written and geat season 👏 👌 👍
I was just watching an old version of this earlier today coincidentally. Glad to be able to watch the new version of HOPR SPD today. Edit Note: I was also watching HOPR Operation Overdrive before this and my god, there's SOOO much flaws in that season. Second Edit Note: In the Sentai SPD is based on, Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, the Omega Ranger (Or DekaBreak in the Sentai) *WAS* the 6th Ranger, hence why he has the Roman numeral for 6 on his suit.
So I've seen others briefly mention it, but not go into detail. Dekaranger - SPD's Sentai - backporting the Battlizer. See, Sentai does the teamup a bit differently, using it in crossover movies with the previous season. So when Magiranger vs Dekaranger came around - going direct to DVD in 2006, after SPD had wrapped filming - Toei would have seen it, and clearly someone liked it, so they gave DekaRed the Battlizer - both modes of it. What's fascinating is that from Jungle Fury onwards, Power Rangers stopped doing Battlizers, but from Shinkenger (Samurai's Sentai), they started introducing the Red Ranger Exclusive Power Up, even if it could be passed around. In other words, the Battlizer mantle swapped hands.
SPD is my personal favorite season. Part of that is probably because it was the season that aired when I was growing up at the exact time frame that Power Rangers is supposed to be a young boy's favorite thing in the entire world, but I do think there's a lot of great elements to it. The overall underdog theme is perfect and something new for the series, the acting is really good, the writing is mostly great, and our Rangers all grow into being worthy of being called Power Rangers. One thing I noticed: Skye's civilian power is to put up walls and Jack's civilian power is to walk through them, yet another way the two contrast with each other and help each other grow as characters. It's subtle, but but it's fantastic
Our FIRST Power Rangers series for my brother and I. Didn’t watch all of it when we first watched it, but this show got us into Power Rangers. The omega ranger should’ve been BOOM!
I’m chill with Sam & Nova being Rangers, since it adds to the wider picture of things. What *should’ve* happened, IMO was Boom getting a temporary morpher in the same way Kat did. Doesn’t even need to be it’s own episode, it could’ve gone with Kat’s.
@@gabepollock1641 That’s fair. Though I think Boom could’ve had a whole arc where he was pushed to his limit and by the end of it, he’s able to prove himself and is awarded the Omega Morpher. He can already fight as seen in episode 1, so him being a ranger isn’t too far fetched
nah, Boom is clearly the Bulk & Skull of the season: a hero that doesn't need powers to do the right thing AND get others to follow suit also Sam just ads to the whole lore of SPD being a far greater organization, i do however wish they would have had him hang out more with the team in suit form
Fun fact; spd was the last series to have a PROPER crossover (meaning a crossover with the current team and the previous team). And no, clash of the red rangers DOESN’T count, because that was only ONE rpm ranger rather than the rest of that team.
This is one of those ranger sentai differences with Broodwing, because he is the main villain of Dekaranger, and since Dekaranger are more police investigators CSi style, he fits the role of villain much better, since he isn't some evil overlord. but a mastermind criminal who is trying to get rich and stay on the loose
Admittedly, I have always enjoyed your rants or lengthy thoughts on Power Rangers stuff and why Kalishplosions were terrible is one of my favorite moments in HOPR and I'm glad to see this redone with additional examples.
I also appreciate that, with this second take on the Kalishpolisions rant, Linkara does take time at the beginning to highlight Kalish’s seemingly positive reputation as a showrunner and a boss. Questionable though the creative choices related to the explosions were, dude sounds pretty decent.
@@SirDanFilmsUnltd He also highlights that studio mandates and stunt people were probably also involved so it's clearly not all down to Kalish. I remember writer Jackie Marchant being quoted in the Jungle Fury review that the budget was very tight by this stage so that they followed the Sentai plots is even more understandable [given RPM having to be creative about the footage lead to script delays etc].
I couldn't see anyone else bring this up, but the episode Reflections was actually based on episodes 28 and 29 of Dekaranger. Instead of it being a blue ranger episode it was an episode for their 6th ranger Tetsu. They of course changed this for SPD since their 6th is a ball of light for the majority of the run. The bad guy didn't kill Tetsu's dad but killed his girlfriend and like we see in reflections he had to cover everything including his eyes so that the bad guy couldn't get out but like in SPD he makes him cry and gets out that way. Tetsu was a very serious character at this point in the series and these episodes help show why he became that way but it also starts his characters growth into a less stoic person.
54:38 Even if it's expensive to have JDF back in New Zealand, they could of at least have JDF to do some voice-over as Tommy for the crossover. I mean they literally have JDF voice-over as Tommy once before in Dino Thunder when Tommy got stuck in his Ranger Form for a few episodes. *Facepalm*
I have a headcanon that I think explains the whole shadow ranger snout situation. The process of morphing seems to partially alter the biology of the person morphing. When Justin morphed, he suddenly grew two feet and gained a physique similar to the other rangers. When aliens morph, they become more human, such as zenowing shinking down and loosing his wings while morphed, Kruger's snout disappearing, or the Aquitar rangers' somewhat larger heads being able to fit into the helmets. This could either be from the people making the powers, ie zordon, time force, etc, have only figured out how to get the morphing process to work for an adult human, so other beings that try to morph get changed to fit those parameters while they are morphed. It could also be because the nature of the morphing grid is such that it changes your body into the form that is most suited for the power, and that form just so happens to be an adult human. If you want to really be meta and pedantic, this could also explain the minor differences in body types of the American actors and their sentai counterparts.
I mean, it is called "morphing." They don't just put on special suits. The question is what would happen if he took the helmet off, which they all seem to be able to do.
The erasing the memories of the SPD team does make sense if you look to Time Force. They had the same protocol in place for the Time Force team to prevent them from infecting the future with the ideals and knowledge of the past.
I spotted something ironic in Episode 13 abandoned where the rangers are training and they go up against Kruger but he kicks their asses and then Syd said she bet Kruger could beat Grum all by himself and then in the final episode Kruger defeated Grum all by himself. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!!
"Despite one not knowing what a clock looks like" Sadly, that's real. My friends and fam who are teachers always say that kids nowadays don't know how to read traditional clocks
I miss when my main concern with power rangers was " What will the 2025 season be, spd 2.0? Ohh maybe a season taking place 2005..." Now my concern is "IS POWER RANGERS CANCELED" This brand is so lost its sad.
Ya I'm kind of having a mixture of emotions about the reboot suddenly getting canceled which makes me fear for the future but if nothing else happens at least we ended on a good enough note for most people.
@Pikachu2Ash I can't complain to much, we got 30 years of content and lore. I wish of course the last decade of shows were half as good as the previous eras but I digress. I don't think it's done forever but for the time being, I'd say we are not seeing anything new for 5 maybe 10 years. Imo. This brand is cold as ice sadly.
Apparently Hasbro is looking for a partner to replace Netflix and given how the series has been cancelled before and returned [such as after RPM] It probably will be back someday. I'd suspect it would be a hard reboot given how 'Cosmic Fury' was designed to 'clear the deck'.
(th-cam.com/video/Sk7fwFbQuVA/w-d-xo.html)
Ergo, again, why Kalish has been wrongly blamed in this as well since the issue outlived his tenure, and the coincidental timing obfuscated the responsibility.

Fun fact I learned regarding the Sentai. Mind they also just straight up execute those who they find guilty so....

@@KhanhNguyen-mh5ec Ah yes. Non-lethal criminals like Grumm. We all know the planet in Beginnings was just the abandoned warehouse planet.

That’s what I was thinking. It could’ve been boom or piggy as the Omega Ranger. What was Disney thinking?

@@FlickFusionOfficialits well known that when Disney owned the Power Rangers, they did everything to keep the budgets low, the last season they did, RPM was the stroke that broke the camel's back because it was the most expensive season they did.

"Efficient, but not aesthetically interesting" is a good description of pretty much all the design work this season honestly.
Which you know, fits with the whole "it's a government agency" feel to it. Which I sorta liked. It fits with both the narrative and overall aesthetic they were going for. Since it's not magical there's no need to go all extravagant with it.
There is a certain kind of appeal for purely practical designs.
2:06 "Why even name the individual Rangers instead of just calling them by their colors?"
And somehow this sound clip travelled through an interdimensional rift, where Dr. K thought it sounded like great advice.
Okay. That's pretty funny 😂
Ironic that Disney made cool Power Ranger shows with catchy theme songs that doesn't repeat "Go Go Power Rangers!" here.

29:53 and yet somehow we still haven't had a Power Rangers Dynasty Warriors game. Missed opportunity if you ask me.

SPD & Lightspeed Rescue are government-run, I'd imagine they'd receive a stipend, especially since the latter team were pulled from their civilian jobs to be recruited.

Makes as much as sense as everything else in Power Rangers
Say what you will about that show, I did like the villains
Linkara keep up the great work as always I really needed this today I’m off sick from work and your content always makes me feel better
Kat may have only gotten to morph once, but she was part of the base roster in Battle for the Grid, and I think that's pretty neat~
I know you don't really care about Super Sentai but kudos for getting this video out this year when Dekaranger celebrated their 20th anniversary
Ah, the series that started the kalish-plosions. It’s kinda interesting how it truly STARTED with the first one that had a three-letter title, and then it ENDED with the next one that had a three-letter title. Pretty fitting if you ask me.
"Thanks, Sentai footage."
Well it's hardly the Sentai's fault, it's the studio's for choosing to use that over making an original Zord for the A-Squad.
Original footage cost more money.
They did use original footage of Omni and the Swat Megazord
@@ZipplyZane I'm surprised they didn't just use rehashed audio given they have had clip shows in the past.
This is also the debut of Kelston Henderson in Power Rangers!
I wanna say he was in Dino Thunder for a bit part for an episode, but this is his first recurring character
Technically no, this is just his first recurring character. He was in Dino Thunder in one episode where he played the music producer who tried to change Kira' image.
Completely forgot about that. A star is born that was the episode.
And now he’s Mick Boom is dead
@@TheBandit025Nova Boom never died there just play by the same actor!
You uploaded this on July 11, 2024. Exactly 1 year before the supposed complete conquest of Earth according to the message. Coincidence or intentional?
Man, I WISH I was smart enough to do that intentionally.
@@AT4WLet's call it a happy little accident.
Great to see another one of these. Been watching since HOPR started so really enjoy these re-dos.
Honestly, Gruumm should have been in Power Rangers Mystic Force because he looks like he fits in that series as an undead, demonic villain. Why couldn't the main villain be a cyborg scientist and fit in more with the Krybots and giant robots?
Yeah, you'd think his forces would feel more necrotic, biological, or demonic.
0:01 "I am... The Keeper!"
"Keep this!"
If you join a self-evidently corrupt system, you are aiding the corruption, regardless of your intentions.
@@Pikachu2Ash That wouldn't work. We need to reform the police as a national institution, not remove them.
@@bthsr7113 Why wouldn't it work?
@@Pikachu2Ash when you're caught stealing your punished, you can't punish someone who is never caught, hence you need people to catch them so they are punished
@@odettefahy4568 People wouldn't steal if food or necessities weren't expensive 🙄 Police aren't gonna stop that.
Hurray! You got this one out before the 20th anniversary of it next year!
Kudos for leaving the explosion rant in lmao 🤣 😆
One of my favorite seasons, ngl 🎉 loved the team Jack, growing into a good leader and realizing that he can trust his decisions, Sky learning to accept his teammates and trust Jack in his role, Bridge proving that outside the box thinking is sometimes the way to go, Sydney proving she is not just a spoiled rich girl and a hardworker, Z actually getting to make the bigger difference she wanted, and Doggy being a stout mentor and leader eventually facing down his own demons.
Bridge, the original Vibe Check
Real 😂
That would have been awesome especially since he had an episode where he lied about being a Power Ranger.
@@louiswilson3653Yeah!
nah, Boom is clearly the Bulk & Skull of the season: a hero that doesn't need powers to do the right thing AND get others to follow suit
also Sam just ads to the whole lore of SPD being a far greater organization, i do however wish they would have had him hang out more with the team in suit form
Imagine watching Power Rangers SPD in Surround Sound, only to be
hit with the first three notes of the theme song while falling out of
your chair.
So this is what happens when you bake a cake for Darth Vader but you don't put any sprinkles on it
??????
"EXPLAIN"
One theory I've read is that Danny Delgado was Z's dad (who married the flower girl). Be cool, but I'd hate to imagine him dead.
the Kruger images make me feel Kruger is staring into my soul
And the dude doesn't like what he sees😂
@@ZipplyZane Either he's suddenly much more human, or you get a face full of nightmares. Maybe both!
This is a blessing; I look forward to Mystic & RPM.
Yep. Just only 2 series to be updated a new versions.
The slowmotion zoom repeat on explosions only serves to emphasize how the actors/stuntpeople lean down to get power and momentum for their backflip...
The worst part about spd is finding out how few episodes it got
"Despite one not knowing what a clock looks like"
Sadly, that's real. My friends and fam who are teachers always say that kids nowadays don't know how to read traditional clocks
2:06 Dr K: challenge accepted....
Personally I think Kruger's wife being dead is a lot more better and impactful for him knowing that he can lose those he loves and cares about.
Maybe they didn't want to repeat that from Cole in 'Wild Force' with his parents.
@@jamesatkinsonja yet they like to recycle the whole brother and sister story from In Space
@@TheBandit025Nova In fairness to RPM Judd Lynn was under a time crisis to get the show finished so I can see why he took that plot off the shelf.
@@MahdiRanger I can think of something else that is cold as ice.....
@Pikachu2Ash There's colder Ip but it's sad how little they've been able to do with power rangers. Thankfully the comics did well.
Apparently Hasbro is looking for a partner to replace Netflix and given how the series has been cancelled before and returned [such as after RPM] It probably will be back someday. I'd suspect it would be a hard reboot given how 'Cosmic Fury' was designed to 'clear the deck'.
Huh. This is uploaded very shortly after Connor's Time Force vid.
I am not accusing you or anything. Its just a funny coincidence. XD
It's fun when that happens
