It is fascinating seeing the thinktank with a serious Singles Player and anSerious Doubles Player. Not dogging on each other, just legitimate surprise and learning. Excellent, positive conversation that makes me proud to be a member of this community
This video was super interesting. I really like your dynamic together, I would love to see more collabs. But its neat. I think the big thing I noticed was that for VGC pokemon need to be a bit more midground on the offensive/defense spectrum. Because they can be doubled even offensive mons need to have enough bulk to survive, so glass cannons don't work as well. Opposite of that are heavy tanks, who just don't do anything then lose a 2 or 3 v 1 which isn't an issue in singles.
The most success that I have had in VGC has been with Hawlucha. I run Weakness Policy next to either Lapras, with Ice Shard, or Silveon with Quick attack. In one turn you can double both attacks and your speed. You can raise Sylveons Sp attack with Max Ooze and your own attack with Max Knuckle. Sylveon can also help out by using Helping hand.
You know, seeing these two talk about singles and doubles, I was that weird person that kinda enjoyed Triple Battles, I did hope they would have brought that back since I think it would have been interesting to see how Dynamax would work with Triple Battles.
Super cool vid. All of these really highlight the main difference of 6v6 singles being so much slower/more defensive on one end, and the reactive use of more frail breakers to counter that
I much prefer doubles because there is just so much more you can do with two Pokémon as to singles, but there is a simple joy I find in leading toxapex in singles and opponents just not having anything to deal with it. Probably that's just because I'll only play a few singles games per season so never get to a high rank, but it's still funny.

I realized it wasn't good in the adventure, but in this instance it was extremely valuable
Honestly, sacrilegious as it sounds, I've always preferred Clefable over Clefairy and even Togikiss as a follow me tank in VGC. Flame orb on Magic Guard Clefable with bulk is disgusting. As long as you don't take a Para or Sleep turn one You get a crazy bulky tank that can't be status'd and prevents the pokemon it's supporting from getting it either while still absorbing the damage. Even with no investment in Sp. Att, a Moon Blast from Clefable is way more potent then an attack from a pure support Pokemon should be. Magic Guard also means you can partner it with Sandstorm and Hail setters with no HP penalty, and sit in residual damage effects - without taking damage. ALSO, It practically invalidates trick, forcing the user to take a burn, or do nothing since any trick user is either holding a choice item or Toxic/Flame Orbs. THEN it can boost defenses with Cosmic power and reliably heal with Moonlight. It gets even crazier when you get a partner Dynamax boosting it's stats.
