I just realized that Lightspeed Rescue is the first season to have villains that were not from space. Just think about that, all of the previous villains were either aliens or robots from space.
It also expands the universe more and shows that Earth has its own mythology tied into the Power Rangers. Not only do we have demons introduced as being an actual thing and not just something inspired by aliens (ancient aliens), but King Neptune's appearance shows that the Greek Gods exist in the PR Universe. Makes the universe feel more similar to DC and Marvel where the universe has everything and the kitchen sink.

The fact that Carter was ready to be locked in essentially hell with all of those demons without hesitation says a lot about his character ontop of all the other stuff in the show.

Carter Grayson is a hero both in and out of his suit on top of being a genuine inspiration to some Ranger fans who went on to become Firefighters in real life. Badass doesn't even begin to describe how amazing of a Ranger and person Carter Grayson is.
my favorite episode is the one where carter remembers the firefighter that saved his life. Because he was inspired to save lives after watching a real hero in action.
Carter is probably the most active ranger. Tommy took breaks in between his original run and becoming the black ranger in dino thunder. Carter seemingly was active through wild force and was still a emergency responder, who probably had access to his ranger form whenever he needed it, all the way through the big anniversary crossover.
Wild Force is only 2 years after Lightspeed Rescue, Tommy already had 5 years of Ranger experience (and 5 years of "retirement"), at that point, and returned to active ranger status 2 years later. Assuming both he and Carter both stayed active as rangers between then and the Legendary Battle adaptation, he'd still have 1 year of active ranger experience over Grayson.
I have a Japanese friend who’s more familiar with Sentai than Power Rangers. When she asked me what Power Rangers was like, I mostly showed her clips of Carter Grayson being a badass. She understood quickly why I liked Power Rangers so much

Same. That season may have given us a nonsensical character but it also gave us a character who proved that you can be awesome and beloved even without a character or character development. You just have to be cool or alike.

@@nine_tails137 Personally, the only Overdrive Rangers I cared about were Mack, Rose and Tyzonn but that's only because Mack got all of the development, Rose wasn't as dumb as others with the whole "You're rich! Buy an army!" (That's a dumb moment right there for Hartford) and Tyzonn is only there because of my friend/neighbor who enjoyed Overdrive and the Mercury Ranger and personally, he's responsible for me not hating it (which I don't mind at all because we had fun with it despite being too old for PR at the time). Also, yeah. I try not to shit on actors doing their job and I mean no disrespect towards Alpha's VA on Overdrive but even though the previous VA wouldn't save this special, goddamn I would shatter Zordon just to get any of the previous VA again. Also, Thrax sucks and if I recall correctly, the late Robert Axelrod even dismisses him as Zedd's son which he should especially when Rita refused to have kids. And man, that DVD line was so bad in my book because IMO that remark COULD have worked since even though being human meant a lot to Mack and other fictional robot characters, being a robot could be cool and there are neat stuff one can do. Look at guys like Mega Man, Astro Boy, Jenny Wakeman and Bender Rodriguez as well as others like Android 18 who prove that being robots (or cyborgs) ain't as bad as you think. But, NO, DVDs inside your head is neat in Dax's book... I feel sorry for his actor. He didn't deserve this role unless I missed something about him.
Probably. The virus would've manifested as a demon, Carter and the rangers destroy him both in ground and Zord fights and we would all be saved and happy while the rangers talk about the Heart of the Cards.

Also Dana, Kelsey and Ryan would be helping the victims, Captain Mitchell would be quarantined and the rangers pull out all of their zords for some epic finish (kinda like how the Space Rangers fought the remaining Psychos with their Zords). That's probably how I would've written the climax to "How Lightspeed Rescue defeated the Coronavirus".
Lightspeed Rescue was the 1st season of Power Rangers that I really got invested in as a kid. Carter Grayson was my hero, and inspired me to become a firefighter ^_^
I love the backstory as to why Carter wanted to be a fireman! It’s relatable to me in terms of why I wanted to go into the education field and help students who struggle like I did.
On Mitchell. He’s a military man. He’s used to operating in a chain of command. You do as your Commanding Officer tells you, without question. He doesn’t expect the rangers to ask questions, or to waste time himself by giving an explanation. He expects them to do as he says and trust he knows what he’s talking about.
That's all true and makes for rock solid characterisation _but_ he's also the guy who knowingly, intentionally brought in civilians instead of soldiers to take up the Ranger mantles with absolutely no time to develop a military mindset of their own before they were going to see action. He had a ton of potential options to make it work, from learning to be more flexible in his leadership style, to bringing the Rangers in much earlier, to giving direct command of the team to someone who _could_ be more flexible if he found himself too set in his ways. Just bringing in civilians and expecting them to act like highly trained soldiers right out of the gate definitely looks like a misstep on his part. It's not a huge issue - Lightspeed's a damn fine season and Mitchell's a good character - but it would have been good to at least see an episode that examined that disconnect and had Mitchell and the team meeting halfway, with the Rangers acknowledging that they need to respect his orders while Mitchell acknowledges that it's going to take them time to develop that respect on the instinctive level.
@@PineappolisI completely agree! It’s a really interesting character flaw, and I would like to see more time spent with Mitchell learning to work with the team more, and/or the team rising to his level and thinking more strategically and acting with the training of a military unit.

It could also have led to some interesting character moments as the different Rangers react differently to following their orders, having come to terms with the military way of doing things, and disengaging the moment they get the upper time against an extremely dangerous enemy - only to find it wasn't a tactical decision but a personal one. Obviously it's Power Rangers, so they're not going to flip their lid that he didn't want them to... kill his son, but even just short, kneejerk reactions could inform the different characters a lot.
@@RoosterMontgomery Whoo, now you're getting into deep, interesting territory. It's probably the strongest argument for pacifism - or certainly for not serving in conventional armed forces. The effectiveness of any chain of command, in the thick of battle, _will_ occasionally rely on orders being followed to the letter on a second-to-second basis. If you spend time second-guessing it, it's likely more front-line troops on your side will die - maybe a lot (this obviously doesn't apply to, say, shackled POWs - there are plenty you can and should make a stand on). Sure, _afterwards,_ there can be an inquiry. If the order was a war crime and you belayed it or refused, those deaths will be on the head of the officer who gave the order. If it wasn't or even if you _realised_ it wasn't too late, they're on yours. Either way, you're in a Catch-22 where people who would have lived died or you potentially end up committing a war crime. ...on the other hand, sometimes wars of defence absolutely need to be fought and hand-wringing isn't going to get it done - nor does keeping your hands clean expecting others' to be dirtied. It ultimately comes down to how much you trust your country's command structure, which is a damn hard thing to decide. *Tl;dr:* joining up will mean externalising a portion of your morality and putting it the hands of others. Sometimes, however, like when demons will destroy the world if you don't, you may just have to take that risk and trust those others because the alternative is worse.
Carter Grayson is arguably one of best Red Rangers the team has ever had.True, he wasn't a leader like Jason or a legend like Tommy became, but he's the only Red Ranger that kept being an active Hero in the Rangerverse.All the other's (save for Tommy) gave it up and retired. He's also the only Ranger to ever use Common Sense during Combat (take out the biggest threat in the area, use your environment to your advantage, etc.)...
I was with you until you said "all the others retired" unless you meant very specifically red Rangers otherwise you'd be incorrect cause it seems pretty likely that Adam has been a Ranger nearly his entire life since he came back as a Ranger for In Space then later in Operation Overdrive which even showed multiple other Rangers from other seasons in active duty so it seems likely that unless specifically shown in the show that the Ranger retired that most Rangers just stay Rangers "once a Ranger always a Ranger" as they say.
@@theninjamaster67 You are wrong on one point. Adam's appearance in In Space showed that he was not an active ranger. He just had his broken morpher which didn't work/was too dangerous to actually use. Operation Overdrive does literally state that their powers were restored so they could help. Two of the veteran rangers still had their powers but Keira (yellow dino), Tori (Blue ninja storm), and Adam needed their powers to be given back to them.
At least Diabolico didn't waste time when he was in danger of losing his star power. He sought to eliminate the Titanium Ranger so it couldn't be used against him, and when all his monsters were defeated he went down and fought the rangers himself. And when he was defeated, he accepted his defeat like a noble soldier. That was the kind of loyalty Queen Banshera never inspired or cared for.
I think this remake of the Lightspeed video has the most new commentary and insight compared other re-edits of the original videos, really happy I decided to give this a re-watch because of it!
@@nine_tails137 I stopped after SPD. The new production in New Zealand in the "Disney" era killed my interest in watching the series, but this retrospectives really make me wanna watch the whole thing again, now from an adults perspective.
@@Chalepastel I too stopped watching after Dino Thunder, and even skipped the seasons 13-17 collectors set, until I found out most PR seasons are gone from Netflix.(Even Beast Morphers is missing episodes). But after watching S.P.D., Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive, and Jungle Fury, I realized I missed out on some half-descent to really good seasons. Mystic Force and Overdrive failed to impress me though. I'm currently watching RPM(as of this reply), and it's really good so far. Although I'm not a fan of them making the comic relief character(aka: Ziggy) a Power Ranger.
i know carter grayson may seem dull. but if you just think about it his whole personality is that he is just a 100 percent superhero. a captain america like figure. it works for him.

Really makes me wish Japanese law included the concept of fair use and/or TH-cam would tell Toei that Alphabet, Linkara, the Power Rangers, and the audience are all based in the US and subject to US law which does include fair use but the execs at Alphabet genuinely don't care about their users so 🙅

I actually really liked when we first see the Lightspeed and Super Train Megazords together. It very much fits with the theme of them being a military organization. It makes sense that they would work to improve the Super Train Megazord to the point when it no longer needs the Lightspeed zords to function
Nestled in-between popular entries like In Space or Time Force, Lightspeed always felt like a forgotten middle child of the franchise. But it really is a great addition to PR 😊
12:14 Been thinking about that, and I think part of the reason why they would have recruited civilians is primarily BECAUSE their organization is the military. One of the big downsides/common perceptions of the military is that they're basically trained to think and act in certain ways in certain situations, and oftentimes are oriented heavily towards obedience, following the exact chain of command, and generally not encouraging independent thought. Additionally, while pulling Rangers from within an organization would certainly be faster and probably easier, can run the risk of only having people who have a stagnant state of mind, being too complacent and used to acting or thinking in a certain way, and running into problems when those methods don't work or can't be applied because the situation requires out-of-the-box thinking. Lightspeed pulling from trained professionals (or at least exceptionally skilled and talented individuals) who are nonetheless still civilians ensures that they can get people who can act and think from a different perspective while still ensuring they'd still be able to handle the stresses and rigours of being a Ranger for a top secret organization. Kind of like Agent J being recruited for the Men in Black if you will, except with colorful spandex.

Fun Fact about Vypra in the German Dub: Her Voice Actor there actually bothers to give a damn and she is, like, five times better as a Villain as a result. That goes for all of the Demons, actually: Their German Voice Actors bring a lot more Emotion and Character to them in their performance then their English Counterparts do, from what I have seen. Just goes to show how much of an improvement Voice Actors for Dubs can be sometimes.
Is the same with mexican voice actors, the mexican dub of Power Rangers, from MMPR to Ninja Storm, is consider some of the best in Mexico's dubbing history. During the Disney era (minus Ninja Storm), the Latin America dub was done in Argentina... and BOY it sucked balls. It was until Samurai that the dub returned to Mexico and lets hope it stays that way.

Despite the lame bland villains I really like Lightspeed Rescue, specially due to the rangers themselves (Carter is one my favorite red rangers of all time), the megazord battles and theme centered around rescue and heroism. The rangers in this seasons didn't fought monsters but always tried to save civilians from colateral damage and other danger situations. There were even episodes, like "Go Volcanic" where the rangers inspired criminals to help some civilians, showing how they don't rescue people just from danger but also from their mistakes, inspiring them to be better.

I agree. I actually think it's one of the better seasons. Easily top 10, maybe even top 5. The demons were kinda bland, but they're literally _demons._ How much nuance do you really want them to have? They're evil for evil's sake because they're _demons._ The rest of the show really makes up for it by having strong characters that you can look up to, interesting plots, and themes that really resonate with the ideals of being a hero, not just a superhero.
Diabolico is my favorite Villain in Lightseed. Especially when he turns on Banshira near the end. But I do agree that his comradery with Lokai should have been addressed earlier in the season.
I consider Carter to be one of my most favorite Red Rangers. And the Lightspeed Rescue theme to be arguably my most favorite of the Saban Post-Zordon Era intro themes.
I want to say that Lightspeed Ranger is actually the first ever Power Ranger season I saw all the way to the end when I was a kid so a piece of nostalgia kicks in for me personally even if the season itself has flaws and it isn't my favorite (that would be next season). Anyways, thanks for the late christmas gift, linkara. I always appreciate more History of Power Rangers this time of year!
The cobra tattoo arc of this season traumatized me as a kid (my family hates snakes and seeing a cobra tattoo killing someone scared the shit out of me)
I think the difference in how Carter Grayson is viewed is mostly a case of physical vs action. Physically Carter's face is just... not as emotive? There's something around it where he kind of "Looks bland" when talking and delivering his lines. Which I can understand people getting that sort of view from him. But his actual actions in the context of the story, what he's doing and saying, isn't really bland at all. Leads to the two interpretations. And when you're binge watching a show like presumably happened for History of Power Rangers here you're more likely to notice running at a monster with just your pistols, calling it out. Or trying to run it over. Or just his own selfless sacrifices he wants to make. But if you're watching it as part of regular airing you might really notice the expression and appearance more. I dunno, it's a shame. Carter is probably my favorite Red Ranger overall. RPM's Scott perhaps second place.
Carter's batshit insanity is definitely derived from the Sentai footage, where his counterpart is a harsh commander big brother with few screws loose. Semi-related, but Andros had a similar case where he acts like a different person even in original fight footage.
Also, even before becoming a Ranger he was a firefighter. Between the physical challenges in training, having to learn to make quick yet careful decisions on a regular basis, needing to maintain calm even in a dire scenario. His combat style also reflects that, roadkilling the enemy before any fancy tactics, shooting at distance before actually engaging in hand-to-hand. Carter needs lots of smarts and physical prowess just to pull any of the stunt he has done and needs to be as stoic as possible to avoid panic.
I'm actually glad the last scene was not completely removed. Says much when a bunch of demons, planning to DESTROY a lot of lives, mock "I'm ramming you" Carter, his response is NUKE THEM ALL. Just utter badass! Also this was a great Christmas gift! Thank you Linkara, hope you and your love ones had a good Christmas!
four facts about this season: 1 - Carter is undeniably the best red ranger 2 - The opening is awesome, the guitar riff is simply the best in the whole franchise 3 - Seeing the rangers as heroes outside of the ranger part is something that should be shown more 4 - The demons villain theme is really cool I absolutely love Lightspeed rescue, but only after watching it after growing up

Vypra was a rather neat idea, but she seemed to have gotten lost(due to sensors, probably) somewhere. It would've been an interesting subplot if She started having a "Thing" for Carter. Give just her a couple of Wins over the Rangers, with them thinking Carter is feeding her intel(especially if their caught by Daina clandestinely meeting up for a date).

39:05 Technically GoGoV did with Beast-Demon Hunter Zeek and his successor Zeek-Jeanne but I guess since he was a movie exclusive character there would be limited footage of him(though not like that's not the same issue with Titanium), and Zeek-Jeanne's suit lacked a visor leaving her face exposed which would probably also lead to filming difficulties still could have potentially given us the first female sixth ranger.

As you said, it's a Government Operation that's constantly making new tech, and it'd be believable that they'd also work to improve old tech as well, and as such would work on the Super Train Megazord in order to make it so it doesn't require the Lightspeed Zord to operate, in case they needed both Megazords.
As a kid, I managed to watch the very tail end of Lightspeed Rescue before I properly started watching with Time Force so when it comes to watching Power Rangers on TV on a regular basis, I have Lightspeed Rescue to thank. Underrated season in my opinion. Yes, it has some negatives like the villains (except Diabolico) and the Trakeena's Revenge team up but all in all, Lightspeed Rescue should be watched by more people, especially since this time, there were no high school students or whatever. It was a more mature (by children's TV standards) show using adults in a governmental military task force which was cool to see. Also, Carter. Hands down one of my favourite rangers ever. Dude's just a badass, and fun fact, the Lightspeed Rescue actually got to keep the jackets as a souvenir from the show.
I can respect the Firefighter's first response to the Fire Demon was to "run this B**** over"...even though it didn't work, it was realistic and hilarious.
I feel called out about the stabilizer comment given I just mentioned that! Actually pretty funny. But I'd still argue that the suit and his strength from the suit are more than enough to withstand the force of the cannon, he just doesn't have the proper leverage to do so without them, so stabilizers still make sense. As an aside, your two big complaints about Mitchell actually make a ton of sense. He's a military guy. They don't explain orders, they expect them to be followed. He might be dealing with civilians who aren't military, minus his daughter, but that doesn't mean he automatically knows the best way to do it.

That line from Fairweather about "robots not having hearts" becomes REALLY awkward when we've since had two robot rangers who acted like and eventually became human beings.
The lesson: DON'T SCREW WITH CARTER GRAYSON! I think out of all the red rangers Crater Grayson is the most badass red ranger in the series like Jason and TJ.

Lightspeed was my gateway into the series and I definitely owned (own? I should check) the McD’s vhs. As best as I can remember, I think the ranger sequences were given the red-blue 3D treatment, but the last time I watched that tape was probably 2003, so no promises on that being accurate. Also, I recently did a rewatch of this season and I can’t believe you neglected to mention the filler episode where Dana gets wrapped up in a hostage situation on a bus where the guy holding them hostage is a normal human with a revolver!? Probably the first and last time a real world-style gun was used in PR
Lightspeed Rescue was a lot of fun for me. I think that team holds the honor of being the very first Power Ranger team that was ever made known to the general public in their universe (they didn't have to hide their identities). Also, the entire Titanium Ranger arc was one of the best Power Ranger story arcs that I've ever seen, and I think one of the best story arcs that has ever been created, especially when the Cobra Curse got added to the mix! That being said though, there was one element of this series that I SERIOUSLY questioned the usefulness of: The Life Force Megazord. In my book, a Megazord that uses its pilots' own life force to power it is just too damn dangerous to operate, even as an absolute last resort.

I remember when I first saw all of these as a kid. I grew up right when Time force was airing. So I can tell you, as a kid seeing Lightspeed reruns and watching Ryan turn to a good guy was mind blowing.
Ahh sweet. Another updated version of Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue. This is getting more better. I wonder if Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall will be able to like VR Troopers, Big Bad Beetleborgs and my favorite one Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog which was so very popular in my home country Ireland.

You know, as much as i love Power Rangers(i grew up with it like you did Linkara), i can't help but that somewhere in the Multiverse that there's a Good Guy version of Umbrella Corp. That funded Lightspeed Rescue....
With all the sealed eviles/Z wave survivors that come in the post Zordon Era, I find it a fun mental exercise to speculate on how they would interact with the United Alliance of Evil. With Lightspeed... Banshera, waste of a perfectly amazing name BTW, would likely try to take over. And subsequently get curbstomped.
You know what the Morphing sequence reminds me of? The suit up sequence from G Gundam. Which could only mean one thing, the demons are going to revive Banshira by using the Dark Gundam WITH THE HELP of KYOJIIIIIIIII! Great, now I'm imagining the Lightspeed Rangers as the Shuffle Alliance and Ryan is Master Asia. But in all seriousness Lightspeed Rescue is a decent back to basic series that helped give the writers a clean break from the Zordon era. Moving on from one long continuous storyline for lack of a better term to being more like Sentai and just having it be a self contained story minus the team ups. Admittedly it took me a bit of a while to catch on to that when I was a kid but hey I caught on and went with it. Oh and the Titanium Ranger suit, was near perfection, looked like it actually did come from Go-Go Five. Sadly the Demons were what dragged the show down, granted the Psyma Family wasn't that much better but at least they had the Family vs Family thing going on. All and all Lightspeed is a nice amuse bouche for the direction that Power Rangers was heading towards. Here's to the next HOPR and may the power protect you.

Funnily enough about the dairanger suits, it's been confirmed that one of the upcoming power rangers comic issues will involve the dairangers a.k.a. squadron rangers (still not a fan of that name), as well including a black ranger, which the dairangers themselves didn't have one.
For me lightspeed rescue and spd are my favorite Power. Ranger seasons of all time. I like the Characters and the interaction with each getting some great episodes.
You know, considering the old lady who doesn't think monsters are real, that makes me wonder, how many conspiracy theorists do you think there are in the Power Rangers universe that thinks all the rangers and monsters are fake? Like flat Earthists or such. Maybe a pair of such people could make for good comic relief we enjoy seeing getting their due.
Good grief, now I'm picturing a J. Jonah Jamieson character constantly ragging on the Rangers, blabbing on about how irresponsible they are, do more damage than good, are the entire reason the monsters come to Earth in the first place and saying how the Rangers should just leave fighting the monsters to the police and the military, which is even dumber since Lightspeed Rescue ARE the police/military, yet I do see such a thing still happening
Apparently, they DO exist in-universe (or at the very least implied to be). The current showrunner, Simon Bennett, said that it would be unrealistic for Earth to NOT have people denying monster attacks even with piles of information and evidence (he even compared it to stuff like the moon landing or flat earth). I'm guessing Warden Garcia was also one until the Sporix attacks happened in public spaces.

And I’d bet somewhere in Cyborg Rangers, a young Andrew Hartford sees the robot Rangers in action and begins to think of a robot of his own. Also I agree with you about Lightspeed repurposing the Ranger tech Lewis, it goes along with a theory I had about Zordon and the reason he sacrificed himself was to stop the immediate universe conquering threat but there are just threats that the Angel Grove Rangers won’t be able to stop. Also I’d like to think that maybe Zordon was realizing it may have been a dick move to make teenagers do this kind of stuff so best leave the Ranger tech in the hands of people who can use it to help defend the earth and choose people well suited for the job. Sure this method led to some… questionable choices in that regard later on, (SHUT! UP! DAX!) but you know what I mean.

I asked former supervising producer who was also a writer Tony Oliver why they never used the DaiRanger suits and the answer was simply, “Brand Recognition” which I guess makes sense even if it is a bit disappointing to me because of how much I love the DaiRanger suits. I like to think that if they DID use the DaiRanger suits things would’ve been easier to work with sentai footage wise and the show would’ve seen the same level of success.
@@GodShadowdeath the issue wasn’t dairanger being a flop or not. Sentai had 16 different teams and many more years for audience to recognize the sentai style as a changing motif. MMPR was only around one season and was insanely popular as that motif, dinosaurs being extremely popular at the time with the release of Jurassic Park in the same year as MMPR: 1993. With dinosaur hype high it was a big enough risk just to get rid of the dinozords let alone the dinosaur branding from the rangers themselves.

Completely understand why one of the names at the beginning needed to be changed, but congratulations on coming up with a new name that was ten times funnier. Not often I let out a big ol laugh before the one minute mark in a video. Kudos.
The overall story for LR is fine in my opinion. It, indeed, has some nostalgic ideas coming from the previous series, including the original Mighty Morphin seasons, but I find that everyone’s acting can be flat most of the time, especially Vypra’s. I still enjoy the season for what it’s worth; think of it as a good season, even with the flaws contained in it.
As a kid, I liked Vypra as a character, since she was the first human-looking Villain, who wasn't formally human turned evil like Astronama(save for Rita). But after hearing Linkara talk about her bad acting....Yeah, I have to agree with Linkara on this.

Fun fact from TV Tropes. Toei and PLEX produced entirely original Zords for the Red and Titanium Rangers, but Saban declined to use them due to the expense. Also there’s a whole Reddit post on how cool Carter was
27:25 going off of your Reverse Engineered Ranger Tech theory, it's possible that they could have recruited the space rangers to help with the construction of the zords, and they could have told team making the zords, and in turn, the Lightspeed rangers could have learned the Galaxy Rangers identities through the team.

Yeah, gonna say most of the fandom giving Carter Grayson a second chance was cause of Linkara. Upon watching the first version of this, and rewatching Lightspeed, it turned out we were wrong.
Personally, I always like Carter. Never understood why as a kid but growing up, he was a heroic badass. Even if he lacked character, his actions spoke for him along with the rangers.
I'm still scratching my head as to how the Grid was able to support the Cyborg Rangers using the same colors and I'm surprised there is so little discourse around it
One of my favorite things about these reuploads is seeing what you've found out since you first upload. Keeps the videos from feeling like a repeat so kudos for taking time for additional research. I appreciate the effort. Also I feel like the opinon on Carter Grayson did shift after the original video so I think you got the ball rolling on that if nothing else.
I feel Olympius was a great villain and was the best one of this season, if that amounts to something. He was cunning, devious, powerful and his plans were more out the box compared to others which were might makes right. Let's not forget that one of his plans ended with the rangers' deaths in another timeline. Him being a Momma's Boy also helped make him more memorable in my eyes, always trying to get the favor of his mother but ultimately couldn't. Also helps that he had a good voice actor, I still remember Michael Forest's performance to this day. For Bansheera, I think she makes a good end boss and is complete evil but it's hindered due to the fact that her underlings don't have contrasting personalities. Loki, Vypra and to an extent Diabolico don't really stand out because they were just generic villains who served under a greater evil. If the camaraderie between them were more prominent or had other motives to serve Bansheera, they'll be more memorable. But they don't and it's to their detriment that they get lost to a greater evil. Something I noticed was that Bansheera was the first evil parent in Power Rangers that held no love in her heart for her children. Previous seasons had the evil side care for their offsprings but Bansheera couldn't care less about Olympius when he failed. We've never seen that before in PR so that makes Bansheera a lot more memorable in my eyes, she had no sense of love or loyalty and that cost her.
Thank you for giving the baddies some credit! Despite the simplicity of the demons they still are scary villains, especially bansheera who is the devil to me, because there is no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
Yeah, Olympius was cool and I never notice how much of a Momma's Boy he was. Kinda wish he survived until the end just for a more dramatic end or a ghost like Diabolico. Honestly, those two and Bansheera were cool looking demons who kinda work as just "evil villains". Even if they're too simple, they were still cool and threatening enough for me to say "They don't suck".

Honestly, it'll give me time to rewatch SPD, Mystic Force, Overdrive, Jungle Fury and RPM before the re-uploads. Though I am sad I won't be able to watch the originals.
So for the lady there's my take on her, (not defending as what she said was dumb) maybe she's like those old people you see in action or mecha anime where they just miss the cool shit, or when the ranger were on tv, she changed channel as she doesn't like talk shows, and maybe when people think monsters in this season they think fairy tale stuff like fairies, mermaids and stuff, but if you said demons she had called the rangers instantly. That or she's one of those idiots who thinks the rangers aren't real and the monsters were a promotional stunt for some monster movie. The real reason? Dumb conclict and to pad the episode, if she had been like "OH no monsters? Let me put out an alert to the police." which would get the rangers attention then the episode would have been half as long as it was.
Not surprised if there's people out there thinking that Power Rangers are either fake or menace to society. Imagine there's a J. Jonah Jameson type character ranting against the Power Rangers.
This is the first history of Powe Rangers video I've watched and it was good fun, especially as someone who watched these shows as a kid. Lightspeed rescue to me is just ok overall. The ranger characters were pretty good overall and we're pretty awesome especially Carter and Ryan, the zords were pretty badass and awesome, though I did wish many of the main villains were better. (With the exceptions of Diabolico and Bansheera them being the best of the villains.) A decent series but I prefer others honestly.
I love how you added parts to this review what with the change in people's attitudes towards Carter and even adding parts with Ryan's discussion and the stuff at the beginning. It's just nice to hear the additions to add after years on top of keeping everything that made the video great originally like the lady you are the dumbest person in power rangers ever and what not.
I just realized that Lightspeed Rescue is the first season to have villains that were not from space. Just think about that, all of the previous villains were either aliens or robots from space.
It also expands the universe more and shows that Earth has its own mythology tied into the Power Rangers. Not only do we have demons introduced as being an actual thing and not just something inspired by aliens (ancient aliens), but King Neptune's appearance shows that the Greek Gods exist in the PR Universe. Makes the universe feel more similar to DC and Marvel where the universe has everything and the kitchen sink.

Carter Grayson is a hero both in and out of his suit on top of being a genuine inspiration to some Ranger fans who went on to become Firefighters in real life. Badass doesn't even begin to describe how amazing of a Ranger and person Carter Grayson is.
my favorite episode is the one where carter remembers the firefighter that saved his life. Because he was inspired to save lives after watching a real hero in action.

Carter is probably the most active ranger. Tommy took breaks in between his original run and becoming the black ranger in dino thunder. Carter seemingly was active through wild force and was still a emergency responder, who probably had access to his ranger form whenever he needed it, all the way through the big anniversary crossover.
Not to mention carter was a total badass that used his guns and car to kill
Wild Force is only 2 years after Lightspeed Rescue, Tommy already had 5 years of Ranger experience (and 5 years of "retirement"), at that point, and returned to active ranger status 2 years later. Assuming both he and Carter both stayed active as rangers between then and the Legendary Battle adaptation, he'd still have 1 year of active ranger experience over Grayson.

@@nine_tails137 Personally, the only Overdrive Rangers I cared about were Mack, Rose and Tyzonn but that's only because Mack got all of the development, Rose wasn't as dumb as others with the whole "You're rich! Buy an army!" (That's a dumb moment right there for Hartford) and Tyzonn is only there because of my friend/neighbor who enjoyed Overdrive and the Mercury Ranger and personally, he's responsible for me not hating it (which I don't mind at all because we had fun with it despite being too old for PR at the time).
Also, yeah. I try not to shit on actors doing their job and I mean no disrespect towards Alpha's VA on Overdrive but even though the previous VA wouldn't save this special, goddamn I would shatter Zordon just to get any of the previous VA again.
Also, Thrax sucks and if I recall correctly, the late Robert Axelrod even dismisses him as Zedd's son which he should especially when Rita refused to have kids. And man, that DVD line was so bad in my book because IMO that remark COULD have worked since even though being human meant a lot to Mack and other fictional robot characters, being a robot could be cool and there are neat stuff one can do. Look at guys like Mega Man, Astro Boy, Jenny Wakeman and Bender Rodriguez as well as others like Android 18 who prove that being robots (or cyborgs) ain't as bad as you think. But, NO, DVDs inside your head is neat in Dax's book...

Also Dana, Kelsey and Ryan would be helping the victims, Captain Mitchell would be quarantined and the rangers pull out all of their zords for some epic finish (kinda like how the Space Rangers fought the remaining Psychos with their Zords). That's probably how I would've written the climax to "How Lightspeed Rescue defeated the Coronavirus".

On Mitchell. He’s a military man. He’s used to operating in a chain of command. You do as your Commanding Officer tells you, without question. He doesn’t expect the rangers to ask questions, or to waste time himself by giving an explanation. He expects them to do as he says and trust he knows what he’s talking about.
That's all true and makes for rock solid characterisation _but_ he's also the guy who knowingly, intentionally brought in civilians instead of soldiers to take up the Ranger mantles with absolutely no time to develop a military mindset of their own before they were going to see action. He had a ton of potential options to make it work, from learning to be more flexible in his leadership style, to bringing the Rangers in much earlier, to giving direct command of the team to someone who _could_ be more flexible if he found himself too set in his ways. Just bringing in civilians and expecting them to act like highly trained soldiers right out of the gate definitely looks like a misstep on his part. It's not a huge issue - Lightspeed's a damn fine season and Mitchell's a good character - but it would have been good to at least see an episode that examined that disconnect and had Mitchell and the team meeting halfway, with the Rangers acknowledging that they need to respect his orders while Mitchell acknowledges that it's going to take them time to develop that respect on the instinctive level.
@@PineappolisI completely agree! It’s a really interesting character flaw, and I would like to see more time spent with Mitchell learning to work with the team more, and/or the team rising to his level and thinking more strategically and acting with the training of a military unit.

It could also have led to some interesting character moments as the different Rangers react differently to following their orders, having come to terms with the military way of doing things, and disengaging the moment they get the upper time against an extremely dangerous enemy - only to find it wasn't a tactical decision but a personal one.
Obviously it's Power Rangers, so they're not going to flip their lid that he didn't want them to... kill his son, but even just short, kneejerk reactions could inform the different characters a lot.
Without question, eh? Then comes those morally grey or outright illegal orders that prompt some to say: "I was just following orders."
@@RoosterMontgomery Whoo, now you're getting into deep, interesting territory. It's probably the strongest argument for pacifism - or certainly for not serving in conventional armed forces.
The effectiveness of any chain of command, in the thick of battle, _will_ occasionally rely on orders being followed to the letter on a second-to-second basis. If you spend time second-guessing it, it's likely more front-line troops on your side will die - maybe a lot (this obviously doesn't apply to, say, shackled POWs - there are plenty you can and should make a stand on).
Sure, _afterwards,_ there can be an inquiry. If the order was a war crime and you belayed it or refused, those deaths will be on the head of the officer who gave the order. If it wasn't or even if you _realised_ it wasn't too late, they're on yours.
Either way, you're in a Catch-22 where people who would have lived died or you potentially end up committing a war crime.
...on the other hand, sometimes wars of defence absolutely need to be fought and hand-wringing isn't going to get it done - nor does keeping your hands clean expecting others' to be dirtied. It ultimately comes down to how much you trust your country's command structure, which is a damn hard thing to decide.
*Tl;dr:* joining up will mean externalising a portion of your morality and putting it the hands of others. Sometimes, however, like when demons will destroy the world if you don't, you may just have to take that risk and trust those others because the alternative is worse.

Carter Grayson is arguably one of best Red Rangers the team has ever had.True, he wasn't a leader like Jason or a legend like Tommy became, but he's the only Red Ranger that kept being an active Hero in the Rangerverse.All the other's (save for Tommy) gave it up and retired. He's also the only Ranger to ever use Common Sense during Combat (take out the biggest threat in the area, use your environment to your advantage, etc.)...

I was with you until you said "all the others retired" unless you meant very specifically red Rangers otherwise you'd be incorrect cause it seems pretty likely that Adam has been a Ranger nearly his entire life since he came back as a Ranger for In Space then later in Operation Overdrive which even showed multiple other Rangers from other seasons in active duty so it seems likely that unless specifically shown in the show that the Ranger retired that most Rangers just stay Rangers "once a Ranger always a Ranger" as they say.
@@theninjamaster67 You are wrong on one point. Adam's appearance in In Space showed that he was not an active ranger. He just had his broken morpher which didn't work/was too dangerous to actually use. Operation Overdrive does literally state that their powers were restored so they could help. Two of the veteran rangers still had their powers but Keira (yellow dino), Tori (Blue ninja storm), and Adam needed their powers to be given back to them.
What? Carter Grayson is at the very least just as good of a leader as Jason.
At least Diabolico didn't waste time when he was in danger of losing his star power. He sought to eliminate the Titanium Ranger so it couldn't be used against him, and when all his monsters were defeated he went down and fought the rangers himself. And when he was defeated, he accepted his defeat like a noble soldier. That was the kind of loyalty Queen Banshera never inspired or cared for.
I think this remake of the Lightspeed video has the most new commentary and insight compared other re-edits of the original videos, really happy I decided to give this a re-watch because of it!

@@nine_tails137 I stopped after SPD. The new production in New Zealand in the "Disney" era killed my interest in watching the series, but this retrospectives really make me wanna watch the whole thing again, now from an adults perspective.
@@Chalepastel I too stopped watching after Dino Thunder, and even skipped the seasons 13-17 collectors set, until I found out most PR seasons are gone from Netflix.(Even Beast Morphers is missing episodes).
But after watching S.P.D., Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive, and Jungle Fury, I realized I missed out on some half-descent to really good seasons. Mystic Force and Overdrive failed to impress me though. I'm currently watching RPM(as of this reply), and it's really good so far. Although I'm not a fan of them making the comic relief character(aka: Ziggy) a Power Ranger.

I actually really liked when we first see the Lightspeed and Super Train Megazords together. It very much fits with the theme of them being a military organization. It makes sense that they would work to improve the Super Train Megazord to the point when it no longer needs the Lightspeed zords to function
Nestled in-between popular entries like In Space or Time Force, Lightspeed always felt like a forgotten middle child of the franchise. But it really is a great addition to PR 😊

12:14 Been thinking about that, and I think part of the reason why they would have recruited civilians is primarily BECAUSE their organization is the military. One of the big downsides/common perceptions of the military is that they're basically trained to think and act in certain ways in certain situations, and oftentimes are oriented heavily towards obedience, following the exact chain of command, and generally not encouraging independent thought. Additionally, while pulling Rangers from within an organization would certainly be faster and probably easier, can run the risk of only having people who have a stagnant state of mind, being too complacent and used to acting or thinking in a certain way, and running into problems when those methods don't work or can't be applied because the situation requires out-of-the-box thinking.
Lightspeed pulling from trained professionals (or at least exceptionally skilled and talented individuals) who are nonetheless still civilians ensures that they can get people who can act and think from a different perspective while still ensuring they'd still be able to handle the stresses and rigours of being a Ranger for a top secret organization.
Kind of like Agent J being recruited for the Men in Black if you will, except with colorful spandex.

Fun Fact about Vypra in the German Dub: Her Voice Actor there actually bothers to give a damn and she is, like, five times better as a Villain as a result. That goes for all of the Demons, actually: Their German Voice Actors bring a lot more Emotion and Character to them in their performance then their English Counterparts do, from what I have seen.
Just goes to show how much of an improvement Voice Actors for Dubs can be sometimes.

Is the same with mexican voice actors, the mexican dub of Power Rangers, from MMPR to Ninja Storm, is consider some of the best in Mexico's dubbing history.
During the Disney era (minus Ninja Storm), the Latin America dub was done in Argentina... and BOY it sucked balls.
It was until Samurai that the dub returned to Mexico and lets hope it stays that way.

How Vypra has not been featured in a "Best of Bad Acting" compilation (that I know of) is one of Earth's greatest unsolved mysteries.
Despite the lame bland villains I really like Lightspeed Rescue, specially due to the rangers themselves (Carter is one my favorite red rangers of all time), the megazord battles and theme centered around rescue and heroism. The rangers in this seasons didn't fought monsters but always tried to save civilians from colateral damage and other danger situations. There were even episodes, like "Go Volcanic" where the rangers inspired criminals to help some civilians, showing how they don't rescue people just from danger but also from their mistakes, inspiring them to be better.
I do like how diabolico looks menacing yet refined. He could be a contender for speaking poetry

I agree. I actually think it's one of the better seasons. Easily top 10, maybe even top 5. The demons were kinda bland, but they're literally _demons._ How much nuance do you really want them to have? They're evil for evil's sake because they're _demons._ The rest of the show really makes up for it by having strong characters that you can look up to, interesting plots, and themes that really resonate with the ideals of being a hero, not just a superhero.
Diabolico is my favorite Villain in Lightseed. Especially when he turns on Banshira near the end.
But I do agree that his comradery with Lokai should have been addressed earlier in the season.
I appreciate Lightspeed Rescue for not changing the demons to aliens. Nowadays, that's the go to way for PR shows and it got boring.

Carter ‘I respect my rights to bare arms’ Grayson
I consider Carter to be one of my most favorite Red Rangers. And the Lightspeed Rescue theme to be arguably my most favorite of the Saban Post-Zordon Era intro themes.
I want to say that Lightspeed Ranger is actually the first ever Power Ranger season I saw all the way to the end when I was a kid so a piece of nostalgia kicks in for me personally even if the season itself has flaws and it isn't my favorite (that would be next season).

I think the difference in how Carter Grayson is viewed is mostly a case of physical vs action.
Physically Carter's face is just... not as emotive? There's something around it where he kind of "Looks bland" when talking and delivering his lines. Which I can understand people getting that sort of view from him. But his actual actions in the context of the story, what he's doing and saying, isn't really bland at all. Leads to the two interpretations. And when you're binge watching a show like presumably happened for History of Power Rangers here you're more likely to notice running at a monster with just your pistols, calling it out. Or trying to run it over. Or just his own selfless sacrifices he wants to make. But if you're watching it as part of regular airing you might really notice the expression and appearance more.
I dunno, it's a shame. Carter is probably my favorite Red Ranger overall. RPM's Scott perhaps second place.
Carter's batshit insanity is definitely derived from the Sentai footage, where his counterpart is a harsh commander big brother with few screws loose. Semi-related, but Andros had a similar case where he acts like a different person even in original fight footage.
For me, Leo is my number 1 fav. Next is Carter!
Also, even before becoming a Ranger he was a firefighter.
Between the physical challenges in training, having to learn to make quick yet careful decisions on a regular basis, needing to maintain calm even in a dire scenario.
His combat style also reflects that, roadkilling the enemy before any fancy tactics, shooting at distance before actually engaging in hand-to-hand.
Carter needs lots of smarts and physical prowess just to pull any of the stunt he has done and needs to be as stoic as possible to avoid panic.
I'm actually glad the last scene was not completely removed. Says much when a bunch of demons, planning to DESTROY a lot of lives, mock "I'm ramming you" Carter, his response is NUKE THEM ALL. Just utter badass!

Vypra was a rather neat idea, but she seemed to have gotten lost(due to sensors, probably) somewhere. It would've been an interesting subplot if She started having a "Thing" for Carter. Give just her a couple of Wins over the Rangers, with them thinking Carter is feeding her intel(especially if their caught by Daina clandestinely meeting up for a date).

I honestly can see that being possible. As you said, it's a Government Operation that's constantly making new tech, and it'd be believable that they'd also work to improve old tech as well, and as such would work on the Super Train Megazord in order to make it so it doesn't require the Lightspeed Zord to operate, in case they needed both Megazords.
As a kid, I managed to watch the very tail end of Lightspeed Rescue before I properly started watching with Time Force so when it comes to watching Power Rangers on TV on a regular basis, I have Lightspeed Rescue to thank. Underrated season in my opinion. Yes, it has some negatives like the villains (except Diabolico) and the Trakeena's Revenge team up but all in all, Lightspeed Rescue should be watched by more people, especially since this time, there were no high school students or whatever. It was a more mature (by children's TV standards) show using adults in a governmental military task force which was cool to see.
Also, Carter. Hands down one of my favourite rangers ever. Dude's just a badass, and fun fact, the Lightspeed Rescue actually got to keep the jackets as a souvenir from the show.
I can respect the Firefighter's first response to the Fire Demon was to "run this B**** over"...even though it didn't work, it was realistic and hilarious.
I feel called out about the stabilizer comment given I just mentioned that! Actually pretty funny. But I'd still argue that the suit and his strength from the suit are more than enough to withstand the force of the cannon, he just doesn't have the proper leverage to do so without them, so stabilizers still make sense.
As an aside, your two big complaints about Mitchell actually make a ton of sense. He's a military guy. They don't explain orders, they expect them to be followed. He might be dealing with civilians who aren't military, minus his daughter, but that doesn't mean he automatically knows the best way to do it.

Lightspeed Rescue is important because it expands the universe more and shows that Earth has its mythology tied into the Power Rangers. Not only do we have demons introduced as being an actual thing and not just something inspired by aliens (ancient aliens), but King Neptune's appearance shows that the Greek Gods exist in the PR Universe. Makes the universe feel more similar to DC and Marvel where the universe has everything and the kitchen sink.
That line from Fairweather about "robots not having hearts" becomes REALLY awkward when we've since had two robot rangers who acted like and eventually became human beings.

Carter Grayson: Certified Badass
Lightspeed was my gateway into the series and I definitely owned (own? I should check) the McD’s vhs. As best as I can remember, I think the ranger sequences were given the red-blue 3D treatment, but the last time I watched that tape was probably 2003, so no promises on that being accurate.
Also, I recently did a rewatch of this season and I can’t believe you neglected to mention the filler episode where Dana gets wrapped up in a hostage situation on a bus where the guy holding them hostage is a normal human with a revolver!? Probably the first and last time a real world-style gun was used in PR
I still own all my vhs of this show. My favorite cover is the titanium ranger vhs
Lightspeed Rescue was a lot of fun for me. I think that team holds the honor of being the very first Power Ranger team that was ever made known to the general public in their universe (they didn't have to hide their identities). Also, the entire Titanium Ranger arc was one of the best Power Ranger story arcs that I've ever seen, and I think one of the best story arcs that has ever been created, especially when the Cobra Curse got added to the mix!
That being said though, there was one element of this series that I SERIOUSLY questioned the usefulness of: The Life Force Megazord. In my book, a Megazord that uses its pilots' own life force to power it is just too damn dangerous to operate, even as an absolute last resort.

Lightspeed Rescue was the first season of Power Rangers I watched growing up, so I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for it.
I remember when I first saw all of these as a kid. I grew up right when Time force was airing. So I can tell you, as a kid seeing Lightspeed reruns and watching Ryan turn to a good guy was mind blowing.

You know what the Morphing sequence reminds me of? The suit up sequence from G Gundam. Which could only mean one thing, the demons are going to revive Banshira by using the Dark Gundam WITH THE HELP of KYOJIIIIIIIII! Great, now I'm imagining the Lightspeed Rangers as the Shuffle Alliance and Ryan is Master Asia. But in all seriousness Lightspeed Rescue is a decent back to basic series that helped give the writers a clean break from the Zordon era. Moving on from one long continuous storyline for lack of a better term to being more like Sentai and just having it be a self contained story minus the team ups. Admittedly it took me a bit of a while to catch on to that when I was a kid but hey I caught on and went with it. Oh and the Titanium Ranger suit, was near perfection, looked like it actually did come from Go-Go Five. Sadly the Demons were what dragged the show down, granted the Psyma Family wasn't that much better but at least they had the Family vs Family thing going on. All and all Lightspeed is a nice amuse bouche for the direction that Power Rangers was heading towards. Here's to the next HOPR and may the power protect you.

For me lightspeed rescue and spd are my favorite Power. Ranger seasons of all time. I like the Characters and the interaction with each getting some great episodes.
You know, considering the old lady who doesn't think monsters are real, that makes me wonder, how many conspiracy theorists do you think there are in the Power Rangers universe that thinks all the rangers and monsters are fake? Apparently, they DO exist in-universe (or at the very least implied to be). The current showrunner, Simon Bennett, said that it would be unrealistic for Earth to NOT have people denying monster attacks even with piles of information and evidence (he even compared it to stuff like the moon landing or flat earth). I'm guessing Warden Garcia was also one until the Sporix attacks happened in public spaces.

Also I agree with you about Lightspeed repurposing the Ranger tech Lewis, it goes along with a theory I had about Zordon and the reason he sacrificed himself was to stop the immediate universe conquering threat but there are just threats that the Angel Grove Rangers won’t be able to stop.
Also I’d like to think that maybe Zordon was realizing it may have been a dick move to make teenagers do this kind of stuff so best leave the Ranger tech in the hands of people who can use it to help defend the earth and choose people well suited for the job.
Sure this method led to some… questionable choices in that regard later on, (SHUT! UP! DAX!) but you know what I mean.

I asked former supervising producer who was also a writer Tony Oliver why they never used the DaiRanger suits and the answer was simply, “Brand Recognition” which I guess makes sense even if it is a bit disappointing to me because of how much I love the DaiRanger suits. I like to think that if they DID use the DaiRanger suits things would’ve been easier to work with sentai footage wise and the show would’ve seen the same level of success.

@@GodShadowdeath the issue wasn’t dairanger being a flop or not. Sentai had 16 different teams and many more years for audience to recognize the sentai style as a changing motif.
MMPR was only around one season and was insanely popular as that motif, dinosaurs being extremely popular at the time with the release of Jurassic Park in the same year as MMPR: 1993. With dinosaur hype high it was a big enough risk just to get rid of the dinozords let alone the dinosaur branding from the rangers themselves.

Let's face it: Operation: Lightspeed is Day of the Demon, especially unsealing the villains from the tomb.
Completely understand why one of the names at the beginning needed to be changed, but congratulations on coming up with a new name that was ten times funnier. Not often I let out a big ol laugh before the one minute mark in a video. Kudos.
The overall story for LR is fine in my opinion. It, indeed, has some nostalgic ideas coming from the previous series, including the original Mighty Morphin seasons, but I find that everyone’s acting can be flat most of the time, especially Vypra’s. I still enjoy the season for what it’s worth; think of it as a good season, even with the flaws contained in it.
As a kid, I liked Vypra as a character, since she was the first human-looking Villain,
who wasn't formally human turned evil like Astronama(save for Rita).
But after hearing Linkara talk about her bad acting....Yeah, I have to agree with Linkara on this.

27:25 going off of your Reverse Engineered Ranger Tech theory, it's possible that they could have recruited the space rangers to help with the construction of the zords, and they could have told team making the zords, and in turn, the Lightspeed rangers could have learned the Galaxy Rangers identities through the team.

Yeah, gonna say most of the fandom giving Carter Grayson a second chance was cause of Linkara. Upon watching the first version of this, and rewatching Lightspeed, it turned out we were wrong.
Personally, I always like Carter. Never understood why as a kid but growing up, he was a heroic badass. Even if he lacked character, his actions spoke for him along with the rangers.
That and we have had worst personalities in Red Rangers since Carter though he and Joel were the best rangers of the season.

I feel Olympius was a great villain and was the best one of this season, if that amounts to something. He was cunning, devious, powerful and his plans were more out the box compared to others which were might makes right. Let's not forget that one of his plans ended with the rangers' deaths in another timeline.
Him being a Momma's Boy also helped make him more memorable in my eyes, always trying to get the favor of his mother but ultimately couldn't. Also helps that he had a good voice actor, I still remember Michael Forest's performance to this day.
For Bansheera, I think she makes a good end boss and is complete evil but it's hindered due to the fact that her underlings don't have contrasting personalities. Loki, Vypra and to an extent Diabolico don't really stand out because they were just generic villains who served under a greater evil. If the camaraderie between them were more prominent or had other motives to serve Bansheera, they'll be more memorable. But they don't and it's to their detriment that they get lost to a greater evil.
Something I noticed was that Bansheera was the first evil parent in Power Rangers that held no love in her heart for her children. Previous seasons had the evil side care for their offsprings but Bansheera couldn't care less about Olympius when he failed. We've never seen that before in PR so that makes Bansheera a lot more memorable in my eyes, she had no sense of love or loyalty and that cost her.
Thank you for giving the baddies some credit! Despite the simplicity of the demons they still are scary villains, especially bansheera who is the devil to me, because there is no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Yeah, Olympius was cool and I never notice how much of a Momma's Boy he was. Kinda wish he survived until the end just for a more dramatic end or a ghost like Diabolico.
Honestly, those two and Bansheera were cool looking demons who kinda work as just "evil villains". Even if they're too simple, they were still cool and threatening enough for me to say "They don't suck".

So for the lady there's my take on her, (not defending as what she said was dumb) maybe she's like those old people you see in action or mecha anime where they just miss the cool shit, or when the ranger were on tv, she changed channel as she doesn't like talk shows, and maybe when people think monsters in this season they think fairy tale stuff like fairies, mermaids and stuff, but if you said demons she had called the rangers instantly.
That or she's one of those idiots who thinks the rangers aren't real and the monsters were a promotional stunt for some monster movie.
The real reason?
Dumb conclict and to pad the episode, if she had been like "OH no monsters?
Let me put out an alert to the police." which would get the rangers attention then the episode would have been half as long as it was.
Not surprised if there's people out there thinking that Power Rangers are either fake or menace to society.
Imagine there's a J. Jonah Jameson type character ranting against the Power Rangers.

Lightspeed rescue to me is just ok overall. The ranger characters were pretty good overall and we're pretty awesome especially Carter and Ryan, the zords were pretty badass and awesome, though I did wish many of the main villains were better. (With the exceptions of Diabolico and Bansheera them being the best of the villains.) A decent series but I prefer others honestly.
I love how you added parts to this review what with the change in people's attitudes towards Carter and even adding parts with Ryan's discussion and the stuff at the beginning. It's just nice to hear the additions to add after years on top of keeping everything that made the video great originally like the lady you are the dumbest person in power rangers ever and what not.
