Point of reference for Talonflame. On Smogon's singles ladder I played with the Bravest Bird for a while with various choice band sets but found there was an issue. See, occasionally, I would press a button that wasn't Brave Bird, thinking it would be better in a given situation. It was not. Brave Bird was always the correct option. So I removed every other move besides Brave Bird so I wouldn't accidentally select them and ended up with a better win rate as a result.
Thundurus also changed Hidden Power. basically: "Wow, its amazing how many people managed to get a Thundurus with just the right IVs to get the most powerful version of Ice-type Hidden Power! They must've had to soft-reset for ages to do that!"
to be fair RNG manipulation was possible in gen5 and imo its a legit way to get a perfect iv pokemon. That doesn't mean that a bunch of people didn't cheat though
I never understood Smeargle until I saw Spore, Belly Drum and Baton Pass. If it gets the chance, then oof. And I've heard something about Lock On and OHKO moves. No idea if that works.
There is the set with trapping move (ex.:mean look)+imprison+transform, however it is only gimnicky and kind of viable in 1v1 without the trapping move. The set with dark void and support moves like helping hand, follow me... There might be a gimnicky set with swaps and other things
@@exoltik3199 Smeargle just has incredible versatility. If you have a priority move and need a quick cleanup on a very low health pokemon, that becomes an option too. Also it's god tier for egg moves because it can learn nearly every one to pass down.
Dark Void needs its accuracy back to 80. Its a signature move that can only be used by Darkrai and can be countered. Don’t do my boy Darkrai like this.
Why would they nerf Dark Void only to make it so that Smeargle can't learn it right after? Darkrai has been banned forever, why nerf him at all? Further yet, we can't use legendary mons in almost every competitive smogon format (and I'm talking primary legendaries like Ho-Oh & Lugia, not secondaries like Latios/Latias), so why are so many signature moves so terrible? None of this makes sense
As a counterpart to Fake Out, Flinging Kings Rock also results in a guaranteed flinch. Use this to surprise opposing ghost types that are expecting to ignore fake out!
The strategy has some problems: -Fling is not a priority move, Fake Out goes before every other attacking priority move -You can activate weakness policies since it's a dark type move, Fake Out doesn't -It's a one time use move, once you fling the object, it's gone for the match -A faster Pokemon can use Knock Off on you -A faster Pokemon or one with prankster can use trick on you
I never understood having both the dark void nerfs just for Smeargle. Like lower accuracy would've made sense if they wanted Smeargle to still have the move as it'd just be a 1/4 chance to get both foes. Making it exclusive to Darkrai just means its not in the format anymore (thank god). Having both seems excessive since that just means Darkrai, a legendary Pokemon that's never legal to begin with, can't take advanatage of its signature move when playing non competitive.
I still vividly remember losing a 4-2 match as 0-2 because a scarfed Lando got double flinches from Rock slide three times in a row. I was homicidal after that match.

Don’t forget that Talonflame would run Quick Guard partially so that it could counter other Talonflame users, making it counter itself while also adding in a 50/50 element on attacking vs protecting.
I still don’t see it as being as toxic as Xerneas or as powerful as Mega Ray imo, although that being said mega ray is more of a singles demon than doubles
Imo the easiest way to nerf Geomancy without changing too many mechanics would be making it a "must recharge the turn after" move instead of a two turn move. That way it wouldn't work with power herb and it wouldn't be that harsh of a nerf since you are +2 spdef in order to survive that turn. Obviously that would make Geomancy not worth using at all but who cares.
I think there are other ways to nerf geomancy, without making xerneas completely worthless (because let's be honest, without it it's just a mediocre restricted), for example make it a slightly better quiver dance: +1 spatk, +1 spdef and +2 speed, this way it doesn't oneshot the entire non-steel metagame but still keeps one of its main strenghts which is being very fast
Okay, I’m just going to say it. Garchomp is one of my all time favorite Pokémon, but it was absurd back in the gen 4 meta. Sand veil, swords dance boosting, Draco meteor for a surprise kill on physical tanks, coverage on the entire meta game with I think just 4 moves, nothing that can out-speed and kill it if it’s holding the ice resist berry, and the fact that it can two hit K.O. every single Pokémon in the game after a single swords dance. With the exception of Wobbafett (because shadow tag plus encore and countering moves is stupid), Garchomp was the first non-legendary Pokemon to be banned to Uber’s. Honestly, just go watch False Swipe Gaming’s video on the competitive history of Garchomp to see how broken it was.
Now for the most toxic Pokémon in a literal sense: 10. Shroodle, they spray paint markings around its territory that secrete a foul odor and don’t try to anger it, or it’ll bite you and you’ll be paralyzed from its poisonous fangs Weezing, considering Koffing expels horrible smelling gases and can even explode them everywhere, I can only imagine Weezing to be much worse. Swalot, basically Gulpin (the Pokémon with overpowering farts for some reason) but it can expel poisonous gases from its body Nidoran, they have barbs that can even kill the victim with just one tiny hair in contact. (The male one especially) Stunky (while Skuntank is just as bad, the stench it squirts dulls after a couple shots), it releases a toxic liquid from its ass onto its opponents. The smell can be detected from 16 feet away and can last for 24 hours. Not only that, but the stench can cause fainting and even memory loss. Toxapex, if you are hit with a toxic spike, the poisonous pain will last for 3 entire days (not even a Wailord is unaffected) 4. Dragalge, the poison it spews can even (Melmetal) melt metal 3. Garbodor, while Trubbish’s belches can cause one to faint and a young living being to potentially die, Garbodor not only has even worse belches, but also an arm that can execrate poison that can kill anything weak. 2. Toxicroak, this things knuckles are so poisonous and dangerous that just a scratch would kill you. 1. Muk, it smells so horrendous that it can cause fainting, not to mention being around them causes diseases, also it can kill any plant it passes by. Honorable mentions: Salazzle and Glimmet/Glimmora, Corrosion, nothing else to say; Loyal Three and Pecharunt, the Loyal Three have Toxic Chains and Pecharunt’s mochi contains poisons that possess the consumers and make them obey its orders; (I’m currently working on finding more Pokémon that might make it to this list, and there’s a lot to count, so I’ll finish this list later)
Commenting on Wolfey’s wideo for it to get into TH-cam’s circulation algorithm! I usually comment as soon as I start watching the wideo, so sometimes I have a hard time figuring out what to say. Anyway, I like the changes to some abilities to counter intimidate, a good choice imo.

I used to think like you about the chaos factor Wolfey but I've since come to think that luck can be used in a skillful way. Sometimes chaos is the only way to stop a shell smash boosted cloyster from mowing through your whole team.
Wolfey’s actually talked a bit about this in other videos. I think the issue is just that there’s a point where it becomes excessive and detracts from the fun of the game.

I liked the pics for #2 & #1 specially because they affected not only doubles but singles too.Smeargle ruined Darkrai and Xerneas is a super nightmare in singles,practically forcing players to run Necrozma Dusk Mane and to keep P-Don healthy to check it.
I mean, he pretty much depending on Quick Claw Eruption Strategy from Torkoal. Not to mention Sleep Powder from Venusaur is one of his main strategies too. (75% accuracy, if missed he lost the game)
Xerneas is one of my favorite legendaries because of its design and concept, however it definitely is way too powerful. VGC16 was a nightmare partially because of it (granted, the big 6 as a whole is why it was so awful).
Is there a set of dueling rules where players only get to use one legendary or mythic in their team? I like the current format too, but when I start to catch legendaries on the Crown Tundra, I would like to use them sometimes without facing off against teams that are nothing but legendary pokemon. I think it would be a good format to say "limit one legendary/mythical per team" so we get to use them but without shutting out the normal mons.
@@Thorn99855 in VGC 2012, 2016, 2019 the format was made to allow at least 2 legendary pokemon per team. Mythical pokemon were not allowed however. I'm assuming that there were be a future format thats akin to those.

Honorable mentions: Eviolite Chansey, Sableye before Swagger/Prankster/TWave nerf and the fairy type, Ferrothorn (and scizor) are the biggest reason the fire type got so many new moves, pokemon, and pokemon that can learn the moves, and subsequently got higher usage.
I like this video a lot. As someone newer vgc though a long time Pokemon player, it’s great to see what to expect because we all know a lot of these are coming in the dlc’s
I kind of love Smeargle because of how chaotic it is. It's one of those pokemon that has infinite possibilities for you, but that power is also given to your opponent.
Hey Wolfey, would love to see a video where you analyse how good Zacian (especially its crowned form) could be in a restricted format. Just looking at its movepool, typing and stats makes it seem like it has the potential to completely warp the format, similarly to what xerneas did.
It's one of the best steel types in a very strong fairy metagame and it does absolutely absurd damage to dynamax. To top it off it starts the game with a +1 and the only way to stop it is by having either intimidate or neutralizing gas. I don't have to run any calcs to be confident in saying that +1 behemoth blade OHKOs most dynamaxes and that's horrifying.
I agree on the #1 spot Xerneas. How many times did you lose against a +1 Volcarona after a QD. Well Xerneas does the same but +2 with better stats. OP!

I would say Tyranitar is kinda toxic because even though it's not the toughest ever to deal with, resetting weather for sand + huge overrall stats means it's gonna be on hundreds of thousands of teams forever. You'd think this was to make weather teams less toxic, but what it really does is condense all the toxicity into just sand teams that already get other powerhouses like Rhyperior and Excadrill...
I remember 20 years ago. There’s no VGC or tournaments. We were playing Pokémon on original gameboy and everyone bought it to school with link cables. Nobody knows how to build teams and are running movesets like - fly, flamethrower, fire spin, fire blast (looool) . In comes Gen 2. I saw a forum post on gamefaqs or something - and made a poliwrath with the following move set: hypnosis, mean look, fissure, mind reader and ran havoc at my school. That was the most toxic. Hahaha
From what I've heard, Mega Kanga was so strong, that everybody brought counters to it to worlds instead of Mega Kanga itself. So it was basically too good to win worlds. Ofc I might be wrong about this so don't take it as fact.
The guy who lost to Pachirisu built his team around Kangaskhan, then didn't even bring it in favor of a Lucario that he wasn't experienced enough to know it wouldn't usually have 15/16 odds to OHKO Gardevoir with Bullet Punch- Def EVs made it 11/16 roll which he lost & lost worlds bc of it He actually built around Charizard & Kangaskhan and only ever used one protect with Charizard he played badly in the final.
Not only did he wager on Bullet Punch being 15/16 but he could have ensured a non-priority KO first turn by double attacking it or even leading with Ttar sandstorm but he wagered worlds for a Rock Tomb on Garchomp that did like 14 damage. Bullet Punch missed 11/16 to OHKO and the match was history.
gen 1 mewtwo was by far the strongest threat we've had. Honestly power herb doesn't need the buff, Geo does. If Geo is boost first, recharge after we'd be saved. Herb still needs to help other recharge moves like hyper beam or blast burn. Even if both my changes get implemented, that gives you a chance to knock off power herb or trick it safely compared to before. Plus you could bluff other items like sitrus berry or pixie plate better.
The only effective ways to deal with xerneas is taunt it turn 1, slow encore turn 1, prankster encore turn 2, trick a scarf before it geomancys, prankster haze, which is not as effective, since you still have to deal with a xerneas, even if its unboosted. If xerneas is paired with fake out or redirection, the only reliable option left. Good luck against a legendary fairy type murkrow!
You can knock off, taunt it. But... murkrow would be completely obliterated by dazzling gleam xD Too bad, smeargle has quick guard, fake out, and dark void to prevent you from stopping it.
Let's be honest singles is so mismanaged that they go on banning tangents. (One ban leading to another ban etc) its also completely outdated in how its formated that singles feels near unplayable at times. To the point that they keep opening new lower tier formats. Its also handled by people who shouldn't have executive control over the format making decisions over the state of the game based on whatever they want vs the community I wouldn't be surprised if they ban caterpie
@@xaropevic7918 it would require a lot of changes honestly we have such an abundance of Pokémon at this point with tons of interactions that can't be acounted for. First off get rid of the tier ubers, ou, uu etc. One of the problems is smogons obsessive clinging to a system that isn't working anymore for example ou and uu if a Pokémon doesn't meet the usage ratings it gets knocked off into uu which is weird or worse yet if a Pokémon isn't all that good but its being used a lot it sticks in borderline which is Essentially needless banlists its a broken system. As for fixing it honestly the best way would be having it like VCG rules mythicals are banned, certain legendary are banned( ex. mewtwo) and restrict the Pokémon available based on region.(ex either caught or breed, and they can do something more similar to VCG and have seasonal formats). If people would want to still want tiers reformat them no ban list but open up the gates better. I'm going to use OU as I don't care to come up with a tier name. But make that the top don't bother with bans such as complex banning and ubers etc. A lot of the problem Pokémon tend to be mythicals and legendaries. I honestly don't believe with an ever growing list and the already huge list we have its a good idea to have national dex and tiers as it limits creativity. Unless you want a format that's either the same ever growing list of lower tiers and a chocked out ou that has to ban mons because they banned other mons. Items are something that should be looked at vs Pokémon when getting axed some items are made and removed in Pokémon and honestly singles is much harder to cope with items vs VCG. Reduce the Pokémon you can use to battle from 6 to 4 like VCG. Still having a 6 Pokémon team. This isn't new to singles as we had gen 1 with 3 Pokémon. What this does is fix a bunch of problems (maybe adding some too, nothing is perfect after all) some issues the game has is its grindy nature or its huge setup spam. It allows some Pokémon to thrive more than others but also reduces broken potentials of certain teams by forcing them to cope with less slots and the mechanics of uncertainty. Increasing thoughful actions. (Ex should I bring garchomp this match or not because they might bring their counter but if they don't I can sweep etc) its something we already see in VCG. Now while I did initially start with a no ban rule I am aware sometimes broken comes out that isn't stopped simply by banning items or lowering the team size in fact one or both might exemplify a broken strategy. And region locking also doesn't always stop them either. From this point singles isn't able to cope at the same rate as VCG they usually wait for a format rotation the sad thing is singles isn't able to do that because they aren't the esport focus. Bans should only be taken after a minimum of 3 or 6 months from release of the format and done as a scheduled event rather than impulsive whenever whatever. Similar to card games games banlist. Now who does the banlist well i definitely don't recommend anyone who is on the smogon board they have done a poor job so far and I fear it will become what they want banned vs what needs to be banned in this case it should honestly be a public poll(while bots exist there can be ways to reduce bot spam and have a system with not just a checkbox but data needed to be provided opened up in a public easy to access place if game freak/Nintendo or whoever handles vcg is on board they can help with this system.(or if people have better ideas.) Like they say never let the noobs or pros decide what should be banned or not alone. (Or a tiny board of elitists who think they know best) What this does is give people the time to come up with strategies that can either work or truly see if the metagame can't cope. Also this banlist will only work for the game its made for (example sword and shield banlist isn't the same for emerald banlist). There is probably more than needs to be described, gone over, explained, clarified etc. But sadly my one comment won't do anything to change anything and I already text vomited you so I should probably stop now but hey thanks for reading if you got this far and have a great day.
@@cuttlefish6839 personally I strongly disagree with some smogon rules like sleep clause, I understand the intent but also it punishes you for being aware of certain strategies, electric terrain exists, lum berry exists, by making sleep a once per game thing you're arbitrarily limiting both teambuilding and the format at large. For example, if sleep was a really big thing in singles (vgc player so I don't have personal experience this format but in others its huge) then that would potentially give a mon like Pincurchin in this format for electric surge, or make max lightning on a fast mon almost necessary like max airstream. But for now max lightning might as well not do anything in ou. And on that note, dynamax. It's banned, it's genuinely broken in singles and I understand that, but I don't think it should be banned, it should be adapted to. For example, in singles you could have a pokemon use phantom force and guaranteed waste a turn. You go phantom force dragapult with a focus sash and it just deletes dynamax because you phantom force, dodge, take the hit, go to sash, then dodge. That's just an example of course, but dynamax isn't inherently going to win you the game even in singles where it snowballs at the speed of light. I definitely think more testing should have been done at least.

There are no good spore users in tje game rn and the only halfway decent sleep powder user is venusaur whichbcan just blow away pinchurchin with growth boosted sludge bombes/gigadrains/solar beams or if U really want to prep vs it earthpower. Even ig pokemon like amoongus or brellom come back with the update pinkurchin gets outclassed by Tapu Koko witch is aööready confirmed to be in the game. +Dynamax is the most busted thing since someone thought mega salamence should be in OU. I met the requierments during the dynamax suspect test (OUTM weisseSchocki I haven't touched the account since) and literally every single game was decided by who dynamaxed at thw right turn. I used dynamax togekiss to sweep 9/10 games after a nasty plot boost. There simply is no other counterplay to dynamax then dynamaxing urselfe. E.G. ur focus sash strategy won't work cause a stealthrock, spikes and toxuc spikes exist.
Azumarill is super toxic. I proved it by using one. 1. It has Huge Power, which doubles Attack. 2. It can learn Belly Drum, which raises Attack up to the maximum stage, but costs half of the user's max HP. 3. However, the Sitrus Berry is consumed at half HP to heal the user by 1/4 of their max HP, offsetting the cost. 4. It can learn Aqua Jet, a priority physical move. I even made a mental image of the Incineroar I killed with Aqua Jet as that memetic traumatized wet cat with bug eyes.
Seeing some of the mons on this list makes me wander why GF chose to nerf moves that cause paralysis and sleep instead of making these status conditions less stupid. Would it be too much to decrease full paralysis chance and maximum turns of sleep?
Before the nerf, I never used power up punch Kang. I think pup is overrated. Now, stomp on the other hand, was completely broken. It reduces the recoil from a second move double edge and has like a 52% chance to flinch. You can nearly KO pokemon with stomp. An intimidated jolly mega kangaskhan 2KOs landorus with a stomp and a double edge. Stomp can KO mega gardevoir, and if it doesn't it can flinch, plus stomp and double gives you 4 chances to critical hit. Some of the best answers to stomp and double edge get KO'd by fire punch. Kangaskhan even troubled gengar with a non-evolved scrappy fake out+double edge. Again, this was before the nerf. Source: experience.

@@exoltik3199 Smeargle just has incredible versatility. If you have a priority move and need a quick cleanup on a very low health pokemon, that becomes an option too. Also it's god tier for egg moves because it can learn nearly every one to pass down.

Why would they nerf Dark Void only to make it so that Smeargle can't learn it right after? Darkrai has been banned forever, why nerf him at all? Further yet, we can't use legendary mons in almost every competitive smogon format (and I'm talking primary legendaries like Ho-Oh & Lugia, not secondaries like Latios/Latias), so why are so many signature moves so terrible? None of this makes sense

The thing with Landorus is it was so good that people started running hidden power ice on their adamant landorus to counter other landorus.
As a counterpart to Fake Out, Flinging Kings Rock also results in a guaranteed flinch. Use this to surprise opposing ghost types that are expecting to ignore fake out!
The strategy has some problems:
-Fling is not a priority move, Fake Out goes before every other attacking priority move
-You can activate weakness policies since it's a dark type move, Fake Out doesn't
-It's a one time use move, once you fling the object, it's gone for the match
-A faster Pokemon can use Knock Off on you
-A faster Pokemon or one with prankster can use trick on you

I never understood having both the dark void nerfs just for Smeargle. Like lower accuracy would've made sense if they wanted Smeargle to still have the move as it'd just be a 1/4 chance to get both foes. Making it exclusive to Darkrai just means its not in the format anymore (thank god). Having both seems excessive since that just means Darkrai, a legendary Pokemon that's never legal to begin with, can't take advanatage of its signature move when playing non competitive.
I still vividly remember losing a 4-2 match as 0-2 because a scarfed Lando got double flinches from Rock slide three times in a row.
I was homicidal after that match.

Imo the easiest way to nerf Geomancy without changing too many mechanics would be making it a "must recharge the turn after" move instead of a two turn move. That way it wouldn't work with power herb and it wouldn't be that harsh of a nerf since you are +2 spdef in order to survive that turn. Obviously that would make Geomancy not worth using at all but who cares.
I think there are other ways to nerf geomancy, without making xerneas completely worthless (because let's be honest, without it it's just a mediocre restricted), for example make it a slightly better quiver dance: +1 spatk, +1 spdef and +2 speed, this way it doesn't oneshot the entire non-steel metagame but still keeps one of its main strenghts which is being very fast

Okay, I’m just going to say it. Garchomp is one of my all time favorite Pokémon, but it was absurd back in the gen 4 meta. Sand veil, swords dance boosting, Draco meteor for a surprise kill on physical tanks, coverage on the entire meta game with I think just 4 moves, nothing that can out-speed and kill it if it’s holding the ice resist berry, and the fact that it can two hit K.O. every single Pokémon in the game after a single swords dance. With the exception of Wobbafett (because shadow tag plus encore and countering moves is stupid), Garchomp was the first non-legendary Pokemon to be banned to Uber’s. Honestly, just go watch False Swipe Gaming’s video on the competitive history of Garchomp to see how broken it was.

Now for the most toxic Pokémon in a literal sense:
10. Shroodle, they spray paint markings around its territory that secrete a foul odor and don’t try to anger it, or it’ll bite you and you’ll be paralyzed from its poisonous fangs
Weezing, considering Koffing expels horrible smelling gases and can even explode them everywhere, I can only imagine Weezing to be much worse.
Swalot, basically Gulpin (the Pokémon with overpowering farts for some reason) but it can expel poisonous gases from its body
Nidoran, they have barbs that can even kill the victim with just one tiny hair in contact. (The male one especially)
Stunky (while Skuntank is just as bad, the stench it squirts dulls after a couple shots), it releases a toxic liquid from its ass onto its opponents. The smell can be detected from 16 feet away and can last for 24 hours. Not only that, but the stench can cause fainting and even memory loss.
Toxapex, if you are hit with a toxic spike, the poisonous pain will last for 3 entire days (not even a Wailord is unaffected)
4. Dragalge, the poison it spews can even (Melmetal) melt metal
3. Garbodor, while Trubbish’s belches can cause one to faint and a young living being to potentially die, Garbodor not only has even worse belches, but also an arm that can execrate poison that can kill anything weak.
2. Toxicroak, this things knuckles are so poisonous and dangerous that just a scratch would kill you.
1. Muk, it smells so horrendous that it can cause fainting, not to mention being around them causes diseases, also it can kill any plant it passes by.

I used to think like you about the chaos factor Wolfey but I've since come to think that luck can be used in a skillful way. Sometimes chaos is the only way to stop a shell smash boosted cloyster from mowing through your whole team.
Wolfey’s actually talked a bit about this in other videos. I think the issue is just that there’s a point where it becomes excessive and detracts from the fun of the game.
While I do hate all of these Pokémon, I remember finding a lot my favorite Pokémon making counters for all of these.

Xerneas is one of my favorite legendaries because of its design and concept, however it definitely is way too powerful. VGC16 was a nightmare partially because of it (granted, the big 6 as a whole is why it was so awful).

Is there a set of dueling rules where players only get to use one legendary or mythic in their team? I like the current format too, but when I start to catch legendaries on the Crown Tundra, I would like to use them sometimes without facing off against teams that are nothing but legendary pokemon. I think it would be a good format to say "limit one legendary/mythical per team" so we get to use them but without shutting out the normal mons.

@@Thorn99855 in VGC 2012, 2016, 2019 the format was made to allow at least 2 legendary pokemon per team. Mythical pokemon were not allowed however. I'm assuming that there were be a future format thats akin to those.

I kind of love Smeargle because of how chaotic it is. It's one of those pokemon that has infinite possibilities for you, but that power is also given to your opponent.
Hey Wolfey, would love to see a video where you analyse how good Zacian (especially its crowned form) could be in a restricted format. Just looking at its movepool, typing and stats makes it seem like it has the potential to completely warp the format, similarly to what xerneas did.
It's one of the best steel types in a very strong fairy metagame and it does absolutely absurd damage to dynamax. To top it off it starts the game with a +1 and the only way to stop it is by having either intimidate or neutralizing gas. I don't have to run any calcs to be confident in saying that +1 behemoth blade OHKOs most dynamaxes and that's horrifying.

I would say Tyranitar is kinda toxic because even though it's not the toughest ever to deal with, resetting weather for sand + huge overrall stats means it's gonna be on hundreds of thousands of teams forever. You'd think this was to make weather teams less toxic, but what it really does is condense all the toxicity into just sand teams that already get other powerhouses like Rhyperior and Excadrill...
I remember 20 years ago. There’s no VGC or tournaments. We were playing Pokémon on original gameboy and everyone bought it to school with link cables. Nobody knows how to build teams and are running movesets like - fly, flamethrower, fire spin, fire blast (looool) . In comes Gen 2. I saw a forum post on gamefaqs or something - and made a poliwrath with the following move set: hypnosis, mean look, fissure, mind reader and ran havoc at my school. That was the most toxic. Hahaha
From what I've heard, Mega Kanga was so strong, that everybody brought counters to it to worlds instead of Mega Kanga itself. So it was basically too good to win worlds. Ofc I might be wrong about this so don't take it as fact.
The guy who lost to Pachirisu built his team around Kangaskhan, then didn't even bring it in favor of a Lucario that he wasn't experienced enough to know it wouldn't usually have 15/16 odds to OHKO Gardevoir with Bullet Punch- Def EVs made it 11/16 roll which he lost & lost worlds bc of it
He actually built around Charizard & Kangaskhan and only ever used one protect with Charizard he played badly in the final.
Not only did he wager on Bullet Punch being 15/16 but he could have ensured a non-priority KO first turn by double attacking it or even leading with Ttar sandstorm but he wagered worlds for a Rock Tomb on Garchomp that did like 14 damage. Bullet Punch missed 11/16 to OHKO and the match was history.
gen 1 mewtwo was by far the strongest threat we've had. Honestly power herb doesn't need the buff, Geo does. If Geo is boost first, recharge after we'd be saved. Herb still needs to help other recharge moves like hyper beam or blast burn. Even if both my changes get implemented, that gives you a chance to knock off power herb or trick it safely compared to before. Plus you could bluff other items like sitrus berry or pixie plate better.
Gen 1 didn't have VGC.

The only effective ways to deal with xerneas is taunt it turn 1, slow encore turn 1, prankster encore turn 2, trick a scarf before it geomancys, prankster haze, which is not as effective, since you still have to deal with a xerneas, even if its unboosted. If xerneas is paired with fake out or redirection, the only reliable option left. Good luck against a legendary fairy type murkrow!

Let's be honest singles is so mismanaged that they go on banning tangents. (One ban leading to another ban etc) its also completely outdated in how its formated that singles feels near unplayable at times. To the point that they keep opening new lower tier formats. Its also handled by people who shouldn't have executive control over the format making decisions over the state of the game based on whatever they want vs the community

First off get rid of the tier ubers, ou, uu etc. One of the problems is smogons obsessive clinging to a system that isn't working anymore for example ou and uu if a Pokémon doesn't meet the usage ratings it gets knocked off into uu which is weird or worse yet if a Pokémon isn't all that good but its being used a lot it sticks in borderline which is Essentially needless banlists its a broken system.
As for fixing it honestly the best way would be having it like VCG rules mythicals are banned, certain legendary are banned( ex. mewtwo) and restrict the Pokémon available based on region.(ex either caught or breed, and they can do something more similar to VCG and have seasonal formats).
If people would want to still want tiers reformat them no ban list but open up the gates better. I'm going to use OU as I don't care to come up with a tier name. But make that the top don't bother with bans such as complex banning and ubers etc. A lot of the problem Pokémon tend to be mythicals and legendaries.
I honestly don't believe with an ever growing list and the already huge list we have its a good idea to have national dex and tiers as it limits creativity. Unless you want a format that's either the same ever growing list of lower tiers and a chocked out ou that has to ban mons because they banned other mons.
Items are something that should be looked at vs Pokémon when getting axed some items are made and removed in Pokémon and honestly singles is much harder to cope with items vs VCG.
Reduce the Pokémon you can use to battle from 6 to 4 like VCG. Still having a 6 Pokémon team. This isn't new to singles as we had gen 1 with 3 Pokémon. What this does is fix a bunch of problems (maybe adding some too, nothing is perfect after all) some issues the game has is its grindy nature or its huge setup spam. It allows some Pokémon to thrive more than others but also reduces broken potentials of certain teams by forcing them to cope with less slots and the mechanics of uncertainty. Increasing thoughful actions. (Ex should I bring garchomp this match or not because they might bring their counter but if they don't I can sweep etc) its something we already see in VCG.
Now while I did initially start with a no ban rule I am aware sometimes broken comes out that isn't stopped simply by banning items or lowering the team size in fact one or both might exemplify a broken strategy. And region locking also doesn't always stop them either.
From this point singles isn't able to cope at the same rate as VCG they usually wait for a format rotation the sad thing is singles isn't able to do that because they aren't the esport focus.
Bans should only be taken after a minimum of 3 or 6 months from release of the format and done as a scheduled event rather than impulsive whenever whatever. Similar to card games games banlist. Now who does the banlist well i definitely don't recommend anyone who is on the smogon board they have done a poor job so far and I fear it will become what they want banned vs what needs to be banned in this case it should honestly be a public poll(while bots exist there can be ways to reduce bot spam and have a system with not just a checkbox but data needed to be provided opened up in a public easy to access place if game freak/Nintendo or whoever handles vcg is on board they can help with this system.(or if people have better ideas.)

What this does is give people the time to come up with strategies that can either work or truly see if the metagame can't cope. Also this banlist will only work for the game its made for (example sword and shield banlist isn't the same for emerald banlist).

@@cuttlefish6839 personally I strongly disagree with some smogon rules like sleep clause, I understand the intent but also it punishes you for being aware of certain strategies, electric terrain exists, lum berry exists, by making sleep a once per game thing you're arbitrarily limiting both teambuilding and the format at large. For example, if sleep was a really big thing in singles (vgc player so I don't have personal experience this format but in others its huge) then that would potentially give a mon like Pincurchin in this format for electric surge, or make max lightning on a fast mon almost necessary like max airstream. But for now max lightning might as well not do anything in ou. And on that note, dynamax. It's banned, it's genuinely broken in singles and I understand that, but I don't think it should be banned, it should be adapted to. For example, in singles you could have a pokemon use phantom force and guaranteed waste a turn. You go phantom force dragapult with a focus sash and it just deletes dynamax because you phantom force, dodge, take the hit, go to sash, then dodge. That's just an example of course, but dynamax isn't inherently going to win you the game even in singles where it snowballs at the speed of light. I definitely think more testing should have been done at least.

Well this may just be my opinion but there would be no reason whatsoever to use pinkurchin.
There are no good spore users in tje game rn and the only halfway decent sleep powder user is venusaur whichbcan just blow away pinchurchin with growth boosted sludge bombes/gigadrains/solar beams or if U really want to prep vs it earthpower.
Even ig pokemon like amoongus or brellom come back with the update pinkurchin gets outclassed by Tapu Koko witch is aööready confirmed to be in the game.
+Dynamax is the most busted thing since someone thought mega salamence should be in OU.
I met the requierments during the dynamax suspect test (OUTM weisseSchocki I haven't touched the account since) and literally every single game was decided by who dynamaxed at thw right turn.
I used dynamax togekiss to sweep 9/10 games after a nasty plot boost.
There simply is no other counterplay to dynamax then dynamaxing urselfe.
E.G. ur focus sash strategy won't work cause a stealthrock, spikes and toxuc spikes exist.

Azumarill is super toxic. I proved it by using one.
1. It has Huge Power, which doubles Attack.
2. It can learn Belly Drum, which raises Attack up to the maximum stage, but costs half of the user's max HP.
3. However, the Sitrus Berry is consumed at half HP to heal the user by 1/4 of their max HP, offsetting the cost.
4. It can learn Aqua Jet, a priority physical move.
I even made a mental image of the Incineroar I killed with Aqua Jet as that memetic traumatized wet cat with bug eyes.
Even worse belly drum dosnt just double your attack it double your boost and evs
Seeing some of the mons on this list makes me wander why GF chose to nerf moves that cause paralysis and sleep instead of making these status conditions less stupid. Would it be too much to decrease full paralysis chance and maximum turns of sleep?
Before the nerf, I never used power up punch Kang. I think pup is overrated. Now, stomp on the other hand, was completely broken. It reduces the recoil from a second move double edge and has like a 52% chance to flinch. You can nearly KO pokemon with stomp. An intimidated jolly mega kangaskhan 2KOs landorus with a stomp and a double edge. Stomp can KO mega gardevoir, and if it doesn't it can flinch, plus stomp and double gives you 4 chances to critical hit. Some of the best answers to stomp and double edge get KO'd by fire punch. Kangaskhan even troubled gengar with a non-evolved scrappy fake out+double edge. Again, this was before the nerf.
