CoryxKenshin is a great example of a good reaction channel. He reached out to me personally for permission to feature my animation on his channel and provided proper credit. TH-cam honestly needs to add a “reference” feature for uploads. It would be very easy to prorate the payout to multiple creators based on unique content
It would be nice, but TH-cam will never do that. They don’t care about unique content, they care about big content creators with millions of subs, even if those creators just react to other content.
It's been proven that isn't really effective, Jinx would do that. It's better to shout them out and let their personal ads play, along with promotion of other works. I remember Mystery Science Theatre 3000 had issues when they used to distribute their content. The premise of MST3000 was that it was basically a react channel watching crappy movies and commenting over it, and their solution was that they just distributed audio that *YOU* had to sync with the movie as you watched it (and presumably paid for it separately). TH-cam could pretty easily automate a system like this for creators, that would allow react channels to link the original content and allow creators to set how they want playback framed for two feeds so that it credits the original channel and gives them revenue. TH-cam could even allow this to become nested more deeply than one-level of playback since reactions to reactions are apparently a thing these days.
For those out there who aren't familiar: MTS3K and Rifftrax put SO much work into what they do. The MST3K movies are just that: actual movies. Rifftrax does both. They offer syncable audio for movies that would be considered "block busters" or very "Hollywood". Pretty much anything they riff that has really good production value and money behind it (something you can usually find being streamed somewhere) will be sold as audio only: you only pay about 3 bucks for it and then sync it to the movie. THANK YOU for mentioning them, they don't get enough love. I think it's funny when I see a TH-camr reacting to a movie like "Birdemic" when Rifftrax did it years ago with actual writers, legit comedy, and great timing.
@@MM-jf1me there’s no real tech limitation there, embedding one video feed as an overlay on another isn’t a big deal. To put into perspective how bad react streaming messes with the algorithm, I have yet to be recommended Lemmino's video despite being subscribed to the channel and XQCs reaction has been pushed on me multiple times even though I have never watched anything from him. Hold I would not consider this para-social at all. People See someone they watch and are like "huh I wonder what they say about this". From the Data I have seen the amount of people that watch the reactor have very little overlap with the people that would watch the original video.

A PERFECT example of great reaction content is The Charismatic Voice. She reacts to music, but brings her professional singing career and experience to the table to help dive into and understand the techniques and sounds used by different singers. It's fantastic content!
She also does things like spectrum analysis on parts of the song, and she sometimes interviews and/or jams a camera down the throat of the singers she analyzes. On top of all that, watching one of her videos would be a horrible replacement for watching the music video uninterrupted, so her videos only stand to boost the performance of the originals.
Same with Chris from Vlogging Through History. He adds tons of context to the historical videos he reacts to, especially videos about the US Civil War and WW1.
It’s crazy how this has been an issue on the internet for more than a decade. Around 7 years ago, react channels on YT were getting ridiculed for their laziness and the genre kind of died off as a result. Now the same exact problem is lingering on Twitch, but it’s accepted by even bigger audiences. There isn’t really a solution, unless copyright laws changed which would create even more problems.
copyright laws already cover this, the problem is that they expect smaller actual content creators to bring it to court, some rich asshole who doesn't even live on the same continent, as they're starting to brigade and harrass you with their zombie fanboys.
Back then the face camera in the corner magically protected you from copyright pretty much 99% of the time but in these last few years I think its been less effective as I’ve seen small reaction channels voicing complaints and even dealing with mass copyright takedowns of dozens of videos. But anyways nothing has changed since 2017. Reaction channels aren’t transformative and liking the reactor for their personality or rizz or whatever doesn’t count
I honestly feel like YT and twitch are different cultures. Twitch isn't just about watching someone but also interacting with them, YT is background noise, time-killer, something to do when you're looking for something to do or how to do something. React channels would thrive on twitch cause you're reacting WITH a guy reacting and talking to them about the reaction.
Really cool of Meat to take a firm stance against lazy reaction content, especially the big fish like XQC. He acts like such a petulant child here. In spite of their lack of integrity, I think these channels need to be encouraged to grow, and make their own, unique content.
xQc responded extremely poorly to mutahars claims, and I really think he could've done better like he has in the past. But the reason he didn't, and I know I'm defending him like a parasocial loser right now, but I really want you to try to see it the way I do, and have an actual discussion about this instead of fighting. xQc's life is falling apart right now, and recently he's been lashing out at his friends, which he's openly talked about and called it lashing out, so no presuming there. I think it's a safe assumption to say that with all this sudden drama, xqc responded poorly because of all of this, since in the past he's usually able to handle drama much better.
The word NPC is used a lot. But if someone is always chatting in a stream, watching these types of streams specifically, doing NOTHING else just fully engaged, that is the pure definition of NPC

TH-cam should implement a system where you can make a react category video or collab video and it has a way to add the original creator as a partial owner of the video. That way it can split the money 50/50 between the 2. Then it could benefit the original creator much much more and stop robbing them of money as often. Then it would just be a matter of making a “approve reaction/collab” area for a creator to be able to approve the other channel using their video. They could make it so that like only 150k+ subscribers have the option to apply for reaction approval to stop drowning in requests. Idk they have so much money and a huge platform, you’d think they could easily start beta testing a system like this for the bigger react channels

Exactly. I don’t think people would care as much if xQc reacted to some slop channel like a Critikal or Pyro video (I love their stuff, no shade) - but reacting to a video that someone poured their heart and resources into just feels wrong. They worked hard on that, it’s not yours to share.
It's almost the same in the music industry. People who curate popular Spotify playlists often make more money than most artists (the ones not in the mainstream).
@@jacktaylor4655I’m not really in the know, but streaming services are really hard to get money off of unless you have a fanbase right? Cause you need to have a lot of people listening to your music for you to even make any money off of it. I’m not exactly sure how curators make their money, but wouldn’t that do the opposite of what your saying. It boasts their content, and gives them more listeners that in turn earn them more money. So how exactly do they lose out, because unlike TH-cam with react channels they aren’t losing any listeners or anything. So unless I’m missing something it would actually benefit them. Sure the person who does it, can make more money, but is that at the expense of the creators or is that a byproduct of being a popular curator. Because simply making more money, doesn’t make them bad unless again they are somehow screwing the creators over.
I remember being nearly thrown out of a TH-cam & Twitch panel at a convention here in San Antonio because I brought up that reaction videos are some of the lowest forms of content creation on TH-cam. I was told with a lot of aggression that we shouldn’t be able to claim our own content as our property and that Twitch doesn’t value copyright and that it’s what’s holding TH-cam back.
"React content" can be much more valuable than the content reacted to. Political, cultural, historical, theoretical commentaries are very valuable. TH-cam videos are also publicly available. It's kinda crazy you didnt learn anything from "nearly being thrown out of a panel"
@@UmmadikTasYeah, people having a small screen of yourself eating your dinner in the corner is clearly the same thing as a doctor explaining a medical video or a historian giving insight to a historic video. Mental gymnastics 101
Glad these react videos are being put to light. I do watch xqc maybe weekly, but the reaction videos are so soulless and I just hope this trend gets shot down.
I've recently found your channel Mr. Meat, like two months ago or smh but I just want to say that I absolutely love both your animations and this kind of content. I like how honest you are and unfiltered. Feels kinda rare. Lots of love
Sometimes people forget xQc is a guy who became rich and famous from playing videogames and incoherently yelling all day. I don't reckon he's someone who can engage with logic for too long
Papameat/Meatcanyon has a very good reason to not like these types of "creators" if you can even call them that. He works so hard on his art and puts an immense amount of effort into getting those gems uploaded for our enjoyment. Papa is a TRUE creator...in every sense of the word. We love your meat papa!
He gets millions of views per video. He actually has more to gain when people react to his stuff because it gets exposed to people who otherwise may not have known about it and leads them to go watch more of it on his channel. I'm willing to bet that's how a lot of us got here. And I'm an artist myself, but I wouldn't be opposed to people giving my art exposure through reactions. Art is one of those mediums where its common for people to steal from others, get inspired from others, etc. Nothing under the sun is truly original and everything has already been done before so I don't get territorial about art anymore. Does Meat credit all the actors, musicians and tv shows he uses in his cartoons? Hell no. So he's coming off as hypocritical here. Big, well-known content creators who whine about not "getting credit" from react videos come off as greedy and entitled to me.
@@GanbarizerThe nothing is new in art argument is good but doesn't apply here. If you copied a Vermeer and took full credit, congrats to you, as you've shown zero creativity but immense skill (copying is a legitimate talent and a learning technique too). What these reaction vid folk are doing is charging people to watch them look at a Vermeer without explaining what the painting is about or who the artist is, which requires zero skill and zero creativity.
Yep and smaller creators can't do anything about it. People have this idea that it's super easy to take down content that isn't theirs but it's not. Only people making successful claims are big companies with teams of lawyers and most of all money
One of my favorite reactors (he only reacts to History videos) is VTH (Vlogging through History). He is a Historian who reacts to videos and put in his knowledge and opinions throughout the video and always tell people to see the original content first and support them. Just a wholesome person!
There's a few reaction channels that I like including you, they give thw right amount of commentary, generally not bad people, it's those who either don't speak or smoke while reacting, that's not content or really the right use of fair use
xQc actually speaks alot during his reactions, so much so that it's become a meme that he just pauses to spout dumb shit all the time on his channel. Either way, the amount that you pause on something is a thin argument, since the line is hard to find. I think a better argument for what makes a reaction channel ethical is if they have permission, and if their content is negatively affecting the original, which in xqcs case, both are in his favor im pretty sure
I wouldn’t call this channel a “react” channel. It’s more a “commentary” channel because he transforms the content to create a video that is his own style to give comments on a specific topic. Like, when he talks about a movie, he’s not playing the movie in full and showing us his reactions. He’s not sitting there in silence for large parts and going “hah..” to continue sitting in silence some more. No, he’s talking about it, constantly sharing giving his view on scenes, giving details about the story, maybe even shares his own experiences, mentions some behind the scenes information related to the movie, etc. He’s summarizing things while adding his style to it, making it his own video. The types of reaction content that is being talked about takes content that releases/uploads the same day, reacts to it live (in FULL, while skipping sponsors) to rake in donos, adds nothing of value to transform it whatsoever outside of grunting, laughing, and maybe eating as it plays, never links to the original video, then uploads it the same day to take even more viewers from the original. Just pop in to some of the streams and read the chat … the thousands of viewers they have watching them aren’t going to go to the original and rewatch it. In fact, they get mad if the streamer pauses it or laughs, telling them to be quiet and just play it. It’s toxic as hell, takes from original creators, and I’m so glad it’s finally being called out.
Cody ko is a great example of how to react to videos. He has his own audience and his own style of comedy while adding to the content he uses in his reactions
This reminds of old youtube where I watched whole animes and even famous ones which had slightly strict copyright coz the uploader would put a bright colorful artifical frame around each episode to skip copyright.
CoryxKenshin is THE reason I found this channel! Responsible and worthwhile creators are the only people I can respect. Glad I can call myself a fan of both dope creators!
Lemmino is awesome, one of the best creators out there. Thank you for this video, and calling out those who profit off the hard work of others with little to no effort of their own.
i think lemmino would really appreciates this kind of content if they really put specific output regarding the topic, like for example a reaction from a former detective, criminologist, or even former CIA staff
i just looked up lemmino reaction and funny how it's always XQC that starts this shit when moist was reacting to his stuff before and there is even a playlist of it
@@FuhrerHeisenyea but people like charlie so they’re gonna excuse him because he talks slightly more than xqc. although at least he doesn’t upload his reactions himself so he’s automatically better than xqc on that basis alone. he tries to create original content and isnt lazy like x

xQc takes a near 2 hour video, only adds 15 minutes. Asmon takes a 15 minute video, it's almost an hour. When you're less transformative than our local neighborhood goblin, there's a problem.
I actually found you through Corey a long time ago on SpookyScarySunday. And I assume watching your main channel is why this channel got into my algorithm.
humans are inherently social creatures. of course people like to hear from people they value. you can dislike xqc, but he's one of the largest streamers for SOME reason, so his audience clearly values his entertainment value.
@@mikec2845 Eh, being social still doesn’t justify playing a video in full and adding nothing of value to it. Let’s not sit and pretend that the people that actually sit and watch him watch an hour long video for some reason are going to go rewatch the original. All you have to do is read his chat as videos like that are playing to figure out that much - there will be a flood of spam when he pauses or is talking, all telling him to shut up and just play the video. Why people want to sit and watch these types of streamers isn’t really the topic, though. Personally, I’ll never understand it, but why they watch them doesn’t answer why these streamers think they’re immune from negativity to play the vids in full as soon as the OC is uploaded with tons of donos, skip their sponsorships, then reupload their “reaction” with the video recorded in full to the same platform the OC is on to receive even more revenue off someone else’s work. That’s the real issue here.
@@w花b it is objectively untrue that the top streamers have remained the same over a multi year span. streamers have risen and fallen just as often as TH-camrs. twitch's terrible algorithm may affect discovery for new creators, but it also does not assist current creators in remaining relevant. yes, a lot of top streamers have been successful for years, but that's largely due to their experience. xqc has not just remained popular for years, but truly on top. and that obviously comes from his insane stream schedule and persistence. my argument was not that people value him because he's large, but that people value his commentary for the same reasons they value watching his gameplay. ultimately something about his personality appeals to a wide audience whether you get it or not, and the react content success is because of that same personality. people call it cheap content, yes. but there are thousands of reaction channels no one cares about because no one knows their personality, or they present bland in the videos.
I see reaction videos and often think "Why the fuck is youtube promoting this to me?" I've not even watched the original yet. I don't want to sit there and listen to someone tell me what they think about a piece of content someone else has made, especially when their opinions are just so shallow and phoned in. I think it's one thing when you have people breaking down and discussing the content in-depth, but in my admittedly limited experience with XQC, that's not what he does. In fact, I dare say that he adds almost nothing of value to things he watches and reacts to.. XQC, at least for purposes of this discussion is definitely a parasite making money off of other people's hard work. He definitely cares about the money, too, or he wouldn't take the time to re-upload other people's stuff with face stapled to the bottom of it.
I'm honestly surprised TH-cam completely changed their approach to react channels. One moment they were all buried by the algorithm and the next moment they're all doing super well
Maybe because for over a decade before they started experimenting with it, there was literally no problem with any react content. Because it's almost like react videos expose to the original video to a wider audience and generates much more engagement. It's the creators who only make videos for money that are complaining because they lose a few dollars to a react video. When in reality the react channels are tunneling viewers to the creators channels. It's money money money baby.
Glad people are FINALLY talking about this and calling it out for what it is. I thought it was so strange that not even a few years ago we made fun of people who did the react content because it was lazy and hurt smaller creators. But suddenly it's OK on twitch when big streamers do it? It's so hypocritical.
9:47 This is so true. When DarkviperAU released his videos on react content this convinced Maxor to not allow reactions to his content and then after he expressed this in the comment section some people were talking shit about him because he got "exposure" from these reactors.
What's worse are their fanbase. They fanboy so hard they will rationalize the parasitic content in a way that allows them to continue to enjoy it without feeling guilty about their fav "reactor". It's like a toxic relationship: "Yeah she cheats on me, but at least I get to hit it when she comes home from Chad's house." It's just F tier cope and it's depressing that the viewers perpetuate it instead of having standards.
It is truly a show of character that you can comment on this whole situation without insulting XQC’s intelligence, even after he has built an entire career off of being a moron.
@@Bradburnsand Paris Hilton was a worldwide famous celebrity for sucking d on camera and being stupid. It's REALLY not hard to become famous if you have management and a personality that caters to children raised by the screen/morons

Time is our most valuable currency and disrespecting somebody's time and effort just feels so wrong. Transform it and comment. EDIT that stuff.
Beyond how right papameat is, Im still trying to figure out why so many ppl watch xQc reactions. he literally does just poker face reaction for 2 hours
I don't even know who xQc is but if all he does is watch others content without even doing any commentary or nothing my best guess is that his audience are just some lazy motherfuckers who is too lazy to find entertainment for themselves so they lazily go to his videos/streams whatever and just let him pick the entertainment of the day for them, know what I mean? I know some extremely lazy people exist out there so it would not surprise me if that's the reason...
This is the perfect amount of honesty, humor, and energy so that anyone should be able to understand why the "watch full videos while doing nothing" uploads are garbage that shouldn't be allowed on TH-cam.
Since when did youtube work on what some consider garbage? The algorythm will probably recommend literal horsecrap if enough enagement happens with it.
I hope your very well crafted words get through to some that can implement changes. You're not just a content creator, you're an artist. If it's happening with your hand drawn images from your mind, it's happening across the board. At a time when it's so hard for a lot of creators to come up with original content - It seems the new standard to just copy or physically use the creativity and talent of others. It should be illegal to crop out water marks or credits and use that content. Everything should be linked in descriptions
I genuinely love this. You’re more than correct when you call that specific type of ‘reacting’ parasitic because that’s all it is. These are people who prey on other people’s need for a parasocial relationship.
Is the reason such a system isn't standard on YT currently due to a technological limitation or because of a lack of interest from their end?
@@MM-jf1me there’s no real tech limitation there, embedding one video feed as an overlay on another isn’t a big deal. That said, there’s probably a number of legal and logistical hurdles to clear in making this feasible, and doing nothing is always easier than doing something (especially if you haven’t even had the idea of what to do).

Ik jinx is pissed you booted me off the platform than you use my blueprint of success

I honestly feel like YT and twitch are different cultures. React channels would thrive on twitch cause you're reacting WITH a guy reacting and talking to them about the reaction.

Its too late. He's set for life. Even if they magically ban react content from making revenue off someone elses work.

Papameat/Meatcanyon has a very good reason to not like these types of "creators" if you can even call them that. @@footfucker6974 🤣🤣
Also, his videos get demonetized or removed all the time, but the reaction videos to his demonetized videos don't
This exactly. It sucks that smaller creators are being exploited like this.
Landlords are being by exploited by single mothers and other broke people
Yep and smaller creators can't do anything about it.
Smoke while reacting?
xQc actually speaks alot during his reactions, so much so that it's become a meme that he just pauses to spout dumb shit all the time on his channel.
@@TwoBsthat’s what they said, even tho they might not have used the exact perfect words you fully understood what they meant.

Lemmino is awesome, one of the best creators out there. Thank you for this video, and calling out those who profit off the hard work of others with little to no effort of their own.
i think lemmino would really appreciates this kind of content if they really put specific output regarding the topic, like for example a reaction from a former detective, criminologist, or even former CIA staff
i just looked up lemmino reaction and funny how it's always XQC that starts this shit when moist was reacting to his stuff before and there is even a playlist of it
@@FuhrerHeisenyea but people like charlie so they’re gonna excuse him because he talks slightly more than xqc.

xQc takes a near 2 hour video, only adds 15 minutes. Asmon takes a 15 minute video, it's almost an hour. When you're less transformative than our local neighborhood goblin, there's a problem.
Asmon would get a full 8 hour stream worth of content from the LEMMINO video.
To clarify though Asmongold is still violating copyright by streaming/uploading videos in their entireity even if he does talk a lot.
I actually found you through Corey a long time ago on SpookyScarySunday. And I assume watching your main channel is why this channel got into my algorithm.
Everything I know about XQC, I've learned against my will...
I discovered you through Cory. It's good to hear you say positive things about him.
XQC proofs what's wrong with human's
We care more about the reaction from a different person then our own
humans are inherently social creatures. of course people like to hear from people they value. you can dislike xqc, but he's one of the largest streamers for SOME reason, so his audience clearly values his entertainment value.
We consume their opinions instead of thinking about the facts and making our own opinion
He definitely cares about the money, too, or he wouldn't take the time to re-upload other people's stuff with face stapled to the bottom of it.
that deep angry voice you do cracks me up everytime
I'm honestly surprised TH-cam completely changed their approach to react channels. One moment they were all buried by the algorithm and the next moment they're all doing super well
Maybe because for over a decade before they started experimenting with it, there was literally no problem with any react content.
Because it's almost like react videos expose to the original video to a wider audience and generates much more engagement. It's the creators who only make videos for money that are complaining because they lose a few dollars to a react video. When in reality the react channels are tunneling viewers to the creators channels. It's money money money baby.

People *want* to hang out and watch videos on TH-cam with someone else and these ‘reaction’ channels make their money off of that. They put in minimal effort, essentially steal content and wages and then get offended when called out for it. It’s gross! It’s unfair and ridiculous! I sincerely hope I live to see the day it goes out of fashion.
